Twitter has created a special emoji to encourage conversation among Nigerian voters, as they go to the poll on February 16, 2019.

“For everyone that wants to discuss the election on Twitter, the platform is introducing a special emoji. The emoji appears when using the hashtags #NigeriaDecides2019 and #NigeriaDecides.

“The special emoji pictures a fingerprint in a square, reflecting the Nigerian fingerprint voting system, and it’s colour represents the green of the Nigerian national flag. This design encourages conversation while also serving as a piece of voter education,” Twitter said in a statement on Monday.

Reacting to Twitter’s innovation and contribution towards the success of Nigeria’s 2019 election, Sinead McSweeney, VP Public Policy and Communications, EMEA, said, “the hashtags will be even easier to join the conversation on Twitter about the Nigerian elections, especially for those who want to follow up on news, and the events that affect their lives.

Gonzalo Higuain is set to undergo his medical tests with Chelsea today, Sky Sport reports.

The Blues have been agreed the same conditions offered to Juventus by AC Milan: a six-month loan deal with an option to buy set at €36million.

Higuain will earn a €9million-a-year with Maurizio Sarri’s side.

The Premier League giants, however, will have a chance to extend the player’s loan for one more season.

An Instagram user @unselfishceo1 has taken to social media to reveal how a man intentionally bashed his car in Lagos. According to him, this incident took place on Monday, December 31, 2018, around Idimu.
He explained that while approaching Idimu, a man driving a Logo Benz hit his car from behind and when he got out of his Camry to confront the man on why he hit his car, he was told it was an intentional act because the man earlier overtook his car.
That was not all, he added that that was the second time a Benz would intimidate him in Lagos but instead of him to steal female underwear for rituals, he would rather work hard to earn clean money.
To prove how angry he was when his car was bashed, the Camry driver blamed famous Nigerian singers Olamide and Lil Kesh for releasing a song that encourages the activities of yahoo guys and ritual killings.
He said he will not curse those involved in ritual killings but they will not last in their dealings.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says it has registered over 300,000 candidates for its 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination in one week.

The Board’s Head, Media and Information, Dr Fabian Benjamin, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos.

Benjamin speaking on the registration urged candidates with issues of biometrics must to go to Abuja and have it rectified.

The board commenced registration of candidates for the 2019 all Computer Based Test (CBT) on Jan.10 and it would close on Feb. 21.

Benjamin said: “I want to reiterate the fact that only the Registrar of the board has the sole right to attend to such issues.

“Any candidate who may have issues with the capturing of his or her fingerprints at their respective points of registration will need to come down to our office in Abuja.

“This will require the Chief Executive to do it himself for the purpose of security,”

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has disclosed what the Federal Government must urgently do in order to end its lingering industrial action.

In an exclusive chat with DAILY POST, on Monday night, the National President of ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, said the strike will be called off as soon as the Federal Government meets it renewed demands.

Ogunyemi also said that ASUU will convey the outcome of it’s consultations to government and once government implements its resolution, the strike would be called off.

According to Ogunyemi: “ASUU will call off as soon as the Federal Government meets its demand. The government has proposed what they want to do so we will respond after consultation.

“We will convey the points of our consultation to them tomorrow (today) and as soon as we do that, we expect them to address the minimum demand because ASUU has pencilled down their demands but what government gave was too low for them and that is why they have rejected their proposal.

“ASUU is now getting back to the government with a new minimum, we have bent backwards in the interest of our students and the Nigerian Society,” he said.

On universities pulling out of the strike, he said: “Well, there are some of our branches that have disagreements, majority of our branches are intact.

“When we resumed the strike on November 4, some of our people said they will not participate because they had issues with the union so those ones are free to exercise their rights and very soon ASUU will return to the same fold.

“And for weakening our strike, even those who are not part of it, they believe that we are fighting for a just course and they identify with us, they are with us in spirit. There are places where Vice Chancellors are coercing our members but we are rising in their defence and where they are been overwhelmed and we are unable to help, for now, we will come back and address such issues. We are convinced that victory is certain in this ongoing struggle because it’s in the interest of the universities and the Nigerian nation.”

Arsenal goalkeeper, Petr Cech, has announced that he will be retiring at the end of the season.

Cech has spent 15 years in the Premier League, during which time he played for Chelsea and Arsenal and won multiple trophies.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the former Czech number one said: “This is my 20th season as a professional player and it has been 20 years since I signed my first professional contract, so it feels like the right time to announce that I will retire at the end of the season.

“Having played 15 years in the Premier League, and won every single trophy possible, I feel like I have achieved everything I set out to achieve.

“I will continue to work hard at Arsenal to hopefully win one more trophy this season, then I am looking forward to seeing what life holds for me off the pitch.”

No fewer than three persons were feared dead during an attack by unidentified gunmen on Sunday night between Asso and Tanda bridge in Gwong Chiefdom of Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna state.

Mr Peter Averik, Chairman of the Local Government, who confirmed the development to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday, said the attack took place around 7:30 p.m when unidentified gunmen opened fire on innocent persons who were walking along the Asso and Tanda bridge.

“I was told the gunmen, who seemed to be advancing, opened fire on the pedestrians over fear that they may be exposed.

“One person died on the spot while two others who sustained injury were rushed to Fadan Kagoma Hospital where one of them died this morning following the magnitude of injury sustained,” he said.

Averik further confirmed that the third victim’s corpse was found earlier on Monday in a bush path at Wazo village before Aso.

The black teens presumed to be in the viral video showing the torture of a white teen with special needs have been arrested.

Four suspects, two men and two women — all 18 year olds from Chicago, have been arrested for the beating and torture of a man that was broadcasted via Facebook Live. The disturbing viral footage, which lasts about 30 minutes, shows a young man crouched in a corner, wailing in pain, while being attacked and taunted. One assailant takes a knife and slices into the victim’s scalp. Chicago Police have reported that the victim is an 18-year-old with special needs.

The victim reportedly got in a van with the attackers and they might have held him hostage for “at least 24 hours,” reports CNN. Police are still considering kidnapping charges, even though he might have gotten into the van voluntarily. The victim was familiar with at least one of the attackers from school, said Commander Kevin Duffin.

Due to his trauma, it reportedly took the young man most of the night to calm down to a state where he was able to talk to police.

During the video, the attackers can be heard uttering anti-white as well as anti-Trump invective, such as “f*ck white people” and “f*ck Donald Trump.” Seeing that they are black and the victim is white, police are investigating whether the incident constitutes a potential hate crime. Thus far, no racial or political motives on behalf of the perpetrators have been established.

Though they do seem to have used racially-charged language, it is possible that the suspects were simply “ranting about something they think might make a headline,” says Chicago police Superintendent Eddie Johnson. Due to their age, they will be charged as adults.

“It’s sickening,” said Johnson, who does not believe the crime to be politically motivated. “It makes you wonder what would make individuals treat somebody like that.”

The victim’s parents reported him missing on Monday, and after doing so, they reportedly received text messages from someone “claiming to be holding him captive.” Police found the victim wandering a Chicago street on Tuesday afternoon. They say he was visibly “in crisis.”

A young black teenager in West Virginia has been murdered in cold blood for bumping into an older white man.

James Means, a 15-year-old black teenager, was murdered Monday evening in Charleston, West Virginia by a 62-year-old white man named William Ronald Pulliam after bumping into the older man outside a store. Pulliam exchanged words with Means a second time outside the store, and shot him twice in the abdomen, leaving him to die.

Pulliam has no remorse for committing the senseless act. After being arrested Tuesday morning, police say he said, "The way I look at it, that's another piece of trash off the street."

Means has been described as a boy who can "light up a room, even on the darkest of days."

Pulliam has a history of harassing young people of color. Police had been notified before of his behavior, but never made an arrest.
