Politics / EFCC Freezes Bola Shagaya’s N500m Account Over Patience Jonathan's Probe by Eltigre7: 4:30am On Nov 06, 2016
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has frozen a bank account belonging to Mrs. Bola Shagaya, a businesswoman which Forbes Magazine described as one of the wealthiest in Africa.

It was learnt that Shagaya, who is founder and Chief Executive Officer of Bolmus Group International – a diversified Nigerian conglomerate with interests in oil, real estate, banking, communications and photography – had become a subject of investigation due to her links to Dame Patience Jonathan, the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Sources within the EFCC told SUNDAY PUNCH that Shagaya’s account with Unity Bank with a balance of N500m was frozen.

The business tycoon, who is also the Managing Director of Practoil Limited, one of the largest importers and distributors of base oil in Nigeria, was said to have made suspicious payments into bank accounts belonging to Patience, who has been under EFCC investigation for about six months.

A source at the EFCC said, “When we were investigating Patience and looking into her accounts, we discovered that Bola Shagaya had been making huge and regular payments into her (Patience’s) bank account.

“We then discovered that the monies were kickbacks. The Ministry of Trade and Investment gave suspicious commission to Shagaya’s company on every crude oil sent abroad. The commission was put in an account for Bola Shagaya. The money will then go to Patience’s account. So we started investigating her.

“We were able to trace the N500m to her account at Unity Bank. So, we placed a ‘No Debit Order’ on the account.”

The source said when Shagaya realised that her account had been frozen, she rushed down to the bank and tried to use her position as a board member of the bank to lift the restriction.

The detective added, “When she heard about the restriction, she ran down to the bank to stop the order from being carried out. We then called the bank to let them know that doing such would amount to a criminal conspiracy. At that point, she had no choice.”

When contacted on Saturday night, Shagaya said, “Please, don’t call this number. I am sleeping. Write anything you want to write.”

The Head of Corporate Communications, Unity Bank, Matthew Obiazikwor, could not be reached for comments as his phone line was switched off and a text message sent to him had not been responded to as of the time of filing this report.

Patience attempts to withdraw $5m from frozen account

Sources within the EFCC also told our correspondent that it foiled a fresh attempt by Patience Jonathan to withdraw $5m from her frozen account during the week.

The source said the commission was informed by Skye Bank that Patience had placed a standing order for $5m to be withdrawn from the account but it was stopped.

The detective added, “We received an alert from Skye Bank during the week that Patience attempted to withdraw $5m from her personal account titled Patience Ibifaka Jonathan which is domiciled at the bank.

“We immediately told the bank not to allow any withdrawal because a ‘No Debit Order’ had been placed on the account.”

It will be recalled that the EFCC had frozen four other company accounts with a balance of $15m. The accounts were linked to a former Special Adviser to Jonathan on Domestic Affairs, Waripamowei Dudafa.

However, during the arraignment of Dudafa and the directors of the companies, Patience filed an application claiming ownership of the money.

She subsequently asked the court to lift the restriction on the accounts.

On Wednesday the directors of the companies pleaded guilty to money laundering. The EFCC applied for the money to be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government, a request which has been deferred by the Federal High Court.

Politics / Recs, Officials Under Bribery Probe Won’t Supervise Elections –INEC by Eltigre7: 2:39am On Nov 01, 2016
The Independent National Electoral Commission has said none of its officials, who are undergoing investigations for alleged bribery, will be assigned any electoral duty.

It said the officials, whose names were on the list sent to it by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, would be barred from electoral duty until they cleared themselves of the bribery allegations against them.

Though none of those under investigation had been suspended by INEC or indicted by the EFCC, the electoral umpire stated on Monday that it would be morally wrong to continue to assign electoral duties to the suspects.

It was gathered that the EFCC sent a letter to INEC and demanded the release of over 100 officers for interrogation for alleged bribery during the 2015 general elections.

The Chairman of the commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, had earlier confirmed the number of the suspects, saying at the end of the investigations, those found guilty would be fired by the commission.

Some states’ Resident Electoral Commissioners were allegedly bribed before, during and after the 2015 polls.

Many electoral officers and others were also said to have been involved in the alleged bribery scandal.

The bribe cash was said to have been disbursed by a bank from the N23bn deposited in the bank by the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman of INEC, Mr. Rotimi Oyekanmi, who spoke with our correspondent in Abuja on Monday, said none of those under investigation would be used in the November 26 governorship election in Ondo State.

He added that until the concerned officers were cleared by the EFCC, they would not be used for any electoral duty.

Oyekanmi stated, “We have made it clear to them that none of those whose names appeared on the list sent by the EFCC would be involved in any electoral duty.

“Using them will send a wrong signal to the people about our integrity and all that.

“Though these people have yet to be indicted and they remain innocent until proved guilty, we have to safeguard the integrity of the commission as well.

“That is why we have placed embargo on them concerning electoral duties. There are other jobs they could do at the commission, but not electoral duty.”

He said the commission was poised to conduct a free, fair and credible election in Ondo State.

A former REC in Rivers State, Mrs. Gesila Khan, and other top INEC officials in the South-South geopolitical zone were alleged to have received N675.1m from the poll bribe cash.

Reliable sources at the EFCC had alleged that Khan, who was later redeployed as the REC in Cross River State, allegedly received N185.8m ahead of the March 28 and April 11, 2015 elections.

The commission also arrested one Oluchi Obi Brown, who, as the INEC administrative secretary in Delta State, allegedly received over N111m.

Further investigations by detectives revealed that Brown had about $75,000 in an account in the United States.

The anti-graft agency also arrested one Edem Effanga, who is a retired INEC official. Effanga was arrested alongside his alleged accomplice, Immaculata Asuquo, who was the Head, Voter Education of INEC in Akwa Ibom State.

Effanga was alleged to have received over N240m, which he shared among INEC ad hoc workers during the elections.

Politics / Jonathan Was Never Committed To Defeating Boko Haram – Osinbajo by Eltigre7: 2:08am On Nov 01, 2016
Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo said on Monday that despite what his administration might want people to believe, former President Goodluck Jonathan was never committed to ending the Boko Haram insurgency during his tenure.

Osinbajo said this in a lecture titled, “The unraveling of Boko Haram and the rebuilding of the North-East of Nigeria” which he delivered at the Harvard University’s Weatherland Centre for International Affairs, United States.

The Vice-President’s media office made the speech available to journalists on Monday.

While attributing his position to many factors, Osinbajo said it was politically convenient for the then ruling Peoples Democratic Party to claim that the Boko Haram sect was sponsored by a northern-Muslim political elite to discredit the government led by a Christian.

He recalled that when the All Progressives Congress was formed, the then ruling party was also quick to paint it (APC) as the political wing of the Boko Haram sect.

He said it was not until President Muhammadu Buhari who was then the leader of the opposition, was nearly killed in an attack in Kaduna that the false narrative began to lose credibility.

The Vice-President added, “Secondly, the ruling party also somewhat cynically seemed to have considered that since BH attacks were actually in the heartland of the opposition it was not necessarily an unwelcome development as it could only weaken the opposition.

“Third, extensive corruption in arms procurement estimated at about $15bn, ensured that the military remained poorly equipped and demoralised.

“A number of well-publicised mutinies occurred and troops involved were taken through widely unpopular court-martials.

“As the government dithered and equivocated BH proceeded to realise the objective of occupying territory and establishing Islamist states in Nigeria and in the Lake Chad basin.

“In Borno State alone, it occupied and hoisted its flag in 20 of the 27 Local Government Areas that constituted the state. In Adamawa State, BH took Mubi and some villages in Yobe State.”

Osinbajo said it was not until the abduction of more than 200 secondary schoolgirls from their dormitories in Chibok that public outrage against Jonathan’s government’s inept handling of the insurgency reached its peak.

He added that the government then incurred widespread anger when it denied that an abduction took place and suggested that the opposition had simply invented the story.

Osinbajo, however, said Buhari’s assumption of office changed the tide.

He said the strongest reasons for Buhari’s victory in the March 2015 presidential election was the expectation that going by his reputation as a no-nonsense soldier, he would defeat Boko Haram and restore peace to the North-East.

True to type, he said within six months of Buhari’s Presidency, the sect had been effectively dislodged from all the local governments they once held and had retreated into the Sambisa Forest and the northern border towns and villages.

He said the terrorists’ military capacity had been severely degraded and their supply lines effectively blocked.

Osinbajo said the ability of Boko Haram to get willing suicide bombers remained a mystery.

Politics / Abuja Power Firm Disconnects APC Secretariat Over N1.2m Debt by Eltigre7: 1:46am On Nov 01, 2016
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company has disconnected electricity supply to the National Headquarters of the All Progressives Congress over its inability to settle a N1.2m debt.

The secretariat is on Blantyre Street, Wuse 11 Abuja..

It was learnt in Abuja, on Monday, that the AEDC is seeking a balance of N1.2m after the party paid N.5m out of the outstanding N1.7m debt accumulated over time.

A copy of the receipt of payment of the N.5m pasted at the entrance of the party secretariat indicated that the payment was made on October 24, 2016 via a Zenith Bank cheque, with deposit slip number: 316088.

The document also has PHCN receipt number: 0024102016000 and payment reference number: ZIB/PHCN/24-10-2016 with the (original) customer name written as the Nigeria Export Promotion Council clearly written out.

A member of staff of the AEDC, however, confided in our correspondent that the disconnection was actually carried out close to two weeks ago “when the management felt the party has not shown sufficient commitment towards meeting its obligations.”

The source said, “I understand they have made a part payment of N500, 000 out of the debt. I cannot say if this gesture is sufficient to enable us to restore power to the building.”

None of the party officials was willing to speak on the record about the issue because “it is too embarrassing.”

However, a high ranking party member who spoke in confidence said, “You know the country is in recession. We are not immune to the funding challenges facing other sectors of the Nigerian economy.

“In fact, I think Nigerians will now know that this is a departure from the immediate past because we are the governing party it does not mean we can dip our hands into the national treasury to meet our obligations.”

The source was however silent on what happened to funds generated from the sales of expression of interest and nomination forms for the Edo and Ondo states governorship elections estimated to be in excess of N100m.

Attempts to get an official reaction to this development failed.

Calls to the mobile telephone number of the party’s National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, were neither picked nor returned, a text message sent to him had yet to be replied as of the time of filing this report.

Similar calls to the party’s National Secretary, Mai Mala Buni, indicated that it was switched off. A response to a text message sent to him was also being expected as of the time of filing this report.

Most of the power distribution companies have described unpaid bills and vandalism as some of their biggest challenges.

Politics / Lagos PDP Commends Ambode Over Abandoned Projects by Eltigre7: 1:06am On Nov 01, 2016
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Lagos State has commended the administration of Governor Akinwumi Ambode for resuscitating abandoned projects under the Babatunde Fashola government saying there are signs that Lagosians are feeling the impact of Governor Ambode in Lagos.

In a statement by its publicity secretary, Mr Taofik Gani, the party warned President Muhammadu Buhari against relying on the unverified claims of achievements of Fashola as minister of Power, Works and Housing.

According to the party, “Without adopting the government of Ambode, at least we can now see signs of government presence in some erstwhile abandoned areas under Fashola.”

The party accused the former governor of allegedly promoting mediocrity, propaganda and inappropriate speculation. The party opiend that Fashola was unfit, as a lawyer to occupy such combined ministries of engineering specialities.”

The party said: “This patriotic advise is on the heels of the minister celebrating a proposed injection of a mere 30 megawatts of power from the gurara-hydro power plant, when indeed the minister has collected monumental funding well enough to have injected over 500 megawats into the National grid.”

Politics / Buhari Didn’t Ask Amaechi To Compromise Election Judgments by Eltigre7: 2:14am On Oct 31, 2016
The Presidency, on Sunday, broke its silence on the allegations of inducement raised by two of the judges arrested recently, saying President Muhammadu Buhari would never authorise anybody to induce a judge to pervert the course of justice.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said this in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja.

That was the Presidency’s first official reaction to allegations by two of the embattled judges, who claimed that the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, approached them allegedly on the instruction of the President to influence decisions on election cases.

A Justice of the Supreme Court, Sylvester Ngwuta, who was one of those arrested by the Department of State Services between October 7 and 8, had, in a letter dated October 18, 2016 and addressed to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, alleged that Amaechi had impressed it upon him that the President was interested in the judgments of the Supreme Court on Ekiti and Rivers elections going in favour of the All Progressives Congress.

Another apex court Justice, John Okoro, had also claimed that Amaechi told him that the President and the APC mandated him to inform him (Okoro) that they must win the governorship election appeals in Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Abia states at all cost.

But Shehu, in the statement, advised journalists and other Nigerians to stop linking Buhari to the travails of the judges.

“President Muhammadu Buhari would be the last person to authorise anybody to induce a judge to pervert the course of justice,” he said.

The presidential aide noted that despite his personal familiarity with some judges, the President never used that to seek favours from them in 2003, 2007 and 2011, when Buhari challenged the fairness of the presidential election results, from the lowest to the highest courts in the land.

Crime / Bureau De Change Robbed Of N12m In Benin by Eltigre7: 1:58am On Oct 31, 2016
Robbers, weekend, raided a bureau de change, BDC, office at Sakpoba Road, Benin, and allegedly carted away over N12 million naira.

It was learned that the robbers, who dressed like men of Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, trailed one of the traders, who went to the bank to withdraw money to the office.

Vanguard gathered that the robbers followed the victim to his office quietly, while people around thought they were men from the SARS, who escorted the victim to the bank.

However, there was pandemonium when the robbers started shooting sporadically into the air after they robbed the victim of about N9 million and another victim of N3 million.

The robbers, who were said to have stormed the scene in a Prado SUV, immediately ordered everybody to lie down, while they continued shooting as they left the scene.

Policemen, who came after the robbers had escaped, were booed by the angry traders and sympathisers, who castigated the policemen for failing to arrive the scene on time.

One of the traders, Alhaji Haruna, lamented that “each time these criminals come here to attack us, policemen will never come on time.

“We do not know whether the police are conniving with them to rob us. It is really sad and we have been calling the police to come. And the people came dressed like SARS members. So we do not know what is happening.”

When contacted, the police spokesman in the state, Stephen Onwuchei, said he was not in town so did not have details of the incident.

Politics / Niger-Delta Leaders Reject FG’s $10bn Development Package by Eltigre7: 1:33am On Oct 31, 2016
AHEAD of their meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, tomorrow, strong indications emerged, yesterday, that elders, leaders and stakeholders of the Niger Delta Region have rejected the Federal Government’s move to launch a $10 billion (N4 trillion) infrastructural rebirth investment programme in the area.

The multi-trillion naira programme is part of the Short and Medium Term Priorities to Grow Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Industry (2015 to 2019), tagged the ‘7 BigWins’, a new initiative of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources.

Dismissing the proposal as a blackmail since there is no money to fund it, the Niger-Delta leaders said it is imperative to tell President Buhari that they are rejecting the move because it is private sector-driven with the aim of dragging the government into it.

“At the end of the day, other Nigerians will say why complain when you have $10 billion and the money is not there in the first place. If the companies have such money, they should pay the money owed the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, rather than blackmail the region with such money,” they said.

These are part of the issues that would be raised with President Buhari tomorrow. These were also some of the resolutions at the end of a meeting held at the residence of the convener, Chief Edwin Clark at his 43, Haile Selassie Street, Asokoro, Abuja in the wee hours of Saturday.

Clark, a former Federal Commissioner for Information and South-South leader, will lead about 46 traditional rulers, elders and leaders drawn from the academia, civil society, freedom fighters and ethnic nationalities of the six South-South states to meet President Buhari tomorrow.

The leaders said it would be blackmail for the people of the Niger Delta as they were not consulted before the decision was taken and announced, adding that the people should have been carried along and their inputs obtained because they know the problems of the region.

Canvassing a bottoms-up approach instead of a top-bottom strategy, the leaders noted that the people of the region are suffering from oil exploitation, while mining is going on in the North without anyone harassing the people.

The elders also urged President Buhari to jettison moves to change the Maritime University, Okerenkoko, Gbaramatu, Delta State to a polytechnic, against the backdrop that the government did not consult with the people of the region.

The region is also seeking for a special Marshal plan for the Niger Delta, review of the amnesty programme and the need to have a ministerial department that will always be a platform for discussion by the people of the region.

Expected at the parley are the Olu of Warri, His Royal Majesty, Ogiame Ikenwoli; Obong of Calabar, Ekpo Abasi – Otu V; Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Major-General Felix Mujakperuo, retd; first Military Governor of old Rivers State and Amanyanabo of Twon-Brass, King Alfred Papapreye Diete-Spiff; and His Royal Majesty, Pere Charles Ayemi-Botu among others.

Also to attend tomorrow’s meeting are former Akwa Ibom governor, Obong Victor Attah; Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga, Professor G.G. Darah, Chief Timi Alaibe, Ambassador Godknows Igali, Alabo Tonye Graham-Douglas, Alaowei Broderick Bozimo, Chief TKO Okorotie, Hon. Justice Francis Tabai, High Chief Mike Ekayama Loyibo, T.K. Ogoriba, High Chief Wellington Okirika, Chief Justice CET Ayama (retd), Dr. Alfred Mulade, Professor Oserheimen Osunbor, MOSOP leader, Ledum Mitee, former Cross River State governor, Donald Duke; Ambassador Nkoyo Toyo; Brigadier Gen. Idada Ikponmwen, Senator Rowland Owie, Tony Uranta, Chief Dan Ikpebide and Senator Bassey Henshaw among others.

The elders and leaders at the meeting will engage the President on the need for Justice, equity, fairness, confidence-building and consultations with Niger-Delta people prior to taking decisions on their problems.

Other issues to be raised at the parley include the need for restructuring the country and the zone; implementation of the 2014 National Conference report, the Petroleum Industry Bill, PIB, appointments of board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC where membership must reflect oil producing areas, and the need to perfect the protocol of memorandum of understanding, MOU on the ceding of Bakassi, because if not addressed, the people of the area stand the risk of not having a country. The problem in Gbaramatu with military allegedly harassing the people would also be presented before the President. After tomorrow’s meeting, the elders and leaders will ask for an executive session with the President where meaningful discussions would take place.

In his remark at the meeting, Chief Clark, who noted that the issue of not having representatives to negotiate with government for Niger Delta people was gone, saying the people are ready for negotiation. He said if there were issues, the meeting will not be the last, adding that the people are one family, though they are from different communities.

The elder statesman, who stressed the need for unity of purpose, said the people were not fighting the President but wanted government to carry them along.

His words: “We are going to ask for justice, fairness and equity. We are going to tell him that he should dialogue with the people of the Niger Delta and that the use of force is not and cannot be a solution to the Niger Delta crisis.

“He is our President. We will pledge our loyalty to him. We will congratulate him on his election because this is the first time we are seeing him as a people since he won. We are not going to be submitting any long list of demands to him, but we will let him know the need for him to carry the people of Niger Delta along in his government. They should take us as a people who are part of Nigeria. We are not separating from Nigeria.

“It is obvious that the country requires true federalism to move forward. We will tell him that and that is the same thing other parts of the country are asking for. If there is true federalism, we will not have a case of states not being able to pay salaries or maintain themselves. Those (states) that cannot stand on their own will join others.

“Of course, we are going to talk to him about the need to develop Niger Delta. The problem is not lack of ideas on what should be done, the Mitee Technical Committee Report on Niger Delta in 2009 and others are there; the problem is lack of political will to develop the region.”

Politics / One Dies As Protest Turns Bloody by Eltigre7: 1:10am On Oct 31, 2016
The protest in Ondo State, over the weekend, took a bloody dimension as a secondary school student was said to have been hit by the tear gas canister, released by the police in dispersing the rioters in Ondo town, near Ife garage.

This came as opposition political parties in the state, weekend, called for calm and caution over the protests.

The name of the pupil has not been identified as at the time of filling this report.

But Vanguard gathered that the student of St Joseph College was on his way to the school on Friday when he was hit by the canister.

Moreso, Akure, the Ondo State capital, was not left out, as rioters again trooped to the streets, protesting the decision of INEC.

The Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, emerge from his Palace, over the weekend, appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in the Ondo PDP crisis arising from substitution of Eyitayo Jegede with Jimoh Ibrahim as governorship candidate by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) according to court orders.

Aladetoyinbo made the appeal while addressing aggrieved PDP members and the supporters, who again came out in their thousands at his Palace, in Akure.

He also enjoined INEC to be not be partisan.

“The judiciary should also intervene and make sure that all parties get justice because we don’t want any injustice in Ondo State,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the protesters, PDP Chairman in the state, Engr Clement Faboyede, called on the president to prevail on INEC to look into the issue.

“We don’t want Ondo State to be on fire because our state is peaceful. Some cabals in All Progressive Congress (APC) are using Jimoh Ibrahim against the candidacy of Jegede, Jimoh is not a PDP member but rather a card carrying member of Accord party,” he said.

The supporters carried placards with inscriptions such as ‘Return Jegede to us’, Buhari should not interfere in Ondo politics’ and ‘Remember 1983’.

In Akure, the state capital, the protesters led by Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Jumoke Akindele and Ondo State PDP Chairman, Clement Faboyede marched from Alagbaka through the popular Oba Adesida road and climaxed at the Palace of Deji of Akure chanting “Eyitayo is Our Choice.”

The action paralyzed vehicular, business and commercial activities as all shops in the city were under lock and key in solidarity with Eyitayo Jegede.

Meanwhile, the Social Democratic Party, SDP, called on security agents in the state to be more pro-active in combating criminal activities as the governorship election draws near.

In a statement by the state Publicity Secretary, Mr. Remi Olayiwola, the party said that the protest that trailed the removal of Jegede’s name and its replacement with Jimoh Ibrahim had to do with the flag bearer of only one out of the 28 participating political parties in the election.

The SDP said: “The other day, it was the APC disturbing the people of the state, today, it is the PDP. These are political parties in government at various levels in the country. So, if there’s any violence during the forth coming governorship election, the two parties must be held responsible.”

Also, the Alliance for Democracy, AD, condemned the acts of brigandage and blocking of roads by protesters were organized by government.

State Secretary of the party, Sola Agboola called “on the law enforcement agencies to call Governor Mimiko and his protégé, Mr Eyitayo Jegede, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria to order and hold them responsible for any infraction and breakdown of law and order.

THE Jimoh Ibrahim faction of the PDP in the state has accused the state government of stage managing the series of protests in the state.

The faction’s Director of Media and Publicity, Yemi Akintomide said that the move was to “deceive the public that the candidacy of Dr. Jimoh Ibrahim was rejected by the populace.”

Akintomide frowned at the “desperation and pull-it-down at all cost attitude of Governor Mimiko who swore on oath to protect the people and maintain peace and order across the state.

“We call on human right groups to rise against this unholy action of ridiculing, disparaging and dis-humanising the dignity and sanity of womanhood, all in the name playing destructive politics that will do nobody any good.

“We are appealing to our resourceful market women, darling wives, beautiful sisters and brilliant ladies to shun any act capable of jeopardising their hard earn, long standing family names and core values; and not to dishonour and disrespect their dignified bodies to march half naked in exchange for any amount of money not worth the pride of their womanhood.

“We urge Governor Mimiko to toe the line of peace by pursuing the case against Jegede in the appellate courts as demanded by the Constitution.”

He added that “We also urge them not to rest on their oasis by ensuring nobody, no matter how highly placed, further disrupted the relative peace we have been enjoying in our state.

“The AD, as a peaceful party, abhors violence and destruction of public properties and we view with seriousness this shameful act of brigandage to force the hands of the law to do your wish by fire by force as Mr Mimiko is doing.

“The present mayhem is an organised one being perpetrated by the Ondo State Government and not that of the reaction of the people.”

Abuja – The Nigeria Army says suspected Boko Haram terrorists ambushed and killed five soldiers, three vigilantes and one Civilian JTF in Borno on Saturday.

A statement by Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, on Sunday said that 19 other soldiers and one Civilian JTF sustained various degrees of injuries during the attack.

Usman said the troops of Operation Lafiya Dole were ambushed by the terrorists at Ugundiri village, Damboa Local Government Area, while returning to base after clearance operations on suspected Boko Haram terrorists hideouts in Talala and Ajigin in southern Borno

“The bodies of the late soldiers and civilians have been evacuated to Maiduguri, while the injured are receiving commensurate medical care and are in stable condition,” he said.

Usman said that the troops destroyed the terrorists Gun truck and recovered two Anti-Aircraft guns, two spare Gun barrels, one General Purpose Machine Gun, one Rocket Propelled Grenade, one AK-47 rifle and 320 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.

He said that troops had been mobilised into blocking positions to further neutralise fleeing Boko Haram terrorists.

Usman said that another set of troops had earlier cleared Zira, Abulam, Dusula, and Buk villages before returning to base in Bulabulin.

In a related development, the army spokesman said that based on information received about gathering of some suspected Boko Haram terrorists around Bori village, 16km from Mainok, outskirts of Maiduguri, troops swung into action and neutralised them.

“The troops recovered three motorcycles, one hand Grenade, one round of 7.62mm ammunition, solar panel, a pair of Niger Republic military camouflage uniform, one Gionee mobile telephone handset, one wet cell battery and half bag of groundnut,” he said.

Foreign Affairs / Recession: Saudi Dumps Islamic Calendar To Save Funds by Eltigre7: 1:27pm On Oct 03, 2016
The birthplace of Islam containing Mecca – Islam’s holiest site – shifted to the western Gregorian calendar on Sunday, bringing the oil-rich kingdom in line with many of its energy customers.

But the real reason is the need to conserve funds.

Saudi Arabia like other oil exporting countries is facing an unprecedented cash squeeze, with the government slamming salary cuts all over.

The Islamic lunar calendar is actually 15 days shorter than the 365-day solar year. The calculation is that the measure will save the kingdom money by cutting salary days for many public servants.

The kingdom began the use of Islamic calendar since it was founded in 1932, Al Arabiya local news reported.

The Saudi workers will now need to work more days to earn the salaries already sliced by government.

The decision came after the cabinet announced last week the reduction of salaries of ministers and Shura members (advisors).

It was part of an austerity package, including cancellation and amendment of civil servants’ allowances and rewards, such as cancelling the annual bonus.

Saudi Arabia has taken a series of steps to deal with the dropping oil prices in global markets.

In Nigeria, the state governments in Kano and Oyo have declared special holiday to mark the Islamic year, which began on 3 October.

While Kano has declared Tuesday, Oyo state has made Monday a double holiday, one for Nigeria’s independence and the other to mark the Islamic New Year, 1438 AH.

Governor Abiola Ajimobi made the declaration on Sunday at the 1438 Hijrah Grand Rally organised by the National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO) at Ibadan. Oct. 3 is the lunar month of Muharram, which is the first month of the Islamic calendar.

Politics / Indigenous People Of Biafra, IPOB Splits by Eltigre7: 2:10pm On Aug 24, 2016
A faction of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, identified as The Re-branded Indigenous People of Biafra, TRIOPOB, has broken out of the main group over alleged inflexible and defeatist position of IPOB led by Nnamdi Kanu, currently in detention.

Spokesperson of the splinter group, Chima Phillip Effiong Osuji, said the decision to break away as taken at an emergency meeting convened by some disaffected members of IPOB on Monday, August 22, 2016 in Aba, Abia state.

“It was resolved that due to the rigid and fatalistic position of the Nnamdi Kanu- led IPOB, several of us with like minds shall breakaway and form The Rebranded Indigenous People of Biafra, TRIPOB,” he stated.

The new group said that Biafra would not be a reality and on October, 1, 2016, would set ablaze the Biafra flag in Abuja, recite the national anthem and pledge to Nigeria, while the spirit and intent of Biafra will be pursued inside the Nigerian nation.

“TRIPOB now sees the Biafra question from a different perspective. Biafra will now become to us a powerful metaphor for change, development and greatness of the Igbos inside a united Nigeria, where the South East axis will be a utopia from the sheer determination borne out of the Biafra metaphor.

“We believe in being a part of a united Nigeria, and a new way of thinking, where the victim mentality will no longer be acceptable,” it asserted.

The group added: “We have accepted the fact that the Biafra Republic is not a reality but an anachronism, and doubt that the South -South region will become a part of a Biafra Republic, except by force; after a declaration of another civil war.”

“That the lessons and history of the civil war will only reinforce the belief in ourselves to reach the zenith in this great country, Nigeria, where opportunities abound for every one regardless of tribe or religion, and even where such narrow sentiments exist, we will not see ourselves as victims, Never,” The group added.

It declared: “In view of this new mind-set, members of the TRIPOB and any new defectors will on October 1, 2016, make a public denunciation of a secessionist Biafra Republic at the Eagle Square, Abuja.”

“The event will also include recitation of the pledge to Nigeria, our country, singing of the national anthem, followed by a solemn burning of the Biafra flag and unveiling a new Biafra flag representing pride, change, potential and spirit of the Igbo race which can thrive anywhere in the world.

Politics / EFCC Denies Report Linking Its Officials With Arms Fraud by Eltigre7: 1:16pm On Jun 22, 2016
The EFCC says report alleging that some of its senior officials are linked with arms procurement fraud was false.

This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Wilson Uwujaren, Head, Media and Publicity of the Commission and made available to newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday.

“The attention of the EFCC has been drawn to a report entitled DSS Nabs Member of Presidential C’ttee on Arms Procurement over alleged fraud regarding the arrest of retired Air Commodore Umar Muhammed for alleged fraud.

“The report quoting anonymous sources alleged that Muhammed who is a member of the Arms Procurement Committee is fronting for some members of the committee, including high ranking officials in the EFCC and ONSA.

“The report falls short of naming the so-called officials that Muhammed is allegedly fronting for’’, it stated. It said “it is common knowledge that Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Mr Ibrahim Magu, is the only member of the Arms Procurement Committee from the commission.

“The EFCC views with grave concern this spirited attempt to create doubts in the minds of less discerning Nigerians and members of the international community regarding the integrity of the Acting Chairman.

“To all intents and purposes, this devious report is another avenue of corruption fighting back as some people have been uncomfortable with the uncompromising stance of the acting chairman in the fight against corruption.

“The EFCC wishes to categorically state that no official of the agency that is directly or remotely connected with the work of the arms procurement committee has had any dealing that verge on fraud’’, it added.

According to the statement, EFCC as a body that upholds zero tolerance for corruption will not condone any act that amounts to corruption.

"If Muhammed is established to have engaged in any illegal activity, he should be held liable.

“In view of the gravity of the issues, the EFCC calls on the presidency to set up a high-powered panel of inquiry to verify the claims of the report.

“No matter the distraction and attempt by dark forces to derail its work through negative propaganda, the commission will continue to discharge its mandate’’, it said.

Politics / I ‘ll Pay Workers Not On Strike, Fayose Tells Labour by Eltigre7: 1:32am On May 29, 2016
Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has said the state government will pay salary only to workers not on strike from the little monthly allocation that came from Abuja.

He also opined that embarking on strike was not the solution to the poor resources available to the government that had led to irregular payment of salary in the last few months.

‎The governor stated this while featuring on an interview programme on the state-owned radio and television stations in Ado Ekiti.

The organised labour on Thursday began an indefinite strike to press home the demand for the outstanding five months salaries of workers among other issues.

Fayose complained that the state was handicapped by the continuous slide in statutory allocations coming to the state and the general economic recession in the country.

“For the April allocation shared in May, we got N752m, while our wage bill is N2.6b monthly. The previous month we got a little over N1 billion and that has been the trend since last year. We have had to combine two monthly allocations to be able to pay a month salary, but since the beginning of this year, it is that three allocations are not even enough to pay a month salary.

“When you compare what we got from January to May 2015 and what we got in the same period this year, we have a shortfall of over N6 billion. ‎Some are talking about our internally generated revenue, there is nothing to hide. All the records are there for all to see and I have always told labour leaders to go and verify. The highest we have recorded is N302 million a month. There was a month we had N181 million.

“Since I assumed office, every month the allocation paper comes from Abuja, a committee made up of labour leaders and other stakeholders has been the one sharing whatever comes among all sectors. If I am not hiding anything from labour leaders and workers, I expect them to understand. I feel their pain, but there is limit to what I can do in this type of situation.

“Workers at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital under the auspices of JOHESU have written that they are not on strike and people like that will be paid from what came from Abuja. Since I have no power to stop workers from going on strike, I wish them well, but we need to understand what the situation is like.

“They cannot say that I have not consistently been alerting Nigerians since late last year that a time like this is coming. In fact, the next allocation may be smaller than the one we are complaining about now,” he stated.

The governor claimed the economic situation of th‎e state became worse by the indiscriminate borrowing the immediate past administration of Dr. Kayode Fayemi embarked upon.

“The N25bn they raised from the capital market, the nearly N30bn commercial loans, the UBEC, water scheme, fertilizer and other loans they incurred, led to the deduction of about N1b from our allocations monthly. Where were the labour and their leaders when t‎hey were borrowing all these monies? I reiterate again that no administration should be allowed to borrow beyond its tenure,” he added.

On the staff audit conducted by the government last year, he stated that 315 ghost workers were detected through the exercise and that the report would soon be made public.

Crime / Soldiers Storm Tompolo’s Guest House, Arrest Occupants by Eltigre7: 1:23am On May 29, 2016
Soldiers on Saturday afternoon broke into the home of ex-militant leader, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo in a bid to arrest him after laying a siege to the building for several hours.

THE PUNCH learnt that the soldiers made their way into the building after several gunshots.

The building which is said to be owned by Tompolo, also served as a guesthouse.

The soldiers were also said to have broken into the community shrine (Oporoza Temple), destroying important artifacts after they failed to apprehend Tompolo, who was their prime target.

Tompolo is believed to be the chief priest of the Gbaramatu goddess. The temple is a stone throw from the invaded guest house.

Spokesman for the Ijaw Youth Council, Eric Omare, while confirming the invasion, called on the federal government to leave the people of Gbaramatu alone.

Omare, who spoke with our correspondent on the telephone, also confirmed the arrest of the occupants, who he said were merely community youths.

A community youth leader, identified as Mr Raph, who also confirmed the incident, said women and children were fleeing the community for safety. Raph said he was calling from his hideout, where he had been since the soldiers took over the community.

As of 5:30pm, when our correspondent called back, the heavily armed soldiers were yet to leave Oporoza, according to Raph.

Several calls put across to the spokesman for the JTF, Col. Isa Ado, and his NNS Delta counterpart, Lieutenant Lamu, were not answered.

Crime / EFCC Recovers N6.66b From Alison-madueke’s Campaign Spending by Eltigre7: 12:24pm On May 25, 2016
Nigeria’s recovered loot has increased by at least N6.66 billion. The amount is part of the N23.3 billion ($115 million) election campaign bribe allegedly distributed by former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Deziani Alison-Madueke, through Fidelity Bank.

While the chief executives of Sterling Bank and Access Bank reportedly refunded N5 billion and $5 million (N1 billion) respectively, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has recovered N17 million from former Secretary to the Government of Bauchi State, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Dandija, and two others from the state.

It also reportedly recovered N49 million from Fidelity Bank. The amount is said to be the profit the bank made for helping Alison-Madueke to share the $115 million to designated people in the country. The aggregate of these recovered funds is N6.66 billion while N16.64billion is yet to be recovered.

The $115 million which was allegedly used to bribe Independent National Electoral commission (INEC) officials as well as the then ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members nationwide, was given to Fidelity Bank by the former minister, who is currently being investigated in the United Kingdom on money laundering and corruption charges.

She was said to have sourced $88 million from some oil companies while she contributed N26 million. She was said to have used four companies to deposit the money into the bank, with the mandate that the bank distributes it nationwide. So far, N6.66 billion of the fund has been recovered while the EFCC continues investigation to recover the remaining fund.

Meanwhile, the Senate yesterday uncovered N447.42 billion fraud committed by past administration on import duty waivers, concessions and grants by different Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of government from 2011 to 2015.

Presenting the report, Chairman, Senate Adhoc Committee on Import Duty Waivers, Concessions and Grants, Senator Adamu Aliero (APC, Kebbi Central) said the report was a follow-up to a motion moved on the floor of the Senate in January this year. The Senate had subsequently set up an adhoc committee to investigate the claims in the motion and report back to it within a specified time.

The EFCC said that it released suspended Director General of the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), Nelly Mayshak and former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Warimopei Dudafa, yesterday.

Both were arrested around the same time in April for alleged corruption. While Mayshak was arrested on April 18 for alleged N2.5 billion fraud Dudafa who is connected with N10 billion funds from the Office of the National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki. He was arrested on April 19.

The commission revealed on Monday that former Secretary to Bauchi State Government, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Dandija, and two others have refunded an aggregate of N17 million they allegedly received from the $115 million campaign fund.

Two other personalities who made refunds are former chairman of the PDP in Gombe State, Nuhu Poloma and the Zonal Coordinator of the party in Gombe, Taraba and Adamawa states, Bunu Mulima. While Dandija returned N10 million, Poloma and Mulima refunded N2 million and N5 million respectively.

“Dandija admitted in a written statement that N20 million passed through his hands to some other beneficiaries but accepted liability for the refund of the whole sum. He promised to bring another bank draft for the balance of N10million today,” an operative said on Monday but it is yet to be confirmed if Dandija has made good his promise.

Others who are still being investigated on the Alison-Madueke’s campaign funds are former governor of Zamfara State, Mamuda Aliyu Shinkafi who was arrested last week. He allegedly received N15 million from the N450 million. The sharing of the N450 million was allegedly supervised by former minister of state, Bashir Yuguda.

Aside from Yuguda and Shinkafi, Hassan Muhammed Nasiha, former senator and PDP chairman, Zamfara State, and his executives are also alleged to have benefited N5 million from the N450 million.

Other beneficiaries, as revealed by Shinkafi are 13 Zamfara Local Government Councils, which got N26 million each totalling N338 million, Gusau Local Government Council being the state capital N46 million, House of Representative member Bello Matawalle N10 million, Senator Sahabi Ya’u N5million, Malami Aliyu Yen Doto, the PDP deputy governorship candidate in the 2015 poll N5 million, Biliya Shinkafi N5 million, Sani Birnin Magaji N5 million, party executives N5 million, printing of party tag N6 million and Committee of Party Supervisors N10 million.

Also, a former Secretary to Bauchi State Government, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim, former Personal Assistant to ex-governor Isa Yuguda, Alhaji Sanusi Mohammed Isa, and Secretary of PDP in the state, Alhaji Salisu Garba have been arrested and quizzed by the EFCC over the funds. The suspects are alleged to have collected N500 million out of the money.

The list of those who have been grilled in connection with the scam also include former governors Liyel Imoke, Ibrahim Shekarau, Ramalan Yero, Achike Udenwa and Ibrahim Shema. Former ministers have also been quizzed. Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bashir Aminu Wali and former Minister of State II for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Nurudeen Muhammad have been quizzed. Others are officials of INEC and officials of the PDP as well as Senator Chris Anyanwu and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Michael Ahamba. The senator and the SAN have denied involvement in sharing of the money. Achike Udenwa also denied receiving the money. It is also not clear if any recoveries have been made from any of the accused persons.

Last Thursday, the immediate past governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan was implicated in the $115million election fund scandal. He is allegedly involved to the tune of N450 million.

The money was allegedly received by the Delta State Commissioner of Finance, Chief David Edevbie, former PDP Chairman of the State, Chief Edwin Uzor and Chief Ndidi Elumelu, a former member of House of Representatives on the instruction of the former governor.

In connection to the $115million, the commission also interrogated a former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Chief Lucky Imasuen and former Secretary to the State Government of Edo State, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu. They are alleged to have collected N700 million of the fund through the Mission Road branch of Fidelity Bank Plc, in Benin- City. The transaction allegedly took place in March 2015.

Former governor of Katsina State, Ibrahim Shema allegedly received N700 million from the N23.3billion campaign funds. According to the EFCC, Shema allegedly authorised a former Minister of Mines and Steel, Musa Muhammad Sada, to receive the money on his behalf for the state.

The N700 million allegedly got by Shema is likely to be part of the N5 billion allegedly got by the north west from the campaign funds connected to Alison-Deziani.

Also, a former Minister of State for Agriculture, Asabe Asmau Ahmed, from Niger State, revealed how she personally signed and collected the sum of N450 million.

“Ahmed also stated that she kept the sum of N105million for herself,” spokesman Wilson Uwujaren said, adding that Ahmed further alleged that the balance was given to top PDP officials in the state.

Politics / If Jonathan Had Won..... by Eltigre7: 9:55am On Dec 12, 2015
Given the many revelations that are daily hitting the airwaves on the amount of plundering the Jonathan administration visited on the country, Nigerians should be grateful that former president Jonathan did not win a re-election at the last March presidential election. The country would have probably sunk by now with all the concomitant consequences that would have followed.

Not long ago, a top government official, in a discussion, mentioned that former President Jonathan had confessed to Alhaji Aliko Dangote that if he had won the presidential election, he would not have known where he would find money to pay May salary to workers.
That implies that former President Jonathan knew the deep mess the nation’s economy was at the time he stepped down. And that explains why almost all the states began to groan under the yoke of unpaid workers’ salaries as soon as the Buhari administration took over. It is even said that credit cards from Nigeria are no longer being honoured in many foreign countries. It is that bad!
From the depth of the nation’s vault, the resources of the nation were ploughed into the election in a way that suggests that the nation should cease to exist if the re-election project fails.

It is bad enough that our major source of revenue: crude oil sales, has been witnessing a crashed price regime in the international oil market, but it is worse that even the resources we either had in reserve or generating from other sources were terribly plundered under the Jonathan administration.

In my thinking, many of the people in the top notch of the Jonathan administration, having realized that he is a weak and ineffectual personality, took huge and deep advantage of his person and began to over-appropriate to themselves, the commonwealth of the nation.
Many of those who engaged in the pillaging of the nation’s resources believed that Jonathan would win the election again and then the show will continue, in which case these deep-gutted infractions will never be known nor revisited.

Imagine the rot that took place in NIMASA, an otherwise quiet agency of government where an unqualified person (a Business Administration teacher), Mr Patrick Akpobolokemi, was appointed as Director General of such a professional agency, in breach of the extant rules, not for any other consideration other than being an Ijaw, like Jonathan. He ran the agency with such defiance to established order believing, as it were, that “if the President be for me, who can be against me?” He once caused the redeployment of his supervising Transport minister, Mallam Yusuf Suleiman, who dared to question his actions. In less than three years, the fellow almost brought the agency to its knees. Today, he is being prosecuted for allegedly robbing the place blind with a charge of stealing N3.4 billion hanging on his neck.

The revelations on the arms scandal are mind blowing. With the admission of Chief Raymond Dokpesi of receiving N2.1 billion from the former National Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki (retd), for the purpose of funding campaign publicity of President Jonathan, has shut the mouths of those who said Dasuki was merely being persecuted for being in a PDP-led government.

It is even more instructive that former Minister of Finance and Co-ordinating minister of the Economy (I now wonder what she ever co-ordinated with all the corruption miasma everywhere), Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, admitted that she released $322 million Abacha loot to Dasuki, on the three conditions of using a small portion of it for arms procurement and the rest for development project; keeping it as a loan that would be paid back, and giving account of it to the C-in-C. Madam Okonjo-Iweala must be told that all the three so-called conditions are weak and ineffectual. How can she release recovered loot to the NSA and expect it will be used for development project? Which development agency does the NSA head? How, in sincerity, did the Okonjo-Iweala expect the NSA to pay back the money? She may have just inserted those conditions to seem as if she gave a professional advice, which she knew, ab initio, will be completely ignored.
As it turned out, the recovered Abacha loot has been looted by others, as I will not even examine the propriety of using recovered loot to fund the activities of a political party, in this case, the PDP. Gosh, Poor Nigeria!

The spate of sleaze was (and still) a national malaise, and it is not peculiar to just the PDP or their leaders. There are indeed many crooks in the APC as well. The details of which may also come to light the day they are succeed by opposition office holders.

However, I have shuddered at the revelations from the panel of enquiry going in Benue State where the state Accountant General confessed that he was once ordered to bring N100 million cash to the then governor, Mr Gabriel Suswan. The same Suswan after selling the shares of the state amounting to N10 billion was said to have ordered that a part of the money be paid into the state government’s account while another part (N3.1 billion) be paid into the bank account of a private company (Fanflash Resources Ltd).
The owner of the company, Abubkabakar Umar admitted receiving the same amount and explained that he used the sum to buy US Dollars amounting to $15.8 million which he delivered to Suswan, as instructed.
Suswan, a young man and a lawyer, presided over a poor state, which could not even pay the minimum wage of N18,000 per month to its workers.

What shall we say to all these? They are all the machinations of the opposition?
It is even sadder that in all these cases of shocking graft and cesspool of unbridled corruption, there are ever-ready lawyers baying for such cases where they will use silly and unprogressive legal technicalities to thwart the trial and conviction of such accused persons.

Politics / Kogi Gov Reinstates LG Chairmen by Eltigre7: 10:51am On Nov 24, 2015
Kogi State Governor, Capt. Idris Ichala Wada has reinstated sacked Council Chairmen in the state in obedience to the Court of appeal ruling which ordered their immediate reinstatement.

It would be recalled that the Council Chairmen were sacked last year through an order of a High Court sitting in Kotonkarfe.

The Conference of Nigerian Political Parties had dragged the State Government to court over what they called, “illegal and improper constitution of the State Independent Electoral Commission”.

The High Court had declared the constitution of SIEC and all its actions, “ultra vires”, leading to the sack of the Council Chairmen and Councillors.

Dissatisfied with the ruling, the Kogi State Government filed an appeal before the Appeal Court in Abuja. The Appeal court faulted the ruling of the High Court, ordering the immediate reinstatement of the chairmen.
Today, Tuesday, the governor directed the immediate reinstatement of the council bosses and councillors.
However, the situation of some of the Chairmen who defected to the opposition APC is yet to be defined as the statement directing them to resume office was silent on the defectors.

Speaking to Vanguard, one of the Local Government Chairmen, Hon. Folorunsho Daniyan hailed the governor for his belief in the rule of law.

Politics / Swindlers Swoop On Jonathan’s Ministers by Eltigre7: 8:33am On Oct 28, 2015
Ministers and key officials of the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan have additional headache to contend with as conmen have swooped on them.
Hiding under the guise of good Samaritans willing to assist them secure soft-landing from corruption probes, some well-placed Nigerians, among them senior members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and security operatives are said to be fleecing former ministers and top government officials in Jonathan’s government of millions of naira.
A prominent Nigerian, who held an influential and strategic position in the last government, blew the whistle on how some security operatives are inundating him and his former colleagues with tales of probes by either the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Independent Corrupt Practices (and other related) Commission (ICPC) and the Department of State Services (DSS) against them.
The former government minister official, who declined to be named, revealed that the people often offer to assist ex-ministers to either stop the probe or arrange a soft landing if they (ex-ministers) would part with a negotiated amount of money in cash.
“These days, what we see and hear everyday from security men and key members of the ruling party is that this and that probe is going on at the EFCC against Jonathan’s men. They will tell you to bring so so amount of money to enable them stop the probe.
“Out of fear, some of us accede to their requests…”
The former government official said targets include ministers like Works, Aviation, Transport, Water Resources, Federal Capital Territory and Education and added that some peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members were working hand-in-glove with APC members to swindle them.
Corroborating his claims, an aide to one of the former ministers lamented what he described as an “obnoxious development where some APC members were terrorising members of Jonathan’s cabinet with threats of investigations with a view to “extorting money” from them.
He, however, did not name such APC leaders or those in the corridors of power who were ripping Jonathan’s men off.
President Buhari had repeatedly assured that he was not on a mission to witch-hunt or victimise anybody. However, Jonathan’s men are not convinced of the sincerity of the assurance .
According to the former government official , the fear that the incumbent administration is after the former President, Dr Jonathan and those that worked with him is growing . He insisted that the fear is genuine arguing that if President Buhari’s assurance was reliable , some elements his government and party would not have turned the anti-graft campaign into platforms for extorting monies from exministers and other public officers.
Although the source was forthcoming on the former ministers that have been swindled , he said the targets were those that held grade A ministries like works, aviation, transport, water resources, federal capital territory and education.
He stressed that some top members of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), were curiously working hand in gloves with some dubious APC stalwarts in perpetrating this fraud.
He cautioned that unless President Buhari establishes a balance in the anti-corruption campaign by redressing what he said was a skewed clampdown on the opposition, the culture of extortion will persist thereby fuelling hate and more corruption.
He charged security agencies to wake up to their responsibilities by apprehending these fraudsters who masquerade as genuine anti-corruption fighters.

Politics / Itsekiri Nation Disowns Calls For Creation Of Biafra Republic by Eltigre7: 8:16am On Oct 28, 2015
By Egufe Yafugborhi
WARRI—THE Itsekiri ethnic nationality of Warri, Delta State, has dissociated itself from the calls for creation of a Biafra Republic out of Nigeria as being drummed by some Igbo interest groups in the South-East.
The Itsekiri Leaders of Thought, ILT, expressed the group’s concern over the Igbo agitation yesterday in a statement by its Chairman, Pa Johnson Ayomike and Secretary, Edward Ekpoko.
The body is disturbed that the proposed Biafra Republic as widely reported in the social media includes the whole of Delta State.
The statement stressed: “We recall with pains the day the defunct Biafran Army invaded Warri and Benin in the then Midwest Region on August 9, 1967. Never again will the Itsekiri tolerate such invasion. The Itsekiri nation is committed to the unity of Nigeria and will do all it can to promote and protect it as one indivisible country. As Major General Philip Effiong said on January 14 1970, the Republic of Biafra ceased to exist. We, the Itsekiri, wish it to be eternally so for the peace and development of our great nation.”

Family / Re: How My Late Aunt Maturely Dealt With Her Cheating Husband.........ladies LEARN! by Eltigre7: 11:01am On Oct 27, 2015
dearestaramide:
MY uncle and I love to have conversations on life, relationships, politics etc. Any way, we got into discussion on the high rate of divorce in Nigeria and he went on to express what he felt were cause of it. He emphasized on patience and forgiveness and went on to tell me of an experience that cured him of his player life style

Years ago, my uncle was like the average Nigerian man, that is of course womanizer but like the average man, he was smart not to flaunt it, though as women, we always can tell. His wife had always known and was always told by her over sabi friends but since she never caught him red handed, she couldn't do anything about it.

The constant late night calls, meetings, sudden travels increased her belief of what she already knew. what could she do? yes, as any average wife, she was in pains but still showed him love and made sure she was there for him any time he needed a friend to talk to. She never complained or cried to her family or friends but kept in all inside her. He respected her for this even though as he said, he was too addicted to women to stop, though he tried.

My uncle was called off for a conference which was to last for one week and as usual with out delay, he jetted off. A cousin of my aunt whom she had not seen for over two years then came to visit and but was staying in a hotel which was by all means high standard and very expensive. My aunt decided to visit her on a Saturday so as to stay longer and catch up on old times. My aunt as you suspected caught sight of her husband really romancing a woman in the pool area and as you know, the man was supposed to be in Port Harcourt and had presumably jetted off three days before. She calmly finished what took her to the hotel and went back home.

My aunt never showed her husband any difference and still treated him normal as usual but one day whilst he was in a very good mood and they were watching an interesting movie in their room, she calmly told him what she had seen THREE MONTHS EARLIER and asked him not to do it again as he had hurt her deeply.

That night, shame, shock, fear all kinds of thoughts but best of all respect clouded my uncle's thought. He did eventually stop but not immediately oooo. He said it was gradual but he eventually stopped.

MY aunt fell ill and died years later and my uncle was sooo heart broken. He is still single by the way.

WHAT I LEARNT

all men are the same only thing that differentiates them is fear of God and self control.
Women need to be wiser and more matured than men.
Never act immediately this enables you time to think and strategise
shouting doesn't change men but pushes them away

So you all are trying to tell me you didn't read the post very carefully before commenting abi nah insulting or nah advise I go even call am. We need ask the OP one simple question, OP, did you mean to say ur uncle got married to your aunt?... Abeg explain make I know wetin to comment. Coz ur post says the man nah ur uncle and now the wife is ur aunt : shocked angry
