Hello pros,

We got the Nigerian used highlander 2010 but we were told they used the popular Mobil xhp 20w50, we changed the oil to the recommended 5w30, after about a month, we noticed some smoke but it wasn’t frequent, it comes once in a while.

Oil was changed in May and as at now, it has ran 1,200 but the car has started showing “oil maintenance needed”, mechanic said there is a shortage of oil, pls what should we do? Top the oil or change the oil completely?
Should we continue with 5w30 or go back to 20w50?

If it has been panel bested as you claimed , you won't be able to see it. The owner decided not to tamper with it...your car could be hit anytime in Lagos....as you can see is just a minor issue . What is your next question?

Yes..kind of...my mechanic did some "servicing" on the fuel pump and there was considerable improvement some months ago. He also told me i will need to change the fuel pump as time goes on.

I guess i will be doing that soon as the symptom seems to be coming on again

Thanks for the response, I have the same issue and my mechanic just serviced the fuel filter today, we drove the car and there was improvement but it still hesitates once in a while, the best solution from him is to change the pump cos it's weak. He said the pump alone is 7k but if we want to change the whole components...it's 32k...another mechanic said the whole component is 15k...I am so confused..how much did your mechanic called it? Can u flash me on 08028162220...thanks

the scan codes thrown versus the problems mentioned do not match up.

A lot of variables could cause slugishness.

1. This scan result was targeted at ABS/VSC/TRC not powertrain. Since you said your MIL light is not lit, then we can rule out a misfire.
Check the following.

Rescan powertrain. If no codes check

1. Fuel pressure(fuel filter, fuel pump)
2. Dirty Maf
3. Blocked catalyst.

those codes will not help you, diagnose these problem. Is your check engine light illuminated when engine is running?

The check engine light isn't on sir, I only have VSC and ABS lights on...

Please what do you mean by "diagnose these problems"? I thought that was where these codes came from...please enlighten me

Hello gurus,

I feel a delay in start up on my Highlander, I feel a drag in first movement, I have to press the thrutle harder before it moves faster.

Secondly when I am on high speed and there is a need to slow down, it slows down perfectly but sluggishly pick up when I required it to move again...what could be wrong please? Please help a brother. Thanks...the scan result is shown below
