We are in the 21st century. As educators, we should equip ourselves with the best teaching and learning skills in order to produce the desired results in our students. We can’t afford to remain stagnant. We can’t continue with outdated teaching techniques and expect the best results from our students. Lesson delivery has evolved. We now have far better teaching techniques compared to what we used to have in the past. Unfortunately, many teachers around the world are still not aware of these very effective teaching techniques. Some are aware but are incapacitated by the schools or the environments they find themselves. For those of us who are still not aware of these very effective teaching techniques, it’s quite unfortunate that it’s our students that suffer the consequences of our lack of exposure to the modern lesson delivery techniques. We inadvertently contribute to poor academic performances of our students. To solve this problem, this is why I came up with this book. The contents of the book are from my several years of experience in teaching. They are research-based. The book is very important especially for educators in nursery, primary and secondary schools. This is a new Physics textbook titled “Calculations in Physics for College Students – Volume 2” for Science students. It is majorly for Year 10 (SS1) to Year 12 (SS3) students. As the title suggests, the book contains strictly calculations in Physics for college students. The book covers calculations in WAEC’s current senior secondary school Physics curriculum, calculations in all JAMB’s topics required for UTME, calculations in some Cambridge IGCSE topics, calculations in NECO’s entire current Physics curriculum and calculations in few Edexcel IGCSE topics. All the relevant formulas needed for as WAEC’s Physics curriculum, NECO’s Physics curriculum, JAMB’s Physics curriculum for UTME and Cambridge IGCSE Physics curriculum are included in the book. This Volume 2 contains calculations in the following topics: Machines, Pressure in Fluids, The Gas Laws, Waves and Applications, Sound Waves, Linear, Area and Cubic Expansivities, Temperature and Its Measurement, Measurement of Heat Energy, Current Electricity and Capacitors. In every topic in each chapter of the book, all possible calculations a student is likely to come across are solved as examples with detailed explanations. US snake carrying pastor, Cody Coots had been fatally bitten by rattle snakes on two different occasions. He nearly lost his life on those two occasions. Thanks to doctors for saving his life. Yet, he has refused to give up carrying deadly snakes.

According to WHO List of essential medicines, safe and effective antivenoms should be part of any primary health care package where snake bites. Unfortunately, how many of our main hospitals, both public and private where snake bites in this part of the world, have access to effective antivenoms, not to talk of primary health care package where snake bites are recorded? Snake bite crisis is a serious crisis in this part of the world. For those of us who live in an area where snake bites are experienced by people in Sub-Saharan Africa, we need to be more careful. Snake bite, as simple as it is to handle, could mean a death sentence! We need to ensure our surrounding is clean and devoid of bushes that can attract or harbour snakes. Governments in Sub-Saharan Africa should also look into how they will provide safe and effective antivenoms to hospitals and primary health care where snake bites are recorded. www.edmaths.com |
