The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, in the just concluded presidential election in Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has been asked by group, called, the Coalition of Minority Tribes in Nigeria to either return to Cameroon or seek naturalization in Nigeria.

 The group gave the order following the claim of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that Atiku is a nationality of Cameroon and not a Nigerian. According. to the group, what Atiku has done by way concealing his identity is tantamount to crimes against humanity, saying he must tender an unreserved apology to Nigerians.

 Addressing a news conference yesterday, Abdulmuminu Hassan, who is the secretary-general of the group said Ibrahim Babangida, a former head of state, during his regime, had refused to appoint Atiku as the comptroller-general of the Nigerian Customs Service because he realised that Atiku was not true Nigerian. The PDP candidate is a retired customs officer.

However, Hassan has given Atiku a 21-day ultimatum to return to Cameroon in order to reunite with his family members.

"This same scenario could also be the reason why former President Olusegun Obasanjo refused to allow him to succeed him as President of Nigeria in 2007. This much was stated by former president Olusegun Obasanjo in his autobiography “My Watch” where he stated in unequivocal terms that the paternity of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar was 'shadowy."

"We are therefore constrained to state that it is such a shame that the Nigerian authorities have allowed such a sham fester for decades without detecting, and thereby causing Nigeria and Nigerians the opportunity to develop her country the way Nigerians would do. The Conference of Minority Tribes in Nigeria is indeed alarmed that the paternity of Alhaji Atiku was unlet undetected and he aspired and held the number two position of Vice President in Nigeria.

"His consequent actions while he was Vice President of Nigeria tells of a man who was hell-bent on destroying the country. Consequently, the Conference of Minority Tribes in Nigeria wishes to use this medium to issue a 21-day ultimatum to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar return to Cameroon to reunite with his family members. This is important to save Nigerians the trauma of having to deal with his nationality.

"The Conference of Minority also wishes to advise Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to in an alternative solution seek naturalization as a Nigerian by applying to the Federal Ministry of Interior in Nigeria. This way Nigerians would forgive him for his sins and show him understanding since he has lived the better part of his life in Nigeria. Though at a great disservice to Nigeria.

"The Conference of Minority Tribes in Nigeria shall not hesitate to mobilize its members across the nook and crannies in Nigeria to a street protest should Alhaji Atiku Abubakar fail to tender unreserved apologies to Nigerians, and also return to Cameroon or seek naturalisation in Nigeria", the text of Hassan speech.

There has been much speculation as to the authenticity of President Buhari’s WAEC attestation of results. In 2015, when the whereabouts of his WAEC certificate was brought into question, President Buhari had replied that all his academic qualifications had been listed in his presidential form. During the lead-up to the 2019 election when the matter arose again, the president decided to do a photo-op with officials from the WAEC presenting him with his attestation of results.

However, many Nigerians were quick to dismiss it as they believed that attestation held many discrepancies that was not in line with the statement of results showing 2016. For example, in the statement of results, it was revealed that the president had received ‘F9’ in Mathematics and Woodwork in the exam that he sat for in 1961. However, in the attestation that was presented to the president, these scores were conveniently left out. This led to WAEC clarifying these discrepancies in a series of tweets where they wrote:
“Let’s educate ourselves a bit: 1. President Buhari was given Attestation of results not a certificate; 2. Attestation of Results is given to a candidate whose certificate it damaged or missing; 3. It carries the passport photo of the candidate submitted during application; 4 Subjects that a candidate had F9s are no longer captured in certificates or Attestation of results; 5. WAEC in the five member countries do not issue a certificate twice; 6. WAEC was established on March 16, 1952.”

Regardless of the controversy that surrounded the President’s results, he went on to win the 2019 Presidential election. However, today, Festus Keyamo (SAN), a reputable lawyer in the country, in a series of tweets, explained that a WAEC certificate is not needed to qualify as a presidential candidate. He wrote:
“Section 318 of the 1999 constitution defined “School Certificate or its equivalent” to mean primary 6 School Leaving Certificate plus the ability to speak, write, understand and communicate in English Language to the satisfaction of INEC. No WAEC certificate is needed. By the definition of “School Certificate or its equivalent” in section 318 of the 1999 const, u don’t need a WAEC certificate to become President or Governor but if you present a FORGED WAEC or other certificate to INEC for any office, you will be disqualified.”

He went on to explain that “Forgery occurs when the supposed author of a document denies ever making it or denies its authenticity. WAEC has confirmed the authenticity of PMB’s certificate by issuing an attestation to it. Case closed. In #OsunCaseScenario WAEC has denied authenticity. See d difference? Let me end my free lecture by saying that the crux of the matter is that if you don’t have WAEC certificate, there’s no need to go ahead and forge one a bid to be Governor or President. You can still be qualified, regardless. That’s the mistake made in #OsunCaseScenario.

Now, this has caused a discourse on social media with many giving their different opinions to the point where WAEC is now trending on twitter. Some of the tweets on the matter are:

A very serious argument is going on right now.

A Canadian based Nigerian ideator known as Femi Shine has responded to Simi’s post on Yahoo boys in a long rant on Instagram.

If you may remember, Simi had posted a video on her instagram story where she ranted about the lifestyle of Yahoo Boys and how the world reacts to Nigerians based on this. She had said in the video:

“They are laughing at us. They are laughing at us. I am repeating it because I have seen it. Do you know how many Nigerians going to business meetings or just get the smallest opportunity for themselves to make it and they leave with nothing because they are Nigerian. That’s the only excuse they get.  ‘Sorry, we can’t work with Nigerians.’ ”

She continued on by saying that one did not have to like her or her music to really see the truth in what she was saying. She said:

“Common guys. You don’t have to like my music, You don’t have to send me, but you see, I am not the enemy. I can easily sit down and pretend that nothing is wrong and just make money, smile, cheers blah blah, but the thing is, I care too much. It’s just the way I’m wired. I don’t know how to be a passive person.”

Well, she got a lot of mixed responses to her video with some like M.I. Abaga calling her “courageous” for it and some not necessarily agreeing with her delivery. One of those is Femi Shine,  an ideator whose thoughts are shared usually via @lagoscitystories on Instagram. He believed that Simi was being an elitist and he did not hesitate to share his opinion via his instagram. He wrote:

“ I hesitated to address your recent pep talk because I’d sound hypocritical and my stand will be morally selective which is not my intent. Simi, I’m glad you’ve made headway in this treacherous industry even though I’m not a fan of your music. Your voice annoys me. You remind me of a CAC chorister back in my uni hostel who would wake the whole hostel up singing Tope Alabi’s songs whilst doing her laundry by the well. I’ve never bought your album/songs and I hurriedly skip them when they pop up in my streams. I’m not a hater, just absolutely not a fan. I pray you continue to be successful in your career.”

He continued on to criticise her for “her lack of exposure” by writing:

“On your recent tirade. Simi, you behaved like an out of touch elitist and showed that you lacked exposure and empathy to the plight of people who live on the unsavoury side. From what I deduced, you went to aa private school and from the known fees, I guess your parents are possibly middle class or well off. Therefore your rose petaled path through life has clouded your idea of what  the reality of life on the streets of Nigeria is.”

After sharing some of the horrible conditions he had witnessed including a sad situation where a friend of his had died due to lack of care of his sickle cell condition and how his father had to dump his body in the lagoon because they couldn’t afford to bury him, he criticised the government on it’s lack of care for citizens by writing:

“Our government is committing capital murder in the way our citizens are being treated. I call it capital murder because there is no reason why any Nigerian should die from malaria in 2019! But it’s happening. As you’re reading this, some young girls are braving the perils of the desert and high seas which include rape, kidnapping and death to get to Europe just to get there and go through the unimaginable to raise funds for their families back home. Simi, you can’t walk in their sand filled shoes! You’d say they have a choice and there are jobs. That’s easily said on paper. There are no jobs!!! There’s absolutely nothing and penury is the order of the day. A lot of people are burying their conscience in a bid to survive in Nigeria. Do you think the ladies of the night when asked as kids said ‘I’d like to stand y the road all night and offer my body to be plowed by different phalluses till the break of dawn and beyond’. The government has failed them, the church that is supposed to be the bedrock of morality in the community is ripping the people off their hard earned sweat in exchange for placebo hopes. Don’t attack the dejected and rejected Simi. You were beating your chest saying you care. Alright, take your sermon to the slums of Bariga and I pray you come back unscathed.”

Simi is yet to respond.

@nature 129 you are confusing me. You say money is not everything but you left ecoheight because of the pay. If you do not want to help just say so instead of speaking about growth cos you do not know where the guy is coming from. As for ecoheight his offer is very poor, plain and simple no need of sugar coating it. He is a business man and will have his expenses but so do the writers who he hopes to employ so he should improve his offer. Also in a previous thread someone complained about writing and not getting paid. Ecoheight admitted that the person wrote 30 articles and he only paid for 5 because the rest of the articles were not of high standard. Moving forward i will advice that you monitor your writers closely so they will not write a lot and not get paid and end up feeling cheated.

The issue is that whenever we publish vacancy for freelance writers, many cheaters will apply with the intension of sending us plagiarized or very low quality articles. We have a way to testing these articles before we accept and publish.

Now the question is, should we pay for just any article sent to us even though we don't want them? This is be harsh I believe.

I am not trying to spoil anybodys mind oo. But, 500naira for 1000 words article? LMAO. Someone will sit down and do a thorough research which could take up to 2 hours, with proofreading and editing to come up with a well written article of 1000 words only to be compensated with 500naira which cannot even buy a reasonable one month internet subscription. Dear Nigerian writers, your time is valuable and should be duly paid for.
I dunnoe know why creatives in Nigeria will accept to be underpaid. smh.
