Sports / Ukrainian Goalkeeper Sacked For Supporting Russia World Cup Win Apologises by drewsman: 11:17pm On Jul 07, 2018
Ukrainian goalkeeper Mikhail Gotra has apologised
after having his contract with FC Karpaty terminated
for cheering on Russia on his Instagram page.
Gotra, 18, posted a Russia flag, accompanied by
the word "bravo!" and a photoshopped image of
himself with a moustache, contributing to a viral
campaign originated in Russia in support of the
national head coach Stanislav Cherchesov.

"I've been giving my all to sports all my conscious
life," Gotra said in a post on Instagram. "I've always
stayed away from politics and I didn't even think
my emotional act would make big news, which
would stir up not just our country but also
neighbouring countries.

"I've always been, am and will be a proud
Ukrainian. I've been and stay loyal to Ukrainian
football and its traditions.
"Now, I've really thought over my act and
understood that it was unacceptable for the fans. I
realise and accept that anger that has been coming
from them. Indeed, all the fans are true patriots of
their state and Ukrainian football and I admire them
for that. It is to the fans I want to say sorry for my
emotional act.

"As for the club's decision, I think in professional
football such decisions must not be taken on
emotions. I want to ask the media not to bother me
with unnecessary questions. I don't want to make
any comments until I dot all the 'i's and cross the
't's."

In a post on Facebook, Karpaty vice-president Oleg
Smaliychuk took responsibility for the decision.
"It was my personal decision on Gotra and I, as the
club's manager, take full responsibility for
terminating his contract," he said. "It might be too
radical and emotional, but football is impossible
without emotions. As in war. My brothers are being
killed almost every day. Therefore I don't give a s---
about what those Pro-Russian tramps think. God
will judge them. And I ask the fans to forgive the
boy, he surely regrets about what he's done."
Ukraine's Minister of Sport and Youth Igor Zhdanov
also spoke out in favour, writing on his Facebook
page that it was "the right decision from the Karpaty
board."

His post linked to Ukrainian news outlet Zaxid.net,
which stated: "The club refused to comment on the
issue, but approved that the player's contract has
been terminated." However, former vice-president of
Ukraine's Football Federation Anatoly Popov called
the decision "idiotic."
"Sport is outside politics, but unfortunately in
modern Ukraine it's become so political in recent
times," Popov said "The hatred can't be good for
anyone. There's no such thing as 'football
separatism' in our disciplinary regulations and you
can't just terminate a player's contract for that. It's
simply idiotic."

The reaction in Russia has been the opposite, with
condemnation from football officials and in the
media.

"You are not allowed to discriminate against players
for their political views as long as they are within
the law," Russia's head of the Professional
Footballers Union Aleksandr Zotov said. "I would
understand it if the player had pro-Nazi views, but
this is an absolutely absurd situation. If he appeals
the decision in Ukraine, FIFA or even Lausanne [at
the Court of Arbitration for Sport], he'll win the case
100 percent."

Russian new outlet Championat published a story
with the headline "Obscurantism, the Ukrainian way."
"You can now have your contract terminated in
Ukraine simply by photoshopping your picture,
adding a moustache, putting a hashtag
#moustacheofhope and adding a Russian flag," a
columnist wrote. "Oh, and to be happy for the result
of a football match, like when Russia beat Spain,
which can lead to similar consequences.

"Freedom of speech, globalisation and democracy
are all symbols of a future that will inevitably come.
It's such a shame that in a country where so much
effort has been spent on bringing these values
closer, many still do not understand this even at the
level of political elites.
"We can only hope that among ordinary Ukrainians
this story causes the same feeling of absurdity as
any adequate person experienced when he heard
this nonsense."

Sports / Maradona Offers To Manage Argentina For Free After World Cup 2018 Flop by drewsman: 3:29pm On Jul 03, 2018
The Albiceleste icon was a passionate
supporter on Russian soil this summer and
admits he would happily step back into a
coaching post if asked

Diego Maradona has offered to manage
Argentina for free in the wake of their
disappointing showing at World Cup 2018.

The Albiceleste headed to Russia as outsiders
for global glory, but were expected to go well if
they could bring the best out of mercurial
forward Lionel Messi.

The Barcelona superstar was unable to provide
the spark required of him, with too much
expectation placed on the shoulders of one
player as those around him struggled.

Argentina did stumble their way through to the
last 16, but Jorge Sampaoli faced intense
criticism before and after a thrilling 4-3 second
round defeat to France.

His future is now being seriously called into
question, along with that of Messi, with it
expected that a new era in Argentine football
will soon be opened .

Maradona would jump at the chance to join that
project if asked, with the 1986 World Cup
winner prepared to work without payment for
the good of his country.

He told Telesur: “Yes, and I would do it for free.
“I wouldn't ask for anything in return.”
Maradona has already spent one spell at the
Argentina helm, with that stint taking in the
2010 World Cup.

He was unable to replicate the success of his
playing days in a coaching capacity, with a 4-0
defeat to Germany suffered at the quarter-final
stage.

An iconic figure has, however, remained a
passionate follower of his nation’s fortunes and
was a lively presence in the stands throughout
their campaign in Russia.

His antics often saw him make headlines for all
of the wrong reasons, with his goal celebrations
and general health called into question , but he
has always been quick to hit back at his critics.
That remains the case as Russia 201
continues without Argentina, with an all-time
great eager to point out that he never wanted to
see his country fail despite what some might
think.

He added: “People think I am happy but my
heart is heavy.
“I feel really bad that everything we built with so
much effort we destroyed so easily.”
Whoever guides Argentina forward, their focus is
already starting to shift towards future
challenges.

A Copa America quest is to be taken in on
Brazilian soil in 2019, while another qualification
campaign will need to be successfully
negotiated if the Albiceleste are to be back in
the hunt for World Cup glory at Qatar 2022.

Sports / Eboue: Guardiola Was Killing Toure's Career And Man City Exit Had To Happen by drewsman: 2:54pm On Jul 03, 2018
The Ivorian has left the Premier League
champions as a free agent amid a flurry of
insults, with a fellow countryman understanding
his frustration

Yaya Toure had to get out of Manchester City
because Pep Guardiola was “killing his career
as a footballer”, says fellow Ivorian Emmanuel
Eboue.

After eight years at the Etihad Stadium which
delivered three Premier League titles and
domestic cup triumphs, a Blues legend has
headed for the exit .

Toure has moved on at the end of his contract,
with the 35-year-old having dropped into the
free agent pool as he weighs up his options.
He has not gone quietly, with a flurry of insults
aimed in the direction of Guardiola from both
the iconic midfielder and his agent, with a
relationship first strained at Barcelona failing to
be rebuilt in England.

Eboue claims to understand the frustration of a
countryman, with the former Arsenal defender
telling KweseESPN on the need for a fresh
start: "As a player, there is a time you
completely cannot work with a coach and
because of your future, you must go.

"It was evident Pep Guardiola did not like my
brother Yaya right from the Barcelona days.
"It is the best decision for Yaya to get away
from Guardiola's territory because he was killing
his career as a footballer.

"I think Yaya's last one year has been hell
because he was not playing enough. For a
professional footballer that is very terrible."

Toure accused Guardiola of being “jealous” of
him and having a problem with African players
while his agent, Dimitri Seluk, branded the
former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss
“worthless” .

The Catalan has hit back at what he considers
to be “lies” , but Eboue believes there were
clearly issues between a high-profile player and
manager and that a parting of ways is best for
all concerned.

He added: "Sometimes it's not all about the
money.
"When your relationship as a player is not good
with the manager and it does not seem like it
will improve, it is always better to move
elsewhere.

"Yaya is a great player and leader and I think he
still has some years to continue playing at the
highest level.
"He is the kind of player who can turn things
round and he always wants to win."

Sports / VAR Decisions At World Cup 99.3 Percent Accurate - FIFA by drewsman: 1:15am On Jun 30, 2018
FIFA says video reviews are "close to perfection" at
the first World Cup to use the system, claiming
99.3 percent of "match-changing" plays were called
correctly.
The system has had a major impact, with seven
penalties awarded using the video assistant referee
(VAR) system. Two goals were given after being
initially ruled offside, including one by South Korea
that helped to eliminate world champion Germany.
FIFA's referee committee head Pierluigi Collina
claimed on Friday that 99.3 percent of "match-
changing" decisions were called correctly at the
World Cup -- "very, very close to perfection" --
based on assessments by him and other senior ex-
referees. Without VAR, the figure would be 95
percent, Collina said.
That missing 0.7 percent in Collina's statistic is
still bitterly contentious. Serbia's coach suggested
a referee should be sent to a war-crimes tribunal
when his team didn't get a penalty after two Swiss
defenders appeared to hold Aleksandar Mitrovic in
the penalty area, while English media complained
about Tunisian defenders grappling with striker
Harry Kane.
Collina didn't address those plays directly, but
suggested they prompted a warning to referees to
be stricter about holding in the penalty area.
"I think you might have appreciated that at a certain
point of the group phase there were some incidents
which suddenly disappeared," he said. "We had
some holdings and they almost disappeared, but if
they continued they were punished with the
corresponding decision."
That's an example of the refereeing system being
"fine-tuned," Collina said.
VAR means players and viewers expect more from
referees. FIFA's head of refereeing Massimo
Busacca expressed frustration about the interest in
errors.
"Today you are asking to be God, perfect," he said.
"Who is perfect in this life?"
On the whole, FIFA views VAR's rollout as a
success. Before the World Cup, there were
concerns about referees who hadn't used the
system before, about slower games and pedantic
rulings on minor fouls. However, FIFA says the ball
has been in play for longer than at the last World
Cup and total fouls are down through 48 games.
The VAR crews, wearing full referee kit in a
darkened room on the outskirts of Moscow, are
urged to view incidents at normal speed so they
aren't too harsh on slight contact between players.
They can use slow-motion to find the point of
contact, but normal speed to decide how serious it
was.
"Everything with slow-mo or super slow-mo seems
bigger, seems tougher, seems more deliberate,"
Collina said. "Football is a sport where contact
doesn't mean a foul."
The VAR crews have examined 335 incidents -- 6.9
per game -- including all the goals, but flagged only
17 for formal review. Fourteen decisions were
changed and three were upheld.
Collina said he hopes for VAR discussions between
referees and the control room to be part of TV
broadcasts in future. However, FIFA's deputy
secretary general Zvonimir Boban immediately
pushed back against that idea, saying the mix of
languages at the World Cup could make it
"impossible" for broadcasters.
The more VAR is used, the more players demand
it. Players and coaches are constantly drawing a TV
screen with their fingers at this World Cup, but
Collina said referees should only book players if it's
meant to be "disrespectful."
Referees themselves aren't allowed to speak with
reporters, but FIFA says they welcome VAR.
"In some situations, I prayed a lot when something
occurred. I said `My God, what happened?' And
then, at the end I was lucky in very difficult
circumstances. Sometimes I decided without
seeing, only made an interpretation from distance,"
said Busacca, who had a long refereeing career
including two World Cups. "What we want to give to
the referees is this big opportunity not to be lucky."

Sports / Nigeria Bosses Must Leave Gernot Rohr To Do His Job by drewsman: 9:02pm On Jun 29, 2018
Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr turned 65 on Thursday,
two days after his Super Eagles team suffered a
gut-punch style elimination from the World Cup at
the hands of perennial nemeses Argentina.
What a perfect birthday present it would have been
for the German if his team had managed to keep
the Argentines at bay for a few minutes longer to
seal a place in the World Cup round of 16.
Instead, they were left ruing missed opportunities
and packing their bags to head home, and Rohr
was left to reflect on a somber day, as most of his
players dispersed to various parts of Europe, while
a few waited to board their flight home to Nigeria.
As if those rueful ruminations were not bad enough,
there have been calls in certain quarters In Nigeria
for Rohr to be relieved of his duties.
Commentary in the media have dwelled on the
German's failure to make the tactical and personnel
changes required in the last few minutes to batten
the hatches and hold on for the point that would
have seen the Super Eagles advance.
Comparisons have also been made with the last
World Cup in Brazil, where the late Stephen Keshi, a
home-grown coach, took Nigeria to the round of 16
with way less support and preparation than Rohr
had with the current squad.
All of this sacking talk completely misses the mark
by failing to see the big picture, and instead,
reverting to the same knee jerk reaction that follows
every World Cup disappointment.
Why this should even be up for conversation points
to Nigeria's, and perhaps, Africa's continued failure
to establish anything beyond a tenuous toehold on
world football's biggest stage. No African side has
reached the last 16 in Russia.
In 1994, after Clemens Westerhof had spent the
previous five years building what amounts to
Nigeria's Golden Generation, he was frustrated into
leaving immediately after the country exited that
tournament.
Between the start of qualifying for the World Cup in
1998 and the end of the tournament, Nigeria had
three coaches. Bora Milutinovic, who eventually led
the team to France, barely waited for the final ball
to be kicked before going on his merry way.
In 2002, Shuaibu Amodu negotiated a tortuous
qualifying route, but was given the boot before
Adegboyega Onigbinde was handed the reins for
the tournament proper, and he took a scalpel to the
squad. By the end of the tournament, he too made
way.
For the 2010 tournament, Amodu again successfully
guided the Super Eagles through qualifying hoops,
and went as far as making it to the World Cup
draws before he too was shown the door with
months to go to the tournament. Swede Lars
Largerback led the team to South Africa in his
place, and was off back to Sweden by the time the
final whistle went.
This cycle of hire, fire, repeat and reboot every four
years does near irreparable damage both to the
psyche of players, and the continued good health of
the national team. Players are required to adjust to
a new boss almost every other year, learning new
tactics, working under different regimens.
Sometimes, on-field personnel changes that a new
coach implements breaks up the existing rhythm,
making it difficult for players to build any lasting
chemistry.
And then there is that much-recycled word
whenever a new coach takes the reins: "rebuilding".
Onigbinde, Christian Chukwu, Amodu, Samson
Siasia, Keshi, Sunday Oliseh and more recently
Rohr.
Since 2002, Nigeria has been stuck on a seeming
time warp of 'rebuilding'. And yet, the same core
group of players form the nucleus of the team each
time. Only Rohr, so far, has had the courage to
break from the mold and actually work towards a
proper long term plan by keeping his focus on
young players.
He has significantly lowered the average age of the
squad, found, developed and blooded a talented
teen in Francis Uzoho, who could end up manning
the goalpost for maybe the next 15-odd years, and
introduced a style of play that appears to be the
best way to exploit the personnel at his disposal.
In doing so, he qualified for the World Cup
unbeaten in the face of strong opposition from a
cast of past and present African champions. His
team may have looked listless against Croatia, but
second half friendly performances in the buildup to
the World Cup, and games against Iceland and
Argentina, showed that there is a spine, purpose
and method to the madness.
With a few additions and subtractions to the squad,
this team could be well-positioned to become the
second Golden Generation of Nigerian football.
Trying to toss all of that overboard for the sake of
a reboot would be just plain illogical.
By far the best way to celebrate Rohr's birthday is
to leave him alone to carry on with the job he has
done so far. It would be the best gift Nigerian
Football could give Rohr, not to mention Super
Eagles players and fans.

Sports / World Cup Round Of 16 Dominated By Europe Vs. South America Duels by drewsman: 7:12pm On Jun 29, 2018
It is just as well for Colombia that their only top
performance in the World Cup so far came against
European opposition. Their 3-0 win over Poland
needs to be the template for what is to come.
That's because Colombia are the only non-European
side in their half of the draw.
Overcome England on Tuesday, and they will meet
either Sweden or Switzerland the following Saturday.
Get through that one and it is a semifinal against
either Spain, Russia, Croatia or Denmark.
There is one Asian team in the last 16 and one
from the CONCACAF region. Other than that, it is a
case of whether South America can prevent a third
consecutive European World Cup triumph. And
Colombia's game with England is the third of three
South America vs. Europe clashes in the second
round.
The trio starts with a match in which there is a
clear favourite. True, France have been hugely
disappointing so far, but they rarely look like
conceding a goal. That's in stark contrast to
Argentina, who appear on the verge of a
catastrophe every time they are placed under
attack.
The World Cup is like time speeded up, and teams
suddenly come together and click during the course
of the competition. Morale in the Argentine camp
will have greatly improved since they avoided a
humiliating first-round exit. And the team look to
have a better balance since the senior players have
obliged coach Jorge Sampaoli to keep things
simple, with an orthodox back four rather than the
constant improvisations that he was being panicked
into.
All the same, a question hangs over the game.
France clearly have much more to give. But do
Argentina? Do their ageing team have the legs to
cope with a rival which is younger, better balanced
and better rested?
Obviously they have the individual genius of Lionel
Messi. But in all of the teams that remain in the
tournament, is there a more formidable opponent to
take care of the Messi marking duty than France's
N'Golo Kante? If Argentina can haul themselves
through this round, it will surely take an epic effort
well worthy of a place in the history books.
Uruguay's game against Portugal would seem like a
more evenly matched affair -- extremely evenly
matched, since the teams are almost mirror
reflections of each other. Both are pragmatic units
built in support of world-class strikers -- Cristiano
Ronaldo for Portugal, Luis Suarez and Edinson
Cavani for Uruguay.
Much will clearly be made of the Madrid
dimension, Ronaldo of Real against the Atletico
centre-back pairing of Diego Godin and Jose Maria
Gimenez. The fitness of the latter will be important.
Has he made a complete recovery from the injury
that kept him out of the Russia game? Ronaldo will
be probing.
At the other end, can Suarez and Cavani get behind
an ageing pair of Portugal centre-backs? They will
need supply, and Uruguay looked much better
balanced in possession with the tweak to the
formation that they introduced during the game
against Russia. With the sides so well matched,
extra time and penalties cannot be ruled out.
Colombia bring the round to an end with their
match against England. It was interesting to see the
England side sit deep in their match against
Belgium. Even bearing in mind that coach Gareth
Southgate was fielding a reserve side, it begged the
question of whether this will be his tactical
approach for the rest of the tournament, taking
advantage of his team's pace on the counter-attack.
Colombia, though, have been at their least
impressive at those moments when they have been
forced back inside their own half -- as Japan did to
them after the interval of the opening game, and as
Senegal did for the opening 45 minutes on
Thursday. Once they are forced back, centre-forward
Radamel Falcao Garcia offers little, especially if he
can be isolated from winger Juan Guillermo
Cuadrado and star man James Rodriguez.
The latter is clearly an injury worry for Colombia.
The key to the outstanding performance against
Poland, Colombia's best since the last World Cup,
was the link up between Rodriguez and Juan
Fernando Quintero. In the absence of the skill and
dynamism of James, Colombia lose plenty.
Quintero, though, remains a threat, with the quality
of his set piece delivery and his left-footed passes
for Falcao, who will probe for holes in the England
back three -- all the more reason, then, to force the
Colombians back.

Sports / World Cup On Pace For Penalty Kick Record With Use Of Video Assistant Referee by drewsman: 5:28am On Jun 24, 2018
SAMARA, Russia -- There have already been more
penalties awarded in the first 28 games of the
2018 World Cup in Russia than in the entire
tournament four years ago in Brazil.
Carlos Vela's penalty in Mexico's match with South
Korea on Saturday was the 14th spot kick awarded
so far, meaning there has now been a penalty once
every two games, with 11 of the penalties having
been successfully converted.
Belgium's Eden Hazard also scored from the spot
after the video assistant referee (VAR) advised that
he had been fouled in the penalty area during
Belgium's 5-2 win over Tunisia earlier on Saturday.
In Brazil four years ago, there were only 13
penalties in the entire tournament. The World Cup
record, set in 2002, stands at 18, with the current
pace of penalties being awarded in Russia on pace
to shatter that number.
The role of VAR goes a long way to explaining this
trend, with six penalties so far being awarded
following a video review and VAR has also
confirmed referees' decisions on the field on
several occasions.
A penalty was also disallowed in Brazil's win over
Costa Rica on Friday after VAR deemed there not to
have been a foul on Neymar.
FIFA's director of refereeing, Massimo Busacca,
said before the tournament that VAR would not be
perfect at the tournament and so it has proved, with
inconsistency in decision making frustrating teams
and fans alike.
Both Brazil and England felt that VAR should have
been used to review penalty decisions in their
opening fixtures, while Australia coach Bert van
Marwijk was left furious with the role the system
played in his team's loss to France.
"I hoped that maybe one time there will be a
referee [who is] very honest," the Dutchman told
reporters after that match. "The body language was
that he didn't know from my position. And then you
have to take a decision."
However, FIFA remain convinced that VAR has been
a success.
"Generally, it should be noted that FIFA is extremely
satisfied with the level of refereeing to date and the
successful implementation of the VAR system,
which on the whole has been positively accepted
and appreciated within our football community,"
said FIFA Media Relations Manager Giovanni Marti.
If the current rate of 0.5 penalties a game
continues, then the World Cup is on course for a
total of 32 spot kicks being awarded by the
tournament's end.

Please note that the *English Premier League* is starting *today* (11 August), please do well to handover the remote to your husbands and Boyfriends.
Any attempt to continue watching Zee World and Telemundo will be seriously resisted and would be treated like Evans..

Career / Re: EXCLUSIVE! Architects In Crisis As NIA, ARCON Registration War Gets Messier by drewsman: 9:12am On Jul 08, 2017
spectator2001:
NIA is not a REGULATORY BODY. It is an association of Architects. Association of individuals with common interest to seek the well-being and mutual knowledge dissemination/sharing of its MEMBERS through organizing of conferences, symposiums and lecture series etc. -the keyword here is Members.

On the other hand ARCON is the REGULATORY body for the profession saddled with the responsibility of regulating the practice of the profession and granting of licences to graduates of architectural schools to practice the profession of architecture as ARCHITECTS. Hence an Architect certified as an Architect by ARCON is at liberty to ignore membership of NIA or join the association if he/she so wishes.
but its NIA dat trains us nw. I mean you register and write NIA exams to qualify you to be a registered architect

D concept is nice but the Land isn't adequately managed... Check an example below

I'll still prefer the op's design to this your own
I can't see architecture in yours. it lacks creativity
