Travel › Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by Emilo14: 9:18am On Nov 04
Congratulations brudda, started going through this thread about a week+ now and particularly your success story has moved me the most, saw you go from questions to accomplishments. Particularly as a self funding student I have some questions of my own, not pertaining to how admissions are secured as I think I have that figured out already, but questions pertaining to life and survival of a student in Japan. So please if I can reach out to you on X( twitter) or any other social media platform it’d be much appreciated
Rictech:
Good morning everyone, it’s been a long while.

I no forget this thread o. Na hustle and school no give me time. Japan no easy, but we dey push am.

It is official — I don gain admission! 🎉

Abeg, Gerrard59 and blackbriar, I would really need all the assistance and guidance I can get on securing a scholarship for my PhD, because the last 10 months I have spent here have really been a struggle.

I have honestly lost count of the number of interviews I have done trying to secure a software engineering job. The competition is quite high, especially when it comes to getting into international companies because of my visa status. I get bombarded with recruiters every week, but actually getting the job is another matter entirely.

For the traditional Japanese IT companies, the biggest challenge has been the Japanese language requirement. In all the Japanese IT companies I applied to, I made it to the internal recruitment interview stage, but most times, I would receive a regret/rejection email about a week later, largely due to the language barrier. Many of them want N2-level Japanese certification, so in some cases, my visa status is not even the issue.
Even though I have not been able to secure a software engineering job yet, I thank God that I started applying from the second week I landed in Japan. At least, the experience has given me a very good understanding of how the hiring process works here.

Back to the admission: please, I genuinely need all the help, assistance and guidance I can get on securing a scholarship. My lab currently does not have funding or a scholarship available.

I am about to fill out my forms, and I want to first apply for enrollment fee and tuition exemption.

Oga blackbriar and Gerrard59, I dey beckon on una again o. 🙏🏾

Any guidance on the scholarship options, application process, what to watch out for, and how best to position myself would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, everyone. 🙏🏾
