Business / Re: Have Prices Of Commodities Reduced In Your Area? by Emedu(m): 4:47am On Apr 08
PlushyRealtor:
Prices of commodities won't reduced irrespective of naira gaining momentum against the USD b'cos those local items are manufactured here in our country and transport to customers using vehicle(fuel), so as much is fuel price is still high locally manufactured goods will still be high.

You'll only see drastic reduction in prices of those items once the government openly reintroduce fuel subsidy and price back to as it were before baba took over power.

Price is relative. If the prices of goods whose raw materials are imported or directly imported drop, local food will likely also drop because the demand for local food would be reduced.

Romance / Re: What Did You Know About The Last War After 1893 – Oliveloaded by Emedu(m): 9:01am On Mar 20
OliveDeveloper:
In the far north east corner of Yorubaland the years of the Kiriji War had seen a great expansion and intensification of Nupe raids and control.

Nupe raids and capture of Yoruba people for slaves had caused the emergence of many refugee settlements. It had also generated intense anti Nupe hostility not only in Yoruba towns and villages but over a large area including Afenmai and Ebira countries.

As Nupe traders, troops & persons representing Nupe control were routinely attacked and killed everywhere the position of the Nupe gradually weakened.

In 1894, a refugee settlement named Ogidi formed a grand alliance to liberate their people from the Nupe. The Ogidi alliance borrowing strategies from the Ekiti Parapo commanded forces from ijumu, Iyagba, Oworo, Owe, Ikiri, Akoko and even Ekiti. The various North Eastern Yoruba communities wiped out all traces of Nupe control and claims.

Ogidi is not a refugee settlement. Besides, there was no grand alliance. The British military only came after the war.

Foreign Affairs / Re: Naira Continues Appreciation Streak, Gains And Closes At ₦‎1,500/$ by Emedu(m): 4:31am On Feb 29
We are simply moving from a fixed (pegged) exchange rate to a managed floating exchange rate regime. Change like this often comes along with the high upward volatility we experienced some weeks ago.

With the aggressive efforts of the CBN, I strongly believe we are in the stage of stability; once that is obtained, we can then talk about appreciation of naira to fair value

Good days ahead.

Nope,

Realists

What economic measure is in place to sufficiently stabilise the naira?

Are we exporting more products now?

Mind you, Nigeria’s total trade in the third quarter of 2023 stood at ₦18,804.29 billion. Exports were valued at ₦10,346.60 billion while total imports stood at ₦8,457.68 billion, this was not felt in our exchange rate because of our high debt service to revenue ratio, high volume of printed naira in the name of ways and means. All these things are systematically taken care of to ensure the surplus naira is mopped up.

I believe there are good days ahead

Politics / Comparing Nigeria’s Economic Challenges To Venezuela: A Critical Perspective by Emedu(m): 6:59am On Feb 21
Some days ago, PDP governors gathered to criticize the Tinubu government and alluded that if care is not taken, Nigeria's situation will be similar to that of Venezuela or even worse.

However, they neglected to inform Nigerians about how Venezuela reached that point of economic crisis.

Venezuela, being an oil-rich country, benefited significantly from high oil prices in the early 2000s, much like Nigeria. In fact, at one point, Venezuela was the richest country in South America.

The billions of dollars in revenue were used to finance social programs and food subsidies, similar to how Nigeria subsidized fuel, electricity, and forex.

However, when oil prices declined, these programs and subsidies became unsustainable, yet both countries continued to borrow to sustain the programs hoping one day the oil price would rise again.

In November 2017, The Economist estimated Venezuela's debt at US$105 billion and reserve at US$10 billion. By 2018, Venezuela's debt had grown to US$156 billion, and as of March 2019, its reserve had dropped to US$8 billion.

Currently, Nigeria's debt exceeds US$113 billion, and our net foreign reserve is below US$3 billion.

In February 2019, Venezuela's inflation rate reached an all-time high of 344,509.50 percent.

What we are currently experiencing in Nigeria is child's play compared to what could happen if we proceed for more than six months without removing fuel and forex subsidies.

Before the subsidy removal, our debt service to revenue ratio was already above 100 percent, and our reserve of 33 billion dollars could only sustain us for 6 months. Our credit rating was also negative.

However, just four months after the subsidy removal, our credit rating had changed from negative to positive, and our debt service to revenue ratio has improved from over 100 percent to 70 percent.

Let's support President Tinubu's reforms by educating people on what could have happened to Nigeria if these policies were not implemented.🇳🇬

If the subsidy had been removed and the Naira was defended, things wouldn't have been this horrible.
Tinubu is empty.
He is a sawdust filled brain man with nothing to offer because you can't give what you don't have.
Any monkey can remove subsidy and devalue the Naira.
It's what you do before, during and after, knowing the ripple effect of those policies that should distinguish you from the monkey.
Tinubu has not proved he has a brain better than that of an ordinary monkey,if at all he has anything in it.

Defend naira with which dollar under this economic situation in which the ratio of loan service to revenue is higher than 100?

Phones / How To Solve Watsapp Verification Failure by Emedu(m): 3:34pm On Oct 26, 2023
If you're having trouble receiving a WhatsApp code. Try the following steps.

1. **Locate another smartphone**: Find a different smartphone that has a mobile data connection.

2. **Set up a mobile hotspot**: On this second smartphone, go into the settings and look for the "Mobile Hotspot" or "Tethering" option. Enable this option to turn the smartphone into a Wi-Fi hotspot.

3. **Connect your device to the hotspot**: On your original device (the one where you're waiting for the code), go to your Wi-Fi settings and connect to the newly created hotspot. You should see the name of the second smartphone in your list of available networks.

4. **Request the code again**: Once your device is connected to the new internet source, try requesting the code again.

By following these steps, you're using a different internet connection which might help in successfully receiving the code. Remember, charges may apply for using mobile data, so be sure to check with your network provider.

The only thing I changed is the charger that got burned as a result of the high voltage.

Religion / Re: Why Do Christians Worship On Sundays? by Emedu(m): 11:38am On Nov 28, 2021
swhiss:

After God brought His people out of Egypt and through the Red Sea, the Sabbath day took on even more significance as a covenant sign that God sanctified His people (Ex. 31:13). On that day, the saints celebrated the reality that God had created them and that their rest was rooted in His rest: "For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day" (Ex. 20:8-11). As well, the Sabbath signified that God had redeemed His people (Deut. 5:12-15). Finally, the annual Day of Atonement fell on a Sabbath (Lev. 16:30-31), so the Sabbath also celebrated God's forgiveness of His people.

Under the old covenant with Israel (Ex. 19; Heb. 8:6, 7, 13), the Sabbath day was extremely strict. Not only was no work to be done by the Israelites and their children, they also were to give rest to all in their households—servants, livestock, even sojourners (Ex. 20:10). God even gave regulatory laws over what could and could not be done. For example, if one even went out to gather sticks on the Sabbath in order to kindle a fire (Num. 15:32-36; Ex. 35:1-3), he was to be put to death (Ex. 31:14-15; 35:2). All this strictness was a part of the tutelage of the law, which was meant to lead Israel by the hand to Jesus Christ (Gal. 3:24), who is the final sacrifice ending the old covenant (Heb. 7:11-12, 18-19; 8:7, 13).

When Jesus rose from the dead on the first day of the week, things changed. Christ, the second Adam, "finished" (John 19:30) the work that the first Adam failed to do (Rom. 5:12-19). Because of that pivotal event, the church determined that for Christians under the new covenant, the day of worship and celebration of the Lord's grace in Jesus Christ was to be the first day of the week, Sunday: "From the beginning of the world to the resurrection of Christ, [the Sabbath] was the last day of the week; and, from the resurrection of Christ, was changed into the first day of the week, which, in Scripture, is called the Lord's day, and is to be continued to the end of the world, as the Christian Sabbath" (WCF, 21:7). On this day, we are reminded of and participate in the glorious reality that we have already entered God's rest (Matt. 11:28; Heb. 4:10) and that we await the experience of the fullness of this rest in eternity in the new heavens and new earth (Rev. 21-22). We now assemble corporately for worship and enjoy a foretaste of our eternal rest, then go out into the kingdom of this world to work for six days.

So why do we worship on Sunday and not Saturday?

•The first day of the week was the day on which our Lord rose from the dead (John 20:1; cf. Ps. 118:24).

•The first day of the week is called "the Lord's day" (Rev. 1:10; cf. 1 Cor. 16:2).
The first day was the day on which the Holy Spirit was poured out on the church (Acts 2:1-36).

•Just as on the first day of creation God made light and separated it from the darkness, we gather on the first day of the week to celebrate the light of the gospel in Jesus Christ, who has separated us from the world of the darkness of sin (John 1:5, 9; 3:19; 8:12; 2 Cor. 4:1-6).
