Bodybuilding superstar Dallas McCarver -- aka "Big Country" -- has died after apparently choking on food at his Florida home, TMZ Sports has learned. We spoke with McCarver's girlfriend, WWE superstar Dana Brooke, who says the 26-year-old was found unconscious just after midnight Tuesday morning by a friend at his home shortly after they spoke on the phone. McCarver was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Law enforcement sources tell TMZ Sports there appears to be no signs of foul play. Brooke says McCarver told her he was about to make dinner and the last thing he said to her was, "I love you. Goodbye." Brooke says the cause of death is believed to be choking on food ... and it does not appear McCarver was trying to harm himself. McCarver had worked out earlier in the day on Monday and seemed to be doing just fine ... no signs of a medical problem while hitting a chest press with 160 lbs dumbbells. McCarver burst on to the bodybuilding circuit when he was 21 and immediately began winning big competitions. He was a 6'1", 300-lb beast who was crazy strong in the weight room. Just last year, McCarver placed 8th in the 2016 Mr. Olympia competition. McCarver had a health scare back in March when he collapsed onstage at the 2017 Arnold Classic Australia ... but he appeared to be doing much better recently. Brooke tells us the message to McCarver's fans is to stay strong -- that's what he would want. R.I.P. Source: http://www.tmz.com/2017/08/22/dallas-mccarver-dies-bodybuilder-chokes-on-food/

When people say “Police is your friend” in this part of the world, certainly it means different things to different people. I have known this for a very long time, it’s more of a joke than a serious statement. Forgive me if I sound so personal, my sentiment for Nigerian Police is indefinite to be adequately described. In recent weeks I have read on one or two occasions where suspects were said to have ‘disappeared’ from police custody without explanation. By implication such disappearance apparently would cause panic in areas where dwellers had openly celebrated the arrest of persons of criminal antecedents only to hear that the said suspect had faded away from police custody. It might interest you to read the ordeal of one Mr. Philips (Not real name), who was driving along an expressway, location I cannot say precisely because the story was narrated to me too. Normally it wasn’t his way to pick passengers, in fact he prefers to travel alone in his vehicle. But on this occasion he saw a police officer who looked stranded. He compassionately had to give him a ride since they were heading same direction. Alas, he noticed that the Officer was so uncomfortable throughout the trip. Soon the Officer arrived at his destination and had to alight from the vehicle. He was unaware that the Officer left a firearm in the vehicle. Mr. Philips continued his trip, unfortunately he had a problem with one of the tires. He had a stopover so that he could address the issue. Just when he was on the repairs to his dismay, He abruptly saw a 9mm pistol under the passenger sit. Although he was shocked but he summoned courage to throw the gun away to the nearby bush. He did not drive too long he drove by a police check-point; he was stopped by the officers on duty. He was asked to come down and the Police began thorough searching of the vehicle. The whole event was synonymous to a nightmare. The searching went for a period almost an hour and they found nothing. The man was then released. Just when he was released he looked through the rear mirror and noticed a great argument arose among them. Obviously it was a set-up only that it was a failed attempt. ![]() |

I have heard several narratives how people suffered a horrendous fate of a remarkable dimension. In another development, some others were arrested or at worse jailed only for an offence they never committed. More often than none, many people have found themselves on a regrettable circumstance under the auspices of having a semblance of someone else. The degree of semblance expressed may or may not be verifiable. Unlike the developed world, several scientific methods are used to establish facts when investigation is being made. Unfortunately, the 'poor' are the most vulnerable ones suffering this fate in the less developed world of ours. A particular incident happened in my school during my undergraduate days. A lady was said to have identified a suspect whom she claimed was one of the three guys who gang-rape her. She claimed that the identified guy has a resemblance of one of the rapist. The unfortunate part of the story was that the incident was reportedly took place in a very lonely road at about 8.05 pm on one fateful Friday night. Funny enough, a week later she claimed that it was luck on her side to have found the acclaimed person in the school premises. I would not go into the details of the story. Thanks to school management that swiftly intervened in the matter. The young man was released from the Cadet corps mini-cell where he was subjected to pain and torture in the name of interrogation. Reliably, the guy was found not guilty. He was released after several days of detention albeit without any compensation. Maybe only rhetoric of “sorry”. Based on these rather unfortunate and heart-breaking stories, I already have a bias when someone walk up to me and say “you have a resemblance of a person I know”. That minute, series of questions would skip through my mind could it be for a good reason? Or a bad one. More so the antecedent of the character in question is unknown therefore it’s very important to be careful taking such compliments or better still gleefully dissociate from such conversation in an indifferent manner. My thought is that; I haven’t seen a person who had meaningfully benefited or whose life got transformed for good in the name of having a semblance for someone he probably came across or living elsewhere rather than an aftermath of regrets and turmoil. I am not particularly referring to cases where people themselves draw out their semblance with maybe a celebrity or a legendary figure. However, my judgement might just be might be wrong based on the foregoing; this is because I already confessed to my bias. What are your thoughts or experiences? |
Congratulations! |

From a reliable source I understand the former VC recruited the affected staff. They were said to be placed on a temporary appointment then. Apparently by implication on the expiry of the terms of engagement the university management under a new leadership had taken a decision to let the staff go. |
