owbabs:
Please no open gutters, sand on streets
You need walkways with landscaping,
No fences around buildings
Road with minimum 3 lanes
Street lights, traffic lights
We'll design covered drainage
Everywhere needs to be scaped and paved
No open soil
Every plot/building should have a minimum of 30 land area dedicated to greenery.
Plan 2 or 3 trees per house
Build hundreds massive parks distance of 5km max apart
Doing these will bring more life to whatever architectural designs you come up with.
I like this. You sound well rooted in the field of discuss. An architect or engineer I guess? I hope the governor sees this. Good contribution indeed!

…says well-planned cities attract investors, ease policing

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has sought the input of the Nigeria Institute of Architects (NIA) and the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON) in the design of masterplans for the new cities billed to be developed across the state.

Obaseki also made a case for well-planned cities across Nigeria, arguing that "poorly planned cities are unattractive to investors and are most difficult to police."

Obaseki said these when members of the National Executive Council of NIA and ARCON, paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, in Benin City.

The governor said, “Nigeria has for several decades continued to evolve without benefiting from proper planning of its cities. This has contributed to unstructured cities that are difficult to police in the 21st century.”

He noted that his administration is making efforts to make Edo attractive and safe for investors by developing new cities that are well-planned and would be conducive for investors.

Obaseki mandated the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr. Edorodion Erimona and Managing Director (MD), Edo Geographic Information Service, Mr. Frank Evbuomwan to collaborate with members of NIA and ARCON on a workshop to finetune masterplans for the new cities in the state.

President, ARCON, Mr. Umaru Aliyu, said that they intend to provide solutions to urban chaos and unstructured development in the state, adding, “The present system where only one professional body reviews the works of at least three distinct disciplines is old-fashioned, prone to corruption and not sustainable for the development of the state. As an association, ARCON proposes that the development control function of the government should be situated in an independent agency.”

According to him, "The proposed Development Control Agency should have three technical departments to cover for the three-main components of built environment, which are Architecture, Engineering and Town Planning.”

Aliyu commended the governor for his efforts to improve quality of life and the built environment in the state, noting, “The associations are ready to support the state government in promoting sustainable built environment.”

• assures relatives of proper investigation, justice

It was a harvest of tears from family members, friends, and neighbors in Urora community, Benin City, when Governor Godwin Obaseki led some members of his cabinet to condole the family of the deceased driver, David Okoniba, whose death last Tuesday, (which was allegedly caused by an exchange with a police officer at Upper Igun, 3rd Junction area of Benin City), sparked off a heavy clash between youths and the police in Benin.

At an interval when wailings subsided for the governor to address the family, Governor Obaseki announced the setting up of a N10 million education fund for the training of the two children left behind by David Okoniba, whose death the governor described as very painful.

The governor said he was at the victim’s home to assure his relatives that the Government of Edo State share in their grief, assuring them that those culpable in the killing will be brought to book.

“I am here today to get the details of what happened. Listening to you, I am heartbroken. I can feel your pain and appreciate your pain and anger. I want to assure the family that the case will not be swept under the carpet.

“It will be followed to a logical conclusion as a reputable retired Judge of Edo State High Court, Justice Olubo has been selected to head the panel of enquiry which will investigate what truly happened on the said date of the incident that led to the death and consequent fracas between the youths and the police,” he said.

According to him, “I learnt that the deceased has two children. I have released N10 million fund to be used for their education, to reduce the pain of the absence of their father and ensure their education does not suffer much because of this incident.”

Obaseki also assured the family that government will lend good support in the burial of late David Okoniba, and advised that the family should take the wife of the deceased to the hospital for medical attention at government expense, as it was very visible that she was still traumatized from the incident.

A spokesperson for the family, Mrs. Aremu Roseline, expressed appreciation to the governor and the state for the visit to the family, noting that the presence of the governor has given them hope for justice.

She also thanked the Commissioner of Police, Mr Johnson Kokumo, who also visited the family and showed concern over the death of David, thanking him for promising to get to the root of the mater.

“We appeal to the governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki to help the family ensure David gets Justice. His death must not be in vain as he was the pillar of the family. He had two children and his formal wedding was to be in two-week time. His wife who was an eyewitness of the incident is psychologically affected and seriously traumatized,” she added.

...Orders Disarming of Herdsmen

… Sets Up Monitoring Committees in all 18 LGAs

The Edo State Government in a proavtive measure to ensure peaceful co-existence between herdsmen and their host communities, has banned night grazing, the carrying of guns by herdsmen and has set up a seven-man committee in each of the 18 Local Government Areas in the state to check clashes between herdsmen and farmers.

The seven-man committee will comprise the chairmen or Heads of the LGAs, the Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), representatives of State Security Service (SSS), and four representatives from within the communities.

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, who presided over a stakeholders’ meeting with the Serikis of Hausa/Fulani from the 18 LGAs in the state, charged the committees to “review all cases of herdsmen/farmer clashes in all the local government areas.”

He said the State Government would release the report of clashes between herdsmen and farmers in the state to the committees for review.

Explaining further, he said “The committees will ensure the registration of all the Seriki Fulani of every community across all the local government areas, and the Seriki Fulani will liaise with everyone rearing cattle in the area.”

According to the governor, there will be another committee that will be headed by him (the governor) and members of this special committee will include the State Commissioner of Police, the Director of the State Security Service in the state, the Commander of 4 Brigade, with other members drawn from the communities across the three senatorial districts in the state.

“Every three months we will meet with representatives of the local government committees to review and examine the progress being made in resolving the herdsmen/farmers' clashes in the state.”

“A special team made up of the Police, Army, Civil Defence Corps and other security agencies in the state will carry out random patrols and search operations. Any herdsman found possessing firearms will be arrested and charged with illegal possession of firearms as a cattle rearer do not need an AK 47 to herd cattle.

“We will not accept anyone with firearms and anyone found with arms will face the law. We need information to succeed in this fight and information is vital to the police and other security agencies. We assure you of your safety.

“We have placed a ban on night herding; nobody should herd their cattle at night. We have also placed a ban on hunting activities by people from other states in the name of hunting.”

On his part, the chairman of Edo State Hausa Community, Alhaji Badamasi Saleh, requested that “a mechanism should be put in place to protect the sources of security information as most members of the communities find it difficult to volunteer information to the security agencies as they fear that their identities would not be protected.”

Alhaji Usman Abdullahi, representing the Hausa/Fulani community in Edo Central Senatorial District, pledged that “The Hausa/Fulani communities are ready to cooperate with the state government and work with the security agencies in the state to fish out any member of their communities who engages in criminal activities.”

Alhaji Abdulkareem Ibraheem, representing the Hausa/Fulani communities in Edo South, urged the state government to provide the necessary logistics that will aid the task of the monitoring committees in the various local government areas.

Commissioner of Police Edo State Command, Johnson Kokumo, thanked members of the Hausa/Fulani community for finding the time to attend the meeting and assured that with their support, the clash between Herdsmen and farmers will be checked.

Politics › Edo State Earmarks 150,000 Hectares Of Land For Oil Palm Plantation by Ehisbaba78(op): 4:58pm On Feb 08, 2018
…partners Proforest to manage forest parks

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has said the state is ready to commit between 100,000 to 150,000 hectares of land to the cultivation of oil palm plantations over a period of five to ten years.

Obaseki disclosed this when he received Malaysian investors who were on a business visit at the Government House in Benin City, Edo State.

Obaseki said his administration is determined to expand the total land available for oil palm cultivation in the state from the current 40,000 hectares to between 100,000 to 150,000 hectares of land.

He said, “The state is the home of oil palm cultivation in Africa with the three biggest oil palm producing companies located here. At a time in history, huge revenue accrued from oil palm production was used to drive development before the discovery of crude oil, which is no longer sustainable. Returning to oil palm production for us in Edo is the way out.”

The governor noted that his visit to Malaysia in October 2017 was to see how the state can use proceeds from oil palm cultivation to transform her economy using the development model perfected in Malaysia and the entire South East Asia, adding, “My administration intends to take advantage of progress made in cultivating high yield varieties of oil palm in Malaysia and South East Asia, to attract more benefits and transform the economy of the state."

He maintained that “In this part of the world, we have climatic condition similar to Malaysia, which makes the state suitable for cultivating oil palm.”

Obaseki noted that his administration had entered into agreement with Proforest to conduct audit of all the state's forest assets, noting, “We are keen on re-building some of the forest parks and restoring some of the species we are fast losing.”

Head, Sime Derby Renewables, Azli Razali, who led the delegation of Malaysian investors on the business visit, said that they were in the state to explore business opportunities and seek possible ways to partner with the Edo State Government on oil palm production.

Razali said, “The team of investors from Malaysia considered Edo State a choice destination for cultivating oil palm and the business visit presents opportunity for them to explore the state’s forest assets.

On his part, Principal Sustainability Officer, Sime Darby Renewables, Carl Dagenhert said, “Expanding the land bank for oil palm cultivation is crucial for effective oil palm plantation. Africa is the largest market for oil palm cultivation which is the reason why Sime Derby Renewables is seeking investment opportunities in Africa.”

According to Kokumo, members of the team are currently being investigated and if found culpable, would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
