The veteran actor who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria, said Nollywood is capable of contributing to Nigeria’s economic development effectively if the industry is given all the necessary support it requires by government. He also charged the government to pay attention to the issue of piracy bedeviling the industry, adding that the activities of pirates has seriously affected the film industry. He said: “I will want the three tiers of government to put their viewfinders toward Nollywood since they have recognised that Nollywood helps in the per capita income of the country. “I feel that they are not paying enough attention to the movie industry. So, let them give us policies that will make this industry stand and defend this country. “I feel the movie industry is thriving and we are contributing our quota to the economic advancement of the country which makes me very, very happy. “Since we are not relegated to the background, we will continue to strive harder in the development of the country in general. FOLLOWING the successful completion of the third edition of the Pearl Look Modelling competition in April, due to popular demand, TOKAD International, organisers of the event, are set to hold another competition next month. Pearl Look 2015 Beauty Pageant is coming closely on the heels of its modelling counterpart as revealed by the CEO of TOKAD, Mr Ayodeji Olatokunbo, at a recent media briefing in Lagos. He explained that the pageant is a response to the constant feeds from their fans online. He said: “Ever since we started the Pearl Look competition, our Facebook fan page alone has risen to about 35, 000 and we normally get requests from female fans asking us to organise a pageant that will showcase the real African woman, as opposed to Western standards, to showcase the beauty of the Nigerian woman. To satisfy our fans and make them happy we have come up with the beauty pageant.” “Having successfully organised the runway modelling competitions, we want to satisfy our fans who believe we can do it. And since we know we can do it, we are ready to go,” he declared. Unlike other pageants where contestants always strut the runway in their own clothes and accessories, Olatokunbo also explained that Pearl Look is giving young and upcoming designers the opportunity to come and exhibit their talents to the world as they would be clothing the finalists in the different segments of the competition. “We are creating a platform for young designers such as WoWo Couture, Adunni Oge, Conae Insignia and a few others to dress up the finalists in their swimwear, casual, wedding and evening wear designs,” he disclosed. After a rigorous audition in Lagos and Enugu, 47 contestants between the ages of 18 to 26 have been selected to enter the boot camp on September 7, in order to assess and groom them for the task ahead, after which 25 finalists would emerge for the September 13 grand finale. Interestingly, this pageant has been designed for Nigerian women of different shapes and sizes who are confident about their beauty and talent. The winner of Pearl Look 2015 Beauty Pageant will win an all-expense paid trip to Europe on tour of Paris Frankfurt, Milan and Amsterdam; 4,000(USD) and more prizes. Runners-up will also go home with consolation prizes. The event will hold at the Havillah House of Events, Victoria Island from 4:00pm prompt. http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/2015/08/pearl-look-beauty-pageant-coming-september-13/#
