Konquest: @Doylestown92,
My pleasure... Anytime.
Your insightful thread indeed brought back memories for me as well. Especially with reference to the U.S. Collegiate and U.S. NBA basketballer, Yinka Dare and his older brother Michael Dare, who I first personally knew as buddies back in the 1980s. They are one of the finest guys of Nigerian descent and paternally from Kabba.
Have a fulfilling year 2025 ahead!
Cheers. Most thanks to you, cheers also. |

Konquest: That's an impressive list of distinguished folks of Okun-Yoruba descent. I used to think the British-Nigerian co-founder of the iconic music group, Light House Family 'Tunde Baiyewu is paternally from Abeokuta in Ogun State but he's right here under Kogi State. A younger sister of his Kofo (who I know) is former President Olusegun Obasanjo's biological daughter married to a White guy. Sam Adeyemi is another surprise here... That's mad cool.
Yinka Dare (who is from Kabba but was born in 1972 in Kano. He painfully passed on in 2004 in New Jersey) played in the U.S. Collegiate basketball for George Washington University in the United States back from the early 1990s (long before we ever heard of the Bam Adebayos or the Giannis Adetokunbos of today).
Because of his very tall height at 7 ft tall, he was seen by American NBA analysts as the next big replacement for the iconic 2-time NBA MVP, Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon of the Houston Rockets after being drafted into the NBA, but his sudden death on January 9, 2004 at Englewood, New Jersey truncated that. Yinka Dare hailed from Kabba in the current Kogi State. He has a British-born biological older brother named Michael. I actually personally knew both of them from back in the day. Yinka Dare's commanding memories will remain.
OK, I found two good links. Read more about Yinka Dare right BELOW.

The iconic Chief Sunday Awoniyi who was the FIRST EVER Yoruba man to become the Chairman of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) in the 2000s till he passed on. His first son was also the past Deputy Governor of Kogi State when Governor Wada was in charge of Kogi State.
I also know of the seasoned TV and media personality Babajide Kolade Otitoju and a TV political analyst Gbola Oba who are both from Kogi State. The badass Gbola Oba was born in Lagos State though but is actually from Kogi.
Indeed, looking at the names here from a bird's eye view, Yoruba folks of Kogi State are NO pushovers. They are absolutely well-read and accomplished folks from the music maestro Art Alade (Dare Art Alade's biological father), to Yinka Dare of George Washington University and the U.S. NBA, to Tolu Arotile (the FIRST ever female combat helicopter pilot of the Nigerian Air Force in 2019 who actually flew on combat missions against terrorists), and more. Thank you so very much for updating my knowledge. |

In no particular order. As a Yoruba man from Kogi, I noticed there's less discussion about the Okun people. So I made this compilation of famous Okun people. We're one Yoruba people, this is not a competition against any other subgroup. Also, none Yoruba people should keep off, this thread is not for disunity, but just one more glory of the Yoruba people.

GeneralPula: Very true..
Oyo empire was a very strong & influential one. They made warriors out of both men & women. They fought wars and didn’t lose any. When Nupe people invaded Oyo back then, they couldn’t defeat Oyo so they changed their mind and succumbed. They started living with Oyo people, married Yoruba women and by the time they wanted to leave back to their region, their Yoruba wives followed them..
This is one of the reasons why Yoruba are many in Niger state till date. The late King of Niger state royal Tinubu *Jagaban of Borgu* for historical relation and other reasons.. Tinubu is Yoruba of Nupe Origin. Just like FFK. |

Meanwhile Natanyahu suffering fom Stage 3 cancer which is pretty advanced. It has most likely spread to his testes and they may need to be removed. It happened to Bobby Riggs. then even if the surgery was successful, if the cells have made their way to the lymph nodes, the cancer will still come back.
Same as former Israeli Prime Minister Sharon. Sharon suffered a hemorrhagic stroke on 4 January 2006, and remained in a long-term care facility in a vegetative state from late 2006 until his death. Sharon died at 14:00 on 11 January 2014. God works in mysterious ways.
Now I really am very curious to find out what God has in store for Netanyahu. Hopefully it's something worse than what Sharon had to endure.
What is even more sickening is the politicians who support these people. All western governments, including the US know very well that Israel is evil to the core. Yet, they support it. It's mind blowing. You should be ashamed of yourself for that Photoshop. |

Foreign Affairs › Re: What Russia Displayed Yesterday Was Pure Alien Technology by Doylestown92(m): 1:42pm On Nov 27, 2024 |
ElevationD: Some of the same reasons advanced by the old Soviet Union under Mikhail Gorbachev were what caused the Americans to withdraw. For the Soviets, they found out that the war was not winnable and they preferred to cut their costs.
The Americans achieved the destruction of Al Qaeda and its then leader, Osama Bin Laden. Need I to inform you that the plan to withdraw the close to 10,000 American troops in Afghanistan was put in place by Donald Trump? He signed the 2020 USA - Taliban deal that put restrictions on the fighting by both parties. That of course was the longest fighting in American history as it lasted for 20 years.
Now you may keep wondering why the USA could not defeat a “common” Taliban. In the same vein, you must wonder why Russia is taking 3 years now to fight or overrun a nuclear less Ukraine. The truth remains that possession of nuclear arms is termed “deterrence”. The USA would wipe Afghanistan off the surface of the earth one day. But could they have done that? No. There were very vital considerations, chief among them was the humanitarian crisis that it would cause. They would risk the entry of other nuclear powered nations like Russia and China.
As already stated, they wanted to eliminate Al Qaeda and other terrorists groups in that area. They achieved that objective. They are signatories to the nuclear non proliferation treaty. Employing nuclear weapons would have severely damaged the US reputation as a global leader and they would be violating international law, just like Netanyahu has been accused. For this same reason, in the face of opposition from NATO in Eastern Europe, Russia WILL NOT use nuclear weapons against Israel or NATO either.
The Americans have largely been criticized for leaving behind, such huge amounts of weapons. However when you look at it logistically, you’d find that it was not that easy, especially with the time constraints of vacating Afghanistan. What about the cost of putting them together from their different locations? Again the Americans expected the Afghan armed forces to take charge of the weapons, but sadly they capitulated to Taliban. However some of the weapons have allowed the Americans to have a limited presence in the region.
The Americans destroyed or disabled some of the equipment that they left behind, including aircraft. During the withdrawal, US forces destroyed or disabled 73 aircraft, including A-29s and Black Hawks, to prevent them from being used by the Taliban. We saw Taliban fighters posing on them. But have they put any to use? NO. They cannot. He doesn't understands your explanation. He thinks it's Maiduguri politics. |
