Foreign Affairs › Republican Who Died Of Coronavirus In October Wins Election In North Dakota by Emedu(op): 2:06pm On Nov 04, 2020 |
A candidate for North Dakota’s state legislature who died of coronavirus early last month has nonetheless been named victorious in the election for his district on Tuesday. David Andahl was diagnosed with Covid-19 and hospitalised for treatment, after which he passed away on 5 October. He was 55 years old when he died. Yet results early on Wednesday morning showed that Andahl and another GOP candidate, Dave Nehring, had been elected for the two seats from North Dakota’s eighth district. Andahl took around 36 per cent of the vote. Andahl won his primary election weeks before falling sick, and remained on the ballot even after his death because early voting was already well underway and the ballots could not be changed. According to local officials, around one third of mail-in voters in District 8 had already returned ballots when Andahl died. A statement issued earlier by North Dakota’s attorney general Wayne Stenehjem said: “Votes cast for a deceased Bismarck-area state legislative candidate should be counted, and if he's elected it would create a vacancy to be filled.” Mr Stenehjem said votes for Andahl must be counted, citing "the American rule," that votes for a deceased or disqualified candidate represents a choice by voters. Now the job of finding Andahl’s replacement lies with the Republican party, which will assemble a committee for the purpose, although there may also be calls for a special election to be held. North Dakota has recorded more than 47,000 coronavirus cases so far, and on Tuesday alone added 1,100 new infections. Andahl’s mother Pat Andahl told the Bismarck Tribune after his death that she had "no idea" how her son contracted the coronavirus, saying he had been "very careful" amid the pandemic. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-election-2020/david-andahl-covid-death-north-dakota-b1585427.html?utm_content=Echobox&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1604490100

Foreign Affairs › Election Betting Odds Have Flipped To Favor Trump, Expert Says by Emedu(op): 6:40am On Nov 04, 2020 |
President Donald Trump is now favored to win the election based on an average of betting websites, an expert told Fox News Tuesday.
Within the past few hours, the website, electionbettingodds.com, created by Maxim Lott and John Stossel, recently flipped its averaged betting odds in favor of Trump.
"He hasn't won yet, but it's looking like he might," Lott told Fox News Tuesday night.
Lott said betting odds on his site this morning, which are averaged from other gambling websites, had Trump as just a 38% favorite to win the election. As of 11 p.m., Trump is more than a 70% favorite. Democratic presdiential candidate Joe Biden currently stands at just under 30%.
"I was surprised though to see it flip so quickly," he added.
Lott created a program on his website that every minute goes to different gambling sites, including FTX.com, Smarkets, and Betfair to check what the odds are.
He said the site was created in 2015 with the belief that markets and are the best predictor of what's going to happen because "they have an incentive to get it right."
While experts had Biden as the clear favorite to win the election, Lott said this year made things a bit more unpredictable.
I always thought, and I said this before the election, that they were overconfident -- because 2020 is such a crazy year," he said. "You can't predict things."
He said that polls could be off because of shy voters and social pressure against Trump voters right now. He added that another ex-factor people may have not been looking at was mail-in ballots.
Still, Lott said the betting odds could flip back to Biden. He described the former vice president's chances as flipping a coin two times and getting heads both times.
That's about the chance it flips back to the former Vice President," he continued. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/betting-odds-have-flipped-to-favor-trump-expert-says]

chloedogie: If they take over senate, aswear people will see a better behaving Donald Trump. The guy go gentle and be a good boy. No names calling and insult cos if he do anyhow, he sees impeachment anyhow. I will like a functioning Donald Trump but well behaved in all honesty. The insults are out of this world. Not likely. Impeachment will still be impossible. Highly popular within the republicans. |

Yampotatocarrot: I don't think so o. Imagine if Edo is known to always vote, say Democrates, then Republicans don't even go there to campaign, Republicans come win, Edo go suffer am na, nothing at all will be done for them.
In our own situation, the fact that every vote matters, the parties will try to appease each state with something, no matter how little or insignificant it might seem. I understand your concern. There state is highly independent. True federalism system. |

Early lead with little margin is a poor indicator for democrat.
As more and more of those in-person votes are counted, the president will slowly, inexorably claw his way back. |

Donald Trump needs both Ohio and North Carolina in his column for his electoral maths to work out, but Biden has modest leads in both states with more than half of all voters reported.
Democrats shouldn't count on those margins holding up, however. As predicted, the early and mail-in votes trended toward Biden, while the election-day results have favoured Trump.
Appearance can be deceiving!

If democrats hijack the senate and presidency, with rh4 house already in their pocket, then it is a game over for Republicans. That makes it a one party system in the USA all thanks to the reckless behaviours of their darling showbiz presido. But too early cause there are still many surprises left in the night. Misleading! Florida, once again, is a key state to watch this election - so let's take a moment to cast our eye over the latest exit poll data.
Biden appears to be doing better among women, while Trump leads among men. Biden is also doing better among non-white voters, while white Floridians have favoured Trump.
The Sunshine state's 29 electoral votes will be a big prize for either candidate. So far, 93% of the vote has been counted. |
