Tinubu's framing of the attacks suffered by the Benue people as a reprisal is not at all unintentional. There is a deliberate attempt by the people at the helm of affairs to portray the victims of this terrorism as equal combatants in the scuffle that led to their deaths, a well thought-out plan to de-legitimize their pain and suffering and paint them as complicit in their deaths, a meticulously engineered strategy to deny agency to the terrorists and subtly, but surely, pervert the true narrative from terrorist-victim to ethnic clashes originating from both sides -- a cruel injustice that continues to haunt, even long after snuffing the life out of them. This was something I first noticed months ago in an article published by the BBC, which described it as such: "the relationship of the herders and farmers are fraught following clashes over resources." They are going to rewrite the reality of events before our own very eyes and we are just sitting idly watching as they do so.
