Education › Re: 2019/2020 UNIBEN Admission Guide Thread!!! by Eligant1: 6:34pm On Jan 25, 2020 |
Uniben changed my course from Medicine to Veterinary Medicine in November, but I delayed in accepting the admission. I finally accepted my admission on Christmas Day but it was late. So I went to Uniben and complained and they advised me to start taking classes with faith that my admission will click. Yesterday, January 24th Uniben finally updated my Jamb Caps page & offered me admission. I will start my clearance on Monday, January 27th.
Thank you all for this thread it helped me greatly.

Eguavodde22: I logged into my jamb caps last week and I saw that I was transferred from chemical engineering to chemistry on the 19 of November 2019, I wasn't informed about it by uniben, I accepted the transfer approval last week, till now my admission status link is still showing not admitted, I just want to know if my admission is still sure Have you fixed your situation? If you have, please share how you did it. If not I would advise you go to main auditorium and student affairs right away. There seems to be a lot of applicants with this issue. |

FreeConCiencE: You guys are stooping so low by dignifying all these mere drug dispensers with brilliant answers. See the questions that put them off balance. Leave all these dispensers alone. You guys are far ahead of them. Their problem is inferiority complex. They don't even know that pharmacology is just an integral part of the voluminous work of a doctor. Yet, they are still being put off balance in pharmacology. Pharmacists are as useless in these country as P in psychology. Chemists are doing better than some of them. The only thing they know how to do best is rubbing shoulders with doctors. Lab scientists are more important than them. They will now start competition for space and job with chemists.
Sentiment apart, Pharmacists are very useless in this country. I would rather encourage people who may not be interested medicine/Dentistry to consider medical lab science than encouraging them for pharmacy just because, unless the person plans to relocate to another country, they are valueless and useless. Diligent lab scientists in the house.... I 'm proud of you guys even though there are few rogues among you guys too. I hold you guys in high esteem for brilliant test results from you guys. Come to think of it, why would I encourage someone to go and spend 4or5 yrs in the University and at the end of day, he will now start competition with chemists. The lucky ones that get dispensing jobs in the government hospital will now be rubbing shoulder with doctors due to low self-esteem and inferiority complex. Imagining going to the ward to review a patient that you are not invited to come and review and at the end of the day whatever you do doesn't make any difference or affect the line of treatment. Yoruba call it '' more gbo, mo ya ''. Shame on the Nigerian Pharmacists. No doctors will go and review a patient unless he is invited.
The nurses too, will claim they are the owners of the patients and they can do whatever any doctor can do apart from surgery. I pity you guys. what they know how to do best is to put their big butts in a very tight white gown and be tempting doctors and the patients with there laps and butts and then start gossip in their cubicles while patients need their attention. Many auxiliary nurses are more skilful and with high sense of mannerisms than our big-butted self acclaimed skilled nurses. Let me stop here for now. Okay, I get it! The divisiveness in healthcare is caused by some physicians with SUPERIORITY COMPLEX. Smh! It’s worst in the US, people are leaving healthcare to start their own businesses, there’s too much insult. Physicians were classy in the past, not anymore because they’re in the profession for the prestige & pay (becoming a doctor is not the best way to make money), not to help people. I’m here to help my brother decide what profession his personality would suit. We have chosen, PharmD it is! Cool & collected while running his own business. You! Go learn how to be classy. |

ensamy: They are alot of Frustrated Doctors, Pharmacist, Med.lab.sct, Nurses and radiographers now in Nigeria. Success in any field of study is determined by your personal determination, hardwork and God's favour. The most successful people in Nigeria did not study any of the above courses. The only little advantage the above courses can give you is that atleast in any harsh economy you eat three Square meal, build a bungalow and buy a car that's all. Besides any Business man can own a pharmacy, hospital or diagnostics centre and then employ the professionals to work for you. So no course is better than the other. MBBS,MLS, B.Pharm, Nursing and B.Rad are not better than B.A in Igbo,B.A yuroba, B.A Eng, B.Sc Zoology etc. You’re 100% correct. I keep saying it, Business is the King of all careers. |

poyebad: Thanks all. Reading through the contributions here I learned so much about different health professions in Nigeria. We also had to do consultations with individual professionals, Pharmacists, MBBS, and MLScientists, both those doing very well and those that are not doing so well (most of them never really admitted they weren't doing so well)... And I am happy to inform you that my brother is now in 100L Obafemi Awolowo University, studying pharmacy.
And he is very excited studying the course. He seemed to have had his path outlined before him now: study pharmacy and go into private practice where he will get to engage patients directly and at the same time build the business.
My advice is for individuals looking for admission to put in a lot of thought and question-asking before choosing a course. The process of seeking information and understanding alone is very enriching. We met and interacted with awesome scientists, doctors and pharmacists... I must also say that none of them was rude like some of those that contributed in this thread. (I still do not know why Nigerians are so darn angry on Nairaland)... In the end, I have gained fresh perspectives about an area I didn't know much about.
Thank you Nairaland. You’re an intelligent person. We are in a bit of a situation right now because my 16year old brother is fighting to get into Pharmacy school, because he changed his mind at the last minute. One lucky student will take his place in Med school, as he passed the cut off point for UNIBEN Medicine, but he doesn’t want it anymore. He chose Medicine earlier because he wanted to join me in the US and practice here, during his visits I took him on a tour at the hospital where I work. Now he’s changed his mind and want to only visit the US and practice in Nigeria as a Pharmacist instead. By the way, Nigerians get angry when their pride is wounded. |

Oogway: This should do justice to the the topic. Straight out of Google and Wikipedia. Sometimes I wonder why Pharmacist never keep comparing themselves to doctors it's more like part of their training. Lolz. Pharmacy is a noble profession but they should know their boundaries. With all the comparison almost all pharmacist I know would kill for their kids to go to medical school and become a doctor. I have seen Pharmacist who have graduated and come back to study medicine. I'm yet to see a Doctor leaving medicine for pharmacy or cajoling their kids into pharmacy. Do you know why Pharmacists keep comparing their profession to Doctors? It’s because society downplayed their importance, the same reason black people in America & all over the world keep comparing themselves to White people. It’s simple psychology. By the way, I worked in a US hospital business department for 4 years (while I was prepping for med school). In my time there, I realized that Business is the king of all careers. Doctors and other hospital staff can lose their jobs anytime, but the owners of the hospitals will remain. And also do not come to a conclusion by what you see on Wikipedia, Doctors pay is by specialty. Also Pharmacists earn less in the US but more in Nigeria. Whereas Doctors earn more in the US and “ridiculously” less in Nigeria, plus they are a shadow of the profession because they don’t have access to decent medical equipments. I recently quit my medical school journey (while I was still doing my prerequisites, don’t come at me I did not fail o, God is my witness I had a 3.9 GPA. People who graduated from good Universities in Nigeria know US colleges na beans) and decided to be a full time business woman. I’m not alone, even Doctors in the US are diving into business too. If you have a passion to help people go for Medicine, if not it can be frustrating as the thrill dies pretty quickly. I have 3 cousins who are Doctors in Nigeria, one is a politician today, the remaining two are complaining daily, I won’t advice anybody to read Medicine in Nigeria except they plan to relocate to the US after graduation.
