5. Bad Roads: Poor road conditions has actually led to the deaths of a lot of passengers and drivers. Although, if a road is bad, a very careful driver would still drive through the road safely without an accident. The politicians who collect money for road repair/construction and embezzle the money have the deaths of the victims on their necks.

4. Being distracted while driving: A distracted driver is a motorist whose attention is diverted from the road and his/her driving. Some of the things that cause distractions while driving include: making phone calls, sending a text message, eating food, drinking, thinking about something else while driving, watching dramas on the road while driving, etc. According to United States Department of Transportation, distracted driving claimed 3,166 lives in 2017 alone. So, please pay attention while driving.

3. Sleeping while driving: This sounds ridiculous. However, it’s true. Many drivers doze off while driving. This is very dangerous! A lot of passengers have been killed as a result of their drivers dozing off while driving. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that drowsy driving was responsible for 72,000 crashes, 44,000 injuries, and 800 deaths in 2013. If you’re a driver who sleeps while driving, you’re a potential killer! If you’re tired or feeling sleepy, please don’t drive! You need to consider the lives of other road users.

2. Over-speeding: Many drivers over-speed. They speed more than the required speed limit. They ignore the speed limit and drive 20, 30 and sometimes 80 km/h over the speed limit. Traveling above the required speed limit can cause accident. For the government to have arrived at a particular speed limit, they have their safety reasons. Know that the faster you drive, the slower will be your reaction time if you need to prevent an accident. In 2007, 39% of 15 to 20-year-old male drivers involved in fatal crashes were speeding. (Traffic Safety Facts, 2007 Data). If you’re a driver who overspeeds, you’re a potential killer!

Some of the ways through which the drivers cause accidents on our roads are as follows:

Drunk Driving: Many drivers drink alcohol and get intoxicated just before or while driving. For instance, in the mid 1970s, alcohol was a factor in over 60% of traffic fatalities. Today alcohol is involved in 37% of all traffic deaths among persons aged 16 to 20. (NIH Report – Alcohol Related Traffic Deaths). In early 2018 on one Sunday morning, in Lekki area of Lagos State, Nigeria, a man was coming back from club in his jeep. He was terribly drunk and was driving on top speed. He rammed his jeep into a passengers bus killing virtually all the passengers in the bus! If you’re a driver and drink alcohol, you’re a potential killer!

Car Talk / Causes Of Motor Accidents On The Road by Edmaths: 4:07pm On Apr 12, 2019
Automobiles e.g cars, buses, trailers, motorcycles, etc have killed millions of people since their inceptions. They have injured/paralysed millions of people as well. They have created grief and sorrow in so many families. They have killed many innocent children many of whom could have been doctors, lawyers, engineers, accountant, architects, governors, presidents, etc. They have rendered many women widows.

According to WHO Global Status Report on Road Safety 2017, road crashes kill approximately 1.25 million people every year worldwide and between 20 and 50 million sustain non-fatal injuries.
In Nigeria, according to the National Bureau of Statistics, the number of lives lost to road traffic accidents from January 2013 to June 2018 are as follows:

2013 – 5,539 deaths; 2014 – 4,430 deaths; 2015 – 5,400 deaths; 2016 – 5,053 deaths; 2017 – 5,049 deaths; January to June, 2018 – 2,623 deaths.

In USA, the National Safety Council estimated that 40,100 people were killed in 2017 accidents. NHTSA estimated that car accidents killed 37,461 people in 2016.

In India, road crashes caused 1,050,935 deaths in 2016, and 1,046,377 deaths in 2017. (Times of India).

But, ……. the automobiles are just machines. They are inanimate objects. How would they have killed so many people?

In actual sense, automobiles kill nobody. Something that is inanimate cannot kill. Guess who are responsible for the millions of deaths on our roads! The main people who are responsible these deaths and injuries on our roads are the drivers. They are the ones responsible for the killings and maimings on our roads. They are the ones operating the beasts. If the drivers are very careful, no matter the nature of the conditions they find themselves while driving, accidents could be avoided.

Sports / 2018 FIFA World's Best Award, C. Ronaldo And The Grand Conspiracy Against Him by Edmaths: 12:20am On Mar 13, 2019
Truth would always prevail no matter how long it lasts!

The world knows that Cristiano Ronaldo was the rightful owner 2018 World's Best Award even to the blind. Out of envy, some cabals from Real Madrid connived with the those voting and giving the award to deprive Ronaldo of the award. They gave the award to Lucas Modric. Even Modric himself knows Ronaldo is the rightful owner.

We can all see what is happening now. Where is Real Madrid now? Where is the so-called world's best to save Real Madrid? We can see what Ronaldo is doing in Juventus.

I want to implore FIFA to come in now and retrieve the 2018 World's Best Award and Ballon 'D Or from Lucas Modric and give them to Cristiano Ronaldo. They are Ronaldo's stolen awards.

I hope the cabals who ganged up against Ronaldo would learn from the events happening now.

Please, help push this to the front page till it gets to FIFA.

Politics / Governor Ambode Sets To Dump APC by Edmaths: 5:45pm On Aug 31, 2018
Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has entered into an emergency closed-door meeting with his commissioners and aides over his political future in the All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the commencement of party primaries.

DAILY POST gathered that the governor has been in talks with key stakeholders of his cabinet following reports of a decision by the “godfather” of Lagos politics and National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to withdraw support from his second term bid.

It was also learnt that the Governor is weighing the option of a last-minute defection to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, or the Action Democratic Congress, ADC, both of which are part of the Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP.

– Governor Amaechi bagged Vanguard Personality of the Year Award because of his outstanding performance especially in the education sector

– Unprecedented regular payments of teachers’ salaries

– Adequate equipment of schools. The primary schools were furnished with football fields with synthetic tracks, larger capacity halls, sick bays with modern medical equipment, libraries and power generating sets, modern computer laboratories with projectors and internet facilities. The head teacher’s offices were also furnished and equipped with functional computers to make teaching and learning easier and faster for the pupils for whom Chibuike Amaechi had declared free and compulsory education. Every child of school age was provided with text books, school uniforms, and physical education (PE) wears, school bags, shoes, sandals and a pair of stockings.

At the secondary school level, the dormitories were constructed as rooms with two-bed spaces, wardrobe, reading tables and chairs with the floors completely tiled. The desks at the new model primary and secondary schools were of international standard.

– Training for teachers to optimise their impacts on the students e.g Training in English Language skills by the government in collaboration with Etisalat (a Telecommunication Firm) and the British Council in Nigeria.

– Organisation of academic competitions e.g Quiz Competition, Debate Competition, etc, among the students to restore academic excellence and cultivate good learning and discipline in schools.

Hey G, Nice contribution.
But you didn't have to single her out and say that to her.
A lot of people on this thread believed this would be on merit. She wasn't the only one.

And by the way, why bash someone for being optimistic.
Come on!
We all should have one single voice and challenge the status quo, not bash ourselves for being believers!

I didn't bash her at all. She was the one that actually bashed a lot of people on this thread. You can go through her previous thread. All I'm trying to let her realise is learn to take things easy especially when it has to do with Nigerian situation.

Those guys on stakeholders list were actually laughing at other candidates who were sharing their interview experience and calculating their chances.

It is well.

Onyiridike:
At this point it doesn't matter whether your reference number is there or not. Once we are sure that the list is authentic we have to fight for the sake of the future generations.

Onyiridike:

Please check Enugu State for me. I take God beg you. Any information on Enugu State is welcome.

Onyiridike:
It is possible that they will remove some EH from the list and then replace them with GTs from mostly the stakeholders.

Imagine removing 51 or more candidates from the merit (EH) candidates, that means the stakeholders have taken at least 252 out of 500 which is more than half.

In an organized society you ought to have settled all issues before advertising.

We will continue to pray. God Almighty is more powerful than any man and the heart of a king is in His hand.

Marvel65:

8 slots were allocated to your state, 6 given out to stakeholders and 2 merit. I believe the other 2 had strong backing.

Hmmn!

@Onyiridike

I've been a passive follower of this thread. It's obvious you've seen the reality of Nigerian situation. This is Nigeria!

You were told by many on this thread about the level of nepotism in Nigeria. You fought many of them. You bullied them just to make your argument superior. You've seen the reality on ground yourself. Your very name might have been replaced with another name from one powerful "stakeholder" for this DPR job! This is Nigeria!

I hope you've learnt your lesson. With or without DPR job, life goes on!
