Obi nestled one side of his head deeply into his pillow and pressed another pillow over his exposed ear, but yet, he could still hear the morning preacher.

“Repent! The kingdom of God is at hand. Turn away from your evil ways,” the man shouted at the top of his lungs.

It was as if all the evangelists in town had held a meeting and had decided to take turns preaching on his street every morning. Yesterday, the voice was female, and today, it was a guy.

With an angry grunt, Obi snatched up his phone from his bedside stool and checked the time.

“It's 5 freaking a.m.! Why the hell is this guy disturbing my sleep?” he demanded, although there was no one in his bedroom to answer him.

He had told the girl he picked up the previous night to leave immediately they had finished. He hated the idea of letting hookup girls spend the night with him. They were dirty and didn't deserve the privilege of cuddling with a man like him. He was a prize, after all, and only good girls deserved that honour.

“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. Jesus died so that you could get the chance to enter Heaven. Don't damn your soul to hell because you want to enjoy life,” the man went on.

Obi couldn't take it anymore. He could hardly breathe. Why were these people always preaching about doom? Jesus is coming soon, Jesus is coming soon. During his ancestors' time, they were also preaching that Jesus was coming soon. Yet, here he was in 2024 and Jesus still hadn't shown up. Enough already!

With that, he shot up from his bed and ran into his bathroom. He spotted some water in a bucket and picked it up. Then he unlocked his apartment door and rushed outside. Looking around, he spotted the preacher a few yards away from his building and walked towards him. Without a word, he emptied the bucket on the man's head.

The preacher was shocked into silence. He looked at the figure who had poured cold liquid on him. Although it wasn't daybreak yet, the streetlights illuminated the street. Standing before him was a young man who couldn't have been more than 29 years old. The man had an angry look on his face.

“Why the hell are you disturbing this neighbourhood? Don't you know people are trying to sleep? Unlike you, some of us actually work hard for a living, instead of going around, looking for people to bless us. Leave this place and don't ever come back, or else I'll release my dogs on you,” the man shouted.

With that, he turned around and walked back to his house. The preacher stood there shivering. He started to feel bad, but then remembered: If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. There was no reason to feel bad. All his sacrifices would be worth it in the end.

Bending down, the preacher picked up the Bible he had dropped when the man assaulted him and walked to the next street to continue his assignment.

***Two weeks later***

Obi was seated on his parlor sofa, and although the AC was on, he could feel beads of sweat rolling down his face and back. He was finding it difficult to process the news he had just received.

The sales boy in charge of selling his goods at Rumuokoro Market had called him saying a fire had broken out last night from the transformer near his boutique. His shop was the only one that got burnt. Four million naira worth of imported men's clothes and shoes were gone just like that.

Obi couldn't think clearly. How come his shop was the only one that caught fire? Why would this kind of thing happen to him? He had just stocked up his shop and his account balance had taken a huge hit. How would he recover from this?

Just then, his phone started ringing again. He looked at the caller ID. It was Desmond, his forex account manager.

“Good morning Sir,” Desmond said.

“Yea, Good morning. What's up?” Obi replied, finally finding his voice.

“Sir, I don't know how to say this. I'm so sorry Sir. I'm so so sorry. I don't even know what happened. I was waiting for the right moment to sell, and everything just crashed suddenly. All the money's gone.”

“Jesus!” Obi exclaimed, “my money. My money o. I'm finished. What do you mean Desmond? I thought you said you were a professional trader. What happened to my money Desmond?” The line went dead.

Obi was shaking now and his body was moist with sweat. God why? Why is this happening to me? What did I do wrong?

“I thought you don't believe in God,” he heard a voice say. He turned around sharply, but there was no one there.

“Who said that?” he demanded.

“…Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.”

Obi turned around again in trepidation. “I said who is there?! Who are you?!”

“I am the Lord. And mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: I will recompense thee according to thy ways and thine abominations that are in the midst of thee; and ye shall know that I am the Lord that smiteth,” the voice said.

“No…n-no. Please. I'm sorry. I didn't know. Please have mercy. I didn't know.”

Suddenly claustrophobic and dizzy with fear, Obi ran out of his house, and into the street.

“Please, no. Please, have mercy, I didn't know,” he kept screaming and looking around desperately. Unable to bear the heat, he ripped his shirt from his body. Who could help him? What was he going to do? Was this the end?

“What's wrong with what I'm wearing?” she challenged the woman. Not wanting to cause a scene, the usher attempted to take her hand to pull her to a corner, but Jennifer snatched her hand back and tried to enter the church.

Just then, one of the pastors walked up to them and asked what the problem was. He had noticed the lady's outfit too and wondered why satan had decided to send a temptress to the church that day.

Although some ladies usually dressed seductively to church, this woman was particularly daring. Her dress was very short. And it was so tight that he could see the outline of every curve on her body. There was no way they could let her match into the church looking like that. She would distract all the men and make it impossible for them to concentrate.

The female usher told him what was going on. “She's right,” the pastor said, “You can't come into the church like that. If you can't go home and change, you'll have to cover yourself with something or sit at the back where no one can see you.”

But that will ruin my plans, Jennifer thought.

“Why are you people acting like it's a sin or something to look beautiful?”

“It's not a sin to look beautiful my dear. It's a sin to engage in lasciviousness though,” said the man.

When a person lusts after someone or makes other people lust after them, they are sinning against God. Dressing, talking, walking or acting seductive is sinful in God’s eyes. The people who do so won't enter God's kingdom at the end of their lives,” the pastor explained slowly.

“Young lady, here's a piece of advice: you are beautiful. You don't need to be half-naked to show it. If you're dressed like that because you're trying to attract a spouse, you may end up attracting a wolf masquerading as a sheep. Godly men understand God's word and try to live by it. They would avoid you. Only those interested in your body would come. In addition, God would turn away His face from you, leaving your prayers unanswered.”

“Many people think of the church as a social gathering and completely disregard the spiritual aspect. The scriptures say in Matthew 18:20: For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. God is here with us, young woman. He sees all and knows all. He hears all our thoughts and sees all our actions. Please don't make Him pour out His anger on you. Accept Jesus today, and I promise you, your life will become incredible. Everything you seek will come. Don't ignore this message please. God bless you.”

With that, the pastor walked away. Jennifer stood rooted to the floor. After hearing all that the man had said, she suddenly felt very uneasy. She no longer wanted to enter the church dressed the way she was.

“Do you have a wrapper I can cover myself with?” she asked the usher. “Wait here,” the lady replied and went to get Jennifer a covering. Jennifer took it and sat at the far back where some nursing mothers were seated.

As she listened to the pastor’s sermon about living an acceptable Godly life that honours and glorifies God, her heart broke. One particular verse kept echoing in her head.

But know that the Lord hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the Lord will hear when I call unto him.

Was that why she had never received answers to her prayers? Suddenly unable to control herself, she broke down in tears. She felt exhausted. Putting in lots of effort to get money, buying clothes, make up and accessories that accentuated her body, and making sure she looked breathtaking everyday was tiring. She spent a great deal of time doing it; time that could be better spent on more productive activities.

And now, here was a man talking about how pointless everything was. She was spending all her time being obsessed with her physical appearance and neglecting what comes after death. She didn't want to go to hell. With tears in her eyes, she bowed her head and begged God to forgive her for all the sins she had committed. She thanked Him for sending His son to die for her sins and asked Jesus to come into her heart. After praying, she suddenly felt lighter and calmer.

Equally troubling was the fact that many young girls no longer wore skirts, shorts, trousers, or anything to cover their lower regions. The preacher thought, with dismay, how some daring ones even went as far as walking around in public without underwear. They had no idea that they were unwittingly inviting various non-human entities to inhabit them. People needed the Word now more than ever.

His mind drifted to a conversation he'd had with a young boy the previous day. The boy couldn't have been more than 19 years old, yet he was already into 'keyboarding'. He was leaning on a parked Mercedes CLA 250, and the preacher had known that the car was his, or that he was somehow affiliated with its owner, because he had the keys stylishly displayed on his left pinky finger under his silver iPhone.

Although the preacher knew that some young boys sometimes drove their parent's cars out, this boy was obviously into yahoo because he was dressed in that characteristic way in which keyboarders liked to array themselves. The preacher asked for his phone number and promised to call him later. He really hoped the boy would have a change of heart. It was disheartening to see so many young and promising souls on the pathway to destruction.

The sound of his phone ringing on his bedside table brought his mind back to the present. He had work to do. Inhaling deeply, the young pastor stood up, wore his shoes, and headed for the door.

There was a time when I thought only certain people could become wealthy. That my sister's dream to travel abroad was her being unrealistic. The day she told me about it, I told her to be more practical.

If I had known then what I know now, I would have asked her which country she wanted to travel to.

When you ask people what they think life is, you'll probably get different answers. For me, I believe life is a gift; an opportunity to have anything we want and become anything we want.

But the million dollar question is: how can we have anything we want?

The answer is quite simple, friend: By receiving grace.

God is so good that He makes abundance rain on believers and unbelievers. The only reason that we are what we are, that we are healthy, strong and able to accomplish anything is by the grace of God.

This verse is basically asking if you hate the grace of God and don't know that it's the only thing that makes it possible for a person to repent and know God?

God is eager to bless humans. Every time, we sit and complain that the country has spoilt. My dear, God wants to bless you. All He wants is for you to say sorry for what you've done and do good.

God is eager to bless humans. Every time, we sit and complain that the country has spoilt. My dear, God wants to bless you. All He wants is for you to say sorry for what you've done and do good.

You can only find God while you're alive. Once you die, your chance will be gone.

Sinful behaviour isn't the only thing that offends God. Sinful thoughts do too.

Everything God promises always come true: both blessings and curses.

Some people don't wait for satan to come to them. They go to him. They send signals saying satan we are ready, come and enter us. People invite satan into their lives by joining cults, dressing half-naked on the streets, thinking of ways to rape women and children and post it on the Internet. Satan comes, steals their time and destinies, destroys their lives, and kills them eventually.

In case you weren't paying attention earlier, this verse literally means that God WANTS to bless you. If you're still struggling and complaining that life is unfair and everything is against you, you aren't ready my dear. Change can only come when there is a genuine desire for it.

Because of the sin of one man, all of mankind became cursed...until God became man and came to teach us how to come back to Him.

God wants everyone of us to come into His kingdom. Stop hardening your heart. Let Jesus in. He will forget ALL your sins and rain down grace upon you.

Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.

God sent Jesus to us to bless us. Sin makes it impossible to receive blessings from God though. You can't be fornicating or scamming people and be thinking you have grace. You're not only cursing yourself, you're cursing your children and your children's children as well.

Think about it for a moment. What kind of kids can a fraudster or prostitute hope to raise? Not the kind that can be leaders of tomorrow, that's for sure.

When you accept Jesus, everything about your life will change. Everything.

There's a woman who lives opposite my compound with her husband and three children. One of the kids is a teenager, another one's a toddler and the last is still a baby.

The toddler is a little girl who they don't actively monitor, so she gets into all sorts of mischief like playing around in dirty puddles, treasure hunting in nearby bushes, etc.

The strange thing about her handlers is that whenever they catch her, they shout at her or even smack her...for being a child. It's the nature of children, especially toddlers, to.do those things.

My point is this: her mother claims to.be a Christian. She goes to church, goes for vigils, puts those stickers that declare one's victory over satan every year on her door, etc.

But yet, she gets so.angry when that little girl.does what little kids do. And she makes statements that shouldn't be uttered at children.


Here's what the scriptures say about anger:

But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

When a person becomes a Christian, you're not just expected to obey the ten commandments. There are a host of.emotions you're expected to abandon as well, the greatest one being anger.

Anger acts as a direct hindrance to your prayers.

Matthew 5:23-24 KJV
Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; [24] Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

Here, the scriptures say that when we make offerings to God, we must ensure that we are at peace with everyone.

So dear Christian, examine your life and ask yourself whether you're on the broad road or the narrow road.
