Nairaland / General / Whenever An Arguement Breaks Out, Is There Always A WINNER? by Elcontedor(m): 10:23am On Nov 11, 2016
I didnt understand what this post was about until i read what this guy said on his blog. He was pretty much explicit about why one should avoid getting in to an arguement in the first place.

I hope you agree with him as much as i do.

Education / My Thoughts On The Saga Between The Unilversity Of Lagos Management And ULSU by Elcontedor(m): 6:55pm On Apr 26, 2016
While I can still speak freely on the internet without having to sign any form, let me use this medium to share my thoughts regarding the state of affairs in the said university of first choice. The senate committee according to the information on the school website on Friday April 22nd 2016 announced the resumption of academic activities on campus but on very preposterous grounds. Quite frankly with respect to the opinion of all and sundry, I find it as an act of cowardice.

The protest that led to this decision by the senate was quite peaceful. The students body had hoped to seize the opportunity to get the attention of the university authorities to meet the demands of the students and make us happy as we have always been. Prior to the protest, life on campus had become unbearable, light was not constant as it used to be not to mention water (both to drink and for other conveniences). Also...

Politics / What You Should Know About The 2015 General Elections by Elcontedor(m): 9:32am On Feb 15, 2015
The elections are here again. It happens just once in four years. God knows when, after the postponement Nigerians who are 18 and above who have registered and obtained their PVC (permanent voters card) would head to the polls to perform their civic rights and Vote in their representatives at different levels of government.

Prior to that time, it is important that we remind ourselves about the importance of this exercise and how it affects us individually.

1. As a Nigerian who has obtained a PVC. It is important you cast your vote. It is the only way you can start a change or keep the current administration in office.

2. Your Vote is priceless. No gift or money is worth your vote. It is your voice.

3. You are responsible for your decisions. Be wise and reasonable about whom you cast your vote for.

4. Don't vote for a party. Vote for your preferred candidate. Vote for the candidate of your choice.

5. Avoid heated argument and detesting comments about a party or a candidate (You don't know who's listening)

Nigerians have outgrown the days when we believe we have no business being at the polls as a result of insecurity and other contributing factors, our electoral system has experienced a massive change. The events of the past years have positively or negativity been an eye opener for all Nigerians and everyone is motivated to exercise his/her civic right.

We are hereby enjoined to exercise our rights peacefully, shun violence and be good ambassadors of our families as we head to the polls.

May the best man win!

Nairaland / General / Why You Can't Win An Argument? by Elcontedor(m): 12:58am On Feb 13, 2015
You will agree with me that every man craves for a feeling of importance. Nobody wants to be sidelined or looked down on.

Arguments occurs as a result of differences in opinion where both parties involved wants his/her opinion to be heard with either of them willing to admit to being wrong! They both want to save their faces. Hence the question; Why prove to someone he/she is wrong? Is that supposed to make him/her like you? Will that strengthen your relationship with him/her?

Eventually you would end up creating enmities between each other, hatred sets in and whatever relationship you had with the other is destroyed.

Moreover, Arguments brings resentment. Some arguments get so heated that it leads to physical abuse of each other which at the end still takes both of you back to where you started because a man convinced against his will is still Of the same opinion says Dale Carnegie. Nothing has changed! Opinions still remains the same but relationship has been destroyed and an enemy has been made.

Enough said, I believe the facts below would enlighten you more about arguments and why you should avoid it.

1. You can't win an argument. You can't because if you lose it,you lose it and if you win it, you lose it. Why? Suppose you win the argument, then what? You will feel fine. But what about the other person? You have killed his pride and made him inferior. He will resent your triumph. (Dale Carnegie)

2. You make the other person uncomfortable which often leads to embarrassment (Dale Carnegie)

3. A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still (Dale Carnegie)

4. If you argue and rankle and contradict, you may achieve a victory sometimes but it will be an empty victory because you will never get the goodwill of your opponent (Ben Franklin)

5. Hatred is never ended by hatred but by love and a misunderstanding is never ended by an argument but by tact, diplomacy, conciliation and a sympathetic desire to see the other person's point of view (Buddha)

Ultimately, the only way to get the beat out of an argument is to avoid it. It wastes time, it is unproductive and it destroys
