Celebrities / “I Wouldn’t Take On A Role That Will Jeopardize My Home” Actor Temitope Akinyemi by ekeibiduntv(m): 9:16am On Jun 17, 2023
Meet Temitope Akinyemi a Nollywood actor, film maker, producer an executive producer and the CEO Of Integrity Icon productions.

Our reporter Badejo Adeyemi spoke to him on how he cemented his place in the movie space.

“…i wouldn’t take on a role that will compromise my belief and jeopardize my home”

Excerpts

Q. Can you tell us about your journey in the film industry and how you became involved in filmmaking and acting?

Integrity icon. Well, I had a passion for acting at a tender age but I didn’t do anything about it, but fortunately for me, I have an elder sister who was working under AINA GOLD. Her name was “Funke Akinyemi and she’s late now. I got to meet a lot of people in the industry through her with whom I later became friends. So this made my journey into the industry a little bit easier. I became a full member in 2011.

Q. What motivated you to start your own production company, Integrity Icon Productions, and what is the vision behind it?

Integrity icon. Since 2011, it’s been on and off, For some reason I had to put my acting career on pending for some business ideas. But in 2015,I relocated to Ogun State and that was when I decided to resurrect my acting career. I wanted to form a group with one of my friends who also had a passion for acting. A lady also joined us and we were 3. We deliberated on what the group’s name should be, I came up with INTEGRITY and the lady came up with ICON and that was how “INTEGRITY ICON PERFORMING ART came into existence. It was actually run like a school, we had some students coming in to join then and I’m the sole financier. Unfortunately I had to dissolve the group some years after because I relocated back to Lagos but I retained the group’s name and a lot of people by then have started calling me “Integrity Icon” because it was the name I opened my Instagram account with, My first production after I got back to Lagos was produced with the name ” INTEGRITY ICON” and that was how the name became a brand.

Q. Do you think Yoruba actors are relegated?

Integrity icon. Nope, Yoruba actors are not and cannot be relegated. We have always been the one to put Nollywood into the forefront. Our acting prowess and film making aptness has always put us on the global map and I’m not seeing this stop anytime from now. You can see we are improving everyday, Our actors have produced the highest grossed Nollywood movie of all time and the most grossed indigenous movie of all time. So,what more could I say?

Q. What is that one role you can never play?

Integrity icon. As an actor, you have to be versatile and creative. But I wouldn’t take on a role that will compromise my belief and jeopardize my home. A role that wouldn’t teach morality. I won’t go nude or have direct sex in movies.

Q. Can you tell us about your educational background and family?

Integrity icon. I’m from the Akinyemi’s family, The first male child of 4 of which I’m number 3. My dad hails from Oyo state and my mum is from Ogun state. I’m a graduate of UNILAG and I’m happily married and blessed with lovely kids.

Q. As a filmmaker, producer, and actor, how do you balance your various roles and responsibilities?

Integrity icon. Well, it has not been easy but we thank God all the way. Being an actor made it easier to be a film maker. It gives me the necessary perspective about the types of actors I wanna have on my set and the kind of story i wanna work on. It prepares me for what’s to come and how to have proper communication skills with my cast and crew. I’m able to balance the roles well by thorough understanding of the two and what they entails. Luckily for me, I also have people around me who help and ensure the burdens are not overwhelming.

Q. How do you handle attention from your female fans?

Integrity icon. I’m always diplomatic about how I handle and deal with my female fans and not even female fans alone but all my fans. They are unavoidable, most will come to your Dm’s with different messages and all that. But one just has to be extra careful and apply wisdom. May God always guide and guard us.

Q. What is the biggest price you have paid for your career?

Integrity icon. One of the greatest prices I paid was over a friends production. I was supposed to be on his set for 5 days and we planned the production together but I was hospitalized before the date. I couldn’t afford to miss the production because I knew it was going to affect a lot of things, so I literally ran away from the hospital without anyone’s consent. I removed the drip from my hand and left. Thank God I already packed all my costumes in the car, didn’t even inform my wife I’ll be going for the production. I went, spent 5 days, and I did great all through.

Q. Who is that one personality you will love to work with and why?

Integrity icon. The only person I’d love to work with is Odunlade Adekola. I so much admire his craft and his production ability. He’s so agile and I love the way he handles production. He’s that actor that endeavors to always bring out the best in every actor he’s opportune to work with. He’s been on my set before and I still wanna have him any day any time.

Q. What do you consider to be your greatest achievements in the film industry so far, and why?

Integrity icon. My greatest achievement? I can’t really say but i have to thank God for where I’m coming from and where he’s taking me to. I know God has a huge plan for me and I’m yet to get there. My greatest achievement so far is being alive and doing what I love most. It actually gives me the perks.

Q. Can you share some insights into the process of producing and acting in Nollywood Yoruba movies? What are some unique aspects or challenges of working in this genre?

Integrity icon. Production in every genre is virtually the same thing, a thorough preparation makes a better production but what makes Yoruba movies production more interesting is bringing in our various cultures, languages and religions into the movie. It gives us an edge over others and it makes our movies and roles kind of unique. You can see someone who hails from Oyo state speaking egba dialect perfectly and also a Christian playing the roles of a muslim without stress. We trained ourselves to be versatile and creative. We can also go to any length, traveled anywhere just to make our production the best.

Q. Which of the films you have worked on as a producer and actor holds a special place in your heart, and why?

Integrity icon. Hmmm, all the movies I have produced actually hold a special place in my heart. There was not a movie I produced that I didn’t see as my best but I can say ” IPIN” (FATE) stands out. It enables me to realize that nothing is unachievable when you set your mind to it. It’s a Segun Ogungbe’s direction and a lot of great actors were part of the production. Bimbo Oshin, Akin Lewis, Akin Olaiya, Bukunmi Oluwashina, Saidi Balogun, Myself and many more. Akeem effect was also part of the production and it has a lot to tell. Till tomorrow it’s a movie you’ll watch and re-watch. It has a replay value as they say.

Our reporter Badejo Adeyemi spoke to her on her aspirations to take the movie industry a notch higher with her current project.

Excerpts
Q: How did you come into the movie industry?

Olatoun: I came into the movie industry through my boss Iyabo Ojo in the year 2010 . Initially, I wanted to apply for the post of presenter for a new program on African magic then which was to be managed by her, because I love interacting , I applied but unfortunately the show was cancelled and she encouraged me to join Future stars an acting school she owned. The deep knowledge and experience still nutured me till today .

Q: Can you recall the first movie you acted?

Olatoun: Awww I can’t really recall the first movie I acted , but I featured in most of Iyabo Ojo and Muka ray released between 2011 to 2013. I featured in Baba no regret , Arinzo, Tembelu , Enu orofo and many others.

Q: Tells us about your first time standing before the camera, what was the experience like ?

Olatoun: Well it was challenging and also fun . It was like a practical examination because most of the things I learnt in acting school has to be displayed on the movie set . It was fun because I got to understand some camera terms like close up shot , wide shot and medium shot and the director was a bit friendly then ( Lasu Ray )

Q: What are the challenges you have faced so far ?

Olatoun: Hmmm a lot ooo , but the major challenge is financial, trust and marketing challenges so far.

Q: How do you relate with your male fan(s) ?

Olatoun: Smiles… I relate with them maturely , politely and in a friendly manner .

Q: What project are you working on presently ?

Olatoun: I am working on different project , but the current one is a web series titled “Market Palava” . Which Is mainly vendors and customers stories , it is entertaining and educative .
We just finished shooting the season one, working on the next season in few months time before it will be released online .

Q: Of all the movies you have produced or featured, which one is your favorite and why is it your favorite?

Olatoun: My favorite is my first movie production titled Oneness , still showing on YouTube . I will say it is my favorite not because it is my movie but because it broadens my knowledge more on the business and management aspect of movie production and also boost my confidence as a determined actor .

Olatoun: I am very playful once am in a good mood , I love to act like a baby even to my teenage kids lol.

aside being an actor and a producer , I am also a chef and manage an event company SIMSHA WORLD OF VARIETIES LTD) and finally I am into Real Estate

Q: What is your take on the quality of movies produced in Nollywood presently compared to the last five years ?

Olatoun: The quality of movie produced now is of great high standard compare to five years ago . Movie productions are now on the competitive level , this has prompt a lot of producers to put in more efforts in getting quality equipments to achieve high standard shots .

Q: As a female actor how do you feel other female actors like you can be protected from producers or directors who request to have them in bed to get an acting role?

Olatoun: Well as for me there is nothing much to be done to protect we female actors from such harassment or attitude , probably if the acting bodies can normalize a call out publicly for anyone doing that , it will stop . But for now my opinion is female actors should try to put in their best in any regular role they are being casted and keep pushing for opportunities out there , they should avoid lobbing for roles , what will be wil be will be .

Q: What inspired your new movie?

Olatoun: My new production is not a movie but a content , more like a series .
I needed stories that are not too common , what people can relate with and learn from while we entertain the viewers . As an entrepreneur and business tycoon , we experience various issues between customers and we vendors , that inspired me to create content on different kinds of customers and vendors and also to promote small business owners gradually .

It is a mixture of Yoruba , English ad pidgin English in other to carry everyone along easily.

Thank you so very much Olatoun for a refreshing session. I have enjoyed this conversation thoroughly.

Olatoun: Thank you so much for having me as well.

Religion / Housewife Poisons Chief Imam Says I Hate Marriage by ekeibiduntv(m): 9:12am On Oct 31, 2022
Housewife Poisons Chief Imam Says I hate marriage

The Borno State Police Command said it arrested Fatima Abubakar, a housewife 25, for allegedly taking the life of her husband, Goni Abbah, with poison.

Mr Abdu Umar, the state Commissioner of Police, who revealed this to the News Agency of Nigeria in Maiduguri, the state capital, revealed the suspect was arrested on October 19 at Anguwan Doki.
Umar said the victim, who was the Chief Imam of the area, had returned from a mosque when the suspect, who was his second wife, allegedly put poison in his food.
He explained that as soon as Abbah started eating, he began feeling uncomfortable.

According to him, the victim was immediately rushed to the State Specialist Hospital where he was given medical attention, but later died.
The police boss was said to have deployed men of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department to arrest the suspect after the incident was reported by the victim’s family at the GRA Police Station.
Umar said the police, on arrival at the scene, saw a large number of aggrieved youths in the neighbourhood, who stormed the home of the victim with the intention of lynching the suspect.

He said the police, however, brought the situation under control.

The police commissioner noted that the suspect, in her statement, confessed to the crime, saying she bought the poison from the market after she made up her mind to kill her husband.
He said the case had been registered as culpable homicide before the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions before she would be charged.
The suspect, Abubakar, who was paraded at the command headquarters, told NAN that she killed her husband because she was tired of the marriage.
She said, “I never wanted the marriage. Goni was my second husband; I got separated from my first husband because I hate marriage.
“Anytime I wake up with the fact that I am married, it pisses me off. At some point, I had to run to my parents to demand an end to the marriage, but they always sent me back, asking me to be patient.
“At some point, two months after I gave birth to my child, I ran away and slept in an uncompleted building for about two weeks. I later returned to my husband’s house.

“Not that he doesn’t treat me well; we are also not quarrelling. We are two in the household, I am his second wife and I have been married to him since 2021. But I just hate when any man comes near me.
“I don’t really know what is wrong with me. Even now that I am speaking to you, I don’t really feel that I was the one who killed him.”

Celebrities / “sexual Harassment Was Almost A Daily Routine For Me As A Child” Opeyemi John by ekeibiduntv(m): 1:42am On Oct 31, 2022
It was always an opportunity for her to explore me. She will strip me and herself naked, and start the act..

Opeyemi John is a Nigerian actor, writer , film maker and movie producer. The untold story.

My name is Opeyemi John, I’m an actor am a film maker.

I was born in the North I grew up in the north and had my entire education in the north. I was born in Zaria kaduna state I grew up in Kano and had my university education in University of Jos.

Can you recall the first movie you acted?

The first movie I featured in is Egbo okan produce by great value and directed by Odunlade Adekola.

How exactly did you come into the industry?

From my early days I’ve always wanted to be a screen person. So i started my career back in secondary school days in my school drama.

While in Jos I got connected to Akume Akume through auditions he took interest in me as a matter of fact, he motivated me he paid for my registration to join the AGN back in 2009/10. Ever since then the passion has always been from one level to another level.

What are the challenges you faced at that early stage?

Well most upcoming faces challenge of having people to believe in them, scarcity of production for me back in the north. Jos is not a production state per say so movie production was very few. I had to move to Lagos after schooling in Jos

Lagos as a new home for me, I had to struggle to mingle with producers, get auditions and I was not too familiar with places here and deep yoruba language was also a barrier for me too. I was born in the north so it was more of Hausa and English language for me, understanding Yoruba deeply for the sake of production was more of a challenge for me at a point but thank God I scaled through all these are the challenges I faced.

Who was the first person to believe in you?

The first person to believe in me is me because I so believe in myself. I know I can do anything throughJesus christ. Secondly I’ll pick someone that’s Tunde Popoola (JJ) he is a director he also coordinate productions at the early stage he really encouraged me and helped me to get roles in so many projects so I think he is also part of my story that I can not forget

What is the inspiration behind your movie “The Voiceless” ?

The movie the voiceless was created out of true life experience. When we say child molestation, harassment or rape we always believe that it happens more to a particular gender which is the female gender but the truth is it happens to boys too.

At a very teenage age, i was molested severally. My mum,Whenever she was going out will hand me over to this so called big sister to serve as a guardian. It was always an opportunity for her to explore me. She will strip me and herself naked, and start the act.. I was meant to be mute forever she will say, the day you tell anyone you will die (ojo to ba ti so fun eyan ni wa ku) and it kept going on and on. When I had the chance of doing a movie I wanted to do the voiceless long ago but I was not having the capacity and the strength to tell the story the way I want to tell it so I did other projects and just this year i thought its time so I can actually give the story a trial though it was beautifully shot but not to my taste bccos of financial constraints but even at that I was still able to achieve a very beautiful production with superb casts, technical sounds and all that.

So the movie voiceless is a cry for help it preaches we shouldn’t be silent. So many people are rape apologist they fail to speak out and not speaking out means the perpetrator of this act will continue in this act. If a rape happens people will come pleading please don’t make it go viral let’s settle it by so doing you are empowering those commiting this evils acts. .

Whenever there is a case of rape we end up doing protests at most say no to rape after that we will not hear nothing.

In the mind of the rapist, what motivates them, so many questions are left unanswered. If you say a lady is seductive what happens to the ladies on hijab, child on diaper or a grandma in her 70s that got raped, are these people seductive too? So these habits have been inculcated since early stage for the rapist because are in a society where correctional centers are only meant for criminals. If a boy child is exposed to molestation at a very early age, this thing forms another negative part of his growing up and if not properly controlled he might end up being a rapist or Monster.

What other project are you working on?

For those that are familiar with my production though we have not done much though this is my fourth production and my next production would be the negative influence Of cultism on our society.

What are your thoughts on movie production in Nigeria today?

Well on production it’s a gradual process we are not where we used to be and I can categorically tell you that the sky is out starting point. Back those days its a stage but now we have a cinema now we have Netflix Hulu and the rest of others. I think we are doing beautifully well we are getting the recognition we deserve even when the pay is still small, the future is still bright though we still have producers that engage in substandard production but I believe that but with proper orientation with proper learning with the right budget every film maker can do better. Everybody want to tell a story in a beautiful way a times financial strength reduces producers to shooting substandard production. There is this saying that those that have money don’t have content and those who have contents don’t have money.

If you are to collaborate with any artiste who would that be?

If by chance I’m to collabo, I have been on set with virtually almost all our grade one artiste so I’m to do something different Omo osha wa Baddosneh, Olamide would be number one on my list if I’m to do a music movie, Davido might be second and Don Jazzy.

What efforts are the veterans putting up to sanitize the industry?

Sincerely speaking only the veterans can answer this question I’m yet to be a veteran but I want to believe they are doing their best to sanitize the industry. Our industry is not what it used to be especially the Yoruba movie industry. Back in the day you have to be trained go to rehearsals, back in the days of ANTP you have to go for local meetings you have to be trained but we have so many Camera So mi dI oga gun.

What are your thoughts on pay per role?

Whoever is doing pay for role be it a producer, director or crew member such people don’t have life. Because if you keep doing pay for role when will the real talent be given an opportunity o showcase their talent? The fact is Talented people are broke take it or leave it. Majority of the talented guys I’ve met in my life that their talents wowed me are broke. Some of them do not even have money to go for location so how do you tell them to pay for role you want them to play in a movie?

Whoever is paying for roles are financially okay. Once they have paid, they’ve bought your conscience whether they interpret the role well or not you cant blame them cos they’ve paid you. Pay for role has been something that is killing the industry.

How do you combine acting with MC?

I act I coordinate aside that too I’m a business thinking person I do whatever brings me money.

Acting and MC are entertaining business and they are both interwoven as long as the dates don’t clash.

How do you unwind?

I play football and if I’m not watching I play football I talk football. I neither drink nor smoke at my leisure time I chill out with my phone talk with friends and have a nice time.

Do you think other actors may see you as Snobbish if you do not collaborate with them?

No it’s definition of who you are with what you want. A song says Sapamo man reduce see finish sometimes(in Yoruba)

When I came into the game newly we were all hunger for locations we want to be on every project and somebody called my attention and said don’t go to any production that is not worth it. I can count like 10 (ten) productions I participated in spent money, stress that didn’t see the light of the day Because even in the cause of shooting you know this movie is not going anywhere by the virtue of the cast, equipment, location even reality. So I try as much as possible to be selective with production and I try as much as possible to choose who my friend is it’s not pride it’s just class. The industry is wild so many green serpents.

What did your parents say to you when you were young that you remembered your whole life?

Relationship with my parents was good before my dad passed on I was very young when he died so I can not really hold on to any special advice he gave before he died but my mom is very much alive she prays for me always so I’m cool with that.

What is the one piece of advice you would give to anyone ?

Be focus in life know what you want, define your path be prayerful have a straightforward mind be at peace with everybody at every time smile that’s just my piece of advice

What are some of the ugly truths of life?

Our industry make dem give talent for industry opportunity to grow make dem stop the issue of bribe for role o pay money for role should be reduced to the nearest minimum talent plenty o make dem help dem blow. D way e Dey politics e Dey industry too may God help upcoming, May God help me too , may God help me too.
