It's about that time of the year whre the struggle for medicine puts the thread in an active mode.
First of all, welcome to another year of T.D.B, prayers and high expectation filled with inquisition.
This year is ur year.(to that medicine aspirant reading this) buh plss, this time...avoid the names of schools..hw big they seem.. If u really wanna get medicine this year.. Target a school with ur area being a catchment, be it federal or state uni (buh it should be accredited shaa*sips coke*) then hit the best score u can, stare at ur waec grades sternly and mk that final decision on what score to hit. ( I knw old Wise medical aspirants who already had one sitting still registered for waec this year.. If u did that, then thumbs up... Coz adamu adamu has ranout of policy.. He wount cha policy he came up with.

Now i know the journey to a medical school isn't easy.
I applied to ui last year i had a very nice grade but kinda low jamb score my screening score was around 73 but the cut-off point was 76.75.
I felt so devasted and frustrated when the admission list was released and i wasn't admitted..
I almost lost my passion.
But Thank God.

To the new aspirant please prepare well for both your jamb and waec exams..since it's the criteria for admissions..

If you are planning to come back to medicine after studying a first degree then you must mind the kind of people you discuss this decision with. Some people will make you appear stupid. Some will tell you stuffs that will make it appear that all you want is just to be called 'Doc.'. Some will make you feel you just wasted time and resources studying your first degree. Always avoid such people by all means. You will know them from their previous disposition or from what they say the first time they hear about this plan of yours. From then on, do everything within your means to make sure your paths don't cross again until you are done with your studies or well into it. Especially if you know you can't handle such poisonous words. This might even require you cutting off some friendships. Words are powerful and they carry spirits.

Nonetheless, you will always find solace and encouragement in the knowing that your motivation to go into medicine after a first degree or while already studying a course is genuine and that medicine is a necessary career path for you. With this deeply seated conviction/assurance you will ever be on the move even if you are the only one in the world taking such step. But you aren't. Know that countless others are taking such steps too but you might not see one around you. You can find some strength in that too.

Hi guys I was able to complete the application for my cousin a while ago after making payment, just make sure you have a copy of your scanned passport handy less than 50kb, scanned signature and scanned copy of WAEC result printout, that was all.

with ur printout ... What do u think d screening will be like and also were u given any date for the screening ??

AN EVALUATION OF UI POST UTME MODEL

It is the vision of the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, to be a world-class University for academic excellence geared towards meeting societal needs. To realize this vision, it means it must become more innovative and dynamic in the ways it interprets its vision and relates to its environment. Essentially, in the strategic direction of the University, it must embrace, introduce and enforce and sustain shifts in many aspects of its orientation, organization, academic programmes, operational methods as well as behaviour of stakeholders including leadership, management at all levels, admission of prospective students, among others.

Having borne the above in mind and in the report of the UI Vision for the 21st Century Committee which one had the privilege of serving as Secretary under the Chairmanship of Professor Kayode Adesogan now retired, it was recommended, among others, that “while the University will continue to recognize results from JAMB, WAEC and other examining bodies, the University will, in addition to these, conducts its own screening procedure for all candidates who wish to come to UI to study. This will involve physically scrutinizing originals of their certificates, letters of attestation to their characters from their last two institutions and letters (written in their own handwriting) affirming that they have not had disciplinary cases in their former institutions. In addition to these, there will be an examination for each candidate which may be written or oral.”

Many Universities accepted this verdict. The UI Model which took off in 2005 ensure that the University does not admit more students than it can cope with taking into consideration the number of available staff and facilities on ground.

Initially, the UI Post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination otherwise known as Post-UTME for undergraduate admissions involved a 60:40 graded combination of relevant subjects’ grades in ‘O’ Level results and cumulative score obtained from UME as the basis for inviting prospective candidates. The candidates were selected, using Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB)’s criteria of Merit, Locality and Educationally Less Disadvantaged States (ELDS), for the oral-UME exercise. Final selection of candidates for provisional admission was based on their performance at the post-UME exercise. A steady decline in withdrawal (from the University) was observed in 2004/05, 2005/06, 2007/08, 2008/09, 2009/10 academic sessions with a slight increase in 2010/2011 academic session.

Following Senate’s directive, a review of the “UI Model” led to the approval of ‘Short and Long term interventions’. This was to ensure the relevance/improvement of the “Model” and increasing access to a larger number of prospective candidates. The Short term intervention led to the standardization of the questions used for the oral interactive exercise (2010/2011 exercise). The long-term was implemented during the 2011/2012 exercise. The number of candidates (with JAMB score of 200 & above) who chose the University of Ibadan as their 1st and/or 2nd choice Most Preferred Institution were 25,513 and 21,333 respectively while the list for Direct Entry Admission had 2, 697 candidates.

The Senate’s approved modality was used for the 2011/2012 admissions exercise. This was unique since the “O’Level results and UTME score” were rated equally (that is, 50:50), unlike 60:40 used in previous exercises, and more candidates (200% of approved 1st choice quota) were invited for the first-choice post-UTME exercise, using the usual JAMB criteria of Merit, Locality and ELDS. The extra 100% selected, were candidates missed out on “Locality” but with weighted scores not below the “locality cut-off point”. Unfortunately, the projected number of 3,983 could not be realized as only 2,912 candidates met the criteria above were invited for the first choice, on 29 August, 2011 Post-UTME.

don’t want to make a policy and then tomorrow, the
government comes up with something else,” Prof.
Olayinka said as he mentioned that the University
authorities were monitoring the moves of the new
Registrar of Joint Admission and Matriculation Board
(JAMB) whether he would reverse the decision of his
predecessor.
The UI VC decried the policy of JAMB which stopped
universities from conducting Post – Unified Tertiary
Matriculation Examination (Post UTME) which he said
had over the years improved the quality of students
being admitted into the University.
“May be up to 2003 or 2004, quite a large army of
students were being asked to withdraw at the end of
(their) first year on account of poor academic
performance. We have statistics to back it up and it
was a national problem,” Prof. Olayinka said.
But with the conduct of Post UTME, the University had
continued to admit the best students Nigerian
secondary schools had got to produce as he said “we
recorded our best (result) last year when 1.9 percent
(of matriculants) were asked to withdraw”.
On the next of students to be admitted, the Vice
Chancellor said, “left to me, they should not be more
than 3, 500” as he consider primarily hostel
accommodation in the University should could not
cater for more than 8, 300 students including post
graduates and medical students at Alexander Brown
Hall, UCH.

In lieu of this development, I deem it imperative to encourage you further to step up your efforts towards preparation for whichever mode of admission exercise will be adopted by University of Ibadan but like I have always said 'University of Ibadan will be hell bent on going back to the era of Screening to satisfy students for admission'. Post UTME seem a more likely option. But never worry, we are trying our best to ensure that we get you richly informed as events unfold.

hope this information is tru and I pray that ui conduct post UTme Ooo... Because the amount to b admitted is very small.. Out of 30k plus only 3.5k will b admitted, very competitive ...

Straight to the point. In all my years of med school, I must say this is the only place I've both been appreciated for my efforts into ensuring we all succeed. One would assume that the medical students in my school would be primary beneficiaries, but that's story for another day.

Some weeks ago, I discovered some textbooks in Internal Medicine and Surgery that will certainly make your journey in Clinicals very easy. They're very straight to the point and contain relevant details that will be required of you. This would be the only place I will give those books to anyone.
