Education / Young Ghanian Entrepreneur To Give 120 African Students $1m Scholarship (photos) by emeviks: 4:10pm On Sep 25, 2018
Caroline Esinam Adzogble, a 26-year-old Ghanaian entrepreneur, famous for being the youngest African to run and own an accredited college has disclosed intention to sponsor 120 African needy but brilliant students with a full scholarship to study in some international universities.

The founder of Potters International College launched the scholarship scheme through her Mercy Heart Foundation.

Known as the Caroline Excellence Awards, the scheme will award $1M worth of partial and full scholarships to 100 well deserving and brilliant but needy African students each year.

Basically, the initiative will enable Senior High School students and high school graduates with good academic background but no funds the opportunity to further their education at the tertiary level.

The scholarship can be redeemed for Spring, Summer and Fall enrollment seasons each year.

Caroline Esinam Adzogble noted that she looks forward to increasing the number of scholarship awards and partners each year.

For now, students from all African countries can apply though priority will be given to students based in Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, Rwanda, Uganda, Togo, Senegal, Zimbabwe and Ethiopia.

Tuition Scholarships range from 20% – 100% and students will gain guaranteed admission to the following partner universities;

American University of Malta

Brunel University

National College of Ireland

Middlesex University

University of Nicosia

Webster University Ghana recently joined the awards scheme to give 20 scholarships, bringing the total number of beneficiaries for this year to 120.

Adzogble maintained that her main goal as an entrepreneur is to advance and uplift education in Africa making it easily accessible to all.

She said, “My ethos as an entrepreneur is to uplift Education within Africa and beyond and to make it the most affordable and accessible to all.

She added, “My only fulfilment comes from knowing that students who couldn’t get to school due to financial barriers will finally have the opportunity to go to school and pursue their dreams in the long run."

“I look forward to increasing the number of scholarship awards and partners each year to reach more deserving students as Education is a right and not a Privilege,” Adzogble said.

Applications will be open from now till December 20, and can only be submitted through the “Admission in 30minutes” App available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store or through the scheme’s website.

On January 13, 2019, winners will be announced and Adzogble will begin a tour on January 21, 2019, to award all the recipients in their various countries.

What should one know before moving to Canada?

1. Canada is huge.
It's one of the biggest countries in the world geographically. Don't think you'll be able to quickly or cheaply visit most Canadian cities from wherever you live.

2.Canada is mostly empty.
Canada only has about 36.5 million people inhabiting one of the biggest countries in the world, and they are mostly in a handful of cities. Get outside of the cities or southern Ontario and you'll be going a long way without seeing much except road and empty. There are huge swaths of the country where there are no roads, so all you get is empty. Beautiful empty in lots of places, but empty.

3. Most of Canada is really cold in the winter.
Really cold. You can die from exposure easily, but that is extremely rare. The yearly tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, mudslides, and other natural disasters that occur in the USA are far more dangerous than cold weather. Buy the right clothes. Learn what layering means. You can stay inside if it’s cold, but that won’t help you in a tornado or a flood.

4.Canada has over-focused on resource extraction for the past decade.
Canada has enormous natural resources. For the past decade, the just defeated government bet heavily on oil from the oil sands as the dominant portion of the economy. Which was kind of stupid and has led to several structural problems in the Canadian economy. Oil is in the dumper, the Canadian manufacturing heartland has been ignored and innovation in modern economies has been paid mostly lip service. Financial services companies have been heavily focused on oil extraction and shipping too. So there's a lot of pain in the economy right now, which should be alleviated over the next four years as diversification strategies with the new Alberta and Canadian governments bear fruit and as oil rebounds a bit.

5. Canada has two official languages: English and French.
Mostly you can get by with just English in the entirety of Canada, but French is useful in Quebec and parts of the Maritimes you might visit. If your French is a lot better than your English, consider Montreal.

6.The major cities of Canada support every ethnicity in the world, especially Toronto.
If you get homesick, you'll be able to hear the language of your homeland, get the food and listen to the music. Most of the worst stuff will have been left behind and mostly the innocuous cultural stuff will be available. And if you don't like the culture, language or foods of your homeland, they will be easy to avoid or ignore.

7.Canada is really boring politically.
And that's a good thing. They have federal elections every four years in which all of the parties and all of their supporters accept the results. No one tries to overthrow the government. They have provincial and municipal elections on a different schedule. And they are peaceful. Canadians get rowdy after hockey games occasionally, but that's contained and over quickly.

8.Canada has very strong rights and freedoms for individuals.
The Charter of Rights and Freedoms pretty much guarantees that you are free to practice your religion, your innate sexuality and to have close to equal opportunity with people of other ethnicities. It's not perfect. There's still discrimination and outright bigotry in Canada, but it's really subdued compared to most places and if it happens, there are strong legal frameworks enabling you to get justice. And Canadians just voted out a government that was trying to change that because Canadians like it that way.

9.Canada is pretty polite.
Not in the British etiquette-is-a-weapon way, but in the basic niceness way. Among other things, that means that vigorously inciting people to violence against people who aren't like them is frowned on. By the law. Your right to swing your fist stops at the point where someone else's nose starts, and your right to utter offensive speech stops when you are inflaming people to swing fists at other people's noses. This isn't censorship, just sensible.

10.You can drink the water and breathe the air.
Most of the time in most of the places. Tap water in Canada is almost guaranteed to be as good as bottled water in many or even most countries around the world. And the air quality -- outside of forest fire season in a couple of cities -- is better than most cities in the world most of the time.

Career / Re: How Did You Cope When You Lost Your Job? by emeviks: 10:43pm On Sep 10, 2018
Stay positive. Activate your profile on LinkedIn and keep applying for jobs.
Browse the web for companies' contact email addresses and send out unsolicited applications (this works out 75% of the time).
In less than no time you'll be back on your feet.

Goodluck.

Charlyok:
The feeling is very bad when this happens? You feel like it's the end of the world. It feels hard starting to look for another and getting it feels like impossible.

How did you cope when you lost your job?

How many weeks, months and years did it take for you to eventually get another one?

Were you always sitting at home and applying online or were you always going out, trekking from one company to another, with your CVs and Credentials, seeking for job? Have in mind that most companies don't accept hard copies......they will always refer you online and that's if they are recruiting.

For someone who just lost his job and has experience, not being able to complete his rent(landlord always calling and threatening) No connection, No hope of getting another job anytime soon.......What will you advise such a person?

Matured minds pls!

Customers drag Bet9ja to lottery commission over N3 million claim

Three customers of Bet9ja have petitioned the National Lottery Regulatory Commission, claiming the betting company had not paid the over N3m stake owed them.

A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), who obtained a copy of the petition, reports that it was received at the zonal office of the commission on Tuesday in Ilorin.

NAN also reports that the petition was signed by the contact persons for the affected customers, Emmanuel Ajiboye.

The petition stated that the trio had entered into a bet with the company under the category of “Transfer Market”, with bets placed on whether a player would go on transfer to another club or not.

The petitioners said a “Loan Deals Do Not Count’’ transaction was confirmed in an email by Bet9ja on Aug. 28.

They, however, expressed dismay that on Aug. 31, Bet9ja “suddenly’’ turned around and reversed the rule of the transfer market by stating that “Loan Deals Now Count’’ as contained in a mail the same day.

The petitioners expressed the belief that this was done in order to renege on payment to customers who had played and were going to win.

They described the company’s “contradictory” statements as unprofessional by a leading bookmaker.

The aggrieved petitioners said it was in their knowledge that players on loans still belong to their parent clubs and could still be recalled before the end of their loan deal.

They said that the sudden change was not acceptable as it was against the terms and conditions given to customers.

The petitioners also threatened to explore legal action should Bet9ja refuse to respond favourably to their complaint.

They urged the commission to look into the development and ensure justice was done.

Mr Yinka Salau, an official of the zonal office of the commission in Ilorin, confirmed the receipt of the petition.

He said the petition had been forwarded to the commission’s head office in Abuja for further investigation.

Salau explained that the management of Bet9ja would be invited to state their own side of the case.

Is settling in Canada worth for a Nigerian?

As a Nigerian with Canada PR . you tend to enjoy massive benefits:

1.Canada's public transportation system is world class and very affordable. You do not need a car to get around most urban centers as you might in the U.S., especially California.

2.Electricity and utilities are cheap.
Canada homes are warm, maybe too warm, in the winter and cool in the summer. All public spaces are the same, including public transport.

3.Healthcare is free, Post-secondary education is also cheap.

4.You are safe in Canada. Murder rates are very low and getting lower.

5.The Nigerian community is well integrated and well established. There are innumerable community organizations, stores, businesses, entertainment etc..available to you to help you transition to life in Canada.

6.Canada cities are clean and there are just a few ghettos around. Poverty is low and they have solid social safety nets that provide a decent life to those who avail themselves when in need.

7.Job opportunities depend on your qualifications and minimum wages are much higher than in the U.S..
Whether moving to Canada is “worth” it, depends on how you measure “worth”. If you prioritize safety, affordable healthcare, world class universities and basic civility, then Canada is “worth” it.

There was Pandemonium at Alcon, woji as gunmen storm the popular Welcome “u” Supermarket around 9pm on Wednesday, 29th August with a silver Toyota sienna and two other vehicles.

It was gathered that after an intense gun shoot out with the Assailants, three security men stationed at the supermarket were shot dead.

Despite having a police station 5 minutes away, the robbers had a field day robbing the supermarket and escaping with unconfirmed sums of money and other valuables.
