According to the Senator and former Governor of Abia State, He was asked about His opinion on the issue to party defection that is going on currently in Nigeria. He said that David Umahi has made the promise to join APC many years ago before he finally joined this month. he also said that the current governor of Abia state Okezie Ikpeazu has also promised to join APC. In his words he said that party is just an identity to win election, he encouraged those around him that the brotherhood should continue despite the party affiliations.

Senate Chief Whip and Senator representing Abia North has hinted that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu would soon dump the Peoples Democratic Party for the All Progressive Congress, APC.

Kalu, a chieftain of APC, disclosed this in Umuahia while fielding questions from newsmen after a condolence visit to the member representing Umuahia East state constituency, Hon. Chukwudi Apugo over the demise of his mother, Madam Dorothy Apugo.

The former governor claimed that Ikpeazu promised to join APC during his first electoral case at the Supreme Court.

Kalu who expressed delight over the recent defection of Gov. David Umahi of Ebonyi State from PDP to APC said they were awaiting the arrival of Okezie in APC.

His words: ”We have been waiting for Umahi because he made us the promise long ago like Abia governor Ikpeazu.

”We are waiting for Ikpeazu unless he changes his mind. One of my friends, a top security czar in Nigeria told me that when Ikpeazu was going for his first Supreme Court judgement, he promised that he would go to APC.

”I was called to agree to welcome him, and I agreed. APC is a party for all”.

Meanwhile efforts to reach Ikpeazu did not succed as his Chief Press Secretary, Onyebuchi Ememanka did not pick calls put across to him by our Correspondent.

Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, had however, in a recent media interview, dismissed rumours that Ikpeazu was plotting to defect to APC as false, insisting that the governor has no such plans.

The former Abia Governor who claimed he was the first person to doll out the initial N500 million to sponsor PDP at ex President Olusegun Obasanjo’s house, said APC meant well for Ndigbo contrary to perceptions in some quarters.

Asked how he felt about the recent call to assume the role of political leader of Abia state, Senator Kalu said he appreciated the invitation but added that he would not yet do so when there was a sitting governor.

” I can’t assume the position of a leader when there is a sitting governor”, Kalu said.

He boasted that APC would sweep Abia State come 2023.

Earlier in his interaction with Apugo, he said he came to condole with the lawmaker over the death of his mother as he could not attend the burial following crucial engagements at the senate.

He urged him not to over sorrow over the loss of his mother who he said lived a good life.

Orji prayed God to grant the Apugo dynasty and all those affected by the demise of the late Madam Dorothy the fortitude to bear the loss.

Responding, Hon Apugo thanked the former governor for identifying with them during their moment of grief despite belonging to a different political party.

The lawmaker said the former governor had shown true leadership by jettisoning partisan politics to identify with political opponents.

On the entourage of the former governor were some APC lawmakers in the Abia State House of Assembly; Kalu’s brother, Mascot Uzor Kalu; and some APC top shots.

Former Speaker of Abia House of Assembly, Chinwendu Kalu was also on ground to receive him.

The presidential aide had taken to her Twitter page on Monday to share a photo of poorly dressed children wearing facemasks made of cardboard.

In a post accompanying the photo, she had stressed the need for a collective effort in tackling the spread of the novel disease, while commending those who inspired the facemasks donated to the kids.

The movie star said rather than addressing the poor condition of the kids, the presidential aide was “spewing nonsense.”

University Transparency Solution Will Save Nigeria’s Foreign Exchange

Says Labour Minister Ngige

Nigeria’s Minister of Labour and Employment Chris Ngige has said the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) will save the country’s foreign exchange if discovered to be efficient and better than government’s preferred Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) as a platform of payment in Nigeria’s university system.

The Minister who was a guest on ARISE News however denied claims that the federal government has abandoned IPPIS, saying all payment module in the government system go through IPPIS.
“I like UTAS because if UTAS works, it’s a homegrown technology and that helps presidential order 3 and 5, and we’ll save our foreign exchange because it’s a homegrown thing.

“The screaming headlines like government have abandoned IPPIS is not entirely correct because there is no payment module now in existence in the government’s system that will not have a handshake with IPPIS,” said the Ngige.

Nigerian universities have been shut down for over eight months following the strike action by the country’s lecturers under the aegis of ASUU, but there were agreements and resolutions reached during last Friday’s meeting between the lecturers and the delegation of the federal government.
He explained the agreements reached between the federal government and the union with the government also agreeing to ASUU’s demand to pay their members’ salary arrears from February to June through the old salary payment platform.

Lekkitollgate: DJ Switch will be exposed soon, says Lai Mohammed
The Federal Government says popular disc jockey, Obianuju Catherine Udeh, fondly referred to as DJ Switch, “will be exposed” soon over her claims on the alleged shooting of #EndSARS protesters by soldiers at the Lekki toll plaza on October 20, 2020.

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, made this known at a press conference in Abuja today. According to him, the briefing was conveyed to address lingering issues regarding the #EndSARS protests for police reform that rocked the nation last month.

Mohammed, who described the event of October 20, 2020 as a “massacre without bodies”, insisted that contrary to DJ Switch’s claims, not a single body has been produced or a single family has come out to claim their family member was killed at the Lekki tollgate.

He also said the government stands by last Saturday’s testimony of the Commander of 81 Military Intelligence Brigade, Victoria Island, Lagos, Brig. Gen. Ahmed Taiwo, who told the Judicial Panel of Inquiry instituted by the Lagos State Government that blank bullets were fired at the toll gate.

The minister lamented that celebrities used the social media to circulate fake news during the #EndSARS crisis, noting that the government will not fold its arms and allow the trend to continue.

He said, “One of the purveyors of fake news was one DJ Switch which real name is Obianuju Catherine Udeh, even though she claimed authentic evidence of mass killings. Surprisingly, instead of presenting whatever evidence she may have, she chose to escape from the country on the claim that her life was in danger. In danger for who? “The military has come out to say we never sought after her and to the best of my knowledge, the police never declared her wanted.



“Her conduct thus becomes suspect. Who is she fronting for? What is her real motive? Who are her sponsors? If she has any evidence, why is she not presenting such evidence to the panel? Since she was very desperate for asylum in any country, did she have to resort to blatant falsehood to tarnish the image of the country?

“In the fullness of time, this lady will be exposed for who she is, a fraud, a front for divisive and destructive forces.



“At this juncture, we want to appeal to countries that have made faulty judgements on the basis of fake news and disinformation emanating from #EndSARS crisis to endeavour to seek and find the truth.”

Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi quest to be All Progressives Congress presidential candidate and not alleged injustice meted on the South East by the Peoples Democratic Party, has been blamed for his defection.
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, who made this assertion, said committed members of the PDP were not surprised that Governor Umahi on Tuesday formally defected to the APC, which he has for a while been fraternising with.
Governor Wike, said ordinarily he would not have been perturbed by Umahi’s decision to defect to the APC, but, he felt offended by his attempt to justify his decision on the purported injustice meted on the South East by the PDP.
The Rivers State governor accused Umahi of being unfair to the PDP which gave him governorship ticket in 2015 against all odds, and repeated same feat in 2019.
He noted that while Umahi has a right to move to the APC, but for him to attempt to blackmail the PDP and paint it in a bad light was mischievous and unacceptable.
“My friend, Umahi wants to be president. There is no problem about that. You have a right to be president. Nobody can stop you. You are educated. You have been a governor for two terms, so you are qualified to say I want to be president of Nigeria. But, that does not mean, that because you want to blackmail your party, and tell lies to the people you are leaving the party because of the injustice meted against the South-East, that is not correct.”
Governor Wike, who demanded that Umahi should retract the statement that the PDP has not been fair to the South-East, argued that under the PDP, the South East has produced Senate Presidents; National Vice Chairman of the PDP and Secretary to the Federal Government.
He said it was erroneous for Umahi to accuse PDP of injustice, when he had unilaterally imposed his younger brother as South-East zonal Vice Chairman of the PDP.
“In life , power is sweet, but conscience is important. It is most offensive and insulting for a man to lie against his party because of power.”
The governor said though APC has not yet told Nigerians where it will zone its presidential ticket, Umahi presumptuous move might be too hasty and will ruin him politically.
According to him, assuming the APC decides to zone its presidential ticket to the South East where the party has no formidable base, what is the guarantee that Umahi will secure the ticket.
“My reaction to Governor Umahi’s defection is not that he has no right to defect, but to say he is defecting because of injustice meted to the South East that is insulting to the South East.”
The Governor urged the National Working Committee and the National Executive Committee of the PDP to take decisive steps to ensure that PDP does not die in Ebonyi State.

The Governor gave a direct order that the security agencies and Local Government Councils should fish out, arrest and prosecute any individual or group that has a part in the alleged Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) attacks on the residents of the Oyigbo community who were accused of burning down three police stations and killing some security officers.
According to reports, resident are fleeing the Oyigbo community to neighbouring areas like Iriebe and Etchez Eleme, accusing the Nigerian Soldiers of harassing and murdering the youths of the community. There are also reports of the residents not having access to basic health care, food, light and other necessities as they have been kept indoors due to the situations currently going on in the area.

Though the imposed curfew was slated to start by 6;30pm from the day it was announced, but it seems as though people are very afraid to come out of their homes to avoid harassment and forceful arrest by the soldiers as the streets appears to be empty.
