An unidentified middle age man was electrocuted at the early hours of Sunday while trying to steal electric cable at a power supply installation in Kaduna.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the incident happened at Accra Crescent by LEA Primary School, Unguwar Rimi.

The traditional ruler of teh area, Dan Iyar Unguwar Rimi, Alhaji Muhammad Gidado, confirmed the incident.


Gidado said that the corpse of the vandal was evacuated from the scene by the police from Unguwar Rimi Division.

According to him, the vandal was unknown to them in the area and urged law enforcement agencies to step-up patrol as the community has suffered from the activities of vandals lately.

Gidado explained that the deceased tried to steal the 150mm four core up-riser cable at the distribution sub-station along Accra Crescent when nemesis caught up with him.

Members of the Hausa community in Onitsha, Anambra State, who fled the town following the two-day pro-Biafran agitation fracas, which resulted in the death of about nine persons and destruction of properties, are still into hiding.

When our correspondent visited Onitsha on Saturday, the baristas, shoe menders, green grocers, barbecue sellers and allied workers, who are of northern origin, had yet to open shops.

Investigations by our correspondent showed that most of them were still in the Nigerian Army and Nigeria Police barracks in the area, apparently for fear of attacks.

During the Biafran agitation mayhem, the Onitsha central mosque, a nomadic school and many other properties belonging to the Hausa community were destroyed.

An Onitsha resident, who spoke with our correspondent, said, “After the crisis, most of them only came out in the night to do brisk businesses and disappear again.”

Efforts to get the reaction of the Military Cantonment Central Mosque, where most of the displaced victims camped, did not yield any results as nobody was willing to speak on the issue.

“We don’t talk to strangers. Our leader is not around. He is the only person who has the power to talk on our behalf,” one of the victims said.

When contacted on the telephone, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ali Okechechukwu, said the Police were in control of the situation.

He called on the people of the state to go on with their businesses without any fear of molestation.

A lion which escaped early Wednesday from a wild life park in Jos, Plateau State (Read HERE), has been killed.

An official of the Plateau State Ministry of Tourism, in charge of the park, Abdullahi Abe, revealed that the animal had been shot dead.

He said the body of the lion would be taken to the National Veterinary Research Institute, Vom, Jos south Local Government Area the state, for preservation.

A former Minister ofstate under former President Jonathan’s administration, Ambassador Bashir Yuguda, has been arrested and is being interrogated by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of receiving money running into Billions of Naira which he cannot account for while he was in office.

A 30-year-old Lagos driver, Samuel Adamo, Adamo, who was married with three wives and five children, was stabbed to death in Oshodi, Lagos State.

He was said to have been attacked in one of the motor parks in the Oshodi-under-bridge area, while calling passengers into his bus.

It was learnt that some motor park thugs aka agbero, had approached him for a ‘loading fee’, but the deceased allegedly declined payment, saying there was no passenger in his bus yet.

In a well-coordinated terror attacks at eight different locations in Paris, including a restaurant, a stadium and a concert hall, no fewer than 130 people were killed penultimate Saturday with about 352 others injured – many of them critically. While we commiserate with the government and people of France, the tragedy also serves as a reminder of the kind of problem we are dealing with in Nigeria regarding Boko Haram, now officially recognised as the deadliest terror group in the world. It is even more ominous that the madness has spread to the Malian capital of Bamako where 170 guests of different nationalities were last Friday held hostage for hours at The Radisson Blu HOTEL with about 21 persons feared dead and several others wounded.

Therefore, what is required of the Nigerian authorities is eternal vigilance - which includes robust intelligence gathering, the clear understanding of the nature of the security challenge being confronted and the realisation that even with the best military might in the world, this kind of terrorism cannot be easily defeated. And as we move towards the festive season, there is need for the security agencies to pay greater attention to HOTELS, theatres, airports, motor parks and places of worship.

What has become very clear is that the world is dealing with a well-funded, global network, a hydra-headed monster in which the moment you cut off one branch, another quickly sprouts. When ‘Jihadi John’ was reportedly killed in a drone strike, many hailed it as a major breakthrough. Reports say 50-year-old widow has been beaten to death by some police officers attached to the Ondo State Police Command. This is another case of Police brutality.

A woman identified as Mrs Aderonke Eze has been beaten to death by Police officers in Akure. Mrs Eze, the victim of police brutality, is accused of resisting entrance of officers into her apartment for an illegal search. She was then allegedly beaten to death in her home. The deceased allegedly ran a mini beer palour close to her house in Akure, Ondo State.

Reports also have it that she was killed by unrepentant policemen using a gun butt. Her body was dumped at the general hospital’s morgue in Akure by the police officers numbering about seven.

A source disclosed that the police officers stormed the street at about 6:45 pm on Sunday in a Hilux van marked NPF 4236 B from the Oda Divisional Station and were purportedly carrying out an illegal house check with an aggressive search of all residential apartments on the street. A resident lamented that they were always going through this kind of “police brutality on a regular basis”.

According to the source, the policemen visited the street often to nab young boys suspected to be smoking marijuana, or Indian hemp.

Mr Ibrahim Adegunle, one of the residents of Akinyemi Street, off Ijoka road, where the incident occurred, disclosed that;

THE Federal government has banned the importation of a very common brand of generators locally called “I better pass my neighbour”.

The Controller, Federation Operations Unit Zone A, Lagos of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Madugu Sanni Jubrin, who disclosed this, yesterday, said, “the smaller generators have been banned by the Federal Government because it is causing air pollution and destruction of our lungs and breathing system.

Lack of medical supplies at the Yola specialist Hospital is hampering the treatment of victims of Tuesday’s bomb blast at a tipper garage in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, Premium Times reveals after visiting the said place.

The National Emergency management Agency confirmed that 32 persons died from the blast while 80 persons were injured.

The injured were taken to the Federal Medical Centre and Yola Specialist Hospital, a state-owned hospital.

The newspaper’s checks at the Hospital on Wednesday showed that most of those conveyed to the Hospital could not receive needed treatment due to lack of medical supplies.

One of the victims seen on his Hospital bed said he was only given “two tablets and one injection since last night”.

“Since they brought me yesterday, I was just given Tetanus injection and two tablets of Paracetamol,” he toldPremium Times as he writhed in pains. “You can see blood is still dripping from my wounds.”

Another victim said, “After I paid one thousand naira, they did an x-ray and said there is a metal inside my wound, however, nothing has happened since then”.

The victims requested not to be named for fear of victimization from relevant authorities.

A woman whose three daughters were affected by the blast told the newspaper only cotton wool was applied to her daughters’ injuries, as there was no enough medical supply.

“They just put cotton wool on the injuries and use masking tapes because they ran out of bandage. There was also no iodine to treat the wounds, only God can help us,” she said.

A commercial motorcyclist, popularly called ` Okada rider’, Abiola Salawu, who allegedly stole 50 litres of petrol from the Ketu Police Station, Lagos State, on Thursday appeared before an Ogudu Chief Magistrates’ Court. Salawu, 28, who lives at No. 18, Ishawo Rd., Ikorodu in Lagos State is facing a charge of stealing.

Vanguard allege that the Prosecutor, Sgt. Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that the accused had on May 25, at 5.40a.m., illegally entered the premises of the Ketu Police Station and stole 50 litres of petrol. Ihiehie said that the stolen product valued at N18, 000 belonged to the station. He said that the policemen observed that the petrol inside a gallon was missing from where they kept it.

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, Tuesday alleged an attempt on his life by a light skinned foreigner suspected to be a mercenary.
