The Visas are granted for 10 years effective from day you applied. However, this is limited by the expiry date of your passport. So if your passport expires in 2027, the date that will be printed on the actual visa will be 2027.

Canada visas do not extend beyond validity of passport unlike US visas.

Biometric letter dropped same day.
Biometric appointment: May 24, 2022 (VFS London)
At that time, standard processing time was 5 days so as BCL dropped same day as application was submitted, I was happy. Not knowing they were up to something. I checked portal endlessly and eventually forgot I had applied Canada visa.

BVL & PPR : May 2, 2023 (almost a year later)
Passport submitted same day in Accra, Ghana.

Kept checking tracker and CIC portal no updates only to receive Passport collection email today.
Passport picked up with shiny 10 year validity visa.

The school wants to know the reason for refusal and determine if it will not automatically result in another refusal (eg. if you were banned when first visa was rejected). Tell them you do not have the refusal letter, they will ask for your consent to contact Home office for details of your refusal. I think the schools do this so they do not "waste" CAS. I know someone who had same issue. He gave consent for school to contact UKVI. He got his CAS a few days later, applied and is in the UK now. No fears.

They sent me Visa Information form to fill today and asking if I have been refused Visa before and should attach refusal letter. Yes, I was refused in 2013 but lost some document between now and then and dont have my refusal letter. Will this be an issue to issue CAS?

lol. Further increasing cost. Flight and accommodation. He should just make sure whichever country he chooses has a low chance of being put on red list. Ghana may be a wrong choice.

I'm not sure you will find this scenario being explained on any UKVI site. The rule is that you should not have been in any red list country 10 days prior to arriving in the UK so its pretty straightforward to understand and comply with.

No, you will not need to quarantine in a government approved hotel. Stay 11 days to be on safer side. But the question is what if Ghana is added to the red list during your stay there?

Please I want to ask. Supposedly I travel from say Ghana which is not a Red list country yet, and stay for 10 days before hitting the UK. Do I still have to book a hotel for quarantine?

Don't be nervous bro. They just asking about your application, why u chose the particular school, course etc. If they don't understand anything about your application they will ask for clarification. They asked for my accommodation post code sef. There are various sample interviews on YouTube. It's a credibility interview to know if you are a genuine student. You shouldn't provide rehearsed answers but be mindful of what you say so that further follow up questions don't expose any small lies. Don't over dress.
I was a bit jittery at beginning. Interviewer asked me to drink water that was on the table. It's a Skype interview. You can decide to type your answers which makes it faster or respond by voice and person types your responses.

Then the stress started.


1st non straightforward mail: 10th August
2nd non straightforward mail: 12th August
(I nearly mad)
Interview invitation: 16th August
Interview: 20th August.
Interview was over one hour. Call disconnected twice.
Application transferred to VAC: 26th August (when I tracked)
No decision email. As I didn't receive refusal email, I had hope.


I went to VAC on 27th, application was no where to be found. Waited till almost close of day before lady went through DHL envelope and found mine.

Opened to see visa smiling at me with a Printed Decision letter included in pack. When I held envelope first and felt the A4, I thought refusal letter. Only after leaving centre that collection mail came and tracking showed passport at VAC etc.

After 30 days of worry, I got my visa.
God dey!!!
