Politics / Ibiono Ibom Peace Advocacy Group: On Completion And Arise Agenda, We Stand by edikandavid(m): 9:30am On Jun 29, 2022
" Peace can not be achieved by force, it can only be achieved by understanding " Albert Einstein.

In any democratic setting, advancing the cause of political harmony, human development and communal growth, through coexistence and tolerance, remains the hallmark of promoting Government of the people.

Such setting like ours in Nigeria, will resist every temptation to suppress dissenting views and opinions while seeking to understand them and promote unity in diversity by strictly adhering to the rule of law as stipulated in Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (As Amended), which provides thus: "Every person shall be entitled to assembly freely and associate with other persons, and in particular he may form or belong to any political party, trade union or any association for the protection of his interests".

It is on this premise that, people are expected to be intrinsically democratic in their respective political engagements by way of being ready to respect and entertain diverse thoughts, interests, aspirations, views, opinions, expectations, beliefs and ideology from others because there is a stunning beauty in a well-managed diversity which guarantees freedom, fairness, justice, equality, emancipation et al. Truth be told, this has been the golden principle of the current administration under the watch of Mr Udom Gabriel Emmanuel and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Akwa Ibom State.

So, as the 2023 general elections draw near and the leadership recruitment process is assuming a different dimension in our dear State, it is noble for the believers of Ibiono Ibom Project, who are members of the Ibiono Ibom Peace Advocacy Group, to deploy all legitimate means to discourage any individual who might be fanning the embers of discord, violence, coercion, threat, enmity, hostility, propaganda, blackmail and animosity et al, in the course of aspiring for any political position, so that it will be easy for them to stamp the signature of the Local Government in the process of achieving the completion and the arise agenda for the sake of attracting more dividends of democracy to the area.

Sequel to the foregoing, Ibiono Ibom Peace Advocacy Group hereby wishes to unequivocally state as follows;

1. That the resolve by Ibiono Ibom to support Gov Udom Emmanuel's Completion Agenda is irreversible.

2. That the decision by Ibiono Ibom to support the Arise Agenda of Pastor Umo Eno is unchangeable.

3. That the choice by Ibiono Ibom to give as usual, an overwhelming support to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP is nonnegotiable.

4. That the resolution by the Ibiono Ibom People to stand by the decision of Gov Udom Emmanuel, PDP Family and other stakeholders of the Akwa Ibom project as it regards the decision of Pastor Umo Bassey Eno remaining the Candidate of the PDP and worthy successor of the Governor, remains unshaken and that the group will work tirelessly to ensure total victory in the general elections in February and March 2023.

4. That Ibiono Ibom Peace Advocacy Group is a formidable group of professionals, Technocrats and trained socio political experts with proven track records from all endeavor of life, turbocharged to mobilizing massive support with a wider publicity physically and online on the good news about the completion and Arise Agenda.

5. That IPAG is not against the aspiration of any individual or group of individuals, so far it is done with decorum and in peace, but will frown at anyone who may try to turn Ibiono Ibom into a war zone or the den of violent agents. This will be resisted by the members of the group by all legal means.

6. That IPAG is poised to addressing issues and not persons and that the group will remain respectful to constituted authorities that are deserving while unanimously pledging to work for Gov Udom Emmanuel to end successfully in 2023 while Pastor Umo Eno comes on board successfully as well.

7. That IPAG members are Pan-Ibiono Ibom Peace Advocates who are from the 9 Clans, 11 Wards, 160 Polling Units and 193 Villages, who are ready to contribute their quota in consolidation on the visible gains that the State Government has recorded in the sustainability of the prevailing peaceful ambience being experienced in the state.

8. That IPAG has resolved to ensure that the message of peace is deeply engrained and flourished in Ibiono Ibom, as it will promote a peaceful and massive participation in the forthcoming elections thereby solving the problem of voters apathy.

On this note, Ibiono Ibom Peace Advocacy Group, IPAG wishes to remind every indigene of the area and stakeholder of Ibiono Ibom Project, of their responsibility to join hands in building an Ibiono Ibom that our forebears who fought so hard to create, will be proud of and our generation and the next generation will appreciate. Unfortunately, we cannot achieve much of this dream without remaining part of the Completion Agenda and being part of the Arise agenda but if anyone finds a new bride in any other political party, such fellow should do so with utmost respect for the rule of law without reversing the current peace that is prevailing in Ibiono Ibom.

Politics / Akan Okon Didnt Join Politics Because Of Intelligence And Leadership Strength by edikandavid(m): 9:17pm On Jun 23, 2022
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Elder Emmanuel Udosen says Mr. Akan Okon was not nominated a commissioner in the State Executive Council on the basis of being endowed with intelligence and leadership qualities, rather his emergence was merely a favour on him by his bigger friend and mentor Governor Udom Emmanuel.

This, according to him is because a more intelligent and experienced aspirant or politician would have verified his allegations of certificate forgery against the pastor before resorting to legal action.

Reacting to the allegations, Elder Udosen who is the steering committee chairman of Friends of Umo Eno League, FUEL, said, “the allegation is simply a character damaging game/prank which the lettered political thugs and bullies use, but which the gullible aspirant, unwisely, took to court without verifying.

“Don't forget, Akan Okon didn't enter politics because he had any leadership or intellectual background, or any political antecedents, but was merely drafted in because he was a close friend and the bestman to HE during the latter's wedding.

“Of course, you can't blame HE for doing that. It is what any good friend would have done to his friend in a clime like ours.

“As I am writing, Akan Okon seems yet to understand the consequences of malicious prosecution and is thinking that in politics, any smear campaign is allowed.”

Elder Udosen suggested that the obvious reason for the attack is because Pastor Umo Eno possesses the three critical areas for governmental leadership which are Character, Capacity and Competence.

He maintained that “the court action is a futile effort aimed at dislocating at least one leg of the tripod which is his character.

“Much as I will speak less of the matter because it is subjudice, I hereby assure every well meaning member of the public that there is no cause for alarm.

“Many people have called or text me to express their genuine fears based on the social media reports that Pst. Umo Eno forged his WAEC certificate.

“I have tried to respond to some and may not be able to reach back to everyone who has espressed their sincere concern.

“By using this medium, I can assure my audience/readers that Pst. Umo Eno's certificates are all genuine and intact.

“I have not only found and touched them by myself but I have the privilege of ascertaining that WAEC has verified and confirmed his certificates at different times.

“Even if not on any other occasion, we know that Uniuyo, my alma mater, verifies every entry result. The university may be wanting in any other area, but certainly not in the area of entry results verification”, he added.

Politics / PDP Confirms Sen Eyakenyi As Akwa Ibom Deputy Governorship Candidate by edikandavid(m): 4:04pm On Jun 22, 2022

Politics / Fake Prophets Responsible For Desperation By Akan Okon, Others - Ntukude by edikandavid(m): 10:56am On Jun 21, 2022
Until politicians begin to rely on sound pieces of advice from major stakeholders and accept realities, they would continue to fall prey to greedy prophets who aim at exploiting and rendering them hopeless.

The Deputy Director General of Pastor Umo Eno campaign organization, Dr (Prince) Godwin Ntukude stated this while dispelling the false notion that Pastor Umo Eno has stepped down for Mr Akan Okon in the 2023 Governorship race in Akwa Ibom State.

Speaking in an interview session anchored by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Research and Documentation, Mr Essien Ndueso on Comfort FM, Dr Ntukude blamed false prophets who are solely materially driven for driving Mr Okon into peddling such false news stories.

"There is this story in town that Akan my brother is a victim of a fake prophet. The one I'm told is a woman. Akan should try and detach himself from this (entanglement) because what is driving him into thinking that he can become governor, is fake prophetic declaration.

"All these false prophets are materially inclined, and self centered to make their money. The kind of money they have extorted from these gullible people is too humongous", he said.

"The artificial and false prophets are the genesis of the whole problem. The greatest challenge to our nascent democracy is the advent of false prophets who are materially inclined and self centered to make their money.

“The kind of money they have extorted from these people is too humongous. The way they concoct these prophesies, and network with sister/brother prophets, you are bound to believe that you are the one chosen.

"I sympathize with my friend and brother Akan Okon. We have been together in the State executive council. Beyond being a very close friend to His Excellency the Governor who entrusted him with so much responsibilities, I don't know what must have given him that false confidence that he can wobble through all these.

"This is a man who has never contested elections before and does not know what politics is all about. He is being misled by people who at the end, after draining him of his little money, will turn around and mock him.

"Anyone who engages Pastor Umo Eno will know that the man is a very intellectually high capacity gentleman.

Ntukude also explained that most people who saw Pastor Eno leave the St Francis Secondary School, Ikot Ataku after few terms most probably think he ended school then, but unknown to them, he furthered his career at Victory High School, Ikeja where he acquired his Senior School Certificate.

The deputy Campaign Director General commended the Governorship Candidate as one who is not only qualified but has so much content, adding that Pastor Eno cannot relinquish the position that was entrusted to him and further advised the public to discard such speculations.

Politics / Akan Okon And The Audacity Of Reckless Fury- His Fruitless Trip To Ghana by edikandavid(m): 11:13am On Jun 20, 2022
Akan Okon's recent clandestine move which has been made public by Intel is nothing but an unguided desperation to fight a man who has not offended him in anyway, except that favour knocked on his door.

Edward Kegs observed that a desperate man would go any length to justify his fury. Believing nothing less, one can attest to the fact that Akan Okon's fury is simply a sponsored conspiracy to still distract Akwa Ibom people from the big picture: The Arise Agenda.

Recently, a friend who works at the International Airport, Ghana hinted me that Akan Okon and some politicians from the state arrived the airport. I quickly pleaded him to monitor their moves, which he did.

It was gathered that they headed to the Headquarters of the West African Examination Council (WAEC). From our contact at WAEC office, it was revealed that they were there with an application to access Umo Eno's WAEC result, but that the application was turned down.

The official at the council who disclosed this to our contact anonymously said Akan Okon and his cohorts were asked to return to Akwa Ibom and apply to the zonal office in Akwa Ibom, from there, the office would forward to the country's WAEC office in Lagos.

Despite their alleged attempt to bribe the officials to give approval to their ill-conceived request, they were rebuffed.

If Akan Okon feels this is not true, let him tell Akwa Ibom people what he went to do at Ghana, and why he went to the WAEC office.

This is nothing but desperation. If he wanted to do something genuine, he would have verified his claims before going public to question Umo Eno's WAEC certificate. But he ignored all the protocol and depended on hearsay.

Besides, the Akan Okon we all know would not use his money to pick flight ticket to Ghana. He has always been complaining that he does not have money. It means that some desperate persons are sponsoring him to move around like a roaring lion looking for whom to devour.

Since his eventual failure at the gubernatorial primary in the state, he has been moving from pillar to pole looking for any loophole to attack Pst. Umo Eno.

However, the questions tasking a concerned mind are: Why has Akan Okon suddenly turned against a man who has not offended him in anyway? Why is he working against a former colleague at the state EXCO who has not offended him except that favour smiled on him. Why is Akan Okon this desperate about fighting Umo Eno?

Akwa Ibom people should know that this is not just a political gimmick. Some people are pushing Akan Okon to destroy the little respect people still have for him. People are playing drums for him to dance, and funny enough, Akan Okon is gradually dancing to irrelevance.

The most notable one is his refusal to remit the sum of 4 out of 5 million naira given to him by Hensek Integrated Services who happened to be his brother from Ikot Abasi LGA.

The release which was made available at the weekend also added that the Vice Chairman Engr. Uwem Akpan, Engr Ikemesit Orok, the Secretary, and Engr. James Amiang, the IPC  illegally announced suspension of chairman is againt is contrary to section 5.7.ii of the NSE Byelaw on removal of officers from office.

However, the release equally spelt out the disqualification of Engr. Uwem Akpan as aspirant in the July 2022 NSE Uyo Branch election.

Nairaland / General / Breaking: Nse Uyo Branch Suspends Chairman, Ukeme Okpob And Treasurer, Engr Emem by edikandavid(m): 2:29pm On Jun 18, 2022
...Vice Chairman takes over on Acting Capacity

...Calls off tomorrow's Branch meeting

The Nigerian Society of Engineers(NSE), Uyo Branch has suspended its chairman, Engr. Ukeme Okpob and Treasurer, ENGR EMEM Ezekiel over what is described as their arrogant refusal to respond to petitions on gross abuse of office, misconduct and fraudulent diversion of funds belonging to the NSE, Uyo Branch to the Chairman's company and personal accounts.

Confirming the suspension in a telephone chat with Pressmen, the General Secretary of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Uyo Branch, Engr. Ikemesit Orok said the body was moved to wield the sledgehammer on Engr. Okpob and ENGR Ezekiel after a series of petitions brought against him ranging from abuse of office and general misconduct. Engr. Orok confirmed:

'The erstwhile Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr. Ukeme Okpob alongside the Treasurer of the Branch were suspended today because there was a petition that was written against the duo to respond to our Disciplinary Committee, which happens to be a very revered College of Fellows. The College is a body that handles issues bothering on misconduct, illegalities, embezzlement and every other issues that do not sit well with what our bye laws stipulates'.

The group's scribe further opened up insights into why the suspension was effected today:

'He was given a timeframe to respond to the accusations, which he failed. In the wisdom of the College, who are elderly in their handling of issues allowed another span of two weeks for the now suspended Chairman and Treasurer, which they still failed.

In the spirit of moving the group forward and fair play, the College had to write back to the petitioners, advising us to seek redress and handle it using justice and fair play.

So what transpired today is that, Exco members turned up in good number for our meeting and heard of the issues on ground and attitude of the Chairman and Treasurer not willing to respond to the petition were very disgusted. Based on that, the Immediate Past Chairman of the Branch who also doubles as Ex-Officio 1 in the Branch Exco moved a motion for his suspension and was seconded by Engr Dr Essien Udo (an Associate Professor of Geotechnical Engineering) who serves in ExCo as the Chapter Chairman of Civil Division, pending a thorough investigation into the issues. As it stands now, Engr. Ukeme Okpob and ENGR Emem Ezekiel are suspended as Chairman and Treasurer respectively of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Uyo Branch. The Vice Chairman, Engr. Uwem Akpan takes over as acting Chairman with immediate effect'.

The Secretary calls on members of the body and the general public to be well guided by the latest developments until further notice.

Attempts to get a word across from the embattled Chairman proved abortive as he refused responding to calls and messages.
Meanwhile, the meeting of the body which was scheduled to hold tomorrow has been called off.

Politics / Umo Eno Cannot Step Down For Akan Okon Or Any Other Desperate Politician by edikandavid(m): 4:35pm On Jun 17, 2022
A media advocacy group, the Mandate Eyes, has confirmed that the PDP Governorship Candidate, Pastor Umo Eno has not stepped down from the 2023 Governorship race in Akwa Ibom but is rather waxing stronger with his support base increasing by the day.

The group has described as false and poor fabricated, a news that Mr Akan Okon has been approached and asked to step in as the new candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP.

In an interview in Uyo, Publicity Secretary of the group, Pastor Micheal Okon said, “we have come across a grammatically morally reprehensible concocted story by media urchins suspected to be working for a defeated Governorship aspirant, Akan Ekpe Okon.

The group wondered how Akan Okon who could only manage a miserable 3 votes in the governorship primaries that more than 1000 Adhoc delegates voted, could be given the destiny of over 7million people.

“Recently people from Akan Okon’s community in Mbiatok, Itu local government area, have come out to disown him on account of his poor disposition to generosity and philanthropy.

“How can a man who has been disowned and publicly disgraced by his community for failure to use his position for the benefit of others, be entrusted with the destiny of Akwa Ibom people?”

The group maintained that “Pastor Umo Eno, having attended and acquired his senior school certificate from the Victory High School, Ikeja where he was the Senior Prefect, has been hailed and celebrated by his school mates, current college principal, as a worthy Ambassador of the school.

“Akan Okon and his media scavengers should understand that no contest can ever be won by the number of lies and insult hurled at political rivals.

“Mr Akan Okon’s sponsored blackmails and veiled media attacks against Umo Eno during their time in the State Executive Council never fetched him any medal of honour and we don’t believe it will happen any time soon.

We hereby call on well meaning people to ignore this poor attempt of winning the race through the back door by a rejected, defeated and inconsequential political charlatan.

Politics / Allow The Plaintiffs To Sink With Their Failed Burden- Nwoko Tells Court by edikandavid(m): 10:52pm On Jun 14, 2022
Adopting his processes on the substantive matter, Barr Uwemedimo Nwoko, SAN, on his part argued that no evidence abounds that the plaintiffs showed interest in the Ward congress primaries.

That the exhibit they showed as proof of participation is the receipt by Sen Albert. “One man went and bought 1000 forms and anybody in the world can just come and claim he is part of the 1000 beneficiaries. We have tendered the 987 receipts of the entire winners of the Ward congresses. We have tendered the entire results sheets of the entire 329 wards, and the local government summaries of collated results of congress.”

Mr Nwoko submitted that the plaintiffs have not proved any of their allegations.

They have not proved that they bought forms , they have not proved that they submitted their forms and have failed to prove that elections did not hold. The burden of proof is on their shoulder, I urge that My lord to allow them to sink with the heavy burden on their shoulders.

Politics / Sen Albert Breaks Silence: Why I Purchased 1000 Forms by edikandavid(m): 11:54am On Jun 14, 2022
Senator Bassey Albert has finally admitted purchasing forms for his cronies to allegedly rig in the 2022 Ward Adhoc delegates Congress in Akwa Ibom State.

Senator Albert spoke through his personal assistant on Media Mr Anny Michael in reaction to widespread condemnation on why he purchased 1000 forms for his personal use.

Reacting on Facebook, a social media interactive forum, Senator Albert said he committed no offense in purchasing the forms.

“My Boss is a decent man, there is nothing wrong in purchasing forms for people, after all did Berekete Radio not purchase Presidential form for Me (sic) Udom Emmanuel, did Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District youths not purchase Governorship form for Distinguished Senator Bassey Albert (OBA) my amiable Boss.”

“The Crux of what is before the court is whether the Ad hoc delegates primaries was done in line with PDP constitution of widespread participation or whether some members were disenfranchised making the process invalid as such using such a list to conduct a Governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and House of Assembly and the outcomes a nullity.

Bassey Albert’s spokesman concluded that, “There is no point being diversionary in the approach to justice.”

Politics / Former CAN Chairman Carpets Attack On Pastor Umo Eno, Chides Enemies Of Progress by edikandavid(m): 3:10pm On Jun 12, 2022
The immediate past Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Akwa Ibom State, Rev. Dr. Ndueso Ekwere has urged the PDP Gubernatorial candidate in Akwa Ibom, Pastor Umo Eno and entire Akwa Ibom people to ignore recent campaign of calumny launched by those he describe as enemies of progress against the person of Pastor Eno.

Speaking at All Nations Christian Ministry, Eket, during a thanksgiving held to appreciate God for the succesful nomination of the Governorship candidate in the recently concluded Primary election of the PDP and subsequent collection of Certificate of Return at the PDP secretariat in Abuja.

Dr. Ekwere who expressed surprise at how petty some politicians could be in their failed attempt to drag a fellow human in the mud, explained that contrary to the lies being peddled by Umo Eno's traducers, the Governorship candidate attended Victory High School for his secondary education and performed brilliantly in the West African Examination Council, WAEC examination.

"I remember how I carried this young man at that time. I can now say with excitement; praise be to God for I am also a grandfather of the Governor.

"When I hear people talking about his academics and all the things I read on social media, all i can say is what they are saying is not true. Of course there are a lot of things that have been said about me that has been totally false. People just concoct things to make a story look sweet. So, I'm thinking nobody could have said anything concerning the academics of Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, because I am a witness of what God did for him.

"This young man that graduated from Victory High School. This is somebody who represented this country in the United States of America in a debate competition. In his class 4 he represented this country in a quiz completion and won the second position for Nigeria. This is somebody that sat for and got his senior school certificate, WAEC".

"I'm tempted to think that people who toy with people's academics are not sure if they have one. I want to thank God for the victory. I bring greetings from his family to you. You are blessed, hurdles have been scaled, the last hurdle shall be completed. Thank you for remembering God".

Pastor Umo Eno, while leading his family in the thanksgiving reiterated the essence of appreciating God at every step of victory.

He said he would continue to thank God every step of the way, just like David did in the Bible , and urged everyone to imbibe the spirit of thanksgiving to God, who gives every good thing.

... Urges Guber Candidate to Forgive, Accommodate His Traducers, Blackmailers

The President General of the Akwa Ibom Traditional Rulers Council, and the Oku Ibom Ibibio, Ntenyin Solomon Etuk has congratulated Pastor Umo Eno on his successful nomination and presentation with a certificate of return as the Akwa Ibom State Governorship Standard Bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Oku Ibom registered his felicitation when Pastor Umo Eno, shortly on return from Abuja, paid a visit to the palace to show him his new certificate of return

The Oku Ibom Ibibio commended the Governorship Candidate for the homage done him and his council of chiefs, stressing that such was a fruit of good upbringing.

The royal father emphasized that Pastor Eno is blessed and favoured, adding that it was his appointed time and others should wait and pray for their turn.

He advised the PDP Governorship Candidate, Pastor Umo Eno to forgive and accommodate those throwing tantrums on him, and urged him to open his arms of love to other aspirants who lost out in the race, in the interest of unity and peace of the State.

The monarch further advised him not to bear any grudge against those who smear him on the media, but should see it as part of the challenges of the game of politics.

The visibly elated monarch said Pastor Umo ENO’S victory is an act of God, maintaining that "what we are seeing today is not a mistake. Men can do whatever they wish, but God has destined it to be so."

Earlier while presenting the certificate of return to the Oku Ibom Ibibio, Pastor Umo Eno said the visit to the palace was a mark of respect for the traditional institution and the Oku Ibom Ibibio in particular.

He recalled that he first consulted the royal fathers before going out for the race, adding, "now that I have been given the certificate, I had to come back to show you that I am now a certified Governorship candidate”.

Pastor Eno commended the traditional institution for their support and prayers, and appealed for more support especially as the general elections beckon.

Politics / Court Exhibit Reveals Sen Albert ‘dubiously’ Purchased 1000 Delegates Forms by edikandavid(m): 12:14pm On Jun 10, 2022
COURT EXHIBIT REVEALS SEN ALBERT ‘DUBIOUSLY’ PURCHASED 1000 DELEGATES FORMS TO RIG PDP CONGRESS

These are not the best of times for supporters of an Akwa Ibom governorship aspirant, Senator Bassey Albert whose alleged attempt to use the court to scuttle the PDP nomination exercises appears to be a futile show.

Senator Albert is accused of attempting to criminally plot the rigging of the April 30, 2022 Wards Adhoc congress in a dubious manner.

The 987 Adhoc Delegates elected during the April 30th PDP Ward Congress in Akwa Ibom State filed these accusations in a preliminary objection questioning the status of the petitioners Friday Iwok and 30 others, who are opposing their emergence as delegates in a federal high court in Abuja.

When the case resumes for hearing on June 14 before Justice Obiora Egwatu, the defendants will be expecting response to their objection on why a document attached to the Plaintiffs Counter Affidavit titled: “AD-HOC DELEGATES LIST FOR FORMS PURCHASE” Exhibit Q, shows that a Governorship Aspirant Senator Albert Bassey had purchased One Thousand (1000) Forms for himself.

They are accusing the Uyo Senator of “dubiously purchasing the forms in his name to be distributed to his own cronies, so that they would possibly vote for him at the Governorship Congress.”

This revelation, they maintained shows, none of the Plaintiffs bought the expression of interest form or in any way showed interest in contesting the Ad hoc Delegate election and therefore do not have the locus standi to challenge the exercise.

Represented by 329 of their members, the delegates, through their Counsel, Uwemedimo Nwoko,SAN, told the Federal High Court in Abuja that the Originating Summons by the claimants is “incompetent and incurably bad in Law.”

Barr Nwoko had argued that, “having not participated in the ward Congress, the plaintiffs are strangers to the ward Congress.”

He argued further that the Ward Congress is an internal and domestic affair of the PDP, the 2nd Defendant and the Court lacked the jurisdiction to adjudicate on it.

Challenging the jurisdiction of the court, the PDP and the AdHoc Delegates reasoned that “the suit is challenging the conduct of the party congress which is not within the purview of pre-election matter as covered by Section 84 of the Electoral Act 2022.

The 12-point objection also maintained that “The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Constitution has very robust internal dispute resolution mechanisms in its provision which members are mandated to explore and exhaust, before instituting any external dispute resolution intervention.

The 3rd - 331st defendants insisted that the suit was premature since Friday Iwok and his co-travelers did not seek and exhaust the internal dispute resolution mechanism of the party before instituting the suit.

Mr. Friday Iwok and his fellow supporters of defeated Governorship aspirant, Senator Bassey Albert (OBA), are seeking the order of the court to nullify the April 30, 2022 Akwa Ibom PDP Ad-Hoc delegates congress in the 329 wards in the State.

During the last hearing on the case on May 25, Counsel to the Plaintiffs, Mr Ahmed Raji, SAN had appealed for additional time to study the additional preliminary objections raised by the 2nd defendant and the 3rd to 331st defendants.

Raji had also wanted the court to rather examine pending motions while giving him time to study the issues raised in the preliminary objections raised by the defense counsel.

“In the circumstances, it is my prayer that all pending motions be taken so that today will not be a waste", he prayed.

But Paul Usoro,SAN however insisted that the court had earlier agreed with an earlier authority in a matter between Dangote and African Petroleum(AP), that preliminary objections must be heard first before the substantive matter is heard.

Chief Usoro prayed the court to adjourn to a later date if the Plaintiff’s Counsel sought more time to study the preliminary objections.

Uwemedimo Nwoko, SAN, on his part agreed with the arguments of the Counsel to the 2nd Defendant on the need to exhaust the preliminary objections challenging the jurisdiction of the court and the locus standi of the petitioners.

“My lord, in our local parlance they used to say, an aeroplane does not have a reverse gear, meaning that the court cannot reverse itself.”

Arguing further on the need to adjourn the matter, Nwoko said, “Inside the court earlier today, we have been served with two affidavits by the Plaintiffs and I have not yet to read the contents of the documents.”

“My lord, in our local parlance they used to say, aeroplane does not have a reverse gear, meaning that the court cannot reverse itself.”

Justice Obiora Egwatu in his ruling, adjourned the case to June 14 for hearing on all applications before the court.

Politics / You Uncommonly Betrayed The South South And South East, Nigerians Berate Akpabio by edikandavid(m): 5:42pm On Jun 08, 2022
The last minute decision by the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State and immediate past Minister of Niger-Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio to back out of the Presidential race on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC Tuesday night at the party's National convention has attracted widespread condemnation, as many have described his action as 'uncommon treachery and betrayal of his people'.

The Senator has been described as an uncommon betrayer, for being the only aspirant from the South South and South East to step down for Bola Tinubu in the South West, despite the region’s grip on power for 16 years as President and Vice President respectively.

Recall that a new twist emerged Tuesday night at the just concluded All Progressive Congress (APC) special convention for election of Presidential candidate, when Godswill Akpabio whose turn it was to address delegates, mounted the platform, disqualified himself, before declaring his support for another aspirant, Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the consternation of supporters.

Senator Akpabio who had openly demarketed himself at the APC special convention had told the bewildered party delegates that he was not fit to govern Nigeria, hence his decision to withdraw from the race in support for Bola Tinubu who he described as a visionary.

Reacting to the former Governor's shocking cowardice, a United States based, Thompson Essien who mocked the Senator for displaying a defeatist behaviour at the party convention, argued that his action was not surprising, as he had already predicted that he was not anywhere.

Thompson wrote on his Facebook page; "Akpabio: I built Heaven in Akwa Ibom; i even brought God down. In any case, I'm not fit to govern Nigeria, please vote for Tinubu. I told you guys, the man needs a visit with a psychiatrist".

Mr. Thompson Essien had also in another post on his Facebook handle hailed that every one knew that Godswill Akpabio would never go beyond the Presidential Primary.

Ugwunna Ejikem who hails from the South-Eastern part of the country where Akpabio is
P an in-law had lambasted the former Minister for not being man enough face other contenders in the race.

Taking to her twitter handle, Ejikem had wondered why Akpabio only ended up listing his achievement as Governor of Akwa Ibom where he served under the PDP and still asked his delegates to vote for Bola Tinubu.

The tweet reads; "Godswill Akpabio finished naming his achievements as Governor then asked his delegates to vote for Bola Tinubu because of those achievements, are these men on crack".

Reacting to Ugwunna's tweet, another twitter handler with account name, Eugene_Ughami@Baronnevo mocked Akpabio for praising his achievements as a PDP Governor and turning around to claim the same party that brought him to political limelight did nothing in 16years.

His tweet reads; "what do you expect from a man who praised his achievements as a PDP governor, then said the same PDP did nothing in 16yrs".

Callers on radio stations in Akwa Ibom who phoned in to the news review and political discourse segments on some of the stations monitored by our reporter held diverse opinions on the action of the former Governor, while applauding another aspirant from the South-South region, Rotimi Amaechi for making the entire region proud by his decision not to backdown from the race as Akpabio did.

A former National official of the PDP, and Managing Director, Akwa Ibom Property Investment Company, APICO, Barr. Patrick Udomfang while reacting on the comment section of a trending online debate on the matter, noted that the stepping down signals failure and does not pass a good message about the State.

He however commended Governor Udom Emmanuel for not toeing the same path during the recently concluded Presidential Primary election of the PDP.

" Stepping down is a failure, Udom fought gallantly as a proud Akwa Ibom son and secured the 4th position out of 12. That is not easy and he has registered Akwa Ibom state in the National History".

Another public affairs analyst, Mr Idongesit Inyang had this to say on a popular whatsapp group; "Senator Akpabio legit said that it's not his time or something like that. That he is stepping down for a man with vision?"
Distinguished Senator iniehe vision idem amo?
"So, on a really good day, Distinguished will choose Mr. Tinubu over himself?
Like, he will tell people, 'Da, dede Tinubu ami adiongo mkpo ke governance ankan mien o'?"

A popular preacher of the African Church faith, Rev Richard Peters, had argued that the former Niger-Delta Affairs Minister may had known he won't make it at the primary hence his decision to abandon the race midway to escape the impending embarrassment that was awaiting him. It was discovered that delegates from Akwa Ibom who were with him were not screened to participate in the exercise owing to a court order.

"Godswill Akpabio asked delegates from Akwa Ibom to vote for Ahmed Tinubu, as it stance, no delegate from Akwa Ibom has voted because the list Akpabio presented is not certified by INEC. Akpabio knew that he won't have upto 5 votes that was why he chicken out shamefully, cheaply and surreptitiously"

Idongesit Uyo, another cleric based in Abak local government of Akwa Ibom State, on his part believes “a man who went saw and attempted to conquer is better than a man who went, saw and surrendered.”

Describing the Senator as one who is not politically smart in his calculation, Uyo argued that he would have stood his ground and face the ballot to test his popularity, rather than chickening out as he did at the last minute.

According to him "someone resigned as a Minister (not under duress) A position he held on trust for Akwa Ibom. Spent N100million on form (N1m in 100 places) campaigned all over the country, went to the venue and stepped down for Tinubu....Like, of all people, Tinubu and you are telling us that he is smart!"

"The truth is that Sen. Godswill Akpabio is very predictable. But his people won't see it because at times, loyalty blinds a man"

Usenobong Iseh in his submission averred that there was nothing smart about Akpabio's withdrawal from the race.

He opined that it would have been fine if he had stepped down for Prof. Yemi Osinbajo or Rotimi Amaechi, instead of Tinubu who is said to be far older in age.

"There is nothing smart there , had it been he stepped down for CRA or PYO who are better and vibrant people"

Akpabio's action has been widely seen as a display of betrayal, treachery and cowardice for a man of his standing to drum support for a 90year old man when there were other credible and much younger aspirants he would have thrown his weight behind if he felt he lacked what it takes to lead the country.

Surprised by Akpabio's volte-face decision, Ubong Sampson in a facebook post, Wednesday queried "I hope Godswill Akpabio won't aspire for any public office that requires electoral process in this country".

"We all should apologise to Udom Emmanuel for ever undermining his 38 votes. At least, he went all out to prove he wanted that opportunity to serve".

"How can you stand on national TV to say you had 1200 delegates to vote you, yet, stepped down for an old fragile man who took more than 10 seconds to flip a page of his written speech because his hand can't hold anything firmly?"

"So Godswill that I should have voted for is expecting me to vote for Tinubu?", he quipped.

Politics / 2023: Akpabio Denies Pact With Sen. Bassey Albert On Power Rotation by edikandavid(m): 2:05pm On Jun 08, 2022
A former governor of Akwa ibom state and the immediate past Minister of Niger Delta Affairs Chief Godswill Akpabio has denied any form of pact or agreement with Senator Bassey Albert popularly called OBA to have him succeed Governor Udom Emmanuel as Governor in 2023.

Akpabio who abdicated the position of Senate Minority leader and defected to All Progressives congress in August 6TH 2018 on personal grounds said there was no such agreement anywhere and urges anybody who claims to have one, to make it public.

Akpabio’s whose remarks came on the heels of the recent media interview on Planet FM Uyo where Senator Bassey Albert claimed there was a pact endorsed with the former governor and former senate president David Mark as co-signatories where he was to become the beneficiary of the Governorship seat after Udom Emmanuel in 2023 also wondered why a non-indigene of the state will be part of those to determine the destiny of the state by 2023 if at all there is such pact.

Speaking through one of his close Aide, Akpabio who said he left Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for good wondered why he should be dragged into the internal wrangling of the party when he is already pursuing his political dreams in another platform.

According to the Aide, “Chief Godswill Akpabio has distanced himself from the so-called pact or agreement which OBA is verbally brandishing in the media without any verifiable evidence. He is of the opinion that OBA should pursue his governorship ambition in a more honorable way than talking of nonexistence issues to garner undue and undeserved political advantage. I thought he is already in court, it will be better to continue that way and leave Akpabio completely out of their politics' '.

He highlighted that among the shocker from OBA was the issue of having former Senate President from Benue state Mr David Mark involved in the internal politics of Akwa ibom state to the point of determining the next governor for Akwa ibom in 2023 in the alleged and nonexistence pact.

“ To even mention that David Mark is involved in the so called Agreement to choose a governor in 2023 for our people is already causing angst among reasonable Akwa ibom public, do Akwa ibom elites also intervene in the Benue state politics to the point of choosing leaders for them” he asked rhetorically.

Politics / The Real Reason Why Akpabio Stepped Down For Tinubu At The Apc Pres. Primaries by edikandavid(m): 12:02pm On Jun 08, 2022
A lot of people have been asking questions, saying so many things and accusing Senator Akpabio of betraying South-South by not standing till the end or paving way for Amaechi.

But, I will tell you why Akpabio can't stand against Ahmed Bola Tinubu during the APC Presidential Primaries.

As far back 2019, when the powers that be came for the 'head' of the then most powerful politician in Akwa Ibom State, the only way his sins can be washed away was for him to swallow his vomits and join the APC, and he had no other option, or he will see everything he has worked for disappearing into thin air.

During the consultations for his possible defection to the All Progressives Congress, it seemed as if all doors were shut against him, that the move wasn't going to be possible, maybe on the instructions of the leader of the party, stating that he shouldn't be admitted into the party, owing to the part he played in the 2015 elections for the PDP.

On one of his visits to the leaders of the APC, he met with the vice president of Nigeria, Prof Yemi Osinbajo at the Villa, who may have told him that the only person he can talk to at the time was Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, because the president had a soft spot for him, and he bought into the idea and jetted out to meet with the jagagban in Lagos.

After he met with Tinubu, we saw pictures of both of them trending on social media, and it could be that was when the deal for him to join the APC was sealed, and maybe the jagagban might have spoken with President Muhammadu Buhari on his behalf.

A few days later, if not hours, we saw pictures of Godswill Akpabio nearing prostrating before Buhari in London, and those photos were everywhere and it caused a major stir in the Nigerian political system.

Remember, this happened a few days or hours after Akpabio had a meeting with Tinubu.

Then, upon his return to Nigeria, and subsequently Akwa Ibom State, he officially announced his defection to the APC, a party he once addressed as the houseboy party.

How time flies!

For me, for Akpabio to have entered the race, even when he knew he had no chance of winning was a way to pay back and renew his loyalty to Ahmed Bola Tinubu, and that is what he did last night during the APC Presidential Primaries.

My name is Edikan David, and I write from Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

Politics / Akwa Ibom Has Never Gotten It Wrong With Akon Eyakenyi by edikandavid(m): 8:29pm On Jun 06, 2022
If the choice of Pastor Umo Bassey Eno by Akwa Ibom people as their governor in 2023 is widely seen as a delicious cake with the ingredients of peace and prosperity, then the icing on the cake has come with the well thought out choice of Senator Dr Akon Eyakenyi as the running mate and potential deputy governor of Akwa Ibom State.

Senator Eyakenyi stands out as one leader Akwa Ibom State has tested in different capacities, across administrations. In all her stations of life, she has added verifiable value to the growth and development of the society, diligently climbing the rungs of leadership and administration with distinction and creativity.

This is what Akwa Ibom State deserves, and this is what Akwa Ibom State has got as the leadership to Pastor Umo Eno. It is a perfect blend of experience, management skills, goodwill and passion for the continuous development of the state.
Her bag of experience is thick and loveably intimidating. She set sail from the harbour as a teacher where she was trained at the Teacher's Training College, Oron and stunningly rose to the pinnacle of professional, academic and political careers.
A stickler for knowledge and excellence, she has mopped all available knowledge with a thirsty sponge climaxing in the University of Cross River State and later University of Uyo where she earned the prestigious doctoral degree.
She has occupied various political appointments where one excellent performance preceded and gave rise to the other. That topnotch leadership performance beautifully hunted her, as the saying goes, the reward for hardwork is more work.
She was Member in the State Secondary Education Board, and was later appointed Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism. She did exceedingly well. At different points, she became Chairman, Technical Schools Board, Chairman, Governing Council, Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic which was preceded by a golden performance as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
If those were appointments, she was later to contest and defeat an incumbent as the Senator Representing Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District, an office she will complete in June, 2023.
At least, four civilian administrations in Akwa Ibom State have engaged the services of Dr Eyakenyi, and she has never been found wanting.
Such is the luggage of experience the grassroots politician, mobilizer, philanthropist and above all political stabilizer is bringing in as the Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State upon swearing in in 2023. She is vast in civil and public service and will complement the magic of private sector experience of her boss, Pastor Umo Eno when they eventually assume office.

Her choice as the Deputy Governor also underscores the gender balance praxis as operated in Akwa Ibom State. The women has a worthy ambassador in her as the number two citizen of Akwa Ibom State, which shows clearly that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP is exceptional in gender balance. This is also a box ticked right in the equity question of the tripod upon which Akwa Ibom State stands. It is not just that she is from Eket Senatorial District but specifically from the Oro nation. The nomination of Senator Akon Eyakenyi as Deputy Governorship candidate of the PDP has been described as a perfect choice that meets the acceptability of all well meaning people of Eket Senatorial District and Akwa Ibom State as a whole.

Accordingly, political jobbers have been advised to back off, as no intensity of sponsored media attacks can diminish the soaring profile of the Oron born technocrat who is currently representing the zone in the red chambers.

Several media and interest groups ranging from Eket Senatorial District Media Professionals, Akwa Ibom Integrity Alliance and Eket federal constituency media forum, in separate media statements described Dr Eyakenyi as a hardworking and focused leader who has never been found wanting in any assigned responsibility.

According to the umbrella media group in the senatorial district, Eket Senatorial Media Professionals Forum, “We take this opportunity to profoundly congratulate and rejoice with you over your emergence as the running mate and deputy governorship candidate to Pst. Umo Eno, the Peoples Democratic Party PDP gubernatorial candidate for 2023 election in Akwa Ibom State.

“Your selection as the deputy governorship candidate comes at the crucial time for Akwa Ibom State, Eket Senatorial District and Oron Federal Constituency to strengthen and deepen the democratic values of equity and fairness, boost equal gender participation in governance.

“You have worked so hard and created the necessary advantage to acquit yourself before the leader of the party, His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel, the party’s standard bearer Pastor Umo Eno, and the entire leadership of Akwa Ibom State chapter of the PDP”, Eket Senatorial Media Professionals asserted.

The groups insisted that Dr Eyakenyi’s track record as Minister of the Federal Republic, Commissioner in the State Executive Council, Board Chairman, as well as her current position as Senator of the Federal Republic, have projected her into a hot bride for the state Number Two position

The groups commended Governor Udom Emmanuel and Pastor Umo Eno, and all critical stakeholders of the PDP on the decision to choose Mrs Akon Eyakenyi and wished the party success in the forth coming elections.

Politics / 2023 Guber: OBA Activates Plan B, Picks Form In YPP by edikandavid(m): 9:28am On May 30, 2022
…We Won’t follow Bassey Albert to any Mushroom Party- Supporters

From all indications, the embattled Senator Bassey Albert appears to be in dilemma over his intention of activating his Plan B, a move that will see the Senator representing Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District contesting the 2023 governorship election on the platform of the Young Peoples Party, YPP.

A source in his camp has confirmed that the Senator has actually picked the YPP form following his inability to secure the support of PDP delegates in the Governorship Primary election held last week at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo where he scored a paltry 1 vote.

It is believed that the form that Pastor Nyenime Andy purchased for YPP, was actually procured for OBA. Owing to the shift in the deadline by INEC for the conduct of Primary elections by Political parties, this may have given Senator Albert enough window to keep his supporters in suspense till when the cat would be let out the bag.

But his major dilemma is the refusal of his key supporters follow him to what could be described as "a journey to political self destruct".

While Sir Emem Akpabio; member representing Ini/Ikono Federal Constituency, Hon Emmanuel Ukpong-udo; and member representing Ikono State Constituency, Hon Asuquo Udo, have agreed to defect with OBA to YPP, others are undecided largely because they are afraid that for those in the State Assembly, their seats may be declared vacant while those with Board appointments may be terminated, a fate they said they are not ready to take.

Investigation reveals that last week's reported picking of the YPP Expression of Interest and Nomination form by the Akwa Ibom State Chairman of YPP, Apostle Nyeneime Andy, ostensibly to run for the 2023 governorship primary of the party was actually a decoy.

"Apostle Nyeneime Andy was actually buying the form for keeps in trust for OBA ahead of his defection. OBA, Macaire, Akpanusoh and a few others have long bought their YPP nomination form. Infact, they have all paid for their clearance. But the challenge they have is that some of those OBA thought will defect with him are developing cold feet when viewed against the background of what happened to those that defected from the PDP in 2019".

"Don't forget all those who defected to APC with former Governor Akpabio all lost the 2019 general elections. That is the greatest fear among top OBA loyalists which has dimmed the hope of any fanfare when he finally leaves to try his luck in YPP," said a high ranking member of the Akwa Ubok Abasi Campaign Organization who pleaded anonymity.

Findings show that Hon Asuquo Nana Udo want OBA to guarantee him and others that should they loose their seats upon their defection to YPP, he (OBA) will pay them all the salaries and emoluments they are entitled to as a condition for defecting with him, a precondition OBA is reportedly not favorably disposed to.

Another major source of disagreement is in the area of funding of the new political party, the YPP. While some of OBA's loyalists are of the view that OBA should solely finance the new party in all the wards, local governments, federal Constituencies and Senatorial Districts and assume the role of the leader of YPP in Akwa Ibom State, OBA on his part is of the opinion that since it is politics which is all about interest, the risk should be shared in view of the fact that it is more of a business and political venture than it is a social contract.

Also, unresolved was who among his loyalists will stay back to play the spoilers role in PDP ahead of the 2023 general elections.

"OBA wants some of them to stay back and see how they can frustrate PDP not having candidates for 2023 but they know that card won't work. Some key members of the campaign are advising him to rather accept the outcome of event in the PDP, embrace the Governor's succession agenda and endorse Umo Eno at least for the sake of his supporters", said a source.

The many unresolved issues seem to have beclouded the fanfare that was envisaged will engulf the political atmosphere with OBA's purported defection to YPP.

Reacting to the development, a University Lecturer, Dr Ubong Akpan said, OBA's purported defection to YPP is noting but a quick way for the Ibiono Ibom born ex banker to dribble himself into political extinction, advising that he should rather accept his fate and remain in PDP, a party he noted gave him the ladder to get to where he is today in life.

Also speaking, a public affairs analyst, Mr Ekomobong Peter said, while some names mentioned may sound big, the reality on ground does not support the premise that they can cause any major political upstage in 2023.

"Every election cycle is not devoid of issues, dramas, sense and senselessness. Party members worth their name must approach season as this with a baggage of understanding, never to unblock the canal of emotions, thereby reducing the high to a low", he admonished.

On claims by Hon Ukpong-udo that the PDP is attempting to field an unpopular candidate, Mr Peter said the Ini/Ikono lawmaker is overrated as he would not have won in 2019 but not for the votes from Ini LGA.

"I challenge my House of Representatives member to publish the 2O19 result of his ward and Local Government for the House of Representative election between himself and candidate of the APC justifying his claims of popularity".

"He should be reminded that notoriety is not popularity. If Ini LGA didn't deal mercilessly with APC, would Rep Emmanuel Ukpong Udo be insulting leaders, stakeholders and Party the way he does with less than five thousand votes, which did not come from him but other wards from Ikono? He should be reminded of the risk of slipping into dissonance", he warned.

Politics / Iwok, Others, Fail To Secure Court Order Against Akwa Ibom Pdp Primaries by edikandavid(m): 3:57pm On May 25, 2022
A Federal High Court in Abuja has waved aside calls for the cancellation of the ongoing PDP primaries in Akwa Ibom State.

It has however adjourned to Wednesday, 1st of June, 2022 for further hearing on preliminary objections by the defendants, in a case instituted by a PDP member in Akwa Ibom State, Mr Friday Iwok and 30 others challenging the April 30, 2022 Ward Congress conducted in the State.

The court presided by Justice Obiora Egwatu also urged the parties in the case to avoid delaying the process, but to help the Court accelerate hearing following the limited judicial time frame for pre-election matters.

Appearing on behalf of the the Plaintiffs, Ahmed Raji had argued that the 2nd -331st Defendants, PDP, and its Adhoc Delegates committed a contempt of court by ignoring the Status Quo Bellum order of the court, and urged the court to cancel the outcome of all the primaries which commenced from Sunday May 22nd in Akwa Ibom State.

Counsel Ahmed Raji, argued that “It is contempt by the violators but we are only asking that the court sets aside all actions taken by the defendants after being served with the order of the court.

“If the order to maintain status quo is not obeyed, they will likely not obey the final judgement”, Raji roared.

But Paul Usoro appearing for PDP, 2nd Defendant reasoned that “assuming without conceding, that Ahmed Raji is correct, before the court is the preliminary objection on jurisdiction which PDP filed yesterday challenging the locus standi of the plaintiff and the jurisdiction of the court to entertain the suit.”

He argued that , “Contempt occurs when an order of the court is flouted.

Paul Usoroh reasoned that, “The position of the law is that where a person accused is alleging jurisdiction competence, the jurisdiction should be first decided.

“Without jurisdiction, all the orders from that court is invalid, he said, citing earlier judicial precedents. Based on that, I urge the Court to proceed with the preliminary objections and the substantive suit to determine the matter once and for all.

“We all agree with His Lordship to manage the judicial time and proceed with the substantive matter, as confirmed by Ahmed Raji.

“I personally looked at the order of the court and it was an advice which I believe was well intended by His lordship, but the other parties(the Adhoc delegates) who were same day joined in the matter, were not even given time to articulate their case and I don’t think His lordship would have given an order against such people”.

Paul Usoroh further posited that, “we also appealed the pronouncement (status quo Ante Bellum) in the event that our brother (Counsel to the Plaintiffs)makes the kind of submissions he has just made.

“To manage judicial time, I urge for the preliminary objections to be addressed.”

In his argument, Counsel to the 3rd to 331st respondents, Uwemedimoh Nwoko, adopted the position of the 2nd Defendant and added that the Court had not made any order.

He reminded the court that a restraining order against the Adhoc Delegates was sought four times by the Plaintiffs and the court refused to grant their request.

Nwoko argued that the court only advised parties to behave well by using the legal term Status Quo Ante Bellum.

He said since it was not a restraining order, the Congress of the PDP was held and it was in compliance with the electoral law 2022 as amended, which forbids the court from stopping the primaries and elections.

“We have filed notice of preliminary objections submitted yesterday. We also filed motion for stay of execution, in other to stay on the side of caution.”

Mr Nwoko urged the Court to ignore the call for the cancellation of the primaries and rather focus on the preliminary objections which argues that the plaintiffs had no locus standi to challenge the ward Adhoc Congresses in Akwa Ibom State, having not shown any evidence that they contested for the PDP Adhoc Delegates primaries in the State.

“Someone in this court erroneously published that the court’s Status Quo Ante Bellum advice, was an order stopping the PDP primaries, whereas my lord never made such order. Now everyone in Uyo, from traders, to transporters and business men are now chanting Status Quo Ante Bellum everywhere.

“In fact, Status Quo Ante Bellum now walks on two legs on the streets of Uyo”, Nwoko said, prompting an outburst of laughter from the court.

Attempts by Counsel to Plaintiffs, Ahmed Raji to insist on the contempt appeal was waved aside as the Judge Obiora Egwatu told him that it amounted to asking the court to stop the Primaries.

Raji appealed for more time to study the preliminary objections filed by the defendants which the court accepted following no objections by the counsel defendants.

Earlier, Counsel to the first Defendant, INEC, Mr Abdullaziz Sani had said the practice was to avoid crying more than the bereaved. “I have gone through all the processes served on me, I observed that throughout the bulk of the originating summons documents, the name of the 1st defendant was only mentioned in the 6th paragraph and it merely defined our responsibility. I therefore opt to sit on the fence on the matter.“

During the last sitting, the court had agreed that 329 delegates representing the 987 elected delegates of the PDP be joined in the suit by the Plaintiffs.

Commenting after the sitting, counsel to the plaintiffs Ahmed Raji explained that he got the preliminary objections brief by the defendants very late hence his decision to ask for the adjournment.

Counsel to the 3rd - 331st defendants Uwemedimo Nwoko lauded the court for proceeding to hear the preliminary objections instituted and assured the since Iwok and co were not even aspiring delegates Ab initio, they had no business coming to waste the time of the court.
