Lukgaf:
This week, let's review the 29th hadith of the forty hadith of An-nawawih. For the past review, see here

"On the authority of Muadh bin Jabal (may Allah be please with him) who said:

I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, tell me of an act which will take me into Paradise and will keep me away from the Hellfire.' He (peace be upon him) said, 'You have asked me about a great matter, yet it is easy for him for whom Allah makes it easy. Worship Allah without associating any partners with Him; establish the prayer; pay the Zakah; fast in Ramadan; and make the pilgrimage to the House.'

"Then he (peace be upon him) said, 'Shall I not guide you towards the means of goodness? Fasting is a shield, charity wipes away sin as water extinguishes fire, and the praying of a man in the depths of the night.' Then he (peace be upon him) recited: '[Those] who forsake their beds, to invoke their Lord in fear and hope, and they spend (charity in Allah's cause) out of what We have bestowed on them. No person knows what is kept hidden for them of joy as a reward for what they used to do' [as-Sajdah, 16-17].

"Then he (peace be upon him) said, 'Shall I not inform you of the head of the matter, its pillar and its peak?' I said, 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' He (peace be upon him) said, 'The head of the matter is Islam, its pillar is the prayer and its peak is jihad.' Then he (peace be upon him) said, 'Shall I not tell you of the foundation of all of that?' I said, 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' So he took hold of his tongue and said, 'Restrain this.' I said, 'O Prophet of Allah, will we be taken to account for what we say with it?' He (peace be upon him) said, 'May your mother be bereaved of you, O Muadh! Is there anything that throws people into the Hellfire upon their faces, or on their noses, except the harvests of their tongues?'

[Tirmidhi]"

The key points are as follows:

Essentials for Paradise:

- Muadh seeks advice from the Prophet (peace be upon him) on actions leading to Paradise and safeguarding against Hellfire.
- The Prophet's response emphasizes fundamental acts: worshiping Allah alone, establishing prayer, giving Zakah, observing fasting in Ramadan, and performing the pilgrimage.

Means of Goodness:

- The Prophet expands on additional means of goodness: fasting as a shield, charity erasing sins like water extinguishing fire, and night prayer.
- The emphasis on nighttime prayer highlights its significance in drawing near to Allah.

Guidance on the Essence of Islam:

-The Prophet succinctly outlines the essence of Islam: Islam as the head, prayer as its pillar, and jihad as its peak.
- This hierarchy signifies the centrality of submission to Allah, the importance of prayer, and the pinnacle of striving for His cause.

Foundation of All Matters:

-The Prophet identifies the foundation of all these principles by symbolically holding his tongue.
-The restraint of the tongue is emphasized, underscoring the accountability for careless words.

Warning Against Harmful Speech:
-The Prophet illustrates the potential harm of the tongue, emphasizing its role in leading individuals to the Hellfire.
-This serves as a powerful reminder of the consequences of thoughtless speech and the need for mindful communication.

In essence, this hadith imparts comprehensive guidance, urging believers to adhere to the fundamental tenets of Islam, engage in virtuous deeds, and exercise caution in their speech.

Muslim (2965) narrated that ‘Aamir ibn Sa‘d said:

Sa‘d ibn Abi Waqqaas was with his camels when his son ‘Umar came to him and when Sa‘d saw him he said: I seek refuge with Allah from the evil of this rider.

Then he dismounted and said to him: You are busy with your camels and sheep and you have left the people contending with one another for kingship?

Sa‘d struck him on the chest and said: Be quiet! I heard the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) say:

“Allah loves the slave who is pious, independent of means and hidden from the people.”

An-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

“hidden from the people” refers to one who is anonymous and is focused on worship and taking care of his own affairs. End quote.

Ibn al-Jawzi (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

What he meant by hidden from the people is one who is not known, because the one who is not known is usually safe.

End quote from Kashf al-Mushkil (p. 167)

Al-Fudayl ibn ‘Iyaad (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

If you are able not to be known, then do so. What harm will it do you if you are not known? What harm will it do you if no one praises you? What harm will it do you to be blameworthy before people if you are praiseworthy before Allah, may He be glorified and exalted?

End quote from at-Tawaadu‘ wa’l-Khumool by Abu Bakr al-Qurashi (p. 43).

Bimpe29:
Tayammum, a dry ablution in Islam, can be performed when water is not available or its use is medically prohibited. Here's a basic guide:

1. Intention (Niyyah): Have the intention in your heart to perform tayammum for purification.

2. Strike the Earth: Strike the surface of clean earth or sand with your hands.

3. Wipe Face: Wipe your face with both hands, ensuring to cover the entire face once.

4. Wipe Hands: Wipe your hands up to the wrists with the remaining dust on your hands.

Ensure your hands are clean before starting the process. Tayammum is a temporary substitute and should be followed by regular ablution when possible.
