Balon d'or was never regarded as the world best. It was originally for European players of European origin. It was called European best. So those legends you mentioned as great as they were, won the European best award.

Was on his way to our noisy neighbours until the club's hierarchy intervened because of optics and paid him through their asses. A move that turned out to be a disaster for all parties. Again, disrespected the club, the manager, his teammates and the fans while refusing to play and subsequently refusing to report for pre-season.
