Had to dig out this old thread because I wanted to discuss Eto'o and did not want to start a new thread.
This guy would have won APOY award six consecutive times. In 2006, Eto'o was at his peak before injury knocked him out of the game, losing the award to Drogba. In 2007, even with injury he returned 11 league goals for Barca, equalling what fully-fit-all-season Yak, Nigeria's highest scorer, returned in a whole season. In 2007/2008 season, even with injury he still scored 16 league goals. He lost the 2007 award to Kanoute. The guy just returned from injury and has taken his place back in the top spot of La Liga scorers chart, with 16 goals, shaming those who used to say 'no Ronnie, no Eto'o".
I believe without injury, this guy would still be winning APOY award till now. He is not in contention for 2008 CAF APOY, obviously due to the fact that the nomination was made around November when the season just started, but despite that he came 7th in WPOY result that just came out yesternight, with Adebayor, the likely winner of the African award, coming 17th.
But again, Eto'o is likely to win the 2009 APOY award if he continues with this form, for the 4th time.
