For stealing from a dead customer, a
banker, Olawale Garuba, is to spend 39
years in jail.
The banker, who was convicted Thursday
by a Lagos High Court, was found guilty
by Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye, for
conspiring with six others to steal N30m
from bank account of a late customer.
The court found the convict guilty on 13
of the 18 counts, and sentenced him to
three years imprisonment on each count.
The sentences are to run concurrently
from the date of his first detention, which
is July 24, 2015. He is to spend only three
years in the prison.
The fraud was uncovered by the bank
when it was discovered that some of their
employees, including the convict had
connived with proxies to steal from a
dormant account of one of the bank’s
customers.
The Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission was called in and the
suspects handed over to the agency.
At first, the suspects pleaded not guilty to
18 counts of fraud, when they were first
arraigned.
They were refused bail by Justice Ipaye
and were remanded in prison custody.
However, on June 2, 2016, the convict
changed his plea from ‘not guilty’ to
‘guilty’. He was immediately convicted.
Counsel representing the convict,
Olanrewaju Ajanaku, pleaded with the
court to tamper justice with mercy in
sentencing his client. He told the court
that his client was a remorseful first time
offender with a young wife and two little
children.
But the prosecution counsel, Abba
Mohammed, urged the court to consider
the three-way traffic while tampering
justice with mercy. That is the interests of
the court, the victim and the convict.
The trial Judge after listening to both
sides noted that the convict allowed his
greed to overcome him and risk losing the
job that thousands of job seekers were
craving for.
She found the convict guilty on 13 of the
18 counts, and sentenced him accordingly.

Kampuchea Thmey Daily News,
the judge of municipal court
temporary imprisoned a 32-
year-old woman who was
accused of convincing young
schoolgirls to sell their
virginity. The trade normally
took place at the hotel.
Anti-human Trafficking and
Juvenile Protection said that in
the evening on May 26, police
cracked down on virginity
trading related crimes when a
woman was found brining
some young schoolgirls to the
hotel for their virginity trade
business located in Chea Sim
Blvd, Phnom Penh Thmey
commune, Sen Sok district,
Phnom Penh.
Police arrested Eng Bopha and
saved four young schoolgirls
whose age ranged from 17 to
23 years old. Police also
confiscated $1,000 USD.
"The saved victims told police
that they were brought to
Cambodians who live abroad
for the price ranging from
$1,500 to $2,500. However,
after they had slept with the
customers, they only received
$200. The suspect confessed to
committing the crime of human
trafficking." the police said
After questioning, the victims
were sent to Social Ministry in
Phnom Penh while the suspect
was sent to court and later
temporary imprisoned.

The PDP senators have walked out of the senate in protest of Amaechi’s ministerial confirmation The Senate rejected the report of the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges arguing that a nominee who has a corruption case in court should not be confirmed until the case is cleared .

Another Property which worth millions of naira were yesterday razed down by an angry son, Moshood Omolaso, set his father’s house ablaze.
The house is located at 28, Baale Street, Ojodu, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.
Moshood, who is now at large, was said to have set the house, occupied by more than 10 tenants, ablaze at about 6 p.m. yesterday.
Before the arrival of the Lagos State fire service men at the scene, the entire main building as well as the boys quarters had burnt down.
P.M.NEWS gathered that the incident, which came as a huge shock to many people, occurred after what was described as a minor misunderstanding between Moshood and his stepmother.
“It was after the quarrel that his father went to meet him outside. He thought the man was taking sides so he threatened to set the house, which is his father’s only asset, ablaze. Nobody took him seriously until he went to get petrol and set the house on fire from his stepmother’s room,” a tenant in the house told P.M NEWS, adding that Moshood had always been threatening to set his father’s house ablaze.
P.M.NEWS gathered that when the incident occurred, most of the tenants were not around, so they could not salvage their properties from the house.

Some days ago a couple in Anambra which recently welcomed a set of triplets have complained about how the state government didn’t assist them.

According to The Sun, Asiegbu Mmadubuko and his wife Oluchuwkwu had pleaded with the government for help, and said the government responded to their cries with a bag of rice, toiletries and N2,000 cash.

The couple didn’t know that they were welcoming triplets, with Asiegbu telling of his shock as the second and third babies came out.

The children were delivered at a local birth attendant, and complications in delivery forced Asiegbu to take his wife to the Amaku General Hospital in Awka.

Bills began to pile up as he began to borrow money after money, and decided to appeal to the state government for help with the situation.

He wrote a letter to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, but failed to get any worthwhile response.

No fewer than 2,000 commercial sex workers in Awka, the Anambra State capital, have concluded arrangements to go on strike on Wednesday, following the demolition of their “settlement” beside the cattle market at Amansea Awka North Local Government area of the state.

The State Urban Development Board stormed the place at about 3.12pm on Monday with over 50 armed police personnel, alleging that the brothels were being used a hideouts by kidnappers and other criminals.

The commercial sex workers quickly mobilised and set the remaining structures at the cattle market ablaze shortly after the demolition, accusing the ASUDEP officials of trying to “give a dog a bad name in order to hang it”.

The leader of the sex workers, who gave her name as Rachael, during an interview, described the action of the government officials as wicked and inhuman for destroying their “business centre without notice”.

She added, “We are decent people. We do our business and go our way. We don’t habour criminals. After all, most of the people that visit us are government officials. They want me to expose them?

“They destroyed our centre and left behind other huts, kiosks and canteens that belong to the Hausa cattle traders. Is that justice? Don’t those ones habour kidnappers and criminals?”

She threatened that the sex workers, numbering over 2,000, would embark on a four-day strike, starting from Wednesday, to register their grievances against the government’s action.

“We want to tell them that they are the people patronising us,” Rachael said.

The General Manager, ASUDB, Mr. Enemmuo Chinedu, who led the operation, said the exercise was part of Governor Willie Obiano’s resolve to rid the state of criminals.

Chinedu added that the structures demolished were illegal buildings, where prostitutes, kidnappers and armed robbers resided.

He said such demolition would be extended to Nnewi, Onitsha and other urban centres in the state, where brothels and illegal structures had sprung up “until all prostitutes in the state relocate”.

The ASUDEB boss explained that three weeks notice was given to the occupants to vacate the area.

He stated, “A lot of prostitutes live around Amansea cattle market, spoiling our children and constituting a nuisance in the area and you know that anywhere there is a brothel, criminals and kidnappers hover around there.

“In my capacity as the ASUDEB GM, I will ensure that this doesn’t exist anymore in the state and our activities are in line with our amiable governor’s policy on zero tolerance for criminals and kidnappers in the state.”
