ProblemChild1: Soludo is really trying. I just came back from Nnewi to Awka yesterday and Nnewi is now turning to mega city. What we need now is a well planned CBD in the Capital City. And Anambra will be competing with Lagos. I concur with you, Nnewi is getting the attention it needs. The effect of governance doggedly led by governor soludo is being felt in the city. This is the first of its kind from close to 2 decades past. |

Seriously do I have to be the one to remind you that VAT is already paid at the distribution stage? Distributors, retailers, and customers buy the product with VAT included, and each stage in the supply chain charges VAT until it reaches the final consumer which they don't have to remit again." |

Politics › Re: Why VAT And Taxes Don’t Define Development! by EasternActivist: 8:18pm On Jan 29, 2025 |
Raf4: Not always. If a product is manufactured in Ibadan and was sold to their distributor in Benin, the goods will be invoiced to distributor with VAT (here, the manufacturer will deduct the VAT on material Input from the VAT on sales to the distributor, the difference will be remitted to the FIRS, oyo state office) To the distributor in Benin, the VAT on goods bought from the manufacturer will become input VAT. He sells to the retailers or consumers with VAT, which now is his own output VAT. He will deduct the input VAT from his own output VAT and the difference will be remitted to FIRS, Edo state office) Note that VAT is not remitted or paid to the purse of any state government, but only to the federal government thru FIRS. Companies file tax remittance from their headquarters. Go and ask |
Politics › Re: Why VAT And Taxes Don’t Define Development! by EasternActivist: 12:40pm On Jan 29, 2025 |
Raf4: Mr man, stop arguing blindly. Consumption doesn't mean when you munch okpa in your mouth only. Let me school you a bit:
As a manufacturer, all the raw materials, w-I-p, spare parts and other components you bought from the suppliers are paid with VAT element (this is called input VAT). When you used any of these for production purposes, it is consumed already. Those goods you produced are sold to your customers with VAT element (this is called output VAT). At the end of the month, the calculated VAT input (raw materials, WIP, components) you consumed on production is deducted from the VAT out on finished goods sold to your customers. The difference (when VAT output is higher than VAT input) is what you remitt to the FIRS (FGN) The more your Consumption both at raw mater or Finished goods stages, the more yor VAT payable.
There is no organisation that is involved in legal manufacturing/production/value addition that will not register with CAC and other regulatory bodies. There is no way a registered company can evade VAT. You must file your annual returns. Tax authorities can trace all your inputs (RM, WIP, spare parts, equipment etc either imported or local) to your business without even engaging you. A single tax audit of your suppliers or customers can reveal this.
Don't think that anybody is manufacturing in the SE and evades VAT. It is either they engaged in VAT exempt items (eg pharmaceutical, LPG/CNG gas, medical services, baby products, sanitary wares, basic food items, educational materials etc) and all these are more pronounced in the SW than SE OR you are talking about those concocting adulterated hennessy, champagne, drụgs etc inside latrins in onitsha, aba etc. Then is it not the headquarters where the company is domiciled and taxed in a state is the assumed point of consumption? |

GBTYO: Your SE only comes alive for 2 weeks every year during the Christmas holidays.
The low vat earnings from the SE expose low consumption levels and a lack of commercial activities.
Low tax earnings is because there is hardly any real formal sector . Your business model is petty trade that falls under the disorganised and grey sector of the economy.
Solodu has been bemoaning his inability to effectively tax businesses in his state and even declared that majority of what the state gets as revenue is from the federal purse and if he had to share to every man, woman and child in Anambra as it comes every month, it won't amount to more than #1,500 per head.
Real development is driven by taxes that are generated from a healthy commercial and economic base.
You have none of this and that's why even the north you were labelling parasites generate more from their own economic activities than your entire region.
There's nothing in the SE and your net negative migration proves this Why are you crying 😭 Leave it for us na 😂😂 Besides what have your state achieved more than south east. Brown roofs and skull mining business 😄😄 |

McLizbae: Nawa o... So truly Hamas still have and hold hostages from the the October 7 attack?
At some point, I have started believing that there are no more hostages, and that IDF may truly be on another mission...
So, in truth, Hamas held on to those hostages and kept wash as IDF destroyed Gaza and lifes singly for the sake of the hosdatge act!?
Man! I don't think the ceasefire is an enduring solution. It is just a cosmetic solution. I think IDF should continue to pound (regardless the collateral damages, which cannot be more than what already is) until there is no more Hamas.
Objectively speaking, there will only be lasting peace in that region if one is completely eliminated (Hamas or IDF), which ever have the might to smoke the other out.
On the contrary, I don't encourage war or destruction in any form. But if the ongoing war and destruction in that region can be sustained to the extent that will guarantee a long lasting peace afterwards, so be it.
The operation meant to investigate and fish out the terrorists that mastermind Ed and participated in that attack was lunched separately (in collaboration with some other countries including some Arab countries), and those does not involve the invasion of Gaza.
The attack on Gaza was avoidable. It was clearly stated by IDF before the invasion of Gaza, the the sole reason is to free the hostages. Hamaz could have stopped that invasion by releasing the hostages...
Hamas have been unbelievable recalcitrant. That has sustained the war in Gaza. The question is, why do Hamas want to stop the war and the invasion of Gaza now? In my opinion, it is to prepare for another war. I don't think that should be allowed. Well I think the IDF is likely aware of these complexities and is working to achieve its goals of finishing off hamas without compromising the hostages' welfare. |

It is called elitism that the well-heeled use to avoid prosecution and punishment for their wrongdoing. Most truly believe they are above the law.
If not how can this guy, who wanted to be President of Nigeria, speak this ignorantly, offensively and ridiculously? Can he bring back kids now dead because of human negligence?
What has hunger got to do with negligence that led to the death if 30 kids? A grave misconduct that is 💯% going to lead to prosecution and jail in any sane nation?
Honestly, many of those parading themselves as leaders in Nigeria are clowns with nothing to offer. What nonsense negligence How many of them where invited or that the organizers know of their coming... So what nonsense negligence? For an act of charity and goodwill?
