Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state has paid President Muhammadu Buhari a visit at the presidential villa in Abuja.

PoliticsReno To Bolaji Abdullahi: If I’m A Boy To Jonathan, You’re Clown To Saraki by Ebullience(op): 8:55pm On Nov 23, 2017
Bestselling author and former aide to Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Pastor Reno Omokri has replied an attack on him by the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, party, Bolaji Abdullahi, who said the pastor is a boy to Dr. Jonathan.

Pastor Omokri, in his response, said the APC spokesman who is widely said to be an ally to the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, especially haven once been appointed commissioner for education in Kwara by the then Governor Saraki, said while he (Omokri) accepts being called a boy to a president, that Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi is rather a clown to a senator.
Bolaji had called Pastor Omokri a boy when he was confronted with a question by some pressmen on what his thoughts were on a news report by Omokri saying he (Abdullahi) is a liar and that his book, ‘On a Platter of Gold: How Jonathan Won and Lost Nigeria’ which attempted a narration of how Jonathan lost the 2015 election, is equally “a tissue of lies.”

However, Pastor Omokri who returned verbal salvo said, “When faced with incontrovertible evidence proving that he lied, Bolaji Abdullahi, unable to defend himself, resorted to name calling. Bolaji, I repeat, your book is a tissue of lies and I proved it with facts.”

Pastor Omokri also said that “…Bolaji Abdullahi called me a “boy” to President Jonathan for proving, with incontrovertible evidence, that he lied in his book.”

He added by saying, “If I am a boy to GEJ, what is Bolaji to Saraki? I prefer to be a boy to a President than to be the clown of a Senator!”

Foreign AffairsZimbabweans Relish Bribe-free Roads After Mugabe’s Fall by Ebullience(op): 5:10pm On Nov 23, 2017
As Robert Mugabe’s regime tottered and fell, one immediate benefit that Zimbabweans celebrated with glee was the sudden absence of bribe-extracting police who were a symbol of life under his rule.
Endless police roadblocks were a notorious feature of every journey in Zimbabwe, with drivers reluctantly paying frequent bribes to evade long questioning over minor alleged offences.

But across Harare and along major national routes, barely a single police officer has been spotted since the military took over on November 14 and forced Mugabe to step down after 37 years in power.

During the turmoil, the absence of police — and the presence of the occasional armoured military vehicle on the streets — shed light on the dramatic political struggle that was fought behind closed doors.

Police Commissioner Augustine Chihuri remained a key supporter of Mugabe and his wife Grace until the end — while army chief General Constantino Chiwenga led the military effort to unseat the president.

For ordinary Zimbabweans, the future under incoming president Emmerson Mnangagwa may be uncertain, but the disappearance of corrupt traffic officers has been a daily cause to relish Mugabe’s exit.

“I was paying bribes two or three times a week,” Norman Manzini, 35, a self-employed brokerage dealer who drives a 2004 Nissan March hatchback, told AFP.

“It is amazing, now my route is clear every day.

“Even when everything about your car was perfect, they could pull you over about some silly thing and claim there was a fine to pay. To get away, you had to pay $5 (4.20 euros) or even $10.”

‘All about cash’
Manzini dismissed fears that crime might rise with the police apparently confined to their stations.

“The army are not dangerous or corrupt,” he said. “They let people go about their daily lives.”

For everyday transport, many Zimbabweans rely on privately-run “kombi” mini-bus taxis — favoured targets for bribe-hungry police.

“There used to be so many police roadblocks, with the driver having to pay $1 or $2,” said kombi passenger Spiwe Azvigumi, 31, an unemployed mother of three.

“It was never about speeding or whatever, it was about them collecting cash. It was impossible to escape. Some kombi owners even arranged to pay their fines in advance.

“With the police off the roads, crime is actually down — they were so corrupt and now we are living free.”

Faster commute
Encounters with the police were often polite but lengthy, and anyone who tried to swerve around a checkpoint faced having their tyres deflated by spikes thrown across the road.

In recent days, traffic flow at key junctions in Harare where officers normally lurked has been smooth.

Many Zimbabweans say the police were under pressure from their seniors to bring in bribe money — and were set monthly targets.

Zimbabwe’s political crisis has so far been peaceful ahead of Mnangagwa’s inauguration on Friday.

Whether the police will soon return to streets under his new adminstration is unclear.

The political upheaval could also worsen the dire economy that has left Zimbabwe often unable to pay army and police salaries on time.

For Paddington Chichiri, 24, the historic developments for his country have also meant a much easier 18-kilometre (11 mile) commute by kombi bus from the suburb of Glen View.

“Even if you weren’t always pulled over, it used to take over 40 minutes to get through six or seven roadblocks,” he said.

“The police have just disappeared and now it takes less the 20 minutes.

“We don’t mind the army for now. They’re ok.”

The minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, applauds the successful conduct of the Anambra state governorship election

- He said the outcome of the election showed that the Buhari administration had provided a level playing ground for all

- Willie Obiano receives his certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission

The minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, has said the federal government cannot stop people from selling their votes during election periods.

The minister made the statement when praising the successful conclusion of the Anambra state governorship election, Vanguard reports.

He said the outcome of the election showed that the Buhari administration had provided a level playing ground for all.

The minister said: “Frankly speaking, I didn’t follow the Anambra election, so, I cannot really talk about vote buying or ballot snatching. What I know that I can speak on is that number one, the Muhammadu Buhari administration provided a level playing field for all and he showed that from the manner he restored the security aides of Governor Obiano.”

“If the people now decide to sell their votes, there is nothing the government at the centre can do but we will continue to drum it and let them understand that vote is the single most powerful weapon they have and once they sell it, they can’t come round again until the next four years to complain about the kind of leaders they have."

Mohammed stated that the APC administration wants the people of Nigeria to decide the outcome of every election.

Meanwhile, the incumbent governor and winner of Saturday, November 18 gubernatorial election in Anambra state, Willie Obiano has received his certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

PoliticsAnti-grazing Law: Fulani Youths Appeal To President Buhari by Ebullience(op): 3:32pm On Nov 22, 2017
A group of Fulani youths have kicked against the anti-open grazing law

- The group in a statement said if the law is not suspended immediately it could puncture peaceful coexistence

- They also appealed to President Buhari to call the governors of the two states who passed the law to order

A Fulani youths group under the aegis of Jonde Jam Fulani Youth Association of Nigeria (JAFUYAN) have kicked against the recent anti-open grazing law passed by Benue and Taraba State governments, Channels TV reports.

The group in a statement on Tuesday, November 21, by Saidu Maikano, its national president said the law, if not suspended immediately, could puncture peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.

NAIJ.com gathered that the group also appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to call the governors of the two states, Samuel Ortom and Darius Ishaku to order.

Maikano further raised the alarm that the cattle belonging to his members are dying of hunger because they can’t go grazing in the areas where grazing is banned.

He said it is unconstitutional for any governor in the country to restrict movement of Fulani herdsmen who are naturally nomadic in the quest for their daily livelihood.

The Fulani youth leader said: “This may even cause religious crisis because the two governors that enacted the anti-grazing law are Christians, while other states governed by Muslims are not interested in the law. We are therefore asking President Muhammadu Buhari to call both Benue and Taraba States governors to order.

“If this is not done immediately, it may plunge the country into crisis and undue hardship among the generality of the people.”

NAIJ.com previously reported that the Nigeria police arraigned a herdsmen before a Makurdi chief magistrate court for open grazing, criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, culpable hom*cide and illegal possession of firearms.

According to Channels TV, the prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Imo Edward, told the court that on November 2, 2017, at about 07.30pm, the DPO Logo Division received a distress call from the unit commander police mobile force 13 squadron on special duty at Ayilamo.

EducationWAEC Releases Nov/dec. 2017 GCE Results by Ebullience(op): 9:15pm On Nov 21, 2017
The West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC) on Tuesday released the results of the 2017 West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates.

The Council’s Head of National Office (HNO), Mr Olu Adenipekun, announced the release of the results of the November/December diet of the examination at a news conference in Katsina.

Giving a breakdown of the results, the HNO said 135,945 candidates registered for the examination, but 133,223 wrote the test.

Adenipekun said 131,485 candidates that sat for the examination had their results fully processed and released.

He said that 1,738 candidates had yet to have their full results released because they had a few of their subjects still being processed due to errors traceable to them in the course of registration or writing the examination.

“Such errors are being corrected by the council to enable the affected candidates get their results fully processed and released subsequently,” he said.

Out of all candidates that wrote the examination, 34,664 obtained a minimum of credits in five subjects and above, including English Language and General Mathematics, representing 26.01 per cent.

He said the percentage of candidates in this category in 2015 and 2016 were 28.59 per cent and 38.50 per cent respectively.

“One will discover that the results for 2015 and 2017 are comparatively the same.

“There can be a reason for the sharp drop this year in this category, which we have not proved scientifically.”

He said it could be that some candidates needed a particular subject to make up their deficiencies for the WASSCE for the school candidates results, in order to assist them to gain placements into the higher institutions of their choice.

Adenipekun said that 65,483 other candidates obtained credits and above in five subjects while 46,824 obtained credits and above in six subjects.

In the same vein, 98,506 candidates obtained credits and above in three subjects while 83,256 candidates obtained credits and above in four subjects, and 11,763 others obtained credits and above in two subjects.

He explained that the release of this year’s results was special because it coincided with the 55th annual meeting of the Nigeria National Committee (NNC), holding in Katsina.

“The NNC is the highest policy making organ of WAEC at the national level.

“The committee consists of experienced personalities, with many of them as serving officers in the education sector representing a wide range of interests in the affairs of the council,” Adenipekun said.

He promised that WAEC would keep introducing innovations that would continually improve the standard of the examination.

Crime30 Women, Children Killed In Adamawa Militia Attack — Police by Ebullience(op): 8:25pm On Nov 21, 2017
Iro Dan Fulani

At least 30 women and children were killed Monday in attacks by militiamen in Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State, police said.

Residents and security sources said the attacks on the mainly Fulani settlements were by armed gangs suspected to be of the predominant Bachama ethnic group in the area.

They however said the death toll was higher.

An affected resident, Oriwa Hammadu, said the militia members were chanting war songs on Monday evening as they launched attacks on the settlements in Shafaran, Shawal, Gumara, Kikam and Kadamti villages in the area.

‘’The attacks came when all the men were out of the areas. Many had gone to market and a wedding ceremony in Mayo-Belwa, so they took us by surprise,” said Mr. Hammadu.

‘’I was on my way back from Numan town market when I saw smokes billowing from our settlements. Later, I saw some Bachama militia members numbering about 150 coming from our settlements.

“So, I had to sneak to save my life. But they killed our children, women and burnt houses.

“They came with dangerous weapons including machetes, daggers and guns and were chanting war songs in Bachama dialect.

‘’Both the injured and the corpses were evacuated to Numan General hospital,’’ a distraught Mr. Hammadu said.

A truck driver, Emmanuel Nwachuku who plies the Numan-Jalingo road said: ‘’The attackers singing Bachama songs came in their dozens.

“We saw them while crossing to Dong road. Thank God we escaped before they launched the attacks.’’

The spokesperson of Adamawa Police command, Othman Abubakar, said about 30 persons were killed in the attacks on herdsmen in the area.

‘’Thirty Fulani children and women were killed during the attacks in Numan villages by suspected Bachama farmers and already investigation has commenced to arrest the suspects.

‘’We were told the attackers hailed from the affected areas. We are on the top of the situation and already investigations have commenced to fish out those involved,’’ he said.

Speaking shortly after the burial of the victims, the North East chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN), Mafindi Danburam, said women and children were killed by the attackers who came in the wee hours of Monday.

‘’We have just observed the funeral rites of 45 bodies of women and children here in Numan. We are still searching for the remaining missing people.

‘’We want government to as matter of urgency swing into action by investigating those involved so as to avoid reprisal.”

Mr. Danburam alleged that Bachama youth had been threatening herdsmen to vacate the area.

‘’In the build up to these attacks, the district head of Numan had earlier summoned Fulani leaders and ordered them to leave his domain. He even threatened that there would be attack.

‘’And all pleas by the Fulani were to no avail,’’ he said.

The state Deputy Governor, Martins Babale, visited the area on Tuesday to assess the situation after which he called for calm.

Mr. Babale, who condemned the incident, vowed that government would fish out the culprits.

‘’The culprits would be brought to book and whoever is involved will not be spared, so lets learn to live in peace,’’ he urged.

PoliticsAbaribe Seeks N10m From Army Over Kanu’s Disappearance by Ebullience(op): 10:54pm On Nov 20, 2017
…as absence of Judge stalls trial

By Ikechukwu Nnochiri

ABUJA – Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe who was one of the three persons that stood surety for the ‘missing’ leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, has applied for damages against the Nigerian Army.

Abaribe who is representing Abia South Senatorial District, is urging trial Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja to compel the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai to pay N10million to him for the psychological trauma he has gone through following extra-judicial self-help actions of the Army he said led to Kanu’s dissapearance.
He equally applied for an order compelling Buratai to offset all expenses he incurred in the cause of the trial of the IPOB leader.

It will be recalled that the lawmaker had on October 17, prayed the court to revoke the undertaking he took on behalf of Kanu and discharge him as a surety in the matter.
He told the court that the Nigerian Army had in the course of military operations in Abia state from September 11, visited Kanu’s residence, adding that it was reported in the media that there was shooting and fracas during the visit.

He said Kanu “has not been seen again, nor reached on phone by the Applicant, neither is he reported in any news media as seen by any persom, nor made any statement on any issue”.
Abaribe told the court that he “lacks capacity to produce a person stated by the 1st Respondent to be a member of a terrorist organisation, or any persin whom the 1st Respondent is reported to be interested in his whereabouts including the aftermat of the military operations in Abia state which commenced about 11th September, 2017”.

Specifically, Abaribe is praying the court for, “An order of this honourable court discharging the applicant as surety of the 1st/2nd respondent, and discharging the recognizance entered into by the applicant, and to discharge the applicant from the entire incidence of the bail of Nnamdi Kanu- the 1st defendant/2nd respondent in charge No. FHC/Abj/CR/383/2015: Federal Republic of Nigeria v Nnamdi Kanu, Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Benjamin Madubugwu, David Nwawisi.

However, following a counter-affidavit that was filed by the federal government, Justice Nyako maintained that Abaribe must firstly produce Kanu before he could be allowed to withdraw as a surety in the case.

Meantime, the matter could not proceed as scheduled on Monday owing to absence of the trial Judge who however directed the court registrar to give the parties December 5 return date.

Eventhough Kanu was not available for continuation of his trial, Abaribe had deposited N100m as part of the bail conditions, was however in court.

In his fresh motion, Abaribe prayed for, “An order of the court compelling the Chief of Army Staff, on failure to produce 1st defendant/2nd respondent, to pay to the court the sum in the bail bond earlier executed by the applicant on behalf of 1st defendant/2nd respondent.

“An order of the court compelling the Chief of Army Staff to produce 1st defendant/2nd respondent before the court and or to explain to the satisfaction of the court the circumstance surrounding his whereabouts.

As well as, “An order of court compelling the Chief of Army Staff to show cause why the Attorney General of the Federation should not be compelled to initiate contempt proceedings against him for his extra-judicial self-help conducts that have obviously frustrated the proceedings and course of administration of justice and which actions have brought the court to some ridicule and its power appears nugatory as well as placing the applicant in a fixed up position.”

Abaribe predicated his application on the grounds that “Out of patriotic consideration of assisting the judicial process to defuse the overheating already generated in the polity and with full belief that 1st defendant was carrying on his activities within the limits and confines of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, applicant offered to stand surety for him and entered into recognizance and executed the bail bond on his behalf”.

He insisted that only the Nigerian Army could produce since it was soldiers that had last contact with him.

“The situation was such that applicant could no longer under the circumstances perform his obligation under the surety.

“As at the time of Chief of Army Staff ordered the deployment of his men and material to forcefully and violently invade and surrounded the town and residence of the 1st defendant/2nd respondent aforesaid, he had every knowledge of the pendency of this charge and that his conduct had the most probable effect of preventing the 1st defendant from attending court, to continue with his trial”, he averred.

PoliticsNUT Officials Accuse El-rufai Of Employing Unqualified Teachers by Ebullience(op): 10:03pm On Nov 18, 2017
Officials of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) Kaduna State have accused Governor Nasir El-Rufai of employing unqualified teachers, immediately he assumed office in 2015, insisting that the recent sack of 22,000 was for political reasons.

According to the NUT officials, the scripts displayed by El-Rufai on the internet were those of messengers and carpenters that the governor forcefully converted to teachers on his assumption of office.

The Union Chapter Chairman in Zaria, Mallam Yahaya Abbas, spoke in an interview with journalists in Zaria yesterday, saying that investigation conducted by the union revealed that the governor had employed unqualified teachers immediately he assumed office for political reasons.

Abbas said: “We were disturbed when we saw those scripts. This was why we investigated. You may recall that el-Rufa’i has directed the conversion of all redundant staff in the local education authorities to teachers. Among those converted were messengers, carpenters, labourers, security personnel among others. We were made to write the exam in question with these people”.

“Our investigation further revealed that candidate number EKUB 0059 displayed by El-Rufa’i was a carpenter in Kubau local council, before he was forcefully redeployed to the classroom. Candidate number EKUB 2839 was a messenger in the same local council.”

Abbas called on the government to rescind its decision to sack the teachers and deploy other means of fishing out unqualified teachers.

Health20 Interesting Human Tongue Facts by Ebullience(op): 11:22am On Sep 08, 2017
Human tongue is the most ignored organ, of course except special times. However, it is one of the most interesting organs in our body. We cannot live without brain, heart or lungs but we can live without our tongue. However, that does not mean that we don’t need it. This particular organ is important because it helps us to taste our food! There are other important functions of tongue as well. So, it becomes very imperative we learn 20 interesting human tongue facts.

1. Did you know that tongue is the only muscle in human body that works without any support from the skeleton? Yes! It is known as muscular hydrostat.

2. Our tongue is the home of our taste buds. When looked under a magnifying glass, hundreds and thousands of small bumps will become
visible on the tongue. These bumps are known as papillae and are the actual home of our taste buds.

3. Tongue is not the only place where taste buds live. Taste buds can also be found on the inside of our cheeks, on lips, on the roof of our
mouth and even under the tongue.

4. Approximately, there are 10,000 taste buds in our mouth of which 8,000 live on our tongue and the remaining 2,000 are found in the places
we mentioned in the previous point.

5. There are specific segments on tongue for sensing different tastes. The notion that different parts of the tongue is responsible for sensing
different types of tastes (in other words, there are taste belts) is actually a myth. Our tongue can taste sour, sweet, bitter, salty and umami.
Umami is actually a very new variant of taste discovered by a Japanese scientist who found that the chemical that is responsible for this
taste is monosodium glutamate.

6. Our tongue is the only muscle in our body that is capable of sensing taste and sending taste signals to the brain. Each individual taste bud
has around 15 receptacles that are responsible for carrying taste signals to our brain.

7. The tongue is THE STRONGEST muscle in entire body. However, it is at the same time, one of THE MOST sensitive muscles as well.

8. In terms of flexibility, tongue beats every other muscle in our body! Because of this flexibility, the tongue is capable of easily manipulating
food inside the mouth and is also capable of acting as a natural cleanser for our teeth after a meal.

9. Our tongue has a very unique property. It is incapable of detecting taste if it is dry. This means that if you place a piece of lemon on a dry
tongue, you will not be able to tell that it is sour. The tongue gets its ability to sense taste only in the presence of saliva that keeps it moist.

10. The color of the tongue can tell a lot about a person’s health. Here are some color indications about health: Pink Tongue = Good Health;
White Tongue = Fungal Infection and Yellow Tongue = Stomach Problem or Fever.

11. Tongueprints (actually tongue imprints) of humans are unique (very much same as the fingerprints). Tongues of different humans are of
different shapes and will have different number of taste buds, thus making the tongue imprints unique.

12. Tongue has a really really rough texture. Did you ever notice that while kissing someone?

13. Women have shorter tongues compared to males.

14. We mentioned in point 9 that a dry tongue is incapable of detecting taste. That’s because taste buds are capable of sensing taste only when
molecules of the food (or whatever you put in your mouth) dissolve in water (our saliva consists of water). This essentially means that you
cannot sense taste of anything whose molecules do not dissolve in water even if you have a moist tongue. Ever tried tasting glass?

15. Here is an interesting tongue fact – you don’t keep your tongue clean and you will get bad breath. Why so? That’s because our mouth is the
home of 600 different types of bacteria and a single saliva drop contains 1 million of those bacteria. Our entire tongue remains moist due to
saliva. So, can you ever imagine the number of bacteria present on our tongue?

16. Every taste bud on our tongue has somewhere between 50 and 100 taste sensing cells. No individual cell is capable of tasting more than
one taste.

17. About 2/3rd of the tongue is visible and the remaining 1/3rd is not visible. The part that is not visible is close to the throat.

18. In Tibet, you can merrily stick your tongue out at others. It will not be considered rude or childish. In Tibet, it is actually a greeting.

19. The tongue is more important than we think. It does not only help to taste food but also helps to talk, to spit, to swallow and even to kiss.

20. The longest human tongue to be ever recorded was 3.86 inches from back to tip. The widest tongue measured 3.1 inches. The longest
female tongue to be ever recorded was 2.76 inches.

If you have more, kindly share, because we all learn everyday.
