It was tough but I had to cajole the chairman of my co-operative to try an xperiment on outrite sales or processing. We tried an experiment using 4 cabstars. 2 went for direct sales while the other two went to processing into garri. By d time we were thru, garri was d winner. We are currently setting up a local processing factory and going into production soon

AgricultureRe: Final Lap Of Cassava Farming For 2016 by Emempaul(op): 8:03pm On Aug 13, 2016
that it? No dats nt it.
Have u thought about processing ur cassava into garri?
AgricultureRe: Final Lap Of Cassava Farming For 2016 by Emempaul(op): 7:48pm On Aug 13, 2016
Now 3 baskets = 1ton

so instead of getting 21000 the actual money u get is btw 16500 to 18,000 now dat is the figure u should work with so dat u dont raise ur hopes high
AgricultureRe: Final Lap Of Cassava Farming For 2016 by Emempaul(op): 7:38pm On Aug 13, 2016
The actual money u get is 5500 to 6000 depending on d distance of the farm to the but

but how? I dont understand

Well d break down goes like this. Out of d 7.5k, 1000 or 1500 goes to the bikeman depending on d distance to d buyer, 400 to the harvester, 100 to the person dat arranges the cassava in d basket
AgricultureRe: Final Lap Of Cassava Farming For 2016 by Emempaul(op): 7:27pm On Aug 13, 2016
A basket of cassava goes for 7500 in my are
WOW!! That much?
Yes, that much..... But wait, there is a catch
mmm.....huh
Unless u own the bike and d labourers
wat??!!

9. At the 6th month, third weeding is carried out

10. From the 8th month ur cassava is ready for sale

Nice one @Emempaul
thanks
AgricultureRe: Final Lap Of Cassava Farming For 2016 by Emempaul(op):
6. After about 1 month , its time for first weeding. Cost is 350 per alapin * 30 alapin = 10500/hectare

7. Immediately after the first weeding fertilizer is applied. Currently a bag of fertilizer goes for 7k and u nid 3bags = 21k
again 200/alapin for application * 30alapin = 6000naira
AgricultureRe: Final Lap Of Cassava Farming For 2016 by Emempaul(op): 3:06pm On Aug 13, 2016
Pls note dat ,dat the figure for planting is a worst case scenario
AgricultureRe: Final Lap Of Cassava Farming For 2016 by Emempaul(op): 3:04pm On Aug 13, 2016
4. After the second plough u might ave gotten ur cassava stem down. Now its time for planting

5. Wages for planting vary but we approximate to 400naira per alapin (2 alapin = 1 plot, 15 plots(1hectare) = 30 alapin that means 400naira * 30 alapin = 12k/hectare for planting
AgricultureRe: Final Lap Of Cassava Farming For 2016 by Emempaul(op): 2:48pm On Aug 13, 2016
===> It is important to note dat once the first plough starts, u must start sourcing for ur cassava stem(cassava stem to cover 1hectare is btw 20k - 25k +transportation)

Hi there
we are now in the final lap of the rainy season(august ending-second week of october).
You can still cash in on the cassava revolution.

How?

Its simple. follow this basic steps and u are buiness

1. For those of us in lagos n ogun, visit any farming settlement(i prefer owode - idiroko/border axis

2. Rent a land. Cost is 10,000 naira/hectare a year.(my advice start with wat u can manage effectively

3. Carry out ur first and second ploughing (10 to 14 days after first ploughing) at the cost of 10k for each plough
AgricultureRe: Marketing Myself by Emempaul(op):
Let me tell u a story of wat happened 3wks ago

STORY...STORY....
STO.....RY

Was recently with a client discussing on setting up a local garri factory. When he saw d total amount from land purchase to wages for the first one month. He almost had a heart attack. But wen i broke down d figures for hlm it was then he realised dat there was almost nothing left to chop.

For close to 4hours we debated the proposal and d huge amount. Tried slashing and removing but found out that our overhead/running cost eat the 70% of the profit . It was then he realised one important thing 'IN NIGERIA NO BUINESS IS SMALL BUINESS".

Now y am i saying dis? In nigeria some 2 years back that same local garri factory cost a friend of mine appr. 4million but as a 3wks ago went for btw 6 to 6.5mil. (though ur return on investment is guarrantied to make u smile on a wkly basis).

But dont always think dat things will always remain d same in nigeria(as price of things in nigeria always tend to defy the laws of gravity).

Now back to the story

While we were yet discussing abt the issue of the high amount an idea came up. Since he didnt have kind of money but had alot of friends with cash. He decised to make he idea sellable and we came up with a blue print on how it was going to benefit each of them.

Now to cut the long story short, they just aquired land 3 days ago for the project and urs truely will be supervising a dream come to reality.

I am not here to gloat or boast dat i won any contract but just a thought.
This incident play out 3wks ago but it thought me one crucial lesson.

Even though he saw a hurdle at the beginning(money),

he collect himself and his thoughts,

argued his case with an open minded/buiness oriented person(me),

got an idea(form a co-operative),

met with potential investors(friends, family, colleagues),

marketed his story(sold his idea)then waited. Now he is witnessing d birth of a dream

even wen there is no money create an idea, make it sellable to friends and colleagues,b pesistent, PUSH then b patient.

Miracles still do happen but not for lazy people
