Politics / Attack On TVC: 250 Staff Out Of Work – TVC CEO, Hanlon by Dwallnet: 7:28am On Oct 30, 2020
Arsonist attack: Over 250 production staff out of work – TVC’s CEO Hanlon

Chief Executive Officer, CEO, Television Continental (TVC), Andrew Hanlon on Thursday said more than 250 production staff working in the building razed by arsonists, have been out of work since the incident occurred.

He spoke when Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his team, among which included the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr. Gboyega Soyannwo, and Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, paid condolence visit to management of the burnt station.

Hanlon took the governor round the main auditorium, which was the hub of the TV station’s operation. It was completely razed.

The auditorium housed three main studios, three control rooms, three master control rooms and central transmission laboratory said to have been equipped with the modern communication gadgets worth millions of dollars.

All left in the building were charred materials.

The TV station boss also added that over 500 direct employees of the station had been struggling to work in temporary accommodation put up by the company.

Hanlon said: “After the rioters invaded our premises and set the place on fire, some buildings in the premises survived. But the main transmission building is completely destroyed and it was the hub of our operations. The rioters cast fear and terror in the hearts of our employees when they broke in last week’s Wednesday morning.

“People’s hard work and huge investment that went down into the TV station were destroyed in a period of about an hour. The incident was really traumatising for all of us. The rioters left immense devastation. The entire interior of the building was destroyed. This is all that is left of our bubbling building, which was a centrepiece. Thankfully, no member of staff died in the incident.”

Hanlon said the immediate priority before the management of the TV station was to ensure that all direct employees were looked after, stressing that the means of livelihood of thousands of indirect workers attached to the brand had been threatened.

He said efforts were being taken to return TVC back to its full operations, promising that the station would bounce back stronger than it was.

The Governor was also shown a wreck of burnt vehicles belonging to the station and employees.

Politics / #lekki Shooting: Gov Sanwo-olu Says Soldiers Were Responsible [video] by Dwallnet: 8:01am On Oct 27, 2020
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, on Monday acknowledged that the Nigerian Army ordered the shooting of #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate.

The Next Edition had reported that soldiers, on October 20, shot at unarmed #EndSARS protesters demanding an end to police brutality in the country and good governance.

However, the Nigerian Army, in spite of the video evidence denied being involved in the shooting.

The leadership of the army insisted soldiers were never at the scene of the shooting claiming that the videos of the shooting were "photoshopped."

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) also condemned three broadcast stations, Arise News Television, Africa Independent Television and Channels Television for airing the video clip showing soldiers shooting at the protesters and went ahead to impose a N3m fine on each station.

But, in an interview with CNN on Monday, Sanwo-Olu said footage available to him shows that the Nigerian Army ordered the shooting.

He said: “From the footage that we could see, it seems to be that men in military uniform, which should be Nigerians Army ordered the shooting."

A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile, on Monday, quoted the governor as saying: “We will be committed to a full investigation of what happened and people would be held accountable. They certainly would be held accountable. We would do everything possible to ensure that they are held accountable.

“People have claimed that their friends and family members have been killed. So, this Judicial Panel of Enquiry is meant to bring all of these stories to accountability; where we can make restitution, where families can prove and identify officers that were responsible for this.

“I am not the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces; I am Governor of a State. The report would be out and we would channel the report to all the relevant authorities in the state to ensure that every one that is found culpable is accountable for the act.”

The Governor expressed confidence that there would be a positive change as a result of what had happened in the past few weeks with protests in different parts of Nigeria by the youths.

"I genuinely believe there would be change for two reasons. One, what has happened, especially in Lagos is extremely unimaginable. Number two is that it was a clarion call for all of us in government, especially understanding and realising what the youths truly want us to be doing. So, it hit all of us like a thunderbolt and it was just a wake-up call,” he stated.
