Politics / Re: A'ibom: The Ongoing 6.4km Utu Ikot Ekpo(etim Ekpo) -mkpok Eto (ika) Road Project by edikandavid(m): 1:02am On Mar 16, 2022
I can tell you that it is politically motivated. The truth is, most of these are debts and agreements he wasn't party to, and comparing the state allocation now and when those agreements were signed, you will see the difference. He hasn't owed them, they are all backlog debts, and you can't expect him to pay all. The money isn't even there. The first front line charge for the government is over 3bn and all of that.

Politics / A'ibom: The Ongoing 6.4km Utu Ikot Ekpo(etim Ekpo) -mkpok Eto (ika) Road Project by edikandavid(m): 8:56pm On Mar 15, 2022
Today we visited the site of the ongoing construction of 6.4km Utu Ikot Ekpo, Etim Ekpo - Mkpok Eto, Ika Road. Last year, when we went there, the swampy and muddy environment never gave people reasons to believe that the road would ever be completed within the lifespan of Governor Udom Emmanuel's administration.

The asphalting of the road which has reached nearly half of the road, has drawn excitement from several locals who would not believe that their rural forgotten communities could become urbanised in their lifetime.

Some of the elders in the communities, Pa Sunday Alexander Umoh and Elder Etim Akpan Ekpo expressed happiness over the fact that God used Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel to carry out the road construction in the community.

At the current pace the work is going, it is obvious that this road will be completed next month.
The entire length of the road has side drains and it is at the stone base level, while a larger part of it has already been paved with asphalt.

"The Governor has visited our community making a once dark zone now a bright zone. I pray God to bless him and continue to give him the grace to carry out more projects in the State," Pa Akpan Ekpo exclaimed.

The road, links up with the ongoing 15.13km Ikot Esu, Ikot Otomo, Azumini Road that links Ika with Abia State.

It has a spur to Nkwot also in Etim Ekpo local government area.

Politics / Gov Udom Celebrates Women's Day, Pledges To Assent All Rights Of Women Bills by edikandavid(m): 7:18pm On Mar 15, 2022
Governor Udom Emmanuel has assured that all pending bills seeking to promote the rights of Akwa Ibom State women shall immediately be signed into law.

Addressing a large gathering of women during the grand finale of the 2022 International Women's Day celebration at Ibom Hall Grounds in Uyo, the Governor extolled the ingenuity of the state Ministry of Women Affairs, the Family Empowerment and Youth Reorientation Path (FEYReP) Initiative and the entire Akwa Ibom women on their determination and commitment to championing the cause of women in the State.

Reflecting on the theme of the 2022 International Women's Day, "Gender Equality for Sustainable Tomorrow", the State Governor maintained that, "I've just learnt that there are one or two women-related bills that I still need to sign into law. I have asked the Attorney-General that once I leave here they should bring those bills and I'm going to sign all of them".

"I also want to commend Her Excellency, Dr. (Mrs) Martha Udom Emmanuel and her pet project FEYReP, for what they have done, they've made the whole country proud by the way the take care of the women. So I want to use this opportunity to thank most deeply, the great and inspirational work of my wife in reawakening the women through this programme".

On the agitation for 35% inclusion of women in government, the Governor assured that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has put in place a gender friendly template to promote the inclusion of women in the politics and that his administration will continue to create equal opportunity for women. These, he said, include 35% inclusion of women in the party executive across all structures of the party from units to the national and free nomination forms for any woman declaring intention to run for any office on the party’s platform.

Speaking further, Governor Emmanuel appealed to women in the state to pay equal attention to both male and female children in their motherly role, attributing the increase of vices in the society to neglect of the male child in the family especially in terms of vigilance and discipline, promising to pursue a review of the law exempting underage youths from prosecution especially for cases of murder and mayhem on fellows.

He also charged the women on continuous capacity building, self confidence and urged them never to be limited by external forces.

"Please don't limit yourself. You need to believe and be sure that all that you need is all that you have, then you will excel to wherever you want to", he said.

The governor condemned in totality any venture that promotes violence or antisocial tendencies. According to him, politics should be a game of persuasion and not violence hence no Akwa Ibom woman should allow herself to be lured into what is not in the interest of the people of the state.

In support of the empowerment packages for needy women in the state under the auspices of the First Lady Martha Emmanuel's pet project, FEReP, the governor announced additional donation of N62 million to be given to 10 women from each of the 31 Local Government Areas of the state, stressing that 5 from each local government area must be widows.

In her remarks, the wife of the governor, Dr. Mrs. Martha Emmanuel, expressed delight with the support and inclusion enjoyed by women under the administration of her husband, which she described as unprecedented.

Mrs Martha Emmanuel acknowledged that some obnoxious practices enshrined in the culture and traditions of the society have posed serious challenges to women development and create uneven playing against the female gender, in terms of access to opportunities. These, she stated are the barriers and biases Akwa Ibom women seek to break, soliciting the support of the state government in their eradication.

Earlier in the event, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr. Ini Adiakpan, in her welcome speech, hailed the goodwill of Governor Emmanuel in creating a template that protest gender equilibrium and maintaining a governance trajectory that closes the valley between the men and women.

She however pleaded with the governor to expedite action to sign into law the bill concerning persons with disabilities, bill for provision of free and compulsory medical treatment for victims of sexual abuses and other women-related bills already passed by the state legislators, but awaiting Executive assent as well as increase the chances of women in the upcoming National and State Assemblies elections.

Also speaking at the occasion were the Chief Judge of the state, Hon. Justice Ekaette Obot, Professor Valerie Solomon of the University of Uyo, the University of Uyo Chairperson of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Dr. Happiness Uduk and a host of others.

The Council Chairman of Eket Local Government has charged the youths of Eket Senatorial District to key into the succession plan of Governor Udom Emmanuel by supporting Pastor Umo Eno as he guarantees peace and prosperity in the state.

Mr. Tommey disclosed this exclusively to news men when the campaign train of the Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources paid a consultative visit to youths of Eket Senatorial District over the weekend at Kells and Palls Event Center Eket.

"We have solidly been behind Governor Udom Emmanuel since his assumption of office in 2015 and 2019 respectively and now is the time for our youths to key in to his succession plan which is Pastor Umo Eno and I can tell you that the revered Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources guarantees peace and prosperity for our Senatorial District", he said.

Politics / Udom: We Need Strong Partnership With Churches To Fight Against Cultism by edikandavid(m): 8:37pm On Mar 13, 2022
Governor Udom Emmanuel has called for partnership with Churches to assist government in stemming the rate of cult related activities among youths in the State.

Governor Emmanuel made the call on Sunday, during a courtesy visit on him by Redeemed Christian Church of God pastors led by Pastor Idris Enoch in charge of Region 14, at Government House, Uyo.

The governor who lamented the level of moral decadence among youths, said the trend of cult activities in secondary schools could be reduced with the assistance of the leadership of the Church through preaching God's word and instilling Godly morals and values to youths.

The Chief Executive further noted that most crime related activities in the state are connected to cult activities which has ravaged the secondary schools, frowned at persons recruiting youths into the fruitless venture.

" I need the Church to help me on this war against cultism, if we don't do something now, if we don't arise to it now it's going to cause a problem. You can't believe that this week an SS3 student used knife and stabbed an SS2 student because they are in rival cult groups in a secondary school, and how did he go to school with a knife used it to stab another student?"

"Unfortunately for us, we are running free and compulsory education, so these ones perpetuating nefarious activities don't mine sewing a uniform as if they are joining secondary schools, actually they are on evangelism initiating other students.

"If you check every single problem and social vices I am having here stems out of cultism, if you arrest armed robbers one hundred percent of them are of different cult groups, get any of them they are attached to different cult groups.

"I often say if the indoctrination you are giving to these young men ends in violence, killings, in crime, in shedding of blood so you have to think that what you are doing is not right."

Governor Emmanuel, however, appreciated the partnership between the leadership of the Church and government, and welcomed Pastor Idris Enoch of Redeemed Christian Church of God ( RCCG) in charge of Region 14, to the State.

In his remarks, the Pastor Idris Enoch, in charge of Region 14, thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel for a warm reception accorded the team.

Pastor Enoch, commended Governor Emmanuel for the relative peace and security in the state which he emphasized is the bedrock of development and the landmark achievements recorded by the present administration.

"Since we came we have studied situation on ground and our record shows that since you became the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, there has been relative peace and security.

"I want to thank God for your life, if there is anything a nation needs is security of lives and property . This atmosphere explains some of the landmark development you are seeing on ground today in the state. We have also observed that very unusual and uncommonly, your administration has fully brought God into governance which has helped in security", he noted

Politics / A'ibom 2023: What Makes Umo Eno's Aspiration And Campaign Different From Others by edikandavid(m): 1:14pm On Mar 12, 2022
Granted, but not conceding in totality that everyone is qualified for the gubernatorial race, this is true by right of citizenship, but there should be a shift from the normal in each aspirant's team for the campaign processes, there should be something unique and distinct in each teams.

That shift should occur in the area of campaigning of ideals and vision for the State, quality leadership in-view to be provided and development blueprint for the State, not just the normative campaign with handouts, financial inducement and fighting for personal interest without any conviction

There should be conviction that drives our support; supporting a person who can lead the State ideally. There should be a campaign of ideals from each teams, the spread of knowledge and splendour of visions and not the reverse of ignoring a peaceful processes, showing desperation to grab power by all means as a right.

Everybody is fighting for interest and pitching their tent where their interest is protected. Some give support because of the existing relationship they have with aspirant or they do their bosses' bid. Everyone fights for interest.

Very few care about the collective interest and common good of Akwa Ibom State and the leadership needed to drive the common good.

Thinking straight and properly, Pst. Umo Eno if given the opportunity to be the standard flag bearer of our party, will forge and fulfill the ideals of our party PDP and the pursuit of progress, growth and development of our State as enshrined in the constitution of the party.

Besides, Umo Eno is qualified because, he represents prosperity and success. He represents investment and businesses; he has antecedents of these and other aspirants should market their antecedents in business and investment areas. This is what campaign should be, not reviling, casting slurs and uncouth statements that threatens our public confidence. This is why Umo Eno's campaign is distinct.

An investor thinks about protecting his businesses, goods and services. He gives much care on security. But one who has no investment loses no sleep over anything because he has no care.

With Umo Eno in leadership our public confidence is cinch and a thriving society in economy and social welfare is guaranteed.

Politics / 2023: Don't Re-introduce Violence Into Akwa Ibom Politics - Group Warns by edikandavid(m): 11:11pm On Mar 11, 2022
PRESS STATEMENT BY AKWA IBOM INTEGRITY ALLIANCE ON FRIDAY, MARCH 11,2022, OVER THE FALSE AND MISCHIEVOUSLY MISLEADING GOVERNORSHIP MICRO ZONING CAMPAIGNS IN AKWA IBOM STATE AND THE RE-INTRODUCTION OF VIOLENCE INTO AKWA IBOM STATE POLITICS

Gentlemen,
As we approach electioneering season, it is not unusual to see a deployment of strategies by aspirants and political merchants to market their political interests and aspirations to the public. Quite regrettably, the unfortunate scenario in Akwa Ibom State, currently, is that the beautiful venture of politicking has been greatly overshadowed by series of blackmails, vindictive utterances, deliberate falsehood and physical assault by hired teams of some politicians.
Worthy of mention is the physical attack on the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, who was consulting delegates from Ibiono Ibom to solicit their support for his Senatorial District aspiration. We are indeed saddened that in the 21st century, a bunch of sane beings could constitute themselves into nuisance and go around harassing and assaulting innocent persons who do not align with their political views. It is worse that they could go as far as demanding that Hon. Aniekan Bassey the State's Number 3 Citizen, should take off his cap because it carried the imprimatur of his preferred Governorship aspirant, Pastor Umo Eno, not that of their alleged principal, Senator Bassey Albert Akpan. Are these agitators telling us that if Aniekan Bassey had put on a pair of trousers or shirt with the inscription of Umo Eno, they would have stripped him naked before allowing him to consult Ibiono Ibom delegates?
While condemning strongly, the perpetrators of this heinous act of intolerance and violence, we commend the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly for promptly leaving the scene of the event to allow peace to reign, instead of resisting or engaging in a spat with the alleged thugs. We however call on the security agents in the State to take a step further by ensuring that all those fingered in the dastardly act are brought to book promptly.
In recent times, the spate of media outbursts, sensational, misleading and mischievous diatribes by alleged supporters of Senator Bassey Albert, has been alarming. Ordinarily, the outbursts of the non-existent groups would have simply been discarded as a venture of some meddlesome interlopers, but in the interest of unsuspecting members of the public whose innocent and positive minds may be unduly infested and polluted, there is a dire need to correct the quantum of misinformation accordingly.
For example, in their publications, these persons deliberately lie that Akwa Ibom was created on the foundation of six conference districts. They claimed that the six Conference Districts were Ikot Ekpene, Abak, Eket, Ikot Abasi, Itu and Uyo. This conjecture is worrisome as Akwa Ibom State was not created during the colonial era with such outdated political orientations but was created under a Federal system of government. As at the time of the creation in September, 1987 there were 17 Local Government Areas in the old Cross River State, with 10 being the bases for the creation of Akwa Ibom State: Uyo, Etinan, Itu, Ikono, Ikot Abasi, Eket, Oron, Ukanafun, Abak and Ikot Ekpene. These 10 Local Government Areas till date are the pillars of the Ten Federal Constituencies in Akwa Ibom State. Where, at this point, is the idea of Six Conference Districts in Akwa Ibom State? Such an ideology is not only non-existent and completely false, but also misleading and mischievous.

The assertion by the acclaimed Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency governorship advocates that zoning and rotation started in January 1992 during the one year tenure of His Excellency, Obong Akpan Isemin is quite curious. If one avers one’s mind to the fact that Obong Akpan Isemin of Etinan Federal Constituency, had notable contenders to that seat from all parts of the state, one would appreciate the fact that the late governor emerged victorious by the Grace of God, and the popular support of the people, showing clearly that there was nothing like zoning. Do we remember aspirants in the likes of Chief Mfon Amana from Oron, Chief Ekpong Ntak from Uyo, Engr. Udo Mboso from Onna, Sir Sunday Udoakpan from Ikono in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District and several others?

Again, a tenure of office as spelt out in our Constitution is undoubtedly four years. But Obong Akpan Isemin’s tenure was cut short after barely a year. In the spirit of fairness, equity and good conscience, would it not be proper for us to correct that broken history in our time, by having Etinan Federal Constituency complete that disrupted tenure through Pastor Umo Bassey Eno? The truth is that, micro zoning Governorship position, is alien to the Akwa Ibom people, as only senatorial districts are recognized by the party. That is why currently, many aspirants have so far indicated interest from all the three federal constituencies of the Uyo Senatorial District in the PDP. They are Hon Mike Enyong from Uyo federal constituency, Hon Onofiok Luke from Etinan Federal Constituency, Chief Akanimo Udofia from Etinan Federal Constituency, Mr Akan Okon from Itu Federal Constituency, Sen Bassey Albert from Itu Federal Constituency.
Very importantly, it should be noted that occupying the seat of governor is not just about ‘taking a bite’ or sharing in the 'national cake', as presented by most elements who claim to speak for Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency. It is a much more serious business. What can the aspirant bring to the table: what constitute his blueprints and what are his antecedents? How can he ensure that Akwa Ibom remains the peaceful state it has been since 2015? It is rather a shameful ideology, that in the 21st century, some persons in their ignorance could come out to openly appeal for support so that their candidate can take a bite at the office of Governor, because other federal constituencies had taken a bite. The idea that the fate of more than seven million Nigerians, resident in Akwa Ibom State, could be left in the hands of a politician who merely wants to take a bite, leaves so much to be desired.
“He who seeks equity must do equity,” is a natural tenet guiding inter-personal co-existence and goodwill. On this note, have agitators of Itu/Ibiono Ibom 2023 Governorship, examined the culpability of the same Federal Constituency in previous attempts to scuttle the zoning arrangements in the state, by seeking the office of governor in 2007and 2015, at a time it was clearly the turn of Ikot Ekpene and Eket Senatorial Districts, respectively? Incidentally, the same Bassey Albert challenged the zoning arrangements in Akwa Ibom, when he swam against the tide to purchase a Governorship form for this same office against the general consensus that it was the turn of Eket and not his own Senatorial District in 2015. Today his supporters claim he should be rewarded with that seat, for stepping down earlier. Which principle stipulates that once something is retrieved from someone who tried to take it illegally, it must be returned to him? Issues in this question can only be addressed by persons of good conscience and clear objectivity. Incidentally, Bassey Albert, who is presently a senator, has effectively made Ibiono Ibom to hold sway in the Senate for three successive terms, without regards to the zoning formula which would have allowed for only two terms for his constituency in that red chambers. Did he not remember zoning at that time?

Do we need to belabour ourselves with the judiciously and constitutionally sanctioned fact that the Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency has a member of parliament and representative? May we, therefore, remind and/or educate those people that Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Henry Archibong holds the mandate to speak for and on behalf of the good, peaceful and progress-loving people of Itu and Ibiono Ibom, hence, no purported youth leaders have the locus to arrogate such powers on themselves. Are they aware that the Member of Parliament for Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency, Dr. Henry Archibong, has been on the consultation train of Pastor Umo Eno, and by this, has declared the support of his constituents to Pastor Umo Eno's ambition to succeed Governor Udom Emmanuel in the saddle. Is Dr Iniobong Essien, who had previously declared for the Governorship seat, but has since surrendered support to Pastor Umo Eno, not from Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency? The serving state lawmakers of the two local government areas of the federal costituency, Hon. Godwin Ekpo and Hon. Kufre Edidem who are already blazing the support trail of Pastor Umo Eno, do not obviously believe the fake conjectures of those alleged hirelings.
For the avoidance of doubts, the Itu/Ibiono Ibom federal constituency has had a perfect share in the outstanding performance of Governor Udom Emmanuel since 2015. It is host to the Dakkada Composite Industries, housing the Plastic Manufacturing Factory, the Tissue Paper Factory as well as the Pencil and Toothpick factories, Itam, Itu; home of the nearly completed Vehicle Manufacturing and Assembling Factory, Ikot Ukap, Itu, the Dakkada Technical Skills Training College, Ikot Ada Idem, Ibiono Ibom, a low cost housing estate at Ikot Ambang/Ikot Osukpong axis, a Model Schools Sports Complex, West Itam, Itu, and some roads projects. Recently, the State executive council approved that the road to the Mary Slessor General Hospital be rehabilitated while the Hospital itself be remodeled and re-equipped.

His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has shown great concerns for the continuous development of Akwa Ibom State and has conscientiously provided a level playing ground for politicking to bring about leaders who would sustain and build upon the tempo of the all-round advancement of our dear state. As young people and future leaders, keying into this project would serve as a training ground for that leadership tomorrow, instead of bringing to bear retrogressive tendencies.
Our common knowledge that the economies of developing nations across the world are today driven by entrepreneurial development, has led us into believing in Pastor Umo Eno as the best deal for our state in the next dispensation. Beyond sentiments, we challenge those who wish to market their aspirants, to first start by showing us records of business ventures that have afforded our people job opportunities or better still, how their several years in public service have translated into economic opportunities for our people.

Thank you.

Politics / Sen Bassey Albert’s Supporters Assault Akha Speaker For Supporting Umo Eno by edikandavid(m): 10:44am On Mar 10, 2022
Akwa Ibom PDP Governorship Aspirant, Senator Bassey Albert and his supporters have been advised to see politics as a game and not a do or die affair.

Speaker of Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, Hon. Aniekan Bassey stated this following an assault on him by hoodlums loyal to Senator Bassey Albert , during his consultation meeting with PDP delegates from Ibiono Ibom.

The Speaker who is seeking to represent Akwa Ibom North East, Uyo Senatorial District in the Red chambers, took to his personal social media handles where he lambasted the touts loyal to Senator Bassey Albert for exhibiting unruly and uncivilised manners in politics.

It would be recalled that Bassey Albert himself during a campaign rally in Eket last weekend, had charged his supporters with some daring comments, "who born dog, who born dog, who born dog".

The incumbent Senator’s loyalists at Ibiono Ibom in a violent manner, attacked the Speaker who wore a faze cap with an inscription supporting Umo Eno's governorship aspiration, threatening him to remove the cap or leave their domain.

However the intervention of the member representing Ibiono Ibom in the House of Assembly, Hon Godwin Okon and other delegates from the area stopped the hoodlums from inflicting much harm on the State’s Number 3 citizen.

The disappointment in the mind of the Speaker was captured in a post he later made on his Facebook page, condemning the act by the incumbent Senator’s supporters.

Echoing what he said earlier to them, he said, “I went to consult some of the delegates from Ibiono Ibom Local government area for my senate aspiration. They asked that I should remove Umo Eno’s campaign faze cap I was wearing.

“I told them that if their support for me would be based on such condition, then I would rather lose the votes of Ibiono Ibom at the party primary.

“They pleaded that I should remove the cap before going ahead with the consultation, I told them I would rather leave than do that.

“OBA whom they are supporting came to consult me in my house, wore his faze cap and I didn’t ask him to remove his cap.

“Some of my staff are core supporters of the governorship aspiration of Senator Bassey Albert. I have never for once stopped them from supporting their aspirant. I have never for once contemplated stopping their salary or even sacking them.

Politics is not do or die, it should be played with decorum.

The Speaker was reported to have told the Ibiono Ibom people that his support and commitment to the Udom Emmanuel’s Completion Agenda are firm and irrevocable.

“The kind of politics and attitude displayed in Ibiono Ibom today is anti-Akwa Ibom, anti-democracy and anti-development. It is against everything our forebears stood for. But I want to tell the peace-loving people of Akwa Ibom that I will never shift my grounds nor my support for Governor Udom Emmanuel and his succession plan, particularly in his choice of Pastor Umo Eno, no matter the amount of rascality.”

“Political campaigns should be done with decency and not on the basis of rascality. I have resolved to stand on the path of peace, progress, development and unity. I humbly solicit and appeal to lovers of our dear state to also toe this path of peace,” he maintained.

Responding, the member representing Ibiono Ibom State Constituency, Obong Godwin Ekpo, apologized to the Speaker and promised to support him.

According to Obong Ekpo, “Mr. Speaker, I humbly apologize to you and the people of Akwa Ibom State for this show of shame. I want to tell you that the people that disrupted this meeting are not delegates. Be assured that our support and loyalty to Governor Udom's Emmanuel completion agenda and your senatorial aspiration is nonnegotiable.

“On that day, Ibiono Ibom delegates will nominate Pastor Umoh Eno for Governor and Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey for Senate.”

The meeting had in attendance, the Ibiono Ibom PDP Chapter Chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Etim; Councillors; political leaders; statutory delegates across the 11 Wards, among others.

It would be recalled that Governor Udom Emmanuel has since assumption of office in 2015, embargoed cultism, thuggery and other violent behaviours by young people.

In 2011, similar action by political thugs led to the worst carnage ever recorded in Akwa Ibom State's political history, with the lose of lives, arson on public and private properties and general insecurity.

Politics / Arewa People's Assembly Adopts Pastor Umo Eno For 2023, Lauds Governor Emmanuel by edikandavid(m): 10:43pm On Mar 08, 2022
The Governorship aspiration of Akwa State Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources has continued to enjoy widespread support, as the Arewa People's Assembly, a sociocultural organisation for northerners in Akwa Ibom State, Tuesday unanimously endorsed him as their sole candidate.

The chairman of the Arewa People's Assembly, Mr Emmanuel Ogbole, in a meeting held at Samlaw Hotel at Uyo, said the Assembly's decision to adopt Pastor Umo Eno as their sole candidate ahead of the forthcoming elections was informed by his antecedence as a successful businessman.

PRESS STATEMENT BY ASSOCIATION OF EKET SENATORIAL DISTRICT MEDIA PROFESSIONALS ON EPHRAIM INYANG-EYEN’S MACABRE DANCE AND HIS ENDLESS COMICAL THEATRICS OVER 2023 GOVERNORSHIP ELECTIONS IN AKWA IBOM STATE

There's no doubt that our political landscape is filled with all manners of persons, including actors and comedians of clownish hue. Currently in Akwa Ibom State, one of those who have emerged hilarious entertainers wearing the garb of politics is Akparawa Ephraim Inyang- eyen, the sacked Chief of Staff to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State. The latest stage for the performance of his comical craft was Eket, last Saturday, where he displayed his characteristic verbal recklessness and clownish gestures before an audience he rented to prove his political relevance to his friend, Senator Bassey Albert. It's understandable that Akparawa Ephraim Inyang -eyen wants to prove a point after being declared surplus to requirements and given the boot by the Governor.

Ordinarily, we in Association of Eket Senatorial District Media Professionals would have ignored his amusing theatrics but we have a duty to ensure that not even one Akwa Ibom citizen who may not understand the personality of Akparawa Ephraim Inyang-eyen or his craft is misled into giving serious attention to hilarious displays.

The theme of his latest outburst was the need for Akwa Ibom State to reward Senator Bassey Albert's purported sacrifices for the State with the Governorship seat. It couldn't have been more ridiculous and condescending than this. Exactly what sacrifices was the erstwhile Chief of Staff talking about? Between Akwa Ibom State and Senator Bassey Albert, who is indebted to who? This was a young banker without a record of prior political experience, participation and investments who was favoured ahead of numerous more experienced persons by the then Governor, Senator(Dr.) Godswill Akpabio with the juicy position of Commissioner for Finance in 2007. In about seven years of serving as Commissioner, he had amassed so much wealth and became so undeservingly powerful that in 2014, he could hold his boss and benefactor, Chief Godswill Akpabio in the jugular in pursuit of a misguided gubernatorial aspiration against the existing zoning/rotation arrangement in the State.

Ephraim Inyang-eyen should be reminded that Senator Bassey Albert couldn't have stepped down for Governor Udom Emmanuel in a race he was ab initio unqualified to participate in, on account of the zoning/rotation arrangement of the State.

His argument is akin to asking an owner to reward a thief who attempted to forcefully dispossess him of his property. Where is that done? It's noteworthy that while Senator Bassey Albert was on a dangerous voyage to upset the apple cart in 2014, there were people who stood firmly with the Governor to ensure it never happened. Between him who was stopped from messing the zoning arrangement of the State and those who stood solidly behind the then Governor to stop him, who deserve(s) a reward?

It is laughable that Inyang-eyen has the temerity to advocate compensation or reward for a man who should, in a normal circumstance be reprimanded for being contemptuous of the State in 2014 and greedy against of Uyo Federal Constituency in 2019. Incidentally, for contemptuously and immorally threatening to disrupt the zoning arrangement which helps to unite the State, the leadership of the Party was arm twisted to sacrifice Senator Ita Enang’s second term for him. His inordinate bid for, and successful reelection in 2019 disrupted the rotation of the Uyo Senatorial District seat, the major cause of the problems in that District ahead of the upcoming elections.

There's no doubt that Senator Bassey Albert has benefitted serially and enormously from the game of brinkmanship, rebellion and breach of agreement. In other words, his compensation for withdrawing from the illicit gubernatorial race in 2014 was the undeserved Senatorial Seat he still occupies. We all know the controversies and avoidable litigations which trailed the late decision to assuage one man's greed for power in 2014. For supporting the Governor and the Party in 2019, he was unduly rewarded with re-election when his federal constituency had completed its second term in the Senate.

Needless to say that if Senator Bassey Albert had jumped ship like the other two Senators, he would also have drowned with them. Keeping faith with the Party was in his interest as he's still a serving Senator while the other two are former Senators. Is that not enough compensation?

It's preposterous to argue that Senator Bassey Albert should be compensated with the governorship seat for supporting the Governor in 2019. Who among the gubernatorial aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) didn't support the Governor? Ephraim Inyang-eyen even sounded more ridiculously comical when he told his hired audience that they need a Governor who has relationship with the people of Eket Senatorial District. Between Pastor Umo Eno who has been living and investing in Eket Senatorial District in the past thirty years and Senator Bassey Albert who neither lives nor invests in the area, who can be said to have a relationship with them?

Or need we remind him that Pastor Umo Eno is an inlaw in Eket Senatorial District, with his lovely wife from Mkpat Enin? Pastor Umo Eno is a highly successful entrepreneur who has invested massively in the State and created several direct and indirect jobs for the people.

Which contribution is more valuable than job creation? Who knows and remembers people as someone who has been putting food on their tables by offering them jobs from his sweat? It's unfortunate that Ephraim Inyang- eyen sees governance from the narrow and unproductive prism of endless amassment of wealth by the functionaries wherein they occasionally drop crumbs for the people. But the Umo Eno philosophy is to empower our youths and women to be self-reliant, not perpetual dependants on handouts and tokunbo vehicles from politicians. If indeed, God has revealed to Akparawa Ephraim Inyang- eyen that his co-traveller, Senator Bassey Albert will be the next Governor of Akwa Ibom State, why then is he sounding so frustrated with mere human beings who have withheld their support from him?

Of course, every right thinking person knows the claim of divine revelation is part of Mr Inyang Eyen's comical theatrics and thoughtless outbursts. In any case, Senator Albert's characteristic chants of "Who born dog" and veiled threats at the event represents an early vindication of the decision of His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel and other well meaning stakeholders to raise the governorship of the State beyond the pedestrian level of "anything goes". That wisdom located Pastor Umo Eno, a gentleman par excellence and a man of decency, discipline, industry, truth, knowledge and humility.

Considering his antecedence, achievements, experience, training, values, calling and disposition, Pastor Umo Eno's governorship will guarantee Akwa Ibom State peace, stability and prosperity. No sensible State will sacrifice that for another potential drift into an orgy of violence, squander-mania, circus show and waste of public funds in the name of governance. The remarkable gains recorded by the present administration cannot be left to ruin by a return to the Egyptian era when we slept with one eye open.Akwa Ibom State owes Senator Bassey Albert nothing more after making him the wealthiest Commissioner in its history and a two term Senator. He has already taken more than his fair share and should be grateful for it.

Signed

Politics / I Was In Bondage, Now I Am Free - Ephraim Inyang Explodes by edikandavid(m): 9:46am On Mar 04, 2022
Fresh from his sack from the Akwa Ibom State Executive council, former Chief of Staff to the Governor Mr Ephraim Inyangeyen says his sack amounts to freedom from bondage.

Speaking at his country home in Ikot Ebiere, ONNA, over the weekend during a night worship service he organized, Mr Inyangeyen said he was pleased to be liberated, ‘through the sack’.

Apparently referring to the unfortunate axe days earlier, the former Works Commissioner told the congregation that he “went to the battlefield and came back alive”, hence the need to thank God.

He told his followers, in a video that was streamed live on his social media handle, that what was seen by many as a disaster, was indeed a blessing to him.

Mr Inyangeyen who for a while had allegedly disagreed with his principal on the choice of a successor, also used the forum to announce his sack as a temporary setback which will soon be be over.
“It is only the will of man and it cannot stand, but the will of God will prevail”, Inyangeyen roared.

“I came out this evening to thank God for setting me free from bondage. Help me thank God this night for setting me free indeed to worship my God the way I know.”

Without mentioning any name, Ephraim Inyang is heard echoing in the video, “Your time is up, your days are numbered for God is coming to judgement.“

Our investigation reveals that Inyangeyen’s bondage may have actually meant the freedom to openly profess his political disloyalty to his boss.

While in the employ of Mr Udom Emmanuel, Ephraim is alleged to have secured the services of some paid writers to discredit the succession plan of his principal.

He was also believed to be secretly supporting Senator Bassey Albert’s governorship aspiration against the intention of his boss, who prefers Pastor Umo Eno.

The last straw that finally broke his back, came during his series of consultations. First, he was said to have told the Paramount Ruler of Onna,Edidem Raymond Inyang, that he was ready to wrestle and get the senate seat for Eket senatorial district.

Obviously taking a swipe at Pastor Umo Eno who was declared as preferred successor by Governor Emmanuel, Ephraim told Edidem Inyang that no one anointed him for the senate seat but as a real Onna son, he was ready to fight everyone and take the mandate for the senatorial district.

In his alleged desire to scuttle the zoning arrangements in Eket Senatorial District, Ephraim moved against Ikot Abasi federal constituency that was expected to produce to the next senator in 2023.

He also went on to show disdain to his employer during his consultation with some elders from his clan by allegedly pushing blame on Governor Emmanuel and his Accountant General Pastor Andrew Essien.

The comment spark uproar from several quarters, notably the youths, some journalists and kinsmen from Ephraim’s local government area, who all called for his resignation and apologies to the Governor.

He desire to hang on despite not supporting his boss’ programme, was however cut short, Tuesday penultimate week, when a letter from the Secretary to the State Government, declared him surplus to requirement in government.

The letter specifically announced that, “the need to urgent match to match skill set and competencies to the task of maintaining the momentum of economic development in peace, your services are no longer required…”

The February 22, 2022 letter from Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem, drew the curtains on what many believe was an era where blackmail, betrayal, disloyalty and ingratitude walked on two legs around the state’s seat of government.

Politics / 2023: Akwa Ibom Youths Need More by edikandavid(m): 1:46pm On Mar 03, 2022
"I will never stop questioning. I will never stop wanting more and discovering other things and wanting to do other things. That will always be a part of me, and it's something I've come to terms with" (David Hallberg).

The quotation above reflects the personality of Pst. Umo Eno, the Governorship front-runner of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) who has already received statewide endorsement from stakeholders of the party, religious and traditional leaders.

In a recent consultation with chairmen of the 31 Local Government Areas of the state, he categorically stated that Akwa Ibom youths need more jobs, more empowerment and more opportunities.

As a successful entrepreneur, he has done more for the state through his group of companies and can never be satisfied with his achievements since there is still room for more. He is not like Alexander the Great who cried "There's no more worlds to conquer", when there were many other worlds not yet discovered.

Man is an insatiable being. That is why some people are not satisfied with their level of education, and strive for more, even to PhD. Others continue to expand their businesses even beyond national frontier. Founders of churches keep establishing more branches, even as God the creator of mankind seeks to expand the kingdom of His son on earth, stating that the gospel shall be preached unto the uttermost part of the world.

Pst. Umo Eno seeing His Excellency the governor taking the youths from the streets and providing a brighter future through various youths intervention programmes as well as the Dakkada initiative, has aligned his determination to do more for the youths.

In the present administration, more youths have been trained in various skills, empowered financially to start up their businesses, and given several training on farming, among others.

The MEGP empowerment programmes for the youths organised by the Directorate of Marketing and Brand Management is one youth empowerment programme that has impacted positively on Akwa Ibom youths.

What about the youth project from the Ministry of Trade and Investment? Or the training and empowerment by the Ministry of Agriculture? The list is endless.

Despite the aforementioned, Akwa Ibom youths still need these programmes. Is Pst. Umo Eno determined to do more? The answer is a capital Yes.

He has employed many youths in his private establishments, his boss the Governor is doing same, hence his determination to do more, because the youths need more.

Nairaland / General / Prof Ibanga: Cleaning The Mess Of A Garrulous Predecessor by edikandavid(m): 8:32am On Mar 02, 2022
The relative calm in the air and much progress recorded in Governor Udom Emmanuel's infrastructural expansion and Completion Agenda shows that the commissioner holding sway in that area is a study in scarlet.

Everyone knows that Governor Emmanuel means well for the state. The blind can see that the governor has a transparent heart to bring developments to this state.

This was the first time a governor is ensuring that infrastructural development comes to all parts of the state simultaneously. That vision is now finding expression through the instrumentality of the Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Prof. Eno Ibanga.

At first, some people thought that adding the title of Fire service to his designation was a mistake, but with the pace of work and progress being recorded, it can be deduced that the governor wanted him to use the fire brigade approach to actualise his vision of total facelift of capital infrastructure in the state.

For over 5 years of his tenure, it was quite clear how , hues, cries, petitions, traditional injunctions, litigations marred the progress and execution of some of the road projects in the state. A case at hand is the Dualised Uyo-Ikot Ekpene road where the governor openly confessed that over 20 court cases by property owners had stalled the progress of work. The work however was accomplished by the State Government and commissioned by the Senate President, Senator Ahmed Lawan last September. Most gigantic road projects are now being completed as well, and noiselessly.

The story of infrastructural development is totally different since the arrival of Prof. Eno Ibanga, a former Vice Chancellor of the Akwa Ibom State University. It is believed that his appointment came at the right time to clean the mess left behind by his predecessor, Mr Ephraim Inyang.

The mess included by-passing estate valuers in the compensation plan for property owners, poor job quality and slow pace of work. Mr Inyangeyen's unguarded utterances brought more fury into the atmosphere. Blaming youths in Oruk Anam for artificial rains, bringing the government to disrepute by blaming elders of some communities of demanding bribes and speaking from both sides of their mouths etc. It is not surprising that he would later even throw the blame on the Governor to exonerate himself.

Gladly, the mess is being cleaned up gradually, the story is different as work is on going at most abandoned projects sites like at Oruk Anam, the Ikot Okoro- Ikot Ibritam road, the pace of work is encouraging, at Ika - Etim Ekpo. The same can be said of Ukanafun, with communities like Ikot Oku Osung, Afaha Ikot Ebak and others getting new roads. The Etinan-Ndon Eyo road, Eket- Etinan road, are not left out. The road from Uyo to the Akwa Ibom State owned Airport, is being expanded steadily and without any noise. Breaking down all those houses from the heavily built up areas on Uyo to Airport road, without any protest by landlords, attest to Prof Ibanga's recent comment that Government must have a human face.

The Urban renewal project at Eket is no longer attracting concerns on radio stations because compensations are now being paid duly through accredited valuers and work is progressing at jet speed from Atabong to Liverpool Roundabout, Grace Bill Roundabout and the previously contentious Idua Road .

With the turn of things, people now remove their valuables and demolish their properties themselves, having enough time after getting paid for their properties that have infringed on the right of way, an act which shows that they are pleased with the Government of the day and its attitude towards property owners.

It is obvious that those who were having field days filing court papers, were not anti development, as the former Commissioner for Works, Mr Inyangeyen used to allege. Funnily, same man who couldn't carry out his assignments efficiently, wants to contest for the position of senator to represent a zone he disappointed during his tenure as commissioner.

Politics / 2023: Umo Eno Will Take Obot Akara, Akwa Ibom To Enviable Heights - Enoidem by edikandavid(m): 1:57pm On Mar 01, 2022
It was a marriage of the present with the future as the leading aspirant to the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District Seat, Barr Emmanuel Enoidem, eulogised the incumbent, Senator Chris Ekpenyong describing him as a trail blazer, who has set the pace in politics in the Senatorial District.

Barr Enoidem, whose senatorial ambition has already secured the endorsement of stakeholders in his senatorial district, has assured Ekpenyong, a former deputy Governor of the state, that Pastor Umo Eno has all it takes to create job opportunities and further develop on the numerous achievements of Governor Udom Emmanuel in Obot Akara and the entire state.

"Pastor Umo Eno has shown that he has what it takes to create and sustain wealth through his numerous achievements in the private and public sector, and I want to assure you that he will create more opportunities that will enable more of our youths to be taken off the streets," Enoidem added.

He said he has implicit confidence in Senator Ekpenyong as a man who stands by what he says and does not waiver in his convictions.

"If Senator Ekpenyong supports you, he won't relax in his house, he will protect the mandate, all the way to INEC office."

He said further that Pastor Eno was an embodiment of peace and a steward in God's vineyard, and would ensure that the peace and security in the state, is maintained to enable more investors to be attracted to the state.

Politics / A’ibom 2023: Group Knocks Senator Albert Over Attacks On Governor Emmanuel by edikandavid(m): 10:52am On Feb 28, 2022
The member representing Uyo Senatorial District in the National Assembly has been warned by a group under the auspices of Eket Senatorial District Media Professionals in an attempt to put an end to what they described as persistent falsehood, blackmail, and inaccurate data presentation by the lawmaker and associates.

In a statement made available to nowupdateonline.com.ng and signed by the chairman of the forum, Mr Jeremiah Edoho, the group noted that the misguided, unfounded allegations, and disparaging remarks being hurled against the Akwa Ibom State Governor, His Excellency, Mr Udom Emmanuel, by the Senator representing Uyo Senatorial District, Senator Bassey Albert Akpan was received with great shock.

“We have observed with rude shock, the persistent falsehood, blackmail, inaccurate data presentation, misguided and unfounded allegations, and disparaging remarks being hurled against the Akwa Ibom State Governor, His Excellency, Mr Udom Emmanuel, by the Senator representing Uyo Senatorial District, Senator Bassey Albert Akpan. Writing under sundry fake names, nonexistent groups and published on the media by his Personal Assistant on Media, Anny Michaels, Senator Albert constantly misinforms the general public on political issues and governance, with malevolent intent of spiting and ridiculing the Governor before the people of the state.”

” It would have been ignored for lack of credibility, but it appears the industry of politics of insults and biles during election years seems to be assuming skyrocketing proportions, and it is most worrisome, coming from a Senator who has been a major beneficiary of the benevolence of the Government of Akwa Ibom State, for 16 uninterrupted years.”

” Allowing the general public to consume these tissues of lies without challenging its veracity, can lead to the generation of bad blood among the people, therefore creating unnecessary tension that will fight the peace preached and enjoyed across the state since the inception of the Udom Emmanuel led administration.”

“It is worthy to say with a point of emphasis that there is no democracy; even in saner climes that incumbents aren’t interested in who succeeds them”
Mr
“As we have clearly stated, OBA does not have any rationalisation to assume that it is the exclusive rights of his Federal Constituency, Itu/Ibiono, to produce a successor for Governor Emmanuel in 2023. It has been argued in several fora that zoning of Governorship seats began in 1999 under the Peoples Democratic Party leadership, therefore it remains inadmissible to construe that those who served as Governors for few months decades ago, and long before zoning became effective, should be added to the list of those who enjoyed zoning. Etinan Federal Constituency has never produced a Governor in this current dispensation since PDP came into existence in 1998. Neither can the 17 months that Akpan Isemin ruled under NRC from 1992-1993, be classified as a tenure by any justifiable indices. Should this be the case, then how about considering late Navy Captain Edet Akpan Archibong of Itu/Ibiono Federal Constituency, who was Governor of old Cross River State in 1984?”

Politics / Udom’s Support For Umo Eno, Not A Mark Of Dictatorship – Ex Minister by edikandavid(m): 7:21pm On Feb 15, 2022
A former Minister of Lands and Housing, Chief Nduese Essien, says ‘the ongoing vilification” of Governor Udom Emmanuel by aggrieved aspirants was unwarranted, despite the Governor’s open support to his Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources, Pastor Umo Eno for the 2023 Governorship position in the State.

He says Governor Emmanuel has the inalienable right to make a choice as an individual and more so, as a sitting Governor of the state.

In a press briefing held, Tuesday at his Shelter Afrique residence in Uyo, Chief Essien who is also the Political leader of Eket Senatorial district, and a former member of the Federal House of Representatives, Abuja, observed with dismay how the media has been awash with commentaries, insults and ‘all sorts of propaganda’ from those not favoured by the Governor’s position.

Chief Essien maintained that the Governor’s choice before the primary election is not the final position in the election, saying all other aspirants and their supporters still have an option of either accepting the Governor’s choice or continue to press their luck to be chosen at the next level.

Politics / Akwa Ibom 2023: And Governor Emmanuel Waited On God For A Gift (eno) by edikandavid(m): 10:05am On Feb 10, 2022
Waiting on God is a rewarding spiritual assignment that many have ignored, but it is what gives birth to a new level in a man’s life. The Bible is repletes with direct admonitions from God that His people should always wait on Him.

Beyond the prophecy of Isaiah that they that wait upon the Lord, God shall renew their strength, Jesus expressly instructed His disciples to wait in the upper room till they are imbued with power(Holy Ghost) from heaven. If it were not significant, Jesus would not have insisted that they wait. The result as you know was incontestable.

By the same token, His Excellency the governor of Akwa Ibom state, Mr Udom Emmanuel waited on God for His leading. Many saw the days of waiting as political tactics, some said he was confused, some assumed he was under pressure and would make the worst mistake of his lifetime. But they were all wrong. He was waiting on God. At the end of the waiting, God answered and gave Akwa Ibom people a Gift(Eno). Indeed, the gift of Umo Eno is worth the wait.

Politics / A'ibom North East Senatorial District 2023: Usenobong, Our Conscience And Us by edikandavid(m): 7:29pm On Feb 09, 2022
History is the memory of human group experience, if it is forgotten or ignored, we cease in that measure to be human. Without history, we have no knowledge of who we are or how we came to be, like victims of collective amnesia groping in the dark for our identity. It is events recorded in history that have generated all the emotions, the values, the ideals, that make life meaningful, that have given men something to live for, struggle over, die for. Historical events have created all the basic human groupings – countries, states, religions, classes – and the loyalties that attach to these.

When God from the womb of mystery was born in the time and time and time uncertain, truth was His water, food, and the air He breathed. Truth is as old as God Himself, no one yet alive can stand his wisdom nor be blunt enough to dare his gut; but he who worships on his Temple of justice He gives the audacity to say the truth unhindered. He has a way of making a man audaciously blunt.

Beginning the year with conscience and resolving to follow its direction in everything we do would be the most valuable choice and edifying decision of our life in the year 2022. It would be the most fruitful and profitable electioneering season for the people of Uyo Federal Constituency and Uruan LGA to be precise for all classes of people in our senatorial district. It would be the most sacred, noble, humanistic and humanitarian act for all.

As the countdowns to 2023 is ticking off and inching near, individuals are already looking ahead for a new outing and glorious experience for their lives with thoughts of new plans and dreams for the imminent year. But if I may ask, What does the future holds for Usenobong Akpabio? Would he be denied for the third time the PDP ticket for Uyo senatorial district?

Usenobong's situation in the senatorial race is sympathetic. Deeply so! The funniest of it is that no body wants to pause and give conscience a purpose. This sad development is because in our society nobody seems to give conscience a reason in life. Many are driven by their naked ambitions, materialistic promptings and desires of the society that often have no courtesy, no patience, no lexicon for conscience in their dictionaries and science.

When Usenobong Akpabio consulted me and some stakeholders of Nsit Ubium in my country home, Ikot Ekwere-Ubium. While listening to his lofty statements and plans for Uyo senatorial district, I wished our stakeholders would give their conscience a chance by zoning the senate seat to Uruan LGA and supporting Usenobong Akpabio for the position. Usenobong is grounded, he has what it takes to lead. He is humble, trust worthy, and transparent.

And my advise is that; the decadence, crisis and misery awaiting to plaguing PDP Uyo Senatorial District in 2023 can be halted if authorities, politicians and strategic stakeholders in Uyo senatorial district give heed to their conscience and zone the senatorial seat to Uyo Federal Constituency and Uruan LGA to be precise. And the most opportune and auspicious moment and time to do that is now.

Idongesit Nyong Philips writes from Ikot Ekwere-Ubium, Nsit Ubium LGA.

Politics / Umo Eno 2023: The Prevailing Hand Of Justice And Equity by edikandavid(m): 9:28am On Feb 09, 2022
Justice is a term used for what is right or what should be. It is one of God’s attributes which flows out of His holiness, and one of his cardinal recommendations to his children from biblical days. We all want justice and equity to prevail on our side and so, one can say that Justice is doing the right thing at the right time, while equity is doing to others what you want them to do to you.

When narrowed to Akwa Ibom State, we see that fairness and equity are two elements which are wrongly interpreted in the dispensation of political justice. A lot of persons clamour for fairness and equity but cry foul when they are asked to allow others have a dose of same. They bring up variables such as experience, expertise and what have you; forgetting that God does not choose the qualified – he qualifies the chosen!

In the Bible, when God was looking for a King for the children of Israel in the house of Jesse, He didn't go for the first son or the experienced; rather he went for the last which was David. Perhaps, people questioned God’s choice of David but it could not have changed anything. That symbolic choice was just an illustration to prove that God was searching the heart not the height or physical features. God was looking for a man who would plead the cause of His people; one who would always obey Him and not institutionalize evil practices such as idolatry, cultism etc which was the practice in those days and David fitted in that desire.

In Akwa Ibom State, one who fits the desire of righteousness has been unveiled to the State Chief Executive, and he has preferred and presented this choice to Akwa Ibom people; a man who has not been found wanting in anyway, very humble, committed and has the concern of the people at heart. He is indeed a man who will obey God and sustain the peace and development we are currently enjoying.

He is Pastor Umo Eno.

Politics / A'ibom 2023: Stop Deceiving People With Your Skewed Zoning Views - Group Warns by edikandavid(m): 12:01pm On Feb 08, 2022
A socio-political group, Akwa Ibom Interest Movement has faulted a section of the political stakeholders in Itu Ibiono federal constituency for insisting that the Governorship seat be exclusively zoned to them.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Uyo, the group said the communique purportely issued by the Itu-ibiono Ibom stakeholders was a skewed and misinformed narratives to justify a predetermined motive geared towards some over-ambitious aspirants.

According to the statement " at no time in the history of Akwa Ibom state was it agreed that the office of the Governor of our dear State, be rotated based on local government areas or Divisions or federal constituencies level and challenged any group or individual with contrary views to bring same to the public domain and rebut this irrebutable fact."

The group noted that while it recognizes the fact the people of Itu and Ibiono Ibom local government areas have the inalienable right to their opinions as guaranteed by section 39 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended, such opinion should be devoid of misinformation, deliberate falsehood targeted at ostracizing other political entities for any selfish gains as displayed and expressed in the said communiqué.

The statement recalled that in the resolution reached by stakeholders in the botched 3rd republic, it was clear that Uyo senatorial district was given the preference to take the first shot at the governorship of the state in 1991 based on its demography of being entirely Ibibio land and also being the district hosting the state headquarters.

The statement stated further that "after the tenure of Obong Akpan Isemin of Etinan Federal Constituency was cut short on 17th day of November, 1993 and the return to democracy in 1999, for peace, equity and good conscience of our dear State, stakeholders met and agreed that Uyo Senatorial District should commence and complete her tenure and this led to their prevailing on the likes of Mr. Benji Okoko from Eket Senatorial District to step down for Arc. Obong Victor Attah from Ibesikpo Asutan local government area in Uyo Senatorial district complete the turn of Uyo senatorial district."

"It is worthy to note that if the intention of the forebears was to rotate the governorship on federal constituency level, someone from either Etinan Federal Constituency would have taken the slot and not Obong Attah of Uyo Federal Constituency.

"That on the basis of that arrangements, when the governorship moved to Ikot Ekpene senatorial district in 2007, Chief Godswill Akpabio from Essien Udim became the governor not on the plank of federal constituency but on the basis of Ikot Ekpene or Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial district."

The group further reminded the current Itu/Ibiono Ibom stakeholders that in 2015 when as a matter of equity, justice and fairness, the governorship was zoned to Eket Senatorial District, some political elements in Uyo Senatorial District, including Obong Bassey Albert, the modern day architect and preacher of justice and equity also contested against that arrangements.

"It is on record that Mr. Umana Umana who contested the 2015 election on the platform of the APC and pursued that case to the Supreme Court was not from Itu / Ibiono Ibom federal constituency rather from Etinan / Nsit Ubium / Nsit Ibom federal constituency.

"We make bold to say that while the zoning of 2023 governorship position is in favour of Uyo senatorial district, it is however disingenuous and undemocratic to further micro zone the governorship to just two local government areas and shut out the remaining seven local government areas of the senatorial district in particular and 29 LGAs of the state at large.

"That it leaves a sour taste and amounts to a futile attempt to rewrite history, that a group of people in pursuit of their inordinate ambition to produce a governor in 2023, will claim that Akwa Ibom State is founded on 6 divisions, deliberately excluding the five local government areas of Oro nation and the Obolos, when the truth remains that as at 1987, when Akwa Ibom State was created, it was based on local government and as at 1992, the federal constituencies and senatorial districts in the state have been constitutionally recognized", it stated.

The group declared its stand with His Excellency, Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel on his completion agenda and choice of successor.

It further urged every lover of peace in Akwa Ibom to support the sustenance of the prevailing peace in the state anchored by Governor Emmanuel's administration before, during and after the elections and beyond.
