PoliticsRivers: 9 PDP Governorship Aspirants Disown Wike by Ejimike(op): 7:40am On Dec 28, 2014
Barely 48 hours hours after nine Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirants allegedly reconciled with the party’s standard bearer, Chief Nyesom Wike, nine of the signatories have distanced themselves from any reconciliation.

In a communiqué read by one of the governorship aspirants, Hon. Nimi Walson-Jack, the aspirants agreed to work with Wike and to ensure the victory of the PDP in 2015.

The reconciliation allegedly took place in the presence of the Rivers State PDP Chairman, Felix Obuah, Minister of Sports, Dr. Tammy Danagogo and Senator George Sekibo.

These leaders signed the communiqué alongside the governorship candidate and the nine aspirants.

Barrister Wike had earlier on reconciled with six other aspirants, bringing the number of aspirants who have resolved to work for the PDP to 15 of the 24 who bought forms and were cleared to contest the December 8, 2014 PDP governorship primary in Rivers State.

According to the communiqué, the governorship aspirants who resolved to work with Wike at the meeting held at Le Meridien Hotel, Port Harcourt in the overall interest of the PDP include Professor Don Baridon, Mr. Ben Dimpka, Professor Israel Owate, Mr. Siha Ofonyi, Mr. Richard Victor, Engineer Beks Dagogo Jack, Mr. Nimi Wilson-Jack, B.D Esale and Mr. Dennis Oseleye Ojuta.

But in a statement jointly signed by the nine governorship aspirants, they said they were neither present at the meeting nor consulted to append their signatures.

The statement issued yesterday reads: “Our attention has been drawn to certain news reports in both electronic and print media including a Web site named Riversconverge to the effect that 15 nameless PDP governorship aspirations have met with PDP leadership and the candidate, Chief Nyesom Wike.

“We wish to state unequivocally that we were neither aware of nor were we part of any such meeting, and did not subscribe to any decision arising therefrom, particularly when it is realised that majority of those who attended the meeting were not Governorship aspirants.

“We further state that we did not authorise the use of our names for such a meeting and any person or persons doing so are only striving to achieve their inordinate ambition.

“We will be in a position to make our considered decision on the matter of PDP governorship ticket known at the appropriate time. We stand for justice, equity and fairness and must fight for our cause within the party.

“We advise our dedicated supporters and Rivers people at large to remain calm and resolute as they look up to God”.

The nine aspirants who signed the statement are, Hon. Pidomson Gabriel, Hon. Dumo Lulu Briggs, Mrs. Biobele Dodi Odesola and Chief Hon. Pawariso Horsefall.

Others include, Major Lancelot Anyanya(rtd), Hon. Bernard Mikko, Engr .S.A. Ngerebara, Barrister Fafaa Dan Princewill, Mr. Atamuno Atamuno.

3, 000 members of the All Progressives Congress
(APC) under the aegis of Justice Group Wednesday
defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in
Lagos.
The group was led by Chief David Abidakun, who
explained that they are leaving the APC in Lagos and
the south west.
He said “We are not counting the number of people
here but our membership. We have a membership of
over 70, 000 in the South West and all of us will join
the PDP in our various states in the South West after
the formal ceremony”.
He said that the group left the APC for being
marginalised, adding that “We believe that the PDP is
a place to be and so we have decided to be part of
the winning team.”
Receiving the decampees, the Lagos State deputy
chairman of the party, Chief Sikiru Apena, promised
them fair and same chances with existing members
of the party.
Also at the event were Chieftains of the party and it’s
Lagos State governorship candidate, Mr Jimi Agbaje.

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian
Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adejare
Adeboye, has denied that the church endorsed the
aspiration of one of its pastors, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo,
as the vice presidential candidate of the All
Progressives Congress, APC.
Osinbajo, who pastors the Olive branch of the RCCG
on Banana Island, Lagos, on Wednesday emerged the
running mate of General Muhammadu Buhari.
Adeboye, while reacting to the subtle endorsement of
Osinbajo by a Twitter handle: @rccgworldwide,
presumed to be the official Twitter handle of the
RCCG, denounced the page.
He said in a Tweet credited to him on @rccghq:
“RCCG is not affiliated nor represented by @
rccgworldwide.
“The church’s official twitter page is @rccghq.”
In no fewer than four other tweets, the church
equally faulted the endorsement of Osinbajo by the
creators of @rccgworldwide.
One of the tweets by the Pastors Seed reads: “RCCG
has not celebrated anybody for any position in the
forthcoming elections! The #OfficialRCCG handle is @
rccghq. Do not be misled.”
Another reads: “We are a mission and we do not
meddle into politics #RCCG #OfficialRCCG @
RCCGworldwide is wrong.”
Another said: “#OfficialRCCG – @rccghq We do not
denounce neither do we endorse candidacies for
elections. We are not a political party.”
Similarly, on his Facebook page – PASTOR E. A.
ADEBOYE – the revered cleric posted the following
statement.
“On behalf of The Governing Council of The
Redeemed Christian Church of God, we would like to
inform the public that RCCG is not affiliated nor
represented by @rccgworldwide.
“The church’s official twitter page is @rccghq. The
church cherishes the right of all citizens to participate

Redeemed Church Disowns APC VP, Prof Osinbajo.
The General Overseer, Pastor E A Adeboye, through the
Governing Council of the Redeemed Christian Church
of God (RCCG) has disassociated the church with one of
its Pastors, Prof Osinbanjo, selected to Asiwaju Bola
Ahmed Tinubu to be Pa Muhammadu Buhari's running
mate.
Prof Osinbano and his aides have been sending out
bogus congratulatory and support messages to the
APC new VP candidate, claiming that the messages
came from the RCCG Headquarters.
The Governing Council of the Redeemed Christian
Church of God declared that they are not part of the
political aspiration of Prof Osinbajo and never sent any
message of congratulation to him or his party. The
Church added that democratic and political party
association is a personal issue to members of their
church and they group sending those messages have
nothing to do with their church.
It is shame, that Pastor Prof Osinbajo in less than 24
hours of his selection as APC VP candidate, has joined
the dubious propaganda and lie peddling of his new
political association.
This confirms a Kanuri proverb that said that, "when a
Goat that do not eat yam starts following the goats that
eats yam, it will start eating yam".
An RCCG Senior Pastor who pleaded anonymity said
that it is impossible for their Church to support a
candidate (Pa Muhammadu Buhari) that openly
canvassed and have been working for the spread of
Sharia to all corners of Nigeria.

PoliticsHow Okowa Defeated Uduaghan In Delta Guber Primaries by Ejimike(op):
HOW SENATOR OKOWA DEFEATED GOV UDUAGHAN AT PDP GUBER PRIMARIES

Senator Ifeanyi Okowa’s emergence as the
governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic
Party, PDP in Delta State was not just the result of th
steadfastness and steel of the candidate. There were
many other factors.
While he is generally appreciated for his political
integrity, last Monday’s victory has unmistakably
highlighted the grip on the state chapter of the PDP
of associates of the immediate past governor of the
state, Chief James Ibori on the party. Okowa served
in Chief James Ibori’s cabinet like Senator James
Manager, who joined forces to push forward Okowa's
victory.

Consensus candidate
Okowa polled 406 votes beating to second place,
Olorogun David Edevbie, the consensus candidate of
the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) who also had the
political machinery of the state government behind
him with 299 votes. Other results as announced by
Sunday Kareem, the returning officer were as
follows: Victor Ochei (185 votes), Ndudi Elumelu (50
votes), Godsday Orubebe (49) and Godswill Obielum
(22). Sylvester Monye, Ovie Omo-Agege and Sam Obi
got 10 votes each; Peter Okocha had six votes, Tony
Obuh (five), Charles Emetulu (four), Kenneth Gbagi
(two) and Mike Uwaka (one vote). One vote was
voided.
2006 power shift agreement
It was learned on good authority that Ibori insisted
on the power shift arrangement by leaders of the
party, eight years ago, which is that Delta North
senatorial district should produce the governor in
2015. This was against the clamour by the UPU, the
apex sociocultural group of his Delta Central district
for an Urhobo governorship flag bearer.
Incompatible dissimilarities
It was, however, palpable that there were some
irreconcilable differences between Governor
Emmanuel Uduaghan and Okowa which only the two
personalities can explain. While Uduaghan stood
wholeheartedly for a Delta North successor, his mind
was not on Okowa and his body language pointed to
the retired permanent secretary, Mr. Anthony Obuh.
Until the last minute swing by his political machinery,
Obuh was generally perceived as the man to beat in
the contest.
Okowa or nobody else
Those who served with Okowa in the Ibori
government were said to have insisted on Okowa
forging ahead a development that pushed those
opposed to him to the wall, and brought up the idea
of using Edevbie to stop him through the Urhobo
Progress Union, UPU.
UPU’s debacle
•Senator Ifeanyi Okowa flanked by his wife and
Professor Sam Oyobvbaire during his governorship
declaration in Asaba, Delta State.
The UPU assumed that its threat to switch the much
trumpeted 800,000 Urhobo votes against President
Jonathan was what made President Jonathan to
order Governor Uduaghan to support its candidate,
Edevbie, but it probably read the handwriting on the
wall wrongly. The strings were from no other person
than their son, Chief Ibori, who contended that the
Edevbie project would not fly.
Comrade Paul Bebenimibo, a senior adviser to ex-
militant leader, Chief Godwin Ekpemupolo, alias
Tompolo, distanced the president from the affair
saying “That is a lie, President Jonathan is not
involved in the matter, he did not give any directive,
they should leave him out of it.”
Bebenimibo, chairman of Okowa Mandate 2015, who
earlier told Vanguard that Okowa would win, despite
the UPU gang –up against Delta North, said, “We, the
Ijaw people from Delta South senatorial district,
except for some few that voted for the former
Minister of Niger-Delta, Elder Godsday Orubebe,
worked for Okowa because we know he is the leader
that Delta state needs now.”
An Ijaw governorship aspirant, Mr. Andrew Warri,
who stepped down for Okowa, told Vanguard,
“Okowa deserved the victory, my people told me to
step down and work for him. I had to respect their
position, the primary was free and fair, nobody can
fault the process.”
Okowa is known to be loved by the political class in
the state, but his tiff with Uduaghan alienated some
persons until the eleventh hour when the Ibori
followers rallied round him. Senator James Manager,
who is also of the Ibori political family, led his Ijaw
kinsmen, while Tompolo, did a yeoman job behind
the scene.
Nwaoboshi undeterred till the last minute
Former state chairman of the party, Chief Peter
Nwaoboshi, who had boasted that it was Delta North
in 2015, was not deterred by the last minute
momentum towards Edevbie. He told Vanguard five
hours before the votes were counted, “Mark it, you
will see what will happen, there is no way Delta
Central is going to get it.”
Nwaoboshi shook hands triumphantly with Senator
Manager shortly after Ijaw delegates cast their votes,
probably for a job well done. This was before the
votes were counted. The refusal of Delta North
aspirants to arrive at a consensus candidate for the
primary worried the Ibori political family, but that
notwithstanding, it deployed its immense muscle in
the three senatorial districts to deliver Okowa.
Shocker for UPU
An Urhobo leader said, “In fact, the UPU was shocked
that some Urhobo people voted for Okowa instead of
Edevbie. Even though the votes from all the local
governments were mixed and counted together, it
was clear when the Delta Central local governments
were being counted that they were betrayers in the
house.”
Uduaghan
“It was Ibori that directed that Chief Ighoyota Amori
should get the Delta Central senatorial ticket and
before you know it, the same Amori that lost to
Senator Emmanuel Aguariavwodo, some months
ago, emerged as flag bearer. You see, this is politics,
Amori and others, even though they are all under
UPU, have no choice than to work for the candidate
of their man,” he added.
Few hours to the primary, the adoption of Chief
Edevbie by UPU apparently in consultation with the
powers that be instilled fear in some of the aspirants
and made some, including the deputy governor, Prof
Amos Utuama, to drop from the race.
The Urhobo political class and other government
officials, who were giving marching orders to deliver
Chief Edevbie worked hard as most of them moved
from one delegate to the other, canvassing for votes
without fruitful results. Most of them beyond what
they were given, spent their personal money to woo
delegates but to no avail.
One reason the Ijaw kicked against Edevbie was that
they saw him as a member of the cabal that worked
against the ascension of Dr. Jonathan as acting
president when President Umaru Yar’Adua took ill in
2009. The Ijaw gave bloc votes to Dr Okowa, vowing
that the man, who worked against the emergence of
their kinsman (Jonathan) would get their votes.
Bitter lesson for UPU
As a matter of fact, the emergence of Dr. Okowa was
akin to a political revolution in the state as people
from the three senatorial districts voted him
regardless of whatever order they were given. Most
importantly, the leadership of the UPU would learn a
bitter lesson from this because it threw their weight
behind a ‘goat’ in a fight meant for lions’.
Political mystery
A political analyst hinted, yesterday, “What happened
in Delta state is a political mystery. It is a clear
indication that nobody is God or can play God. When
they say 24 hours is long time in politics, nobody
should dismiss the statement in a hurry because that
is exactly what played out in the state.”
“Can you explain why Dr. Uduaghan had to step down
for Senator Manager in the Delta South primary,
forget the explanation that it was for peace and
security of the state, did you not see what happened
to Mr. Obuh, who only 48 hours to the primary was
the man to beat.
“Things changed, all just because of a call by Ibori’s
men to associates that Okowa is the man to take over
from Uduaghan. Even the governor could not stop it,
it was power against power,” he stated.
Three reasons why Okowa won – Prof Oyovbaire
Chairman of the Okowa Advisory Committee, the
think-tank that weathered the storm, Prof Sam
Oyovbaire, however, gave Vanguard further insight
into what happened. He said Okowa won because of
the credible that was put in place to actualize his
ambition, the commitment and suitability of Okowa
himself to the project and the prevarication of
officialdom on favoured and non-favoured aspirants.
It was learned that even there were challenges of
finance, Okowa rose up to the occasion, so his group
was able to soldier ahead and the strongest of the
challenges was the support of officialdom for
different aspirants. Oyovbaire, however, said that the
shift from Aspirant A, B to C and all that by
officialdom, rather than worry the Okowa group,
emboldened it to believe that officialdom could still
dump the man chosen at the last minute and that
was what happened.
He said given that the delegates for the primary were
supposed to be 1,080, the Okowa group worked day
and night with its candidate, tackling all sort of
rumors and building bridges and calculated that
Okowa would get nothing less than 500 votes and
leave others to share the remaining. Okowa,
however, won with 406 votes, 94 votes short of the
projected figure.
Other forces
Majority leader of the House of Assembly, Chief
Monday Igbuya, who was working for Tony Obuh,
former state chairman of the party, Patrick Sinebe
from Patani, Senator James Manager, name them, all
had to join forces from Delta South and Central to
deliver Okowa following Ibori’s directive. Igbuya
could not obey the UPU directive because of the
sanction against him over his support for Obuh.
“The Commissioner representing Itsekiri on the
board of DESOPADEC, Chief Michael Diden, aka Ejele,
who is from Warri North, Governor Uduaghan’s local
government, did not work for Edevbie because he is
an unrepentant Okowa man. He fought tooth and nail
to ensure that Okowa won in Asaba.”
Uduaghan congratulates Okowa
In the spirit of love, Uduaghan congratulated Okowa
Monday night on his victory. In a press statement
issued by his chief press secretary, Mr. Sunny
Ogefere, he described Okowa’s victory as well
deserving. Uduaghan who is leader of the PDP in the
state, charged Okowa to demonstrate the spirit of
sportsmanship by quickly extending a hand of
fellowship to other contestants. He also called on the
other aspirants to note that the exercise was a family
contest where there was no winner no loser, urging
them to join hands with Okowa in positioning the
party for victory at the general elections.

CONTUNUE......................................

Watchers of the political drama that attended the
emergence of Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa as the
standard bearer of Peoples’ Democratic Party’s in the
2015 governorship race will not forget in a hurry the
palpable fear that pervaded the atmosphere at the
Event centre, Asaba, the venue of the governorship
primaries held on December 8, 2014.
For the 26 aspirants, their supporters and the
accredited delegates, whose mandate was either “to
liberate the state from pervasive mediocrity and
sycophancy or to continue with the status quo”, the
task was not going to be easy.

Dramatic events

The dramatic turn of events that resulted in the
dropping of Sir Tony Chuks Obuh from the race was
too hard for the man and his supporters to swallow.
Sir. Obuh had about three years to stay in the civil
service and everybody expected that at most, he
would retire as the head of service, but he was
encouraged by circumstances around him to retire
and contest to be the next governor of the state. Sir.
Tony Obuh formally retired in August.

Before Obuh pulled out of service, Dr. Uduaghan wa
said to have called a meeting where the Special
Adviser on Political Matters, Chief Ighoyota Amori,
the Secretary to the State Government, Comrade
Ovuzure Macaulay and the former State Chairman of
PDP, Chief Peter Nwaoboshi were in attendance. The
Governor briefed them of his decision to allow power
shift to Delta North. This was the genesis of the Obuh
project.
When his journey came to an abrupt end on
December 7th, it was a shocker to Sir Tony Obuh, his
family, supporters and political opponents. In fact the
entire Delta North was thrown off guard as they saw
Delta North 2015 slipping away.

The Rescue Mission

The looming humiliation that came with the news of
Dr. Uduaghan dropping Sir Obuh was too hard for
the Obuh Camp to contain and there was no time to
organize any rescue mission. There was no plan B
and there was nobody to reach out to. Sir Obuh
became a pawn in the political chess game between
Chief James Ibori, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan and the
Stakeholders in the state. Name droppers went to
town that it was the presidency that asked that Sir
Obuh should be dropped. Of course there was no
truth in this. For most Anioma people, the idea of
dropping Obuh was seen as a response to the series
of threats by the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) which
had insisted that its members would vote against the
PDP and against President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan,
if the governorship ticket was not given to Delta
Central. The Obuh drama added apprehension and
revulsion to the power game as he was said to have
lost the support of Dr. Uduaghan who was now said
to have endorsed Olorogun David Edevbie, an
aspirant from Delta Central which is opposed to
equity in the political space. But Uduaghan’s action
was said to have been fueled by the lack of
cooperation from Delta North people who appeared
to be fighting him in spite of his preference for a
Delta North candidate to emerge next governor. And
since the more than 15 candidates from Delta North
would not agree to reach some agreement to present
one or two candidates there was this fear that they
would split the votes and finally lose the chance.
This caused the last minute change that craved for
support for Edevbie, an Urhobo candidate who was
expected to pull the votes of the majority Urhobo
tribe and some others to emerge. Obuh was to be
offered the position of his running mate and would
have another shot at the post after Edevbie. This
development was seen either as a betrayal or as a
capitulation by Governor Uduaghan, depending on
which side of the divide you belong. This made Delta
North people more united. Meetings were held and
they decided to queue behind Okowa. Surprisingly,
Edevbie did not get the total support of the Urhobo
and it turned huge advantage to Okowa who had
remained resilient.
Delta North trembles
Taken together, Delta North people saw their cause
as less optimistic. Most dreadful was the prospect of
living under the hegemony of Delta Central if the PDP
Governorship Project was blown into shreds. This
was the atmosphere prevailing in the state as the
stage was set for the primaries.
The Poisoned chalice
For many Urhobo politicians, Dr. Uduaghan handed
them a poisoned chalice. The endorsement of Chief
Edevbie came too late that he could not utilize
whatever advantage the incumbency factor was
supposed to confer on him.
Okowa’s burden
Dr. Okowa had been favoured to win the primaries
even though he had to face the stiff challenge that
came his way from all directions. In 2007, he
narrowly lost to Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan.
Dr. Okowa emerged tops in the screening organized
by Anioma Congress to trim the number of aspirants
from Delta North. He was followed by Hon. Victor
Ochei and Hon. Ndudi Elumelu. But some other
aspirants protested against the work of the Anioma
Congress. The introduction of Sir Tony Obuh and
Hon. Charles Elumelu’s names in the work of the
Anioma Congress created further complications. The
Secretary General of Anioma Congress, Sir Dan
Okenyi told Saturday Vanguard that “the victory of Dr.
Okowa is a vindication of the work of Anioma
Congress.” Sir Okenyi said even Dr. Goodluck
Jonathan has called the Asagba of Asaba, Prof. Chike
Edozien, to commend the foresight of the Anioma
Congress in the choice of Okowa who seems to have
a Pan
Deltan Agenda
Okowa won the votes of Bomadi, Patani, and Burutu
Local Governments. Okowa also won solidly in Isoko
North and South. The votes from Warri South and
Warri South West also went to Okowa. He received
about 45% votes from the Delta Central. This
minimized the impact of the 185 votes that Hon.
Ochei received and the 50 and 49 votes that went to
Hon. Elumelu and Elder Godsday Orubebe,
respectively. A former Chairman of Oshimili South
Ogbueshi John Efianya, said the victory of Okowa at
the PDP primaries was the beginning of the battle
ahead.
According to Efianya “We must sustain the grassroots
and Pan Deltan appeal of the Okowa candidacy. We
have to work with Delta South and retain the
friendship of Delta Central who shunned divisive
politics.”
The political strategists in Delta Central have gone to
the drawing board to decide which party they will
adopt for the 2015 election. Chief Great Ogboru who
has been contesting to be governor since 2003, is the
flag bearer of Labour Party while Olorogun O’Tega
Emerhror is the candidate of All Progressive
Congress. Dr. Okowa is not carried away by the
euphoria that he picked the PDP ticket because it’s
still morning yet on creation day.

i hav even writen som tins bfor i discover dat i wasn't using de specified pencil. I hav to clean up all dat i hav shaded den begged my seat mate to cut his pencil into 2 and give 1. Sharpen it and started reshading all including my name befor time up. Wen i used my eyes to survey round, i dicovered dat majority were nt/did nt use HB. Dat prompted me to ask about d implcation of using wrong after de exam. Shaloh

Adepoju2081: How on earth do they mark the OMR sheets in the just concluded 71RRI Exam. We doubt the authenticity of the list. Over 95.5 People's names are missing.....hmmmmm!!!!!
i tink majority failed because dey didnt use de specified pencil (HB) de instruction on d answer sheet said ''use only HB pencil'' i was told dat d computer has been progamed to recognise and mark only Hb pencil shaded options. I can testify dat in my hall 70% didnt use HB. People u learn to adhere to intructions. Tanks

kwenu: seeing theres delay, i have no doubt that theres now wuruwuru involved, surely i guess because the air force could not recruit enough men this year,to please most of thier ogass now so they now choose to use the army in compensating most of thier ogaaaas

which means, those that couldnt join the airforce this year will get a chance in the army.

its already 17 july and no news yet, i m sure they cant release it today nor tommorow.
lets not loose hope yet. Delay is not denial bible says all tins worketh for d good of dose dat love him
