Guests who gathered at the Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Metta , Lagos, where actor cum producer, Obi Madubogwu is recuperating from a near-fatal bout with diabetic sore, were shocked as he narrated the ugly treatment meted out to him by some of the Nollywood stars he helped shape their movie careers since he became ill.


Madubogwu was speaking at a birthday bash initiated for him by the Anya Igbo Film Forum. According to him, it was a situation as his, that would reveal who truly was one’s friend and who was not. “I am truly thankful for the people who have been of help to me. But I am surprised at the behaviour of some of the stars whom I helped shape their film careers. Some have received cumulative acting fees from me running into tens of millions of Naira. I remember one who works with Governor Okorocha. I was the one who gave her the first movie role. I called her on the phone once and after that she refused to pick my call subsequently. Many Nollywood stars disappointed me at the point of need, avoiding my phone calls; but God has been great, giving me support from unfamiliar places”.

The birthday bash attracted members of the medical team of the hospital as well as Nollywood stars like Don Pedro Aganbi (Lagos AGN Chairman), Prince Ifeanyi Dike, Jude Orhorha, Ifeanyi Ikpoenyi, Dozie Eboh, Stanley Okoronkwo and Andy Chukwu amongst others.

'IBRAHIM IS NOW IN SCHOOL

Ibrahim is now in school, he started going since last week at FUTURE HOPE private school in London Chiki here in Maiduguri and so far he is doing very well. I visited the school today to see for myself how he is doing.

His teacher informed me that Ibrahim is already performing beyond expectations. She told me that he said he want to be the best student in the class, and every evening he use to receive extra lessons from one boy in his Neighbourhood. Ibrahim can now recite the English alphabets from A to Z, just within one week.

I later discovered that Ibrahim as little as he is, has been the one assisting his mother through the shoe shiner work that he is doing. I am now planning on how best to empower the mother so she can take care of Ibrahim and the rest of his siblings.

I want to specially thank my namesake Abdullahi Yusuf and one good Samaritan who doesn't want his name to be mentioned for their kind assistance. Insha Allah, the future of this boy is bright. May Allah give him the wisdom and increase his knowledge'

According to reports,7 Fulani gunmen in possession of arms at Azagba Ogwashi were arrested on Wednesday 22nd February at about 5:00am by Men of the Anioma Security Watch Network Vigilante group Azagba Ogwashi unit.

The vigilante members stopped a trailer conveying the Fulani gunmen,load of cows & their luggage at Azagba Junction.The suspected Fulani gunmen were  interrogated and the following weapons were found in their possession:

1. Seven Den Guns
2. Gun powder
3. Some catrages
4. Charms
5. Swords and cutlasses
6. Daggers and one battle axe

According to the Chairman of the Vigilante,the Fulani gunmen said they came all the way from Taraba State to Isselegu in Ndokwa East Local Government, Delta State.

Thee Divisional Police Officer, Ogwashi-uku, Mr Shuaibu was alerted.He sent his men to the scene of the incident. He equally called the Chief security officer, the Executive Chairman of Aniocha South LG, Hon (Chief) Isaac Ozo Anwuzia who applauded them and appreciated their effort and he also assured them of his usual support.

Enugu State Board of Internal Revenue, after obtaining Exparte Orders from the Enugu State High Court, sealed eight banks in the state for refusal to remit Withholding Taxes worth about N1billion into the coffer of the State Government.

Mr. Emeka Odo Chairman(on behalf of Esir),Enugu State Board of Internal Revenue gave reasons why the 8 banks were sealed off.....

Eight banks were this morning sealed by the Enugu State Government for failure to remit about ₦1, 000,000,000.00 (One Billion naira) in taxes to the coffer official the state government.

The state government, through the Enugu State Board of Internal Revenue (ESBIR) on Feburary 6 and 16, 2017, obtained Exparte Orders from the Enugu State High Court to distrain the affected banks. The Board began the enforcement exercise this morning, and I wish to state that it was very successful.

The eight banks are Access Bank PLC, Stanbic IBTC Bank, Skye Bank, Union Bank, Unity Bank, Heritage (Enterprise) Bank, Keystone Bank, and Sterling Bank.

The branches of the affected banks in the State, which are now under lock and key will remain locked until they pay to the state government the taxes they have collected on its behalf.

The government has been encouraging individual tax payers and tax agents to comply voluntarily by paying their taxes promptly. We have reformed the process of remittances of government revenues to make it easy for banks to pay their taxes like other corporate citizens.

In the past one year we have written the affected banks severally and held meetings with them on the subject matter but they would rather hold onto government funds illegally.

The action of the affected banks has been denying the State government of the funds it needs to execute its developmental programmes that would impact positively on the lives of the people.

The eight banks have a combined branch network of 36 branches in Enugu metropolis and the neighbouring towns of Agbani and Ituku Ozalla.

The sealing of the banks is the first phase of the enforcement exercise on major companies and institutions to ensure that they perform their civic obligation to the state government.

We can no longer allow the banks to behave like corporate outlaws, moreso, when it is on record that the Withholding Taxes (WHT) which the state government is demanding that Banks remit to its coffer, have already been deducted by the banks from the interests that they pay on deposits to their customers.

The banks have no business holding onto these taxes they collected on behalf of the government.

The present administration in Enugu State has laid out an ambitious plan to upgrade critical infrastructural facilities in the State. These people-oriented programmes need to be adequately funded urgently, because the state government is in a hurry to deliver on all its campaign promises to the people.

We are all aware that revenue allocation from the Federation Account to the state government has been dwindling. The government expects banks and other financial institutions to join hands with it to harness its internally generated revenues.

In view of the above, we call on the people of the state, especially customers of the affected banks to be calm and see the action as a measure to enable the government serve them better as their monies in the affected banks are safe.

'SHOCKING: MAN FOUND DEAD IN WARRI DRAINAGE

An unidentified young man was found dead inside a drainage along Ogunu Road, opposite Zenith Bank in Warri, Delta State.

Though information was still sketchy as at the time of this report, the lifeless body of the fresh and bulky looking man was discovered at about 7am Saturday February 18 by passersby.

It could not be ascertained on what could have led to the man's death and at what time the incident happened.

It was gathered that no injury was found on his body.

Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Hon. Matthew Mofe Edema who was alerted on the development, immediately mobilized Secretary to the Local Government Council, Hon. Bawo Alex Nanna and security officials to do the needful on the remains of the unidentified man.

As at the time of this report, the corpse has been removed and taken away by the Police for necessary action'
