Culture / Why Lagos Does Not Belong To Yorubas – Oba Akiolu by Elose11(m): 10:12am On Nov 28, 2023
The Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, has claimed that Lagos State is not part of Yoruba land.

Akiolu’s statement is coming barely a week after he publicly humiliated the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi at an event.

In a statement from Akiolu’s palace, the monarch traced the historical background of the state and why it should not be regarded as part of Yoruba land.

The statement reads: “Coming from the palace, with what I was told by my late paternal grandmother who is a descendant of Oba Ovonramwen Nogbaisi and also reading from factual Historical books, let me share this Knowledge with you all on Eko/Lagos.

“Modern day Lagos was founded by Prince Ado, the son of the Oba of Benin, Prince Ado was the first Oba of Lagos, the son of the Bini King, Prince Ado, named the town Eko until the Portuguese explorer Ruy de Segueira changed the Maritime town to Lagos, which at that time from 1942 was Portuguese expedition center down the African Coast.

“It was a major centre of the slave trade until 1851. Lagos was annexed by Britain via the Lagos treaty of cession in 1861, ending the consular period and starting the British Colonial Period. The remainder of modern day Nigeria was seized in 1886 when the Colony and Protectorate of Nigeria was established in 1914 Lagos was declared its capital due to the struggle of the Bini King.

“Lagos experienced growth prior to the British Colonial rule and even more rapid growth during the Colonial rule throughout the 1960s, 70s, continued through the 80s and 90s till date. Thanks to the Awori’s, Bini’s, Yoruba’s, migrants across the nation and world at large, as no particular group of people can take the glory alone.

“Lagos is made up of Lagoons and creeks. The Lagos lagoon, Lagos Harbour, five cowne creeks, Ebute-Metta creeks, Porto-Novo creeks, New canal, Badagry creeks, Kuramo waters and Light house creeks.

“The Awori’s and Bini’s are known to be the first settlers of the Eko land. The Awori’s are speakers of a distinct dialect close to that of the Yoruba language with a rich Bini mixture. Traditionally, Awori’s were found in Ile-Ife, they were known to be the Bini’s who followed their self-exiled Prince, the first son of the Ogiso (now called Oba) of Benin Kingdom, whose step-mother was after his head.

“The exiled Benin Prince Izoduwa known to the Yorubas as Ooduwa (Oduduwa) was made ruler of the Ife people due to his powers and followers from the Great Benin-Kingdom.

“Izoduwa (Ooduwa) was made the first King of Ile-Ife in 1230 AD. His followers from his father’s Kingdom in Benin are the today’s Awori people who settled in Eko now called Lagos.

“In the 1300, the King of Benin-Empire heard from one of his traders who was a settler in Eko on how the Bini’s were treated by the Awori’s who lived in their area. Upon hearing this, the King of Benin commanded the assembling of a war expedition, led by his son, Prince Ado, which headed the settlement of the Awori’s and demanded explanation.

“On arriving Eko, Prince Ado and his Army were more than received. The Aworis asked the Bini Prince to stay and become their leader. Ado agreed on the condition that they surrender their sovereignty to the Oba of Benin, to which the people agreed. Hearing this, the King of Benin gave his permission for Prince Ado and the expedition to remain in Eko.

“The Oba of Benin sent some of his chiefs including the Eletu, Odibo, Obanikoro and others to assist his son, Oba Ado in the running of Eko.

“From the crowing of Prince Ado as the first Oba of Lagos (then called Eko), Lagos served as a major center for slave trade from which the Aworis, the Oba of Benin and his son the Oba of Lagos and all the children/descendants who took over as his successors for over four centuries supported the trade.

“The Oba of Benin was the head of the Benin Empire which are the present day Western, Southern and Eastern modern day Nigeria. The King never obliged anyone to speak the Bini language as he believed everyone was entitled to their own choice of language.

“The name Eko was given to it by the first king of Lagos, Oba Ado, the young and vibrant Prince from Benin. Eko was the land now known as Lagos Island, where the king palace was built.

“The palace is called Idugaran meaning “palace built on pepper farm” Oba Ado and the warriors from Benin together with the early Bini’s settlers in Eko and the Awori people settled in the southern part of Eko called “Isale Eko”. “Isale literally means bottom “. Must have been used to indicate downtown (as in down town Lagos)

“Until the coming in of the Benin’s 1300AD , Lagos geographical boundary was Lagos mainland, Lagos Island, the seat of the Oba of Lagos then consisted of a pepper farm and fishing post. No one was living there.

“About 1450 AD some Yorubas who hailed from Isheri in Ogun-state and Ekiti were allowed by the King to settle in Eko during a war, they came in a very large numbers thereby surpassing the numbers of the Awori’s and Bini’s. (Hence Yorubas claim to own Eko due to their numbers).

“Oba Ado fell in love with a beautiful woman whose father was Awori and mother a daughter to one of the chief; they had two sons and also a daughter Erelu Kuti, who begot Ologun Kutere who later became king".

Benin borrowed monarchy system of government from Oduduwa.

Now, answer. What is the name of Oduduwa father in Benin since you claimed he came from Benin? grin
The name of the father of Oduduwa was Ogiso Owodo. The last Ogiso of Igodomigodo, the name Benin was known then.
Benin did not borrow monarchy from Oduduwa. Oduduwa, a Benin prince, was already trained in art of statecraft before he was banished from Benin.

forgiveness:

If Oduduwa was from Benin, why did Benin send emissaries to Oduduwa to replicate the system of monarchy rule in Ile Ife?

What was his father's name in Benin? grin
Oduduwa was a crown prince in Benin. He had issue with some Benin chiefs and was set up to be killed. Those that were to kill him sets him free outside Benin, and told him never to come back. It is while running for his life that he came to Ile Ife. Ile Ife people recognized the royalty in him and made him their king. After many years, the Benin heard he was alive when there was a succession issue in Benin. So they sent their chiefs to Ile Ife to convince him to come back to Benin and take over the throne of his late father. Not trusting them because of his past experiences, he refused to go back with them and rather sent his youngest son Oramiyan to rule Benin in his place.
So you can see that it was Benin that introduced their monarchy to Ile Ife and not the other way round

In his usual frank manner, the Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, in Osun state, Monday said Oduduwa came from somewhere before he settled at Ile-Ife which is contrary to the erroneous belief that Yorubas are from Ile-Ife.

He advised some historians who are reportedly gathered to document the history of Ile-Ife not to limit their research work to the town if they want to be objective in their research.

In a statement personally made available to our correspondent in Osogbo, Oluwo stated that the historians would be putting limitations on Yoruba’s far-reach historical greatness and accomplishments if they limited their research work to Ile-Ife.

He asserted that Oduduwa migrated to Ile-Ife and launched the traditional system of governance with the crown as a symbol of authority, saying that the historians must dig further into the origin and originality of Oduduwa as a descendant of “Ola Mu Iru Dudu Yi” shortened to Lamurudu.

“Yorubas are naturally from greatness. Humanity started from us. We are the descendants of Lamurudu, the first mightiest man to build the tallest house. Our history is beyond Oduduwa and Ile-Ife. Limiting our history to the duo is tantamount to restraint our ancestors from great accomplishments and achievements of the past.

“I challenge Professors of Yorubas to research the origin and originality of Oduduwa. We have to objectively trace his lineage and origin. He came from somewhere before he settled at Ile-Ife. This implies that Yorubas are not originally from Ile-Ife. In documenting the history of the Yorubas, all ancient crowns and stakeholders with genuine interest must be incorporated. We are victor, great and rich. Hence, we must establish our origin to be greater and richer than our forbearers,” Oluwo said.

He maintained that to be accepted, Yoruba ancestors/ancestral home must be traced to pure, unadulterated Yoruba-speaking ancient towns which their intonation can be device to write and pass Yoruba examinations with recognized bodies such as JAMB, WAEC, and NECO.

“I’m a descendant of Oduduwa. Empirically, the origin of humanity is pointing to the Yorubas. The first man created, Adamo, was a Yoruba. I’ve researched in books and beyond on the coinage of Adamo. I’ve extended my findings to the Yoruba religion which is worshipping of direct access to Olodumare without intermediaries, Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism e.t.c to know the meaning of Adamo. I’ve been vindicated by many revelations. In the dictionary, Adamo means “created from the red earth” meaning “Eni ti a da ninu amo. I’m throwing it open for further academic investigation by Yoruba professors.

“Oduduwa migrated from somewhere before he settled at Ile-Ife with a crown as a symbol of authority. He was coming from somewhere. Our research should focus on ancient cities speaking pure, unadulterated Yoruba language (Yoruba Ajumolo) accepted by bodies conducting Yoruba examinations such as WAEC, JAMB, and NECO,” Oluwo said.

Politics / Retirement Letter To Tinubu By FFK: by Elose11(m): 3:24pm On Apr 29, 2022
By Femi Fani-Kayode

My dearest Jagaban,

You know very well that I have always liked and respected you. You will also recall that a few years ago I warned you that everything that is being done to you today would eventually be done to you given the choices you made at the time.

I bear you no malice or ill-will but in view of what is happening in your political party and given the fact that your good friend, co-conspirator and collaborator, President Muhammadu Buhari, has finally thrown you under the bus and dumped you, I am constrained to write the following.

The bitter truth is that you predicted NOTHING and you saw NOTHING. The only thing you saw were your own vain delusions and insatiable greed and the only thing you felt and that moved you was your blind ambition.

You sold your body, spirit and soul to the enemy and betrayed your people even though we warned you over and over again that those you were dining with were far smarter and far more astute than you.

Yet even though all the signs were there you dismissed our concerns, vilified us, treated us with contempt, demonized us and sought to destroy us.

Now the chickens have come home to roost and the writing is on the wall. The signs are there for all to see. You betrayed and sold Lagos. You betrayed and sold the South West. You betrayed and sold the South East. You betrayed and sold the South South. You betrayed and sold the Middle Belt. You betrayed and sold the North East. You betrayed and sold the North West. You betrayed and sold the Muslims and you betrayed and sold the Christians.

Simply put you betrayed and sold EVERYTHING and EVERYONE in Nigeria just to feed and satisfy your psychotic obsession and compulsive ambition.

Like Icarus the Greek, you flew too high and too close to the sun with your wax wings, puffed up and fuelled by your hubris and pride and now you shall meet your nemesis. The spiritual wound that has been inflicted on you is irreversible and terminal and there is no going back.

The dark clouds that lie ahead of you are thick, ugly, frightful, violent and impassable: you cannot make it through them safely or survive them. Your enemies have dug a pit for you and you have already fallen into it.

They have finally stripped you naked, grabbed you by your balls and taken everything from you.

You have lost your mystique, honor, glory, self-respect, following, clout, pride, reputation and so much more. You have also lost control of the political party that you conceived, formed, nurtured and built. The APC was your baby and now they have taken it from you and are set to kill it.

They fooled you, used you, dimped you and humiliated you and now they are going to expose you, rubbish you, malign you, break you, crucify you, investigate you and utterly crush you.

You dreamed of being Vice President in 2015 and you failed. You are dreaming of being President in 2023 and you will fail.

In all your plans what you failed to appreciate is that God alone rules in the affairs of men. You refused to acknowledge or accept the fact that the Presidency of Nigeria can only be given by God and He gives it to whom He deems fit by prophecy and divine decree.

It is not about money and power and if it were Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Yar’adua, Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari, who had neither of the two before being respectively elected as President, would never had made it.

It is about God and God alone. It is for Him alone to give. It is about His purpose, His will, His counsel, His plan and His glory.

He OWNS the Presidency and the minute any man or woman attempts to usurp His role and think that he or she can buy it or manoeuvre his or her way into it by the usage of political intrigues, guile, sagacity, wisdom, power, knowledge, money or anything else, the Lord disqualifies and rejects him.

Such a person will fail woefully and may even end up losing everything he or she values and cherishes in his futile quest.

God will never share His glory with anyone and He will never support a man or woman that is prepared to mislead, betray and sell his own people down the river just to satisfy his vaulting and insatiable ambition of becoming President.

Yet the signs were there but you refused to acknowledge or accept them.

They refused to give you a formal position in the National Executive. They ensured that some of your key loyalists in the South West turned against you and opposed you.

They refused to accept even ONE of your Ministerial nominees both in 2015 and 2019. They humiliated your protegee who you nominated as Vice President and turned him into a pliant and pathetic little errand boy with no testicular fortitude or shame.

They drove your nominee at FIRS out of office unceremoniously and have placed him under criminal investigation.

They have divided the ranks of your loyalists and turned even your hitherto most trusted lieutenants against you.

They insulted, undermined, marginalised you openly and worse of all they made it clear to you privately that they would NEVER give you power.

All this meant nothing to you and you shamelessly continued to support their evil ways and toe their satanic and murderous line.

Yet if you did not care about what they subjected you to you ought to have at least cared about what they did to Nigeria.

For the last five years our nation and people have suffered because of the calamitious choices that you made and the inexplicable and unconciable alliances that you forged.

You propped up and supported a ruthless, heartless, corrupt, bloodthirsty and cruel regime and tyrant and a President that is clearly beside himself and whose mental and physical faculties reside in another realm and in another world.

Consequently our nation has been utterly and completely destroyed, our economy ruined and our people decimated.

They have been slaughtered, butchered, pauperised, emasculated, humiliated, marginalised, insulted and impoverished.

Hundreds of thousands of them have been murdered in cold blood in their homes, towns, villages and farms and millions have been displaced.

Millions more have been ruined and economically destroyed whilst our country remains weak, divided and the butt of cruel jokes all over the world.

Because of your choices Nigerians are being subjected to persecution, physically attacked, enslaved, humiliated, lynched, scorned, maimed, killed, disgraced, evicted and declared persona non grata both at home and in distant foreign lands whilst our foreign Embassies are being demolished by miscreants and local criminals even in supposedly friendly countries.

I sincerely hope thet one day you will reflect on all this and consider the damage you have done to your kinsmen and compatriots.

Whether you do or not is left to you but one thing that is clear: for the choices you have made, for all you have done and for the sheer wickedness and greed that resides in your insensitive and dark heart you will pay a heavy price both in this world and in the world to come and the Lord will hand you over to your political enemies.

Permit me to conclude by quoting the instructive words of a tweet that I posted just yesterday after I heard about the latest developments in your party. I wrote,

“First Oshiomole is kicked out by the Court of Appeal. Then his preferred replacement, Ajimobi, falls into a coma. Then his arch rival, Giadom, is recognised by Buhari as National Chairman.

Conclusion: it is over for Tinubu. He has been thrown under the bus and retired from politics!”

I stand by those words. Happy retirement my dearest Jagaban: may you live long to see the glory of our country restored and the damage that you have done to our people repaired. Shalom.

Culture / Was There Really An Oyo Empire? by Elose11(m): 10:20pm On Sep 30, 2021
It was the British historians such as professor Robin Law, swayed by Reverend Samuel Johnson’s pretentious history of the Yorubas, that invented the claim that by the 1860s, Oyo had become the greatest empire in precolonial Nigeria. However, all the earliest writers of Yoruba history such as the Danmasanin Katsina and Sultan Bello in the 1880s, never mentioned of the existence of any Oyo empire.

The first Europeans to visit Oyo itself, including captain Hugh Clapperton and the Lander brothers never recorded that Oyo was an empire and neither did they speak of any great empire in the Oyo vicinity.

In 1668, Olfert Dapper described the Benin kingdom in details, but never mentioned any nearby great Oyo kingdom. However, the first documented mention of Oyo was two years later in 1671.

For hundreds of years, no precolonial European map mentioned any Oyo kingdom, let alone Oyo empire, even though the same European maps repeatedly depicted the Benin, Zegzeg, Borno and other kingdoms of those days.

More importantly, there has not been any documented evidence to prove that Oyo once conquered its neighbors into and empire. Dahomey, Akure, Ile Ife, Ilesha, the Owu, Ijesha, the Egba, Ijebu, the Ondos, the Owo, the Ugho, the Ekiti and a host of others, were never part of any Oyo empire.

Instead, in 1793, the Portuguese resident Archibald Dalzel, wrote as a living witness, that the Oyo kingdom was part of the Nupe empire, and was still paying annual tributes to the Etsu Nupes at the end of the 18th century.

The question we should ask ourselves is, how could Oyo have been one of the greatest empires in precolonial Nigerian history by the 1690s, when over one hundred years later in the 1790s, it was still a small kingdom paying tributes to the Etsu Nupes?

Bishop David Oyedepo, President and founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, has described President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration as evil filled with wilderness.

The world’s second richest pastor made the remark on Sunday during a sermon at the church’s headquarters, Canaanland, Ota in Ogun State.

Oyedepo who was speaking on the power of prophecy, said he warned Nigerians in 2015 prior to President Buhari’s victory, stressing that some fellows were angered by his prophecy until they are now faced with the reality.

In his words, “I am privileged to be among the few God shows things long before they happen.

“Some fellows were upset with me when I was talking against this evil government.

“I told this Nation, you are heading for trouble: 2015. Are they in trouble or in turbulence? Turbulence.
“I saw the wickedness of the wicked being forced on the land. Now no direction, no motion.

“When a Prophet speaks, he speaks the heart of God”.

1. You could have over-inflated the bed, so it is stretched out in the middle. To fix this, just deflate and let some air come out until it balances and evens the surface out.

2. There could be an internal leakage ( non visible ):- In rare cases there could be a leakage under the fabric outer layer that you cannot see and cannot patch . Most people will tell you throw your bed away but there is a fix. Steps :-

(a) Deflate
(b) Tear open the suede / fabric our covering . Be careful not to use force or blade as you can make a mistake and tear the rubber inside. It comes off quite easily whenever there is an internal leak. Remove the suede completely.
(c) Next you pump the bed. During the new pump process you will notice there is no more bulge.
(d) Be patient and find where the leakage is by putting up the bed against a wall and putting your ear 2 inches away. When you find the leak, half of your problems are solved.
(e) Use some duct tape or clear tape to block the leak. This is temporary .
(d) You can decide to cut out some of the rubber patch and place it over the hole ( with some carp-enters glue).
(e) You can also find experts that can cover up the leak cheap.

Pls how do I fix mine?. The burge is on the head side. Its s big, that it's making me uncomfortable. It wasn't like this before. I've used it regularly for about 2 months now. Tried to upload the pictures. unable to.

Politics / There Was No Oyo Empire By Ndagi Abdullahi Amana Nupe by Elose11(m): 4:31pm On Apr 04, 2021
It was British historians like Professor Robin Law, swayed by Reverend Samuel Johnson’s pretentious History of the Yorubas, who invented the claim that by the 1690s Oyo had become the greatest Empire in pre-Colonial Nigeria.¹ But all the earliest writers on Yoruba, including the Danmasanin Katsina² and Sultan Bello in the 1830s,³ never mention any Oyo Empire.

The first Europeans to visit Oyo itself, including Captain Hugh Clapperton⁴ and the Lander brothers,⁵ never wrote that Oyo was an empire. In 1668 Olfert Dapper described the Benin Kingdom in details but never mentioned any nearby great Oyo Kingdom.⁶

In fact, the first documented mention of Oyo was two years later in 1671.⁷ For hundreds of years no pre-Colonial European map mention any Oyo Kingdom, let alone Oyo Empire, even though the same European maps repeatedly depicted the Benin, Zegzeg, Borno, and other kingdoms of those days.

More importantly, there is no any documentary evidence that Oyo ever conquered its neighbours into an Empire.⁸ Dahomey, Akure, Ile Ife, Ilesha, the Owu, Ijesha, the Egba, Ijebu, the Ondos, the Owo, the Ugbo, the Ekiti, etc., were never part of any phantom Oyo Empire.⁹ Instead, in 1793 the Portuguese Resident Archibald Dalzel, wrote as a living witness that the Oyo Kingdom was part of the Nupe Empire and was still paying annual tributes to the Etsu Nupes at the end of the 18th century.

How could Oyo had been the greatest Empire in pre-Colonial Nigeria by the 1690s when one hundred years later in the 1790s it was still a small kingdom paying annual tribute to the Etsu Nupes?
