Aisha Buhari, the wife of Nigeria’s president-elect, has assured the people of Nigeria of the incoming government’s commitment to the development of children in every geopolitical zone of the country. In a statement released to mark the International Children’s Day on May 27, Mrs. Buhari said education was going to be one of the main focuses of the incoming APC government. “Our children are our future,” she said. “Education of our children is thebest way to secure the future of our country. ”Mrs. Buhari also called for the implementation of the Child Rights Act which has been passed by the National Assembly, which is yet to be adopted by all the states of Nigeria. “Even if it means adapting the Act to suit their specific needs,” she said, “the Child Rights Act must be adoptedin every single state of our country. ”The incoming First Lady also assured Nigerians that, despite the need to focus on eradicating Boko Haram andrestoring normalcy to life in the northeast states of Nigeria, especially regarding encouraging children to return to school and making schools safe for all children, no child in any other part of Nigeria will be left out of the Buhari government’s plan for children. “No child in Nigeria will be left out of my husband’s plan for Nigeria,” she said. “Every child in every geopoliticalzone of the country will be taken careof by the APC federal government.” http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/183716-my-husbands-plan-covers-every-nigerian-child-aisha-buhari.html |

President Goodluck Jonathan has urged the incoming Muhammadu Buhari-led government not to discardthe report of the 2014 National Conference, which he initiated steps to implement before losing the recent election. The president tasked Mr. Buhari to appreciate the good contributions made by Nigerians towards nation-building irrespective of political party or creed. The president spoke shortly after being decorated with the “Peace-Loving Global Citizen” Award by the Universal Peace Forum led by lawyer,Mike Ozehkome, at the Presidential Villa, Tuesday. He expressed hope that the incoming administration would take the time to appreciate the contributions of Nigerians from every part of the country in the efforts to build a greater nation. The president enjoined Nigerians to strengthen the weak cleavages which abound in the country and not to exploit them for negative reasons. He said everyone must be ready to make sacrifices. “We have our challenges, of course,” he said. “We had a national conference; the idea of the conference is to look at these weak cleavages we have in this country. “And we just finished that conferenceand we are thinking about how to implement it so that Nigeria will become more stronger and united nation. I cannot be a party to the disintegration of the country. “But I’m quite pleased with what has happened. We have a country; our country will be more united. I believe and do pray that the incoming government should appreciate the contributions of everybody and see how we run Nigeria as a country that belongs to everybody, for all citizens; irrespective of political persuasion or creed; so that is what I stand for. ”Accepting his latest award, Mr. Jonathan said he would not be party to the disintegration of Nigeria, whichwas one of the reasons he conceded defeat after the presidential polls. He said even if he ruled Nigeria for the next 25 years, he would not be at peace with himself if it led to the deaths of Nigerians. “I took that decision (to concede to Buhari) because I told those around me that no matter the ambition, the nation comes first,” he said. He told the public that his Vice-President, Namadi Sambo, and the Peoples Democratic Party equally deserved the encomiums poured on him following his historic telephone call to congratulate Mr. Buhari after the March 28 poll. In his remarks, Mr. Ozekhome praised Mr. Jonathan’s gesture, whichhe said had positively put Nigeria onthe global map. “Given your uncommon, almost unnatural gesture of conceding victory to your opponent, we want you to go back to Otuoke a very proud man,” he said. “You are the greatest democrat we have ever had in this country. Historywill be fair to you. ”He, however, warned the outgoing president that he would have little rest after office since he would be invited to several world fora to lend his experience and touch to democracy. Describing the president as a global peace ambassador, Mr. Ozekhome announced the nomination of Mr. Jonathan to the board of the UPF in place of former head of state, Ernest Shonekan, who stepped down recently. Mr. Ozekhome also invited Mr. Jonathan to an international conference of the Forum holding in Seoul, South Korea in August. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/183711-dont-dump-national-conference-report-jonathan-urges-buhari.html |
Wont PDP come to his aid? Na wa o! D den PDP I know, who will dare their member buh d tsunami of change has dispersed dem into d forest... Sorry, Kashamu |
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has said that an order issued by a federal court, Tuesday, directing its personnel to vacate Buruji Kashamu’s home, would not stop it from performing its statutory responsibilities “in a lawful manner”. Mr. Kashamu, a prominent member of the Peoples’ Democratic Party and Senator-elect for Ogun East, is wanted in the United States for drug related offences. A Court in Lagos had issued a ruling ordering NDLEA operatives who had laid a siege on Mr. Kashamu’s home in Lagos, since the early hours of Saturday, to vacate the politician’s house. The NDLEA said its operatives placed Mr. Kashamu under house arrest after it received a formal extradition request from the U.S.On Monday, Mr. Kashamu failed to appear for the extradition hearing, with his lawyers claiming that the anti-narcotics agency did not have a court warrant for the house arrest. In addition to the court’s vacation order on Tuesday, the judge also summoned Mohammed Adoke and Ahmadu Giade, the Attorney General of the Federation and the Chairman of the NDLEA respectively, to appear before him at the next adjourned date. But in a reaction to the vacation order, the NDLEA said it had not received the court order and described media reports of the judge’s decision as “diversionary and inconsequential”. “The NDLEA does not believe that anycourt will issue an order preventing a government agency from performingits statutory responsibilities in a lawful manner,” Mitchell Ofoyeju, the agency’s spokesperson said in a statement. “The agency has therefore refused to be distracted and will continue to maintain presence at the residence. It is advisable that Kashamu respects the law by submitting himself to the due process of the law. “The NDLEA wishes to reiterate that his rights like that of other citizens shall be respected and the due process of law followed in this case. “The agency is prepared to further increase her public rating and goodwill in the areas of suspect handling, respect for human rights and the rule of law. We are prepared to explore all legal means in handling this case to a logical conclusion. ”The NDLEA spokesperson insisted that the agency had received a formal request from the United States Government for Mr. Kashamu’s extradition. He also said that contrary to the claims by Mr. Kashamu’s lawyers, that the agency has a provisional Warrant of Arrest on him. "According to official record, Kashamu has been a target of both the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for over 20 years and was further indicted by the Grand Jury in the Northern District of Illinois, United States on heroin trafficking charges,” Mr. Ofoyeju said. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/183705-ndlea-dares-court-vows-to-maintain-siege-on-kashamus-house.html |
