WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — U.S. F-22 stealth fighter jets arrived in South Korea on Sunday for exercises as part of an effort to demonstrate advanced military capabilities, seeking to deter provocations from North Korea, according to reports. The move come after North Korea warned South Korea earlier in the weekend that the Korean peninsula had entered a “state of war,” according to an Associated Press report. Pyongyang threatened to shut down a border factory that is a symbol of North and South Korean cooperation, according to the report. How far did U.S. B-2 stealth bombers travel for a practice run over South Korea? Why is North Korea threatening missile strikes against U.S. cities like Austin, Texas? Orol, MarketWatch Follow 969 followers WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — U.S. The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday that the arrival of the stealth jets came after previous examples of U.S. air power that included B-52 bombers and B-2 stealth bombers. The F-22 steal jets are normally stationed in Japan at Kadena air force base but flew to a South Korean base for continuing military exercises. Stealth aircraft more easily evade radar tracking. North and South Korea have technically remained at war for 60 years after the Korean War of 1950 to 1953 finished with an armistice rather than peace treaty. The Wall Street Journal reported that White House and defense officials said they expected more threats from Pyongyang. The report cited a senior administration official who said that while the White House does take North Korean threats seriously the “rhetoric” does follow a pattern that “we have seen for decades.” source http://www.marketwatch.com/story/us-flexes-muscle-after-n-korea-provocation-2013-03-31?siteid=rss&rss=1

I have watched with patient annoyance, I have listen with patient distress, to the sights and sounds of our dear actress turn singer Tonto Dikeh. Like many others, I chose not to talk about her but I was forced to know how wrong I was for keeping silent by the words of Alibaba and OJB, two eminent personalities that means a lot to the entertainment industry. Alibaba once tweeted "Playing a song of an artiste that you know is not good enough is no encouragement you are spoiling the market", I don't know what he had in mind. In an online interview with OJB by the crew of Information Nigeria, he said. Foremost, I must say I admire Tonto Dikeh's confidence and doggedness, but to what avail is it when used in a wrong way. A cutlass is a good tool in the hand of a farmer, without which we cannot get food to it, but that same cutlass can kill! Despite her confidence there should be substance. Is music so hard to learn that she cannot even get average in a year? Tonto Dikeh has a well publicised relationship with one of Africa's best music producers, Don Jazzy. She once took to twitter to say she was deflowered by Don Jazzy and he replied saying "Me wey I still be V". I don't care about what they had together, my point is this, she enjoys a very good relationship with Don Jazzy, making it easy for her to have approached Don Jazzy if she truly wanted to make some good music. My opinion is this, it is either Don Jazzy already told her she cannot sing or she personally knows she can't and decides not to talk about it to Don Jazzy. Many upcoming artistes out there have seen their career rescinded due to annoying words from, DJs, Media personnel and the likes and yet they make music that are 10 times better than that of Tonto Dikeh. The only difference is that she was a star before she started singing making it is obvious that all we worship in the entertainment industry is money and fame not True talent and ability. If a lady with the world at her feet and the cream of the industry at her beck and call, comes up with a song as poor as "HI" (Auto tune on a false tone (falsetto), how woeful?) and we accepted it, While there are several up and coming acts out there that can make music has good as that of Wizkid (I have met a lot that are better) still roaming the streets. This makes me wonder if Nigerian music has a body in place to monitor the type of music produced and released to the market. I am not against Tonto Dikeh singing, I am against her singing Nonsense! If she can learn to sing well I'd be the first to clap for her once it is good music. Several individuals in several capacities have built Nigerian Entertainment Industry (especially the music sector) to this point of international recognition. Should we watch with folded arms as someone crumbles it recklessly? Is it true that we only work for money not passion in this industry? Will the labour of our heroes (and heroines) past go in vain. We have to stand up and support good music! True talent and a not just desire to be popular, a lust for fame! Let us remember that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere, Tonto Dikeh has to be stopped for the sake of the talented youths out there! The US military has deployed two nuclear-capable B2 stealth bombers over South Korea to conduct “deterrence” mission amid escalating tension in the Korean peninsula over North Korea’s threats of attacking its neighbor and the US. The two jets flew out of Whiteman Air Force base in Missouri and dropped dummy ordnance on targets in South Korea on Thursday and completed the 13000-mile round trip in a "single continuous mission," according to a press release by the US military. "The B-2 bomber is an important element of America's enduring and robust extended deterrence capability in the Asia-Pacific region," the US statement said. The deployment of the bombers will further inflame tensions in the region especially after infuriated North Korea threatened frequently over the past days to attack the US mainland, Hawaii and Guam as well as US military bases in South Korea and Japan. According to a Tuesday report by the Korean Central News Agency, Pyongyang has put its military on combat-ready status for possible strikes against the US. The latest threat came a day after the US and South Korea signed a military pact allowing the allies to respond even to low-level provocations from North Korea. “This allows both nations to jointly respond to the North's local provocations, with the South taking the lead and the US in support,” South Korea’s Defense Ministry spokesman, Kim Min-seok, said on Monday. The annual joint military maneuvers by the US and South Korea, which wrapped up on March 21, added fuel to fire in the region where UN Security Council’s sanctions on the North over its third and latest nuclear test in February had already angered Pyongyang. Following the sanctions, unanimously approved at the 15-member council, North Korea on March 8 scrapped its decades-old peace treaty with the southern neighbor and hours later threatened to launch a nuclear strike on the US. Snoop Dogg has revealed he has joined the Nation of Islam after appearing at the religious group's annual Saviours' Day event in Chicago. The rapper, who described himself as the "leader of the hip-hop community", told followers he would share what he learned with other musicians. He told reporters that he joined the group because he was "doing what's right and representing what's right". It preaches self-reliance for black people within an Islamic framework. At Sunday's event, the rapper sat on stage while Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan gave a speech. He said afterwards that listening to the speech from Mr Farrakhan was "about a mirror - it's about looking at yourself". He added: "We're doing a lot of wrongs among ourselves that need correcting." When asked if he had joined the movement he said: "I'm already in the Nation, that's why I'm here. "I'm an advocate for peace, I've been in the peace movement ever since I've been making music. "My whole thing is not about really trying to push my thing on you. "It's just about the way I live, and I live how I'm supposed to live as far as doing what's right and representing what's right - that's why I was here today." He would not say when he had joined the Nation of Islam. Other rappers previously involved with the movement include NWA star-turned- actor Ice Cube. source http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/7918383.stm |
