Politics / Edo Govt Declares Friday Half-day In Honour Of Anenih by Ebenledion: 12:57am On Nov 30, 2018
The Edo State Government has declared Friday, November 30, a half-day of work in the state, in honour of late elder statesman, Chief Tony Anenih.

In a statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, the state government said the declaration is in line with the state burial, with which the state government is honouring the late national icon.

According to him, "The State Government has declared Friday, November 30, a half-day of work, so that workers in the state can pay their last respects to the icon. We are having a state burial and this serves as one of the gestures extended by the government in honour of Anenih, his legacy and contribution to development of the state."

Late Anenih, who was a former Minister of Works and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), died at the age of 85 years on October 28.

Politics / Obaseki Walks BEDC MD Out Of His Office For Throwing State Into Darkness + Video by Ebenledion: 6:47pm On Nov 27, 2018
…tells House of Reps that Edo doesn’t want a ‘failed, unserious’ DISCO

There was mild drama at the office of the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, on Tuesday, as the governor walked the Managing Director (MD) of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), Mrs. Funke Osibodu, out of his office for failing to meet obligations to electricity consumers in Edo and throwing the state into darkness for weeks.

This happened when the governor received members of the Federal House of Representatives Committee on Power led by Hon. Daniel Asuquo, who were in Government House, on a courtesy visit.

The governor was surprised to see the BEDC boss, whose name was not on the list of expected guests to Government House, but embedded herself in the National Assembly delegation, to gain access to the governor, who has been in darkness alongside millions of Edo State residents, for weeks.

Speaking to the delegation after Mrs. Osibodu had left the gathering, the governor said BEDC has continued to fail in collaborating with the state government to provide stable electricity in the state, instead the company has posed as an obstacle to meeting the goal.

"BEDC has been an obstacle all the way. They will not provide electricity and will not allow you to get alternative sources of power. The state will not allow it,” the governor said.

According to him, “As Governor of Edo State, we have lost confidence in BEDC. We don’t want them here. We are in darkness. Let us remain in darkness until we find people who are capable of delivering electricity. This is our position.”

The governor said despite the fact that the state generates about 600 to 700 megawatts of electricity, the people are still in darkness, wondering how he is expected to explain the irony to the people, who are well aware that they produce a substantial amount of electricity in the country.

He noted that BEDC has failed to recognise that they have to be patriotic and responsible to the state and the country but instead they have been noncommittal about the issue of power distribution.

"To assist, we set up electricity committee across the local government areas chaired by the Deputy Governor of the state, Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu, with BEDC as member to understand the challenge. But BEDC frustrated our resolve to finding a lasting solution to the issue of providing electricity to our people.”

Earlier, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Power, Hon. Daniel Asuquo, said they were in the state for an oversight function on the activities of BEDC and other players in the electricity value chain.

He said Edo State consumes half of daily power supply under the BEDC, noting that the state has the highest number of consumers on the network, which makes it critical to engage with the governor and people of the state on the level of service delivery by players in the value chain.

"We are here to see how to intervene to ensure that you deliver on your electioneering promises to the people of Edo State as you are answerable to them," Hon. Asuquo said.

I guess fatigue eventually caught up with him. He's only human.

Politics / Baby Freeman: Hit By Cruel Fate, Saved By Providence by Ebenledion: 5:32pm On Apr 13, 2018
By CAJETAN MMUTA

His peasant parents have been labouring since last year to save him from a cancer infection in the stomach. They have spent the last dime to save the five-year old. But by an act of fate or luck, he and his mum were knocked down by a governor’s convoy. Succour is what followed from the Edo State government. For Mrs. Mary Okoro, a 29-year-old petty trader, the responsibility of motherhood and care for her family has been one of turbulence and somewhat burdensome. But life and living must go on as she looks up to her creator for succour and survival, especially, about what each day has in stock for her and family, including her husband, who is an artisan. The Okoro family hail from Ihite Uboma in Imo State. Mrs. Okoro had kept on the faith with resolve to hawk moi-moi within the available market in the ancient capital town of Benin City until late last year when her five-year-old son, Master Freeman, Kindergarten pupil at Saint Aunty Alice Group of Schools at Upper Sakponba road in the Edo State capital, suddenly took ill.

The music of joy and happiness of a mother seemed to have stopped for her and the word was all struggles for her. Freeman had to the surprise of the family suddenly expressed low appetite and reluctance to eat but complained of stomach pains.

Both couple took turns to visit different hospitals and native medicine centres for consultations to secure quick cure or treatment.
Coincidentally, relief could not come easily even as medical diagnosis from native medicine declared the little boy’s sickness as that of Ude or Ama Afor. While local treatments failed, much money went down the drains and the family remained resolute to save their child.

They later approached the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) where Freeman was diagnosed of suffering from the cancer of the stomach. The sickness seriously affected his kidney, which later led to the removal of one of his kidneys on August 8, 2017.
The ugly situation compelled the mother and her child to be regular visitors to the teaching hospital for weekly chemotherapy treatment.
It was therefore inexplicable and unexplainable how much the family can go at saving their child while in the throes of the strange sickness even with meagre income and the biting economic hardship to sustain the entire family.

But worse still as fate would have it, the family was yet to come out of its predicament when again the unexpected happened on March 14, this year. It was a tale full of pity, sadness and nostalgia. Mrs. Okoro and her little boy had visited the UBTH for the child’s routine weekly medical check-up by doctors and nurses and were going home when they got involved in an accident in front of the hospital gate.

Shocking as the incident was, both mother and child escaped alive by whiskers in what one could better describe as God’s miraculous and mysterious work. Though, Mrs Okoro broke her arms and sustained deep bruises as she clutched her sick baby while crossing the road when the multiple crashes which also involved the press crew bus of the State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, as it headed towards the Government House, Benin occurred. The governor and his convoy were returning from an official outing in the state when the mishap happened due to break failure, which forced the driver of the bus to ram into other vehicles.

Anxiety had heightened in government quarters and various wards as both the mother and child, including some journalists got involved in a crash.

The incident occurred at the Ugbowo university community on the busy Benin-Ore-Lagos road in the state capital.

The injured news crew of the governor and a medical doctor, as well as Mrs. Okoro and child, were quickly rushed to the UBTH for treatment while other sustained minor injuries.

Three vehicles, including the bus conveying journalists were badly damaged during the crash.

The pains of the Okoros were further compounded by the accident. Mrs. Okoro was unconscious at the scene even as her child went into coma also. As a child of destiny, Master Freeman was assisted to the hospital by a Good Samaritan. He lost three of his teeth to the incident.

Narrating her ordeal to New Telegraph while in her bed at the the female Orthopedic ward of the hospital, Mrs. Okoro reeled out her pains and how providence came her way and family through God and Governor Obaseki, who visited them and paid their hospital bills alongside others.

Mrs Mary Okoro said: “I am, 29 years. We left the UBTH and were going home; I was with my son, Master Freeman Okoro. We came for weekly clinic (Chemotherapy treatment) for my baby who is suffering from the cancer of the stomach. They removed one of his kidneys in August 8, 2017; so, we were at the hospital to take treatment. It was as we were going home, we passed the first lane of the dual carriage road, opposite the UBTH and were about to crossover to the second lane and were by the side when the governor’s convoy came with siren. We were there to cross and we were waiting for the last bus in the convoy to pass before we could cross when the accident happened.”

She explained that, “my son, I and a doctor were crossing the road. My son is five years old plus and has been suffering from the sickness since May last year when he was diagnosed of the sickness.” According to her: “We cooked beans on a particular Sunday and he ate the beans. Then, suddenly, his belly became tight and painful to him. We thought it was something like Ude and we started marking it with razor blade and other local medicines.

We later went to the Central Hospital, which asked us to carry out scan test at Saint Bridget hospital and give them. They referred us to the UBTH. Okoro added that, “we are from Ihite Uboma in Imo State. We have spent over N4million since the boy’s sickness started.

He is in KG 3, (Kindergarten) at Saint Aunty Alice at the Upper Sakponba road area. My husband is an artisan, who helps in mason work or bricklaying work. I hawk moi-moi before now. When asked what was running in her mind when the accident occurred, she said: “I was not happy that the accident happened because the way it happened, I thought I would have died by now but it was my baby’s case that pained me most. He fainted at the spot and defecated in his pant and trouser.

It was one man who quickly took him and rushed him to the accident and emergency unit of the UBTH after the incident. Even myself, I was unconscious. My son was speechless for some time that he could not answer me when I called him severally. I cried when the incident took place, especially for my baby that upon all the stress and all the money we had spent since last year; that is it how the whole thing would just end and he would leave us like that? I asked God whether this was how we were going to end up but I still felt for my son because I was still breathing except for my broken arms. My son lost three of his teeth to the accident but they pulled off two that were shaking.”

While expressing appreciation to Governor Obaseki for his timely intervention, which could be said to be a blessing in disguise, Mrs. Okoro said, “We feel happy when the governor came to see us. We thank him for his kindness towards us and for taking over the payment of my son’s hospital bills. God will bless him and give him long life.”

She noted that, “the accident was not really a blessing but it s God’s will for us. God sent the governor to be of help to my child. May God also give him more blessings.”

Okoro stated soberly however that, “Doctors asked us to continue with his Chemotherapy treatment because another cancer is growing out from his stomach.”

In his reaction, the Special Adviser on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, said: “A bus assigned to the Press Unit of the Edo State Government House was involved in an accident on its way from an official assignment.”

The governor during the visit and on learning of Freeman Okoro, was a cancer patient and had come for chemotherapy session at UBTH before the unfortunate incident, further pledged to take responsibility of his cancer treatment in addition to offsetting of the medical bills of his cousin, who had been held in the hospital for his inability to pay for his treatment.

Obaseki said: “I came to see the condition of the victims of the accident myself, just as we have promised on the day of the accident when the victims were admitted. The state government has taken full responsibility of their medical bills. We will also make sure we follow up with the full recovery of those who are still being treated for injuries from the accident.” Also, the Consultant General and Coordinator, Accident and Emergency Department, UBTH, Dr. Nnadi Nwashile, said, “The patients are in stable condition. Six persons in the bus were treated and discharged on the day of the accident.”

At the moment, little Freeman needs greater medical attention and care given his deteriorating health condition, especially, now that it has been established by the hospital authority that he suffers from cancer. Therefore, the family is, no doubt, troubled amid high expectations and prayers of all, as it battles to save the life, future and education of the ailing child.

Politics / Obaseki Visits Accident Victims, Clears Medical Bills by Ebenledion: 4:23pm On Mar 16, 2018
…takes responsibility of 5-year-old victim’s cancer treatment

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has visited and offset medical bills of persons who suffered various degrees of injuries, in a road accident involving a bus attached to the Governor’s Press Unit and two vehicles, in Ugbowo area of Benin City.

Some of the victims are admitted and receiving medical care at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Benin City.

Politics / Pdp’s Open Grazing Bill Premature – Obaseki’s Aide by Ebenledion: 5:22pm On Feb 20, 2018
The Edo State Government has described as premature, the Bill for a law to prohibit open rearing and grazing of livestock, sent to the Edo State House of Assembly by the Edo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Special Adviser to Governor Godwin Obaseki on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr Crusoe Osagie, commended the Edo PDP for heeding the counsel of the Edo State government to learn how to be a responsible opposition party that can contribute to the development of Edo State through well-researched policies and laws.

Osagie noted that while the new role of the Edo PDP is worth commending, the opposition party would require more schooling to fully appreciate that well-researched policies of the Obaseki-led government such as the ban on overnight grazing, the ban on armed herdsmen and the monitoring of herdsmen activities by the government and security personnel, cannot be changed when they are yielding positive results.

“It is interesting to see members of Edo PDP embrace our advice. However, their proposed bill for a law that will ban open grazing is a faulty start. Policies have clear timelines and set outcomes. Since February 8 when Governor Obaseki unveiled the new set of policies to end the clashes between herdsmen and farmers, there has not been any incident. This means that the policies show promise and no one changes a winning team. So on what basis is the Edo PDP proposing its bill?”

He maintained that while sending a bill to the House of Assembly is a civilised thing to do, rather than propagation of falsehood at a state-wide circus and making outrageous comments on issues of national security, the Edo PDP’s bill is impulsive.

“PDP should stop being overtly emotional about issues that require tact and research. They have started learning how to be responsible, but they need to learn more from our technocrat Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki,” Osagie said.

He added that the Edo PDP has over the years displayed its lack of capacity to solve the problems of the state and stressed that the opposition party has nothing to offer the state.

They sharply overtook the Venza unaware that a tipper was coming on the opposite lane at top speed. Luckily the tipper driver managed to avoid a head a collision with the Venza but still left it almost beyond repair.

Politics / Ambode’s Special Adviser, Deji Tinubu Slumps, Dies by Ebenledion: 5:31am On Jan 26, 2018
The Special Adviser to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on Sports, Mr Deji Tinubu, died suddenly this (Thursday) evening. He is the younger brother of Wale Tinubu, Oando CEO.

He slumped while taking part in football at the ongoing retreat/meeting organised by the Lagos State Government for members of its State Executive Council and top functionaries in Epe.

Deji Tinubu was immediately rushed to Epe General Hospital after he slumped. He was later confirmed dead at the hospital.

A sudden pall then suddenly descended on the retreat. No official of the Lagos State Government was ready to speak on Deji’s demise last night as they were all grief-striken.
Deji Tinubu was formerly Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Commission.

Football-loving Tinubu was recently removed as Chairman of the Sports Commission and appointed by Governor Ambode as his SA on Sports.

Politics / Council Polls: Edo Govt. Uncovers Plot To Disrupt Process, Cause Mayhem by Ebenledion: 3:58pm On Jan 23, 2018
The Edo State Government said it has uncovered a plot by some members of the opposition political party to disrupt the forthcoming local government elections in the state.

The government said reports and several checks with the relevant security agencies in the state, confirmed that “the plot has been perfected to cause unprecedented mayhem and a general sense of insecurity in Edo State to disrupt the forthcoming local council polls.”

The Special Adviser to Governor Godwin Obaseki on Media and Communications Strategy, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, said the plan also includes the hiring of militants from neighbouring Niger Delta states to instil fear in the electorates and stop them from exercising their franchise during the elections.

Osagie said “the recurring name in this irresponsible plot is the faint-hearted and dying Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), after failing abysmally to dissuade anyone at a press conference it organised recently in Benin City, where it threatened to go to court and restrain the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) from conducting the election.”

He explained that the PDP is scared of the failure that awaits the party at the polling booths and is inventing devilish means to disrupt the process.

He however assured that “the respective security agencies have been fully briefed and are on alert to intercept the would-be assailants and aggressors from carrying out their evil plans. The Edo State Government will not be intimidated by the shenanigans of the PDP and will ensure it carries out its constitutional role of ensuring the security of life and property and that the citizens perform their civic duties.”

The governor’s aide said the state government will deploy a mix of overt and covert strategies to secure all parts of the state before, during and after the exercise.

He urged all political parties in the state to behave as good sportsmen and put forward their best feet for the political contest.

“Free and fair elections are strange to the PDP. For them, it is either their fraudulent way of writing results in their bedrooms or no way. They know that never again will Edo people make the mistake of filing behind any PDP candidate in the state, that is why the dying party is plotting to scuttle the forthcoming council polls and they will surely fail,” Osagie said.

He called on Edo people to be calm and go about their lawful businesses assured that the Obaseki-led government is on top of the situation and will quell any sinister plots of the PDP and its cohorts before they are hatched.
Politics / Nehikhare Admits Illness, Still Denies Begging Governor Obaseki For Money by Ebenledion: 10:12pm On Jan 20, 2018
We have a popular Benin parable which says that when a thief admits stealing a few tubers of yam, be certain that he stole the missing bags of yam. (Oyi gha miugan kue, aghi ren we re ewa ere o domu)

The rattled image maker of the infamous Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has come out to say that Governor Godwin Obaseki offered to pay his medical bills when he took ill. This is against his earlier declaration that the story was a figment of the imagination of the APC.

But our insistence that he begs the Governor for money has made him admit that he fell ill at a time, though he still lies about being the one that asked the Governor for money to pay his medical bills. Nehikhare should be courageous enough to bare it all. Half truth is good, but telling it all will make him a real hero, though he stands to lose his job.

The world knows who to believe between a PDP spokesman who defends the activities of a bandit that parades itself as a political party and the APC.

Very soon, Nehikhare will tell it all.

Politics / Why We Decided To Join Obaseki’s New Revolution, By Agbonayinma, Iduoriyekemwen, by Ebenledion: 6:55pm On Jan 20, 2018
Member representing Egor/Ikpoba Okha Federal Constituency, Honourable Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma and former gubernatorial aspirant, Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), who at the weekend decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, have said that they took the decision because of the exceptional brilliance and finesse the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration is bringing to governance in the state.

The former PDP stalwarts, said that they decided to jump ship because the PDP refused to follow the rule of law.

Speaking at the APC Mega Rally held at the weekend at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, they agreed that the Edo State government under Governor Obaseki is not only working but is worthy of emulation by other governors across the country.

According to Hon. Agbonayinma, “We have decided to join the APC and Governor Obaseki because PDP has refused to follow the rule of law. We are also here because the government under the APC and Obaseki is working. To be part of the work to make Edo great. I and Hon Mathew tried our best to make PDP straight, but they refused.

“When a governor is working, you have no other option than to join him and not to oppose him.Governor Obaseki is truly working. Everyone, including a blind man can see the work the governor is doing across the state. So, why oppose someone who is working in the interest of the people. Other governors in Nigeria should emulate what Edo State governor is doing for the people.

"The governor is not a politician but a technocrat who has the interest of the people at heart. He believes in doing the right thing.”

For former PDP gubernatorial aspirant, Iduoriyekemwen, the move became necessary as they could not continue to oppose the progressive policies driven by Governor Obaseki who has brought change to governance and the state’s economy.

According to him, “I am here today, with all my followers who are sons and daughters, to be part of a great movement in Edo State. We decided to join the Obaseki’s team and the APC as we can no longer continue to oppose the good things across the state. We believe that this will make Edo State better, to make the state become the best, we all need to unite to support the governor who is interested in making the state work.”

“The governor does not need any political distraction. All Obaseki needs to achieve his good intentions for the state is the support of progressives in the state. So, we are here to support his quest to develop our state for the benefit of the masses,” he added.

He said one of the landmark achievements of the governor was restoring order in different parts of the state, which has transformed Benin City, adding “If you go through Ring Road, you will drive through easily, same with new Benin and Ekiosa. All the places we thought were impossible to clear, have been cleared today. The governor is making Edo State work and it is because of that we decided to join the governor and his team to make Edo great.”

Politics / Bomb Explosion, Death In Okpella: The Feared Descent Into Anarchy by Ebenledion: 6:11pm On Jan 20, 2018
By Crusoe Osagie

With the news of a bomb explosion in Okpella that claimed one life and injured another on Monday, January 15, 2018, and the growing anxiety in the area over their safety and security, it is now clear that the concern earlier expressed by the Edo State Government that it received intelligence report of a clandestine plot by a sponsored militia group to cause mayhem in the community, was no speculation after all.

The incident should shut the mouths of conspiracy theorists and arm chair critics who wasted no time in attacking Governor Godwin Obaseki’s directive that law and order be allowed to prevail in Okpella. Between Monday night and Thursday this week, newspapers, broadcast channels and various social media platforms have been awash with the news of the bomb explosion in Okpella. One account said the incident sent jitters down the spines of people in the communities, who took the news to their traditional ruler, His Royal Highness (HRH) Okuopellagbe of Okpella, Alhaji Andrew Dirisu, for onward transmission to the Governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki.

According to a report by a national newspaper of January 17, 2018, with the headline Bomb factory discovered in Edo, one killed in blast “A suspected bomb factory has been uncovered in Iddo, Okpella, in Estako East local government area of Edo State after one of the explosives exploded. One of the suspected bomb makers was killed in the explosion and one of the victim’s legs was chopped off by the blast.”

The report further said: “The building where the suspected bombs were manufactured is a three- bedroom apartment which the villagers said was occupied by some men from Kogi State. Eyewitnesses said they ran for safety when they heard the explosion on Monday evening.”

A source in the village said youths in the area mobilised and nabbed some occupants of the building. One of the occupants, who reportedly escaped with a car loaded with prepared explosives, arms and ammunitions, abandoned the vehicle along a bush path and fled. President of Iddo Youth Movement, Mohammad Mohammad, was quoted in the newspaper as saying: “We all came out when we heard the sound and informed the people that explosion killed somebody. When we got to the place one of the occupants we met immediately escaped in a vehicle.

“So, the youths gave him a hot chase shouting that he had killed somebody and he was subsequently arrested and taken to the Divisional Police Officer before his onward transfer to the area commander. “Wife of one of the suspects and her children were also taken into custody.

Empty cans and other explosive making materials littered the apartment when our correspondent visited the place on Tuesday.” Presenting the prevailing sense of fear in Okpella in the past few to Governor Obaseki on Tuesday in Benin City, the Okuokpellagbe of Okpella His Royal Highness Alhaji Andrew Dirisu, with chiefs from other clans in the area, lauded the governor’s advice that BUA International Limited should abide by the Stop Work Order issued by the Federal Government in the interest of peace in the community and the state.

The Okuokpellagbe said: “The visionary leadership style of your Excellency, exemplified by your consistent and swift responses to issues that threaten the peace, order and good governance of the state necessitated this brief, to once again put on record admiration for you and to also seek your intervention in related matters.

“There is no gain-saying the fact that your recent visit to my domain and the executive order thereof in relation to the impasse between BUA Group and Dangote Group of companies on the Obu limestone, Okpella, is an attestation to your administration’s resolve to ensure peace and order in all the nook and crannies of the state. Okpella kingdom being the host community of the aforementioned companies, completely associates with government’s position on the matter, hinged on peace, order and security.” In his response, Obaseki said he was worried about the events in Okpella, such as the reign of an armed group terrorising the community and that he has directed the commissioner of police and the Director of Department of State Services (DSS) in the state, to commence search for bombs and other weapons and dis-arm the militia group operating in the community. “We cannot pretend that things are fine. We must move arms out of private hands in that community and ensure peace returns to that domain.

Your Royal Highness, if not for the explosion that rocked the community where one person died, you would not have known that explosives of such nature were in private hands in your domain. In the last one year Okpella has recorded the highest rate of incidents in Edo State. I cannot sit down without taking action,” the governor said,” Obaseki said. Some people have inferred that the Okpella bomb facility might have been the handiwork of Boko Haram terrorist group. Yet, days after the explosion and unlike the Boko Haram sect, no comment has been issued by the sect. The question then is, if Boko Haram is not the owner of the bomb facility, then who owns it?

As we await the report of the investigation by the police, the Edo State Government condemns the resort to self help by any group or companies through the sponsorship of a militia group to fight its cause. Our position on the wisdom behind Obaseki’s decision has not changed. We maintain that the Governor is taking proactive steps to protect his people and prevent the state from becoming another killing field.
To cast aspersions on Obaseki for his proactive efforts to protect the lives of his people in Okpella is senseless to say the least. Governor Obaseki is resolute about fulfilling his obligation to protect Edo people and will not be swayed by the cacophony of voices, knowing that he is the one that will be blamed should there be mayhem in Okpella tomorrow.

Obaseki has resolved to ensure that this is not the fate of Edo people in Okpella or elsewhere in Edo State. What is required of all Edo people is their full support for the state government and not idle talk or a display of ignorance by the opposition political parties.

Politics / Dying PDP Further Degraded As Hon. Agbonayinma, Iduoriyekemwen Defect To APC by Ebenledion: 12:16pm On Jan 19, 2018
The dying days of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State are here at last as two major pillars of the party in the state, Hon Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayima, representing Ikpoba-Okha/ Egor Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and former gubernatorial aspirant of the PDP, Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) today at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.

The two progressives who resisted frantic efforts by members of the dying PDP to leave the ailing party, are bringing into the APC, their teeming followers across the state.

Their defection is a confirmation of the fact that PDP will not recover from its electoral wounds and misfortunes in Edo State which the party foisted on itself after squandering Edo people’s goodwill of over eight years as the ruling party.

PDP is down and sunk in Edo political waters and never to rise again. Never again will Edo people be led by a bandit like the PDP, renowned and very notorious for betraying trust, rationalising graft and looting our commonwealth.

Never again will a party that flourishes in lies and deceit like the PDP be allowed to hold sway in Edo State. The years of the PDP in Edo State were like the years the locust ate. Our public schools were in their worst state, roads were in dire straits and other sectors of the state were in distress due to corruption, instituted by the PDP.

Edo State has been rescued from the grip of the PDP and the state is well on its way to greatness again. Join the progressives. Let us Go further together.
