Romeo3:Ghen Ghen. Uber will be forced to respond, or else they lose even more drivers. Competition is sweet. |
chloride6:I would advice that as you are perfecting your driving, also be learning/memorizing routes and how to navigate around the city. Very important. |
iamspeedracer:Ooh OK. I use a Samsung Galaxy Note 4. However, I think all phones behave like that unless you are using Wi-Fi |
bizguru000:Yesterday, Uber matched me with someone about 30 mins away from me. I was in Surulere, the rider was on Isolo road around Mushin and the traffic to get there was quite heavy. I still went. You know why?, the surge was 1x9 and the rider was going to Magodo. Made around 3,500. Was worth it. Sometimes, picking up riders from far distances may be worth it if the rider is going far. If i am in Berger for instance, and i am to pick up a rider from Magodo going to Ajah, i would go especially if there is boost or surge. |
iamspeedracer:Why do you ask? |
2nd day back on Uber yesterday. There is still money on Uber sha especially with this boost promo tha Uber is doing. But the traffic this days na strong thing.

ifyalways:True. That's why i said the biological father almost always wins in court. However, the woman could have gotten that signed document from the biological father if she had taken the document to him at the time he was originally denying that he was the father. Most times, the guys just want to extricate themselves from an untenable situation and they will be willing to sign anything. A recorded tape of him denying paternity may also work IF she has a very good lawyer. |
Legally, if the biological father can prove via DNA test that the boy is his, then he is the Legal Father. However, if the step-father had legally adopted the boy then the biological father had no claim to him. The mistake people make is not going through the legal adoption process. When the biological father comes for their children, they almost always win in court |
dyemida:Mathematically, i fail to see how Taxify will pay more. Uber has increased their fares by 100% even if you factor in their 25% commission, thats still a 75% increase. That is still far more profitable mathematically. However, the situation in reality may be different. Drivers need riders to make money. With this price increase will there be enough riders on Uber?, or will they prefer the cheaper Taxify alternative?. I guess time will tell |
Reeefe:In order to make 400k a month(after Uber fees and fuel but before car repairs and maintenance), i have to put in about 96 hours per week(15 hours Monday to Thursday, 18 hours Fridays and Saturdays. I don't work on Sundays). In my opinion, those are already hefty hours. When Uber slashed their prices, and later surge dropped drastically i realised that in order to make 400k a month, i had to increase my weekly hours to 130 hours. Even if my wife accepts, my body can't. Business is all about time. Time is equal to money. I had to find some other business that will gurantee similar income with similar amount or even less time/input. |
dyemida:Which would you prefer Uber with double the former fare but 25% commission or Taxify with lower fares but 0% commission? |
alstarmayo:My brother, thanks o. I used to work very hard those days. Tried to do about 12 -14 hours per day, and almost all day Fridays and Saturdays. I stopped when the things was not making financial sense again. When you are working that hard, i believe the money you are earning should be commiserate. Of course the fact that there where a few other options also helped because truth be told if Uber was all i had i would have had no other choice but to stomach the low pay. |
So Uber has increased their price. This is the beauty of competition. I can tell you authoritatively that Uber Nigeria was coming under intense pressure from their corporate head office. They reduced price in the hopes of getting more customers and they did increase their customer base for a while, but over the last 2 months Taxify has been crushing them. Due to long wait times before a driver gets to you, many riders where switching in droves to taxify. To make matters worse, Taxify was matching them promo for promo. They had no choice but to increase their fares. It will be interesting to see how Taxify will respond. My guess is that they will hold on a bit on matching Uber they will probably increase a bit. Taxify still needs to differentiate themselves from Uber, and they will hope that lower prices will retain their customers. The question is will drivers remain.? As for me, i hit the roads next week. I have not driven in 5 months, waiting patiently for a time like this. I will use this week to round up all my businesses and hit the roads next week. Let see if we can hit pre-price reduction fare earnings of 400k per month. |
oxytech:Is it manual? |
Enyinne:Also from experience, if your driver majorly works on the mainland, there is a very high chance that most of his trips would be cash. It's the the Island, Surulere and maybe Yaba that you tend to get card trips. |

Dacronym:A driver can take you to Sango however, you can't request from there. Uber's coverage does not get there. |
alstarmayo:Everything is okay for me o. By Gods grace, I got a good project somewhere in the North, and I am working on it now. When I get back if the prices have increased then I continue Uber. If not, then I find another hustle. |
See what this enemies of progress called Uber sent to me. "UBER: Dave, is everything OK? We noticed you haven't taken a trip via Uber in a while. If you have any issues, we're here to help!" So because I am not driving on Uber to work like a slave and earn peanuts that means that everything must not be OK. |
lexylexy:See Uber wants to stop this partner/driver dynamic. They want only car owners to be driving. That is the only explanation I can give for this ridiculousness. There is even no boost promo or quest promo for old drivers this week. Unfortunately, the alternatives are almost as bad. On Taxify you wait hours to get a rider, and you can't stay home or hunger will finish your family. |
Mboi2:The idea is this. If you do 50 trips in a week and don't earn up to 60k (after Uber has taken their 25%), then uber will top up the difference to 60k. So if you do 50 trips and you earn 56k, then Uber will add 4k to make it 60k. The problem however is that it is highly unlikely for you to do 50 trips and not make at least 60k, so the promo is rubbish. |
Romeo3:Its a stupid trick. Only a foolish or inexperienced driver will fall for this. |
Romeo3:It's a useless promo. With 60 trips, you should be doing at least 90k not the roughly 60k they seem to be promoting. In a hour you should be making at least 1500 not the meagre 1k per hour or so that Uber is pushing. I would rather advise people to target surge. |
OlugbengaE:That us precisely the point. If everyone goes offline at the same time, there will be surge. Then we all go online and enjoy the surge. The next day we do the same thing at an agreed time, and then enjoy the surge and then go offline. I tell you Uber will be forced to react. We have the power to create surge and enjoy it. By the time riders are getting frustrated with paying plenty surge money and stop using Uber then Uber will be forced to increase their prices to pacify drivers. Trust me it will work. |
Romeo3:You make some sense chief,(though I wish you didn't have to use your tone/language). For starters, you are right in the sense that nobody is forced to drive on Uber, if it is not profitable for you, you are free to pull out. In that sense it is not forced slavery. However, there is a term called Capitalist or Wage Slavery. A Capitalist slave is defined as someone forced to work at a "job" owned by a capitalist (owner of jobs, the means of production, and the profit from the jobs) through NECESSITY or through mental or physical threat. The keyword here is necessity. For many people working on Uber despite low earnings is necessary in order to take care of their families and take care of themselves despite the harsh working conditions and low earnings. Due to the economic conditions, they are forced to accept the demands of the Capitalist or face hunger. Think about it, despite the low fares, an average Uber driver can still make about 10k profit of he works for between 13-16h ours non stop(if you don't own the car). It is very taxing on the body but you must do it to survive. What other alternatives are there in this economy that can earn you as much?(I am not referring to white collar jobs). There are not much. In civilized countries, the workers are protected somewhat from vulture capitalists. There are labour laws that serve to protect the interest of the worker. If these laws are not followed, the company pays dearly. Do you know for instance that in many countries(Kenya and UK are good examples)By law, employers cannot unilaterally cut an employee's pay. If, in exceptional circumstances such as the current recession, employees agree, they need to be aware of the implications for any subsequent redundancy payment and their pension rights. We don't have such things here, so employees and workers are forced to become Wage slaves So what is the essence of my epistle. Romeo3 and others who seem enlightened should not castigate others for complaining, rather should be encouraging others to see how they can transit from becoming wage slaves to becoming real capitalists. In a country like Nigeria, the capitalist is king( this is true in all other countries), but the worker is a slave( peculiar to Nigeria and some other countries). I don't know you Romeo3 but I sense you are a car owner(possibly multiple cars) this kind of insulates you from the sufferings of others. That's okay by me, you have worked hard to earn your status. However, I don't want you to look down on people complaining. Encourage them and let's see how we can pull each other up. |
dckng16:Since the day I carried someone from Surulere to Magboro, and Uber calculated about 1800, I have stopped accepting Uber requests for long trips to outskirt areas like Ikorodu, Arepo, Magboro, Ibafo, Mowe, Agbara, Badagry, Sangotedo down to Ibeju Lekki. Once I get your request, and I call you and you say you are going to Badagry for instance. I will tell you that we MUST agree on an offline price. If you refuse and insist we must do it on Uber, I will cancel your trip and wait for another request. Uber to those areas is not profitable at all especially when you consider that you will not get another trip after you drop them until you drive down into town. |
dckng16:Its not too late to make a complaint since it happened within the last 72 hours. They will refund you. Unfortunately, by my calculation, that trip will not be more than 700 naira. Still complain sha. Half bread is better than puff puff. |
dreamchaser14:No need for the insult. He simply meant that there where riders everywhere. |
mazinaija:That occurred to me too, coupled with the fact that people have traveled for summer holidays with their kids. However, that can't be a major reason. I don't think the number of people who use Uber to drop and pick their children from school is so significant that they caused such a drop in demand. |
xana101:The 25% commission they collect is a global policy. They don't go below 20% anywhere in the world. Its a company policy. There is nothing the Nigerian office can do about it. |
OlugbengaE:My brother, that's why I don't work without surge or promo. Uber can be slavery. As I talk to you now, i am offline, parked somewhere in VI. I am waiting for surge to come up in Lekki. If it doesn't come, I will go home and drink my garri jejely. Slave trade ended decades ago. I won't put myself in that condition again |
