Religion / Re: 5 Interesting And Shocking Facts About Sunday For Christians by drjellyjoe: 1:52pm On Aug 28, 2015
AllNaijaBlogger:

I'm sorry but I will have to disagree.

The etymology is what we are talking about. The origin of the word "sunday" and not the origin of the practice of worshiping on Sunday.

Just google it and you will see that it has pagan origins.

Okay, yes, you are right.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Names_of_the_days_of_the_week

Between the 1st and 3rd centuries the Roman Empire gradually replaced the eight-day Roman nundinal cycle with the seven-day week. Our earliest evidence for this new system is a Pompeiian graffito referring to the 6th February (viii idus Februarius) of the year AD 60 as dies solis ("Sunday"wink. Another early witness is a reference to a lost treatise by Plutarch, written in about AD 100, which addressed the question of Why are the days named after the planets reckoned in a different order from the actual order?.

Sunday: Old English Sunnandæg (pronounced [ˈsunnɑndæj]), meaning "sun's day." This is a translation of the Latin phrase dies Solis. English, like most of the Germanic languages, preserves the original pagan/sun associations of the day. Many other European languages, including all of the Romance languages, have changed its name to the equivalent of "the Lord's day" (based on Ecclesiastical Latin dies Dominica). In both West Germanic and North Germanic mythology the Sun is personified as a goddess, Sunna/Sól.

Pastor Conrad Mbewe evaluates the doctrines, claims, and practices of the modern charismatic movement in Africa, and affirms the true Person and ministry of the Holy Spirit. He speaks of how pastors are turning into witchdoctors who see medical doctors as competition, "men of God", extra-ordinary gifts, prayer meetings in the hills, etc.

He stars with 2 Timothy 3:16, which speaks of the Bible being an all sufficient resource (which the Christian minister ought to be using).

At around 6:18 he begins to talk about some stories from the newspapers.

About point #2, that is a myth.

Acts 20:6-12 And we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread, and came unto them to Troas in five days; where we abode seven days. (7) And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight. (cool And there were many lights in the upper chamber, where they were gathered together. (9) And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead. (10) And Paul went down, and fell on him, and embracing him said, Trouble not yourselves; for his life is in him. (11) When he therefore was come up again, and had broken bread, and eaten, and talked a long while, even till break of day, so he departed. (12) And they brought the young man alive, and were not a little comforted.

Here Paul sails with Luke, the author of Acts, to Troas, a church which he had planted, and stays for 7 days. Now Paul was there on Saturday, but that is not when Luke tells us the church worshiped. Saturday was not their customary day for worship. When was the day when the disciples came together to worship? We read the answer in verse 7, it was first day of the week, and the first day of the week is NOT Monday, the first day of the week is Sunday. That is when they had their corporate worship including the Lord’s Supper (hence the reference to the breaking of bread) and preaching, and a very long sermon. But why had they made that change?

They had made the change because it was on the first day of the week that Jesus Christ forever set that day apart from all the others by rising from the dead. From that point onwards Sunday became a memorial to the turning point in the history of redemption. The Sabbath day from the beginning was the Seventh Day, and hearkened back to the Creation. The original Sabbath pointed to God’s creating work, but the Christian Sabbath points us to God’s redeeming work. It marks the great transition in the bible from redemption promised to redemption accomplished.

As RC Sproul put it – “In Christian history the sacred time of the Sabbath has three distinct orientations. The first is the commemoration of God’s work of creation. The second is the celebration of God’s work of redemption. The third is the celebration of the future promise of the consummation of redemption when we enter our Sabbath rest in heaven. Thus the whole scope of redemptive history, from start to finish, is made sacred in the observance of the Sabbath.”

Jesus also marked that day by appearing to his disciples after his resurrection on successive Sundays in John 20:19 and John 20:26 and it was why they called that day the Lord’s Day as John did in Revelation 1:10 – “I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day, and I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet”

All the references in early Christian writings also make reference to Christian worship being held on the Lord’s Day, for instance the Didache – which dates back to either the late 1st or early 2nd century states, “Chapter 14. Christian Assembly on the Lord’s Day. But every Lord’s day gather yourselves together, and break bread, and give thanksgiving after having confessed your transgressions, that your sacrifice may be pure.”

Ignatius, the celebrated martyred bishop of Antioch, says, in his epistle to the Magnesians, written somewhere between 107-116 AD, that this is “the Lord’s day, the day consecrated to the resurrection the queen and chief of all the days.”

Justin Martyr, who died about A. D. 160 says that the Christians “neither celebrated the Jewish festivals, nor observed their Sabbaths, nor practiced circumcision.” And in another place, wrote that “they, both those who lived in the city and those who lived in the country, were all accustomed to meet on the day which is denominated Sunday, for the reading of the Scriptures, prayer, exhortation and communion. The assembly met on Sunday, because this is the first day on which God, having changed the darkness and the elements, created the world; and because Jesus our Lord on this day rose from the dead.”

Was this written by Satan himself?

Point #10 is correct, but it seems like this list is attacking the very fundamentals of God's truth.

I'm not going to bother to reprove every point as you can simply read the Bible to see that this list is anti-Christian, but I will disprove point #1.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

John 10:7-9 Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. (cool All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them. (9) I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

Religion / Re: Why Do Christians Ignore These Rules In The Bible? by drjellyjoe: 9:07pm On Aug 27, 2015
Christians are to stand fast in the liberty with which Christ hath made them free, and not to be entangled again with the yoke of bondage (Gal 5:1). This is speaking of how Christ abolished the "law of commandments contained in ordinances" (Ephesians 2:15).

The purpose of the ceremonial law was temporary, partly of worship, to point the Jewish church to Christ (Gal 3:24-25). Certain prohibitions, including the one to abstain from shellfish were of a temporary nature. When the purpose of the prohibition was fulfilled in Christ such restrictions were done away with (Acts 10:15, Gal 5:1-4, Matt 15:11, Col 2:20-23).

There is the matter of discerning the ceremonial (which are abrogated, see Hebrews 9 and Colossians 2) from the moral which is binding at all times and in all places. Homosexuality is not a problem in that matter as it is condemned in the New Testament. In Romans 1:27, it is called an "error". See the following NT verses: Romans 1:26-27, Jude 1:7, 2 Peter 2:6

EDIT: I forgot to explain the threefold division of the law. There are the ceremonial ordinances (ceremonies and rites of the Jerusalem temple and sacrifice), civil/judicial laws that were made only for the government of Israel (such as punishment for crimes), and the moral law (10 Commandments). Paul said "Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.", and this is speaking of the moral law which are the commandments of God. Jesus said "if ye love me, keep my commandments".

Some teachings of Joseph Smith:

Joseph Smith said that the Book of Mormon was more correct than the Bible. (History of the Church, vol. 4, p. 461).

There are many gods throughout the universe, (Mormon Doctrine, by Bruce R. McConkie, p. 163, McConkie was very high up in the Mormon church and was one of its 12 apostles).

There is a mother goddess (the wife of Elohim, a man who became a god), (Articles of Faith, by James Talmage, p. 443).
God used to be a man on another planet, (Mormon Doctrine, p. 321).

After you become a good Mormon, you have the potential of becoming a god, (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pages 345-347, 354, Joseph Smith is the founder of Mormonism).

God resides near a star called Kolob, Pearl of Great Price, pages 34-35, Mormon Doctrine, p. 428. The Pearl of Great Price is official Mormon scripture).

The Trinity is three separate gods, (James Talmage, Articles of Faith, p. 35).

God is increasing in knowledge, (Joseph Smith, Journal of Discourses, vol. 6, p. 120).

Smith's claims of the Israelites being in South America having battles has no evidence. He bought an Egyptian scroll and claimed that it was written by Abraham when it was not. He claimed to have golden plates which no one else saw. He was once convicted of being a con man, and he was a freemason. He claimed to have the power of "glass-looking" by looking through glass to see treasure buried in the ground. He was a polygamist that spoke of polygamy as the highest form of exaltation. He made false prophecies. He was also a racist, and so was his cult, (see this https://carm.org/mormonism-and-the-negro).

The so called "restored gospel":
2 Nephi 24:23 - For we labor diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do.

The Book of Mormon, Alma 11:37 “And I say unto you again that he cannot save them in their sins; for I cannot deny his word, and he hath said that no unclean thing can inherit the kingdom of heaven; therefore, how can ye be saved, except ye inherit the kingdom of heaven? Therefore, ye cannot be saved in your sins,”

The true gospel:
Ephesians 2:8-10 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

1Timothy 1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

so if say whoever wants to see satan should look at drjellyjoe who claims to be white,so it means all whites are satan dumb folks.

But he points out his appearance and not his sins or character. The reason for him being like Satan is that "He was a black man with long flowing hair, inflamed eyes, and dark ruddy cheeks".

Hmmm, while we are speaking of race, and just out of interest, I wonder if you are aware that Muhammad was white?

In Sahih Al Bukhary vol. 1 no. 63, While we were sitting with the Prophet in the mosque, a man came riding on a camel. He made his camel kneel down in the mosque, tied its foreleg and then said: "Who amongst you is Muhammad?" At that time the Prophet was sitting amongst us (his companions) leaning on his arm. We replied, "This white man reclining on his arm." The man then addressed him, "O Son of 'Abdul Muttalib,"

In volume 2 Hadith no. 122 refers to Mohammed as a "white person" and in vol. 2 Hadith no. 141 we are told that when Mohammed raised his arms, "the whiteness of his armpits became visible."

Volume 1, Book 8, Number 367: "He uncovered his thigh and I saw the whiteness of the thigh of the Prophet."

So mohammed was a racist also?

He wasn't satisfied with being a pae*******le and instigator of violence.

Thank God for the path I've taken.

Jesus is the way

Hallelujah! I want to say that I am a white Christian man that wants to understand why black African Muslims would follow such a man that was responsible for the bondage of their people for centuries. I will be interested if any Muslims would give me an answer. I did not make this post to provoke Muslims or to insult them, but to get an answer and also to make them aware of these things.

Scripture is clear on the matter of race:

Acts 17:26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;

Galatians 3:26-29 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. (27) For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. (28) There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. (29) And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

If you read Acts 2 (chapter about Pentecost) you will see that the tongues is a real language and not gibberish.

Acts 2:6-8 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. (7) And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? (cool And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?

Ishaq 243 I heard the Apostle say: 'Whoever wants to see Satan should look at Nabtal!' He was a black man with long flowing hair, inflamed eyes, and dark ruddy cheeks.... Allah sent down concerning him: 'To those who annoy the Prophet there is a painful doom." [9:61] "Gabriel came to Muhammad and said, 'If a black man comes to you his heart is more gross than a donkey's.'

Sahih Bukhari 9:89:256 Allah's Apostle said, "You should listen to and obey, your ruler even if he was an Ethiopian (black) slave whose head looks like a raisin.“

Ishaq 450 It is your folly to fight the Apostle, for Allah's army is bound to disgrace you. We brought them to the pit. Hell was their meeting place. We collected them there, black slaves, men of no descent.

Ishaq 374 The black troops and slaves of the Meccans cried out and the Muslims replied, ‘Allah destroy your sight, you impious rascals.

"The Prophet said, ‘Let the negro slave of Dinar perish. And if he is pierced with a thorn, let him not find anyone to take it out for him.... If he [the black slave] asks for anything it shall not be granted, and if he needs intercession [to get into paradise], his intercession will be denied.'"

Sahih Muslim 3901 There came a slave and pledged allegiance to Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) on migration; he (the Holy Prophet) did not know that he was a slave. Then there came his master and demanded him back, whereupon Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) said: Sell him to me. And he bought him for two black slaves, and he did not afterwards take allegiance from anyone until he had asked him whether he was a slave (or a free man).

Qur'an [39.60] And on the day of resurrection you shall see those who lied against Allah; their faces shall be blackened. Is there not in hell an abode for the proud?

The following verses differ between the Warsh version (popular in Africa) and the Hafs versions (popular in Middle East) of the Quran: 7:57, 9:37, 2:259, 3:81, 6:96, 1:4, 2:140, 2:125, 3:146, 2:132, 91:15, 2:132, 3:133, 5:45, 2:139, 3:81, 2:259, 2:214, 2:9, 2:184 & 28:48.
