Governor of Edo state, Adams Oshiomhole has urged the people of the state not to vote for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in order not to go back to the dark days of under development, poverty and unemployment. Oshiomhole who said this at a rally in Uromi, on Wednesday, said “Let me remind you that Saturday is an opportunity to consolidate the change. I hear people say that before APC was in opposition; yes we too want them to do opposition. PDP has passed its productive years. Forever and ever, PDP can no longer deliver. “The engine of the Mercedes in Abuja today is APC’s Buhari, the back axle at the State level is Oshiomhole of the APC, now the seat in the House of Assembly, do you want to put in Volkswagen and reject the Benz? You must vote Adima and Okpame so that the Mercedes will be complete. “Election that was held last week, some people do not know what happened. Some say we lost but I say we won because today APC is now the Federal Government. Can we win more than that? To win does not mean that everybody must vote one way. What the majority says is what matters. That is what gives me joy. Oshiomhole added that, “In Uromi land, power has changed. People who used to carry police to arrest us, we will now be the one arresting them. Before, the police was afraid of them but not anymore because the Commander-in-Chief is now General Muhammadu Buhari of APC. Power has changed. When an Iroko falls, any small bird would fly over it. “Now if we want to nominate Board members for NPA, it is we that we do it. The Uromi man that would go to NPA will come from APC, the Uromi Man that will be in SURE-P will come from APC, the Uromi man that will be in INEC will come from APC and the Uromi man that will be Minister of Works will be from APC. “PDP must bring money to share because they have stolen so much. I know when they brought money last week, some of you got confused. Please in this week’s election, we must not be confused again. If they give you, take but vote for APC. When they give you, after Saturday, you will not see their break light until after four years. Please don’t waste your votes, vote for the ruling party.” |

Malawian Police are orders to shoot anyone attacking albinos in the latest bid to crack down on a rising wave of violence against albinos in East Africa. According to the UN, no fewer than 15 people with albinism, mostly children, have been killed, wounded, abducted or kidnapped in East Africa in the past six months. There is a marked increase in the violence in Malawi, Tanzania and Burundi. UN officials said no fewer than six attacks on albinos were reported in Malawi in the first 10 weeks of 2015 compared to four incidents over the previous two years. It said that gangs were roaming the southern district of Machinga hunting for albinos whose body parts were prized in black magic. Tanzania has banned witchdoctors in order to stop the trade in body parts used in spells and charms claiming to bring luck, love and wealth. However, Burundi is trying to safeguard albinos by accommodating them with police protection. The latest order came from Malawi’s Inspector General of Police, Lexen Kachama, who instructed police to shoot any “dangerous criminals” caught abducting albinos. “Shoot every criminal who is violent when caught red-handed abducting people with albinism. “We cannot just watch while our friends with albinism are being killed like animals every day. “We do realise that these people are ruthless, have no mercy and therefore they need to be treated just like that,’’ Kachama said. He, however, ordered police to use weapons in proportion to the crime A similar remark was made by Tanzania Prime Minister, Mizengo Pinda, in 2009 when he urged citizens to kill anyone on the spot if they were found with the limbs or organs of albinos. Albino rights group have called for greater protection of albinos, saying that killing suspects was not going to deter attackers. |
