Mr. Fejiro Oliver, a popular Nigerian investigative journalist, has debunked the recent claim by former militant leader, HRH Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, that Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL), chaired and managed respectively by the Olu of Warri and Dr. Osahon Okunbo, receives N2.7 trillion annually for pipeline surveillance.

Oliver, who is currently based in the United States, boasted that he personally went through the documents of the pipeline surveillance contracts and was shocked at the false figure being circulated online.

According to him, "PINL annual contract for pipeline surveillance is N250 billion. You read it right. So when did N250 billion turn to N2.7 trillion?.”

The journalist who made the disclosure via a Facebook post on Thursday stated that while Asari has the right to agitate for a contract, his target should not be a young Niger Delta entrepreneur — Dr. Osahon Okunbo.

In his words: "At least now, Asari Dokubo knows the real amount like he knew from me that Tantita is getting paid N2.1 trillion annually for pipeline surveillance. Now, between N2.1 trillion and N250 billion, where should Asari be looking to take the contract?”

The US-based investigative journalist added that Asari previously thought the contract was N48 billion and did not bother, but after his own social media campaign regarding pipeline surveillance contracts, Asari suddenly realised the value and is now targeting the one handled by Dr. Osahon.

He maintained that PINL has a massive record of initiating Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities that have benefitted several citizens and communities across Nigeria.

He noted that PINL spends the alleged N210 billion “for surveillance, CSR, paying of ex-militants, payment of community leaders, monthly stakeholders engagements in the whole Niger Delta even in states they don't cover.”

Oliver further revealed that PINL has built schools, placed over 5,000 persons on scholarships, built health centres, pays hospital bills for delivering mothers because no woman should die giving birth, and runs dedicated empowerment skills.

The seasoned journalist pointed out that he defends businesses owned by young men in their 20s to 40s as long as they are genuine, adding that nothing pains him more than seeing an older man try to drag down a younger man doing well.

He said: "For a young boy that the father died and left billions of assets for and has successfully managed it without any of them folding up, young people of my generation should stand by him... Go to Wells Carlton Hotel in Abuja and it's better than how his father left it for him.

"Nobody will take that Osahon and PINL N250 billion contract. Full stop. If it's one of those political thieves now in APC that has it, we can allow the N2.7 trillion lies to stand... but not a young hustling guy."

On the issue of ethnicity, Mr. Oliver alleged that out of three corridors, two (Western and Central) are being handled by Tantita and Maton Engineering from the Ijaw Nation, which Asari's domain is part of.

"If the contract must go, then everyone of them should go back to Nigerian Navy which has always been my stand anyway. But to single out PINL because Olu of Warri is involved is witchcraft," he added.
