RE: GUNMEN KILL NYSC MEMBER IN YENAGOA OVER MOBILE PHONE, CASH The attention of the NYSC Management has been drawn to a news story published by some online newspapers with the above headline about the killing of one, Mr. Samuel Collins, by gunmen suspected to be cultists in Bayelsa State. Management wishes to state that, contrary to the impression created in the report, the deceased was not a Corps member. A search through our records in Bayelsa State showed no such name as Samuel Collins on the list of serving Corps members. For the avoidance of doubt, Police in the state have identified the victim as trainee staff of a Yenagoa-based agency. While sympathizing with the bereaved family, we take exception to the misrepresentation of facts in that report, which is capable of sensationalizing the issue of safety and general welfare of our Corps members. Management urges Corps members serving in Bayelsa State as well as their parents and guardians to remain calm as we remain committed to working with relevant stakeholders to ensure their continued safety. Signed: Management |
RIP to the dead. He was sick before going for NYSC that is why NYSC redeployed back to His parents for proper treatment. You don't blackmail a reputable institution like NYSC for selfish purpose. |
Fake news. I'm in NYSC plateau camp now. Nothing like that happened. |
NYSC is the best thing that happened to Nigeria since 1973. Majority of people who criticise the NYSC do not have opportunity to serve or serve BUT failed to internalise the ideals of the scheme. NYSC, like any other establishment has it challenges, and no amount of social media campaign will destroy it. As youths we must respect our national institutions, work towards strengthening it. We must learn to verify the authenticity of stories before we offer destructive comments. NYSC camp is not NYSC campus or NYSC luxury hotel. |
