PoliticsBiafra: Show Evidence Of Your Project In Southeast – Omirhobo Challenges Gowon by Ebinpiawazuu(op): 5:31pm On Feb 26, 2024
A human rights lawyer, Malcolm Omirhobo, has challenged former Military Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, retired, to show evidence of any Federal Government project his government established in the South-Eastern part of Nigeria after the Biafra civil war many years ago.

Omirhobo said this in a post via his social media account on Sunday.

He was reacting to Gowon’s latest comment on the Biafran civil war.

I am happy General Gowon is alive when I am making my assertions.

I challenge Gowon to show evidence of Federal Government repair, rehabilitation or replacement of any of the Hospitals, Markets, Schools, Buildings or Roads destroyed by the intentional bombing by the Nigeria Air Force and their Arab mercenaries after the Nigerian /Biafran war
,” Omirhobo said.

I challenge him to show any Federal Government project that his government established in the Eastern part of Nigeria after the war.
I challenge Gowon to show the palliative or financial support that his government gave to the Easterners after the war.

I need proof of his government’s effort for the Eastern children to catch up with the educational system after missing out for over three years.

I challenge him to show how many Easterners who lost their jobs because of the war were reabsorbed after the war.

Take It from me, the war ended with Nigeria being the Victor and the Easterners the Vanquished. The (3 Rs) Reconciliation, Reconstruction and Rehabilitation policy of Gowon’s government was by mouth not deed.”

Recall that the former head of state after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu, disclosed to journalists how he was accused of being unable to prosecute the Biafra civil war.

Gowon, who ruled Nigeria between 1966 and 1975, had said, “If I can remember, when I was fighting the war I was told I was too slow and that probably Nigeria cannot make it and that we should now seek for discussion. Well, did we do it or not? They probably do not know the problem underground so that is where we are.”

PoliticsQatar Agrees To Tinubu’s Business Talks Proposal by Ebinpiawazuu(op): 4:04pm On Feb 25, 2024
Qatar has finally agreed to President Bola Tinubu’s proposal for a meeting to discuss business matters.

Earlier reports suggested that Qatar had rejected Tinubu’s proposed visit for business talks with Qatar.

However, Francisca Omayuli, a spokesperson at Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Ministry, confirmed that the president will visit Qatar on March 2 and 3, 2024.

She, however, kept mum on whether Qatar declined a meeting with President Tinubu.

But the Qatari government, in a statement on Sunday, informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that the Qatar Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a business conference on March 3rd, 2024.

“The Embassy of the State of Qatar in Abuja presents its compliments to the Protocol Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” it said.

“Regarding the upcoming state visit of H.E. PoliticsHardship: Don’t Join Protest Against Tinubu, Afenifere Begs Yoruba People by Ebinpiawazuu(op): 12:35pm On Feb 25, 2024
The leader of the Pan Yoruba sociopolitical group, Afenifere, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, has appealed to Nigerians, especially from the South West states, against the planned nationwide protest against President Bola Tinubu-led federal government amid the hardship Nigerians are currently experiencing.

Fasoranti who made this appeal, in a statement personally signed by him, lamented over the current economic crisis in the country, describing it as unfortunate, and urging Nigerians to endure the hardship for tomorrow’s prosperity.

Afenifere leader said
“As the National Leader of Afenifere, and leader of the Yoruba, I address all and sundry today with a deep understanding of the challenges our dear country is going through at this critical time. The outcry over the hardship, hunger, and price hikes is not unexpected.

“However, we must come to terms with the realities of our national challenges, which the present administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is striving to resolve.

“While acknowledging the hardships faced by our people, it is important to recognise that these economic measures, although difficult, are part of a larger strategy aimed at restoring economic prosperity and stability to Nigeria.

“The government’s commitment to implementing these measures is a testament to its dedication to addressing the root causes of our economic challenges, inherited from the ills of the previous years”

He said As a responsible leader, I appeal to every Yoruba man and woman, young and old, and our fellow citizens across the nationalities, to exercise patience and refrain from engaging in protests or actions that may escalate tensions.

“Understandably, the immediate impact of Tinubu’s economic reforms is challenging to everyone, but it is crucial to give the government the necessary time to realise the intended benefits”

Attributing the current economic hardship to the removal of fuel subsidy and has done great damage to the nation’s economy, saying “It is important to note that the removal of fuel subsidies and the floating of the Naira is not undertaken lightly, as we all know the great damage done to our national prosperity through the nefarious activities of the agents of darkness within the oil and financial sectors.

“These measures by the Federal Government, though painful in the short term, are designed to create a more sustainable economic environment that will benefit us all in the long run. It requires collective understanding and resilience from every citizen as we navigate through these challenging times.

“We cannot afford a preference for the euthanasic approach of painless death of our nation, where we are propped up with loans and subsidies until a total collapse into a failed nation, while we have the opportunity of painful healing through treatment with multiple surgeries that will guarantee not just our survival, but restored health, vigour and thriving life. We must endure today’s hardship for tomorrow’s prosperity”

He, however, appealed to Nigerians to give Tinubu more time and engage in constructive criticism that can contribute towards the development of the country.

“I implore you to trust in the government’s commitment to the welfare of our nation. Let us engage in constructive dialogue and contribute positively to the ongoing economic reforms.

“Join me in appealing for unity and understanding among our people. Together, we can weather this storm and emerge stronger as a nation.

“I want to assure you as the Leader of Afenifere, that we are actively engaging with the government at different levels to address the concerns of our people. Let us remain steadfast, patient, and united in the face of these challenges, confident that our collective resilience will pave the way for a more prosperous future”

PoliticsBiafra War: Your Comment Disgraceful, Shows Lack Of Wisdom – Sam Amadi To Gowon by Ebinpiawazuu(op): 3:09pm On Feb 23, 2024
The director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, Dr. Sam Amadi, has described the comment of former Military Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, regarding the Biafra war as disgraceful.

Amadi said the Biafra war prosecuted by Gown was needless and showed lack of wisdom.

Posting on social media, the sociopolitical analyst accused Gowon of seeing the civil war as an achievement.

He wrote: “What’s bad about Gowon’s comment is that he thinks prosecuting a civil war an achievement. It is actually a monumental failure that a nation went to war under his watch. To be proud of that failure is disgraceful.

“The war was needless, infantile and evidence of lack of wisdom.”

Gowon, who ruled Nigeria between 1966 and 1975, had recalled how they said he could not prosecute the civil war because he was slow.

Addressing journalists after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu, Gowon said, “If I can remember, when I was fighting the war I was told I was too slow and that probably Nigeria cannot make it and that we should now seek for discussion. Well, did we do it or not? They probably do not know the problem underground so that is where we are.”

PoliticsIgbos Will Lead Nigeria Into Another Civil War – Aare Kakanfo by Ebinpiawazuu(op): 12:28pm On Feb 23, 2024
A pan-Yoruba activist, Aare Kurunmi Kakanfo, has alleged that the Igbos will lead Nigeria into another civil war.
In a statement published on his verified X page on Friday, Kakanfo noted that the ethnic divide between the Yoruba and the Igbos cannot be placated unless the Southwest surrenders its political will to the Igbos.

Stating that the Igbos and Yoruba are sworn enemies, Kakanfo noted that this is so because of the domineering nature of the Igbos, who “wants to tell Yoruba men how to rule Oyo State” and also “claim the same rights as the Ijaws of Bayelsa.”

Kakanfo noted that while the Yoruba seek the aggrandizement of Yorubaland, the Igbos “want a Nigeria where they will be fighting with the Hausa man in Kano on who will become the Governor of Kano.”

He noted that if they are not nipped in the bud, their actions and inactions may plunge the country into another civil war.

Kakanfo’s statement reads, “The Southwest and Southeast can never align politically in Nigeria unless the Southwest is ready to surrender the political, economic, and social control of the Southwest to the Igbos.

“What does the south-west want in Nigeria? The majority of the southwesterners want a Nigeria where the resources and taxes of the south-west will be used to cater for the development of Yorubaland.

“An average Yoruba man is not interested in how any South East, South-South, or North West state spends their resources or the kind of local policies they make for their people. We want to practice true federalism by minding our business within a diverse and united Nigeria.

“What does the South East want in Nigeria? An average South Easterner is not content with Igboland.

“He wants to tell Yoruba men how to rule Oyo State; he wants to claim the same rights as the Ijaws of Bayelsa. Most Igbos want a Nigeria where they will be fighting with the Hausa man in Kano over who will become the governor of Kano.

“He wants to tell a Kanuri man in Borno why he should throw away his history, heritage, and Islamic civilization and embrace the kind of Nigeria that Azikwe preached that led to the bloody civil war of 1967.

“The Southeast complains about everyone and has turned themselves into opposition in any non-Igbo state in Nigeria.

“While they practice hardcore Igbo nationalism in their five eastern states, they become the financiers and organizers of detribalization, neoliberalism, and pan-Africanism in Yorubaland, the Niger Delta region, and the core north.

“The kind of politics they practice is not compatible with Federalism, which is why they have been the biggest beneficiaries of this chaotic unitarian system of government since 1966.

They go everywhere and complain about how the natives run their indigenous local politics.

“If Nigeria is not properly structured, they will lead Nigeria to another 1967. The Southwest and South East are eternal political enemies within Nigeria due to parallel ideological differences.”

The Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, General Christopher Musa, has warned those he described as “evil people” calling for a coup in Nigeria due to the current economic hardship in the country.

Musa warned that the law will come for those calling for a coup in the country over the current economic realities.

He spoke after inaugurating the main entrance of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army and Officers Transit Accommodation, at the Division Headquarters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The Army chief assured of the Armed Forces commitment towards the sustenance of democracy in Nigeria.

Musa said: “Whoever is making that call (coup) does not love Nigeria. We want to make it very clear that the Armed Forces of Nigeria are here to protect democracy.

“We all want democracy and we do better under democracy. And so we will continue to support democracy. And any of those ones that are calling for anything other than democracy are evil people and I think they don’t mean well for Nigeria.

“And they should be very careful because the law will come after them. We can see that with democracy a lot of things are happening in Nigeria. Yes we are going through trying periods, I mean in life nothing is hundred per cent.”

Musa said the Federal Government is focused on addressing the current economic challenges in the country and therefore appealed to Nigerians to exercise patience.

“Everybody goes through a trying period in life, and it is what you do with them. You can see the government putting efforts to ensure that we come out better.

“And it is when you go through difficulties and come out better you will really appreciate what it is to build a nation.

“And so we are going through our trying period, but I can assure Nigerians that it will get better,” he added.

Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, has reacted to the arrest of Julius Abure, national chairman of the party.

Abure was arrested on Wednesday in Benin city alongside Kelly Ogbaloi, the LP chairman in Edo state.

The police said Abure was arrested over a petition accusing him of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit dangerous harm.

The LP chairman has since been released.

Reacting, Obi in a post on his official X page, described Abure’s arrest as “demeaning and distressing”.

“Like many Nigerians, I observed the distasteful national television news reports detailing the humiliating arrest of the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Barrister Julius Abure, earlier today in Benin City, Edo state,” he said.

“My stance on this matter remains unwavering but does not explain watching the distressing image of our National Chairman lying on the ground in the name of arrest.

“This act is undesirable, demeaning and unequivocally intolerable and must be condemned by any decent and civilized mind within the context of our present civic landscape in Nigeria.

“Regarding the circumstances surrounding Mr. Abure’s arrest, it is crucial to emphasize that while constitutional authorities must be allowed to execute their statutory functions, officers must adhere to due process, civility, decency and established arrest procedures, embody civility, decorum, respect for the dignity and rights of citizens, and, above all, the presumption of innocence before the law.

“It is crucial to emphasize that as a leader within the Labour Party, Mr. Abure represents, both personally and statutorily, as the incumbent Chairman of the LP, the face of political opposition in Nigeria.

“Most importantly, political Parties are institutions of democratic statehood and ought to that extent be accorded due respect.”

PoliticsGive Tinubu More Time To Solve Challenges – Gowon by Ebinpiawazuu(op): 7:17pm On Feb 21, 2024
Retired Gen. Yakubu Gowon has urged Nigerians to give more time to the President Bola Tinubu-led administration, toward resolving the various challenges confronting the country.

He added that it was too early in the life of the administration to begin to resolve all the inherited crisis in different sectors.

Gowon said this after a meeting with Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday in Abuja.

“Well, I was telling him that no Nigerian leader that get there and will not have all the report of what is being said about him.

“But certainly, there’s no doubt from what one hears and what one sees on the various media. I think the government is trying its best to deal with the various problems of the country.

“Don’t you worry, you will get criticised but people who get there know better than you know.

“I think all what one can say is that Nigerians, we’ve got to give the President time to get things really done. And it is too early to say absolute result, perfect result will be achieved now.”

Gowon said the meeting with the President also centred on the issue of the challenges facing the ECOWAS subregions, adding that it must be settled amicably.

“Being the surviving leader, or founding fathers of the ECOWAS, I think we had to discuss some of his plans in order to see what can be done to bring the matter under control,” Gowon said.

He debunked claims on social media that he refused to attend an event organised by ECOWAS, adding that this was probably due to miscommunication.

“I think there was a miscommunication but then, it gave the opportunity for the President to call me so that we can discuss what I was to do.”
