Now my testimony. It was all God.

I had my visa app (J1) today in Abuja, 1pm.

7 persons were before me. 2 were denied (blue and yellow paper). All interviews took an average of 5-7 questions.

Now it was my turn. Name called to proceed to window 8. A white lady with pointed nose, may be in her late 30s.

V. O - with a smile, Good afternoon
Me: Afternoon Ma'am
V. O: what do you do in Nigeria?
Me: I am a legal practitioner, specifically a prosecutor with xxxxxxxxxxxxxx. My duties include xxxxxxxxxxx
VO: Are you married?
Me: No
VO: Any Children?
Me: No
VO: Alright. I will be approving your visa..... Bla bla bla.
Me: All smiles. Thank you and do have a great day.

NB: No travel history ie virgin passport and I'll be 29 come this December.

Bottom line : It was all God's grace. I went for my interview fasting sha. �

Read up more on the different schools offering your program of choice, read through how you think you have strength for the program and write out to the graduate director of such programs. For instance, lets say among your grades, you did fairly well in mechanics because you understood and like the course, then focus on schools that do much work in mechanics. Write to the graduate director and be as open as you can. If you had better grades in the latter part of your program, you could write in such a way that your earlier poor grades were due to teenage exuberance and show how over the years you have improved on yourself.
Sincerely, it is going to be challenging but I am sure you will be happy you went through the process as it helps strengthen your resolve even in the face of the challenges you may encounter during the process.

Can i go ahead and do what you've just said without my GRE and statement of purpose or do i need to get my GRE and SOP first before i commence??

Do you have some work experience in your field? I will suggest you reach out to a few graduate program director to get feelers on which schools will likely co sided you and which wouldn't.
More so, you may need very good scores on the GRE coupled with a great statement of purpose to cover up for your grades.
Lastly, you might want to consider schools that are not too competitive for your field.

No i don't have work experience in my field. I just finished my NYSC in July this year. You said i should reach out to some graduate program directors on schools that may likely consider me. Please how do i go about this?

you can gradually build ur confidence,first,when u want to talk to
someone,see d person as ur inferior or even as a
nobody. Then imagine urself as someone great,take a deep breathe and lock up ur jaws,u can dip ur hands in pocket to avoid fidgeting. Look into their eyes directly,eyeball to eyeball,most of them will look away,then u know u are in control of the moment,then u will feel an accomplished, n confidence grows immediately no matter how little. Most,would be uncomfortable,and be in haste to let u say what ya want to say at once. Hope this was helpful in building ur confidence,not getting a visa though. Thanks!

How can you advise someone to see a fellow human as inferior or as a nobody all in the name of building confidence? Please this is not a good advise at all. There are many other practical but positive ways to build confidence.

For graduate studies in Sciences, the standardized examination required is GRE. For funding purpose, most schools will require a Language test score.
A good way to search for programs might be to start with www.usnews.com. Another good site to follow up to know when schools start making admission decision and sometimes to judge how competitive you may be for your program of choice is to use www.thegradecafe.com and navigate to your program of choice.
Evaluating your credentials depends on what school(s) you are applying to. Not every school requires this since some of them have in house evaluators that does evaluation on international credentials.
Lastly, on visa application process, you might want to follow this thread and learn what the next step is and how to prepare for interviews.

GboyegaD i really want to thank you for your answer to this question from Ndkings because while answering his question you have also addressed some of my own questions too. At least now i know that i need to go for the GRE exams asap.

However in my own case i graduated with a 3rd class in Electrical engineering. Please i need to know if there is anything i need to do differently in my own case. I just hope my 3rd class won't be a hindrance for me or is there anything extra you think i need to know or do.

Choose Credit card and use your Debit VISA card. I don't know if MasterCard will pay but ViSA card will work fine

Please i read someone's post about free Wes evaluation before now. Is there also a paid version? I don't really understand. Is it okay for someone to use the free version.

He should first evaluate his 2.5 to 4.0 us scale using wes free evaluator.

From the final outcome, he can now research for schools that accept that grade.

The probability of getting unconditional admission is slim though.

1. What are the required exams to write ;
Sat, TOEFL, GRE ?
2. How do one search for schools in the USA, website , scholarships?
3. How do I evaluate my NeCO result on WES platform?
4. Visa Application process

I'm sorry if in anyway you felt slighted by my earlier comment. Now to answer your question, there is a place for you with any class of degree you possess. However, the school may not be top notch. A short answer to your question is NO.

To stand a chance to better ranked schools, you need to improve your profile by way of writing and acing your standardized tests, getting an excellent statement of purpose, with nice recommendation letters to complement. If you possess relevant working experience in your preferred study area, that could be an icing.

Do these and then do some Google research about schools that suit you and can admit you. There is joy when the work is done, when you know you ran the race, and when the crown of victory is won. Best wishes!

Hello bro, your question caught my interest. I also intend to study for my masters abroad. In my own case i graduated with a third class degree in elect/elect engineering. So i guess i have to also do a PGD before i will be allowed to do my masters. From what you said i believe you have finished your PGD in Canada. I would like to know more details about the PGD, how much it cost you, the duration, the conditions and requirements etc. Please any other person with knowledge about what I'm asking for can also help me. I have never seen any public gathering before where males are more than females but for the first time i saw it in delta state orientation camp. We the guys are almost double the number of girls. Males- 1500 plus, females- 800 plus.

Deltacorper dey here. Hi guys. I'm in delta camp. Camp has been very stressful but still fun. Mehn.... the soldiers in delta camp really like to stress people. I'm almost done with my registration and I've collected all my kits. The only thing left for me now is the bank registration. Here in delta camp it's only one bank that is registering corpers and that's is access bank, unlike what i heard about other camps.
