The Osun State Government has deposed the Apetumodu of Ipetumodu, Oba Gbenga Oloyede, with immediate effect following his conviction and imprisonment in the United States over COVID-19-related fraud.

The decision was announced in a statement issued on Monday by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, who said the action followed extensive consultations, legal review, and approval by the State Executive Council.

According to the government, the removal was carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Osun State Chiefs Law and other relevant statutes regulating traditional institutions in the state.

Oba Oloyede, who reigned over Ipetumodu in Ife North Local Government Area, was recently convicted in the United States and is currently serving a prison term.

As part of the government’s directive, the monarch’s staff of office and all instruments of authority have been withdrawn, effectively declaring the Apetumodu stool vacant.

“The government will, in due course, communicate the appropriate steps regarding succession in line with customary and legal frameworks,” the statement noted.

Security agencies have been directed to maintain law and order in the community, while residents, kingmakers, ruling houses, and other stakeholders were urged to remain calm and law-abiding.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to preserving the sanctity of traditional institutions and ensuring due process in chieftaincy matters.

Oba Oloyede, a dual citizen of Nigeria and the United States, was on August 26, 2025, sentenced by Justice Christopher A. Boyko of the U.S. District Court to four years’ imprisonment for his role in a scheme that exploited COVID-19 relief programmes intended for struggling small businesses.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio, the former monarch forfeited a property in Medina, Ohio, acquired with proceeds of the fraud, as well as $96,006.89 linked to the scheme. He was further ordered to serve three years of supervised release and to pay $4,408,543.38 in restitution.

The development has heightened tension in Ipetumodu, with divergent views emerging over the future of the stool. While some stakeholders advocate leaving the throne vacant pending the former monarch’s return, others have called for the immediate installation of a new ruler.

Notably, two ruling houses in the town—Aribile and Fagbemokun—alongside kingmakers, had earlier urged Governor Ademola Adeleke to formally declare the stool vacant and commence the selection process for a new Apetumodu, citing delays in government action following the monarch’s conviction.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday brought finality to the protracted Alakenne of Ikenne Remo chieftaincy dispute in Ogun State, nullifying the installation of Oba Mosudi Adeyinka Onakade and declaring the stool vacant.

In its judgment, the apex court upheld the earlier decision of the Court of Appeal, Ibadan Division, which ruled that Onakade’s emergence contravened the 1998 Alakenne Chieftaincy Declaration. The court consequently declared the process that produced him as illegal, null and void, set aside his approval, and restrained him from parading himself as the Alakenne of Ikenne.

The ruling marks a major turning point in the prolonged legal battle between supporters of Onakade and Prince Yomi Ademola Adeyiga-Adeneye, who had challenged the 2011 installation.

The dispute arose following the demise of Oba Gilbert Akindoyin Awomuti, which triggered succession contests among eligible ruling houses. Although an Ogun State High Court in 2020 upheld Onakade’s installation, the Court of Appeal overturned the decision in March 2024—a position now affirmed by the Supreme Court.

The apex court emphasised that the 1998 Alakenne Chieftaincy Declaration remains the valid legal framework for any future selection process. However, it ruled that Onakade is not barred from participating in a fresh selection exercise.

The court also dismissed an appeal filed by the Ogun State Government.

Reacting to the judgment, Prince Adeyiga-Adeneye described the verdict as a “liberation” for the people of Ikenne.

He said, “Peace and reconciliation should prevail. Ikenne is free at last,” while urging residents to remain calm in the face of possible renewed tensions.

ABEOKUTA. The Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has recorded a major boost in members’ welfare and professional capacity with the commissioning of a free Wi-Fi facility at its secretariat

The facility, donated and inaugurated on Monday by philanthropist and community leader, Chief Olalekan Gbenga Oso, is aimed at enhancing internet accessibility and strengthening journalism practice across the state.

Speaking during the inauguration, Chief Oso said the initiative was designed to support journalists with seamless access to online resources, research materials and digital platforms required for modern media practice. He stressed that empowering journalists remains vital to societal growth and democratic development, while pledging continued support for the union.

The donor, who holds the traditional titles of Asiwaju of Owu Akinale and Asiwaju Bobaselu of Awori Ota, described the project as a modest contribution to the advancement of journalism, assuring the council of sustained partnership and his commitment to giving back to the profession.

In his welcome address, the Chairman of the Ogun NUJ, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju, described Chief Oso as a dependable ally of the media, noting that the gesture was both timely and historic.

He recalled that Nigeria’s first newspaper was established in Abeokuta, adding that any meaningful investment in journalism within the state contributes to a lasting legacy.

ABEOKUTA -The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a series of directives aimed at strengthening internal operations and grassroots mobilization ahead of forthcoming party activities.

The resolutions were reached on Monday at a high-level stakeholders’ meeting held at the Cultural Centre, Abeokuta, and presided over by the State Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi.

The meeting, which commenced around noon, drew members of the State Executive Committee, representatives from the 20 local government areas, local government executive chairmen, party chairmen, as well as 236 ward chairmen across the state.

In his opening remarks, Sanusi directed that recently disbursed funds to party structures must be used strictly for ward and local government meetings, warning against any form of diversion for personal use. He stressed the need for strict compliance, noting that accountability remains critical to party discipline.

He also disclosed that modalities for the collection of nomination forms would soon be announced in line with a revised timetable from the party’s national leadership. The chairman further underscored the importance of regular grassroots meetings, describing them as essential for party cohesion and effectiveness.

During the interactive session, ward chairmen—through representatives from Ado-Odo/Ota, Ijebu Ode and Obafemi Owode local government areas—raised operational challenges, which were addressed by the party’s Administrative Officer, Hon. Bankole.

Speaking on behalf of local government party chairmen, their leader commended previous interventions and pledged improved performance. Similarly, Alhaja Faidat from Abeokuta North called for consistency in ward-level meetings.

Chairman of Local Government Executive Chairmen, Dr Mrs Adeyemo, lauded Governor Dapo Abiodun for his continued support to party structures at the grassroots and urged party officials to reciprocate with greater commitment. Also speaking, Chief Mrs Ronke Ogunremi called on political appointees to increase support for party organs, while Chief Mrs Iyabo Apampa advocated making financial interventions mandatory to enhance ward operations.

In his contribution, a party elder from Odogbolu Local Government, Alhaji Kasali Kalejaiye, commended the leadership but emphasized the need to keep grassroots elders well-informed to improve monitoring and coordination.

The State Organising Secretary, Hon. Yemi Adelani, charged ward and local government leaders to intensify their efforts, acknowledging existing support from political appointees while calling for more. He also announced the completion of the party’s membership e-registration exercise, confirming that registration agents had concluded their assignments.

A major highlight of the meeting was the prohibition of unauthorized screening of aspirants at the local government level. The leadership warned that any individual or group found conducting such screenings outside official guidelines would face strict sanctions.

Ojajuni gave the assurance while receiving the Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Medicine and Medical Sciences Abeokuta, Fatiu Abiola Arogundade, alongside members of his management team at the Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.

IJEBU-ODE — Political tension within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State took a dramatic turn on Wednesday as security operatives blocked the venue of an empowerment programme organised by the senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Otunba Gbenga Daniel.
The programme, scheduled to hold at Obanta Hall in Ijebu-Ode, was disrupted following the deployment of heavily armed police officers who cordoned off the area and restricted access to the facility.
An Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) was stationed at the entrance of the venue, while several patrol vans and security personnel were strategically positioned around the premises, creating an atmosphere of apprehension.
The empowerment initiative, organised under the Gateway Front Foundation—an initiative of the former Ogun State governor—was reportedly designed to benefit about 10,000 constituents across the senatorial district.

Eyewitnesses said participants, beneficiaries and organisers were denied entry into the venue as early as the morning hours, forcing many to turn back amid the heavy security presence.
The development comes barely 48 hours after Senator Daniel was reportedly prevented from attending a senatorial stakeholders’ meeting of the APC in Ijebu-Ode, where Governor Dapo Abiodun was said to have been endorsed as a consensus candidate for Ogun East ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a related development, security operatives also barricaded the Obanta Club, venue of a planned BATOGD Community Assessment and Review rally, while access roads leading to the residence of the former governor were placed under surveillance.

Sources disclosed that the rally, convened under the BATOGD political platform, was expected to attract supporters from across Ogun East as part of ongoing grassroots engagements ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Observers said the latest security action has further heightened concerns over the deepening rift between political loyalists of Governor Abiodun and Senator Daniel, both influential figures within the ruling party in the state.

Meanwhile, political analysts have cautioned that the escalating crisis within the Ogun APC, if not urgently addressed, could have significant implications for party unity and its electoral prospects in the 2027 general elections.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command, has secured the conviction of 25 traffic offenders during a mobile court session held at the RS2.2 Sector Command Headquarters, as part of intensified efforts to enforce road discipline and reduce traffic-related incidents across the state.

The exercise, conducted under the supervision of Her Worship, Chief Magistrate O.T. Odubanjo, focused on addressing critical traffic violations along major operational corridors. All 25 offenders arraigned before the court were convicted, representing a 100 per cent conviction rate, with no discharge recorded.

A total of 46 offences were documented and fined during the session. The violations included Speed Limit Device (SLD) and Driver’s Licence (DLV) infractions, overloading (OVL), seatbelt (SUV) violations, as well as issues relating to Vehicle Licence (VLV) and Number Plate (NPV). None of the offenders was sentenced to imprisonment.

Speaking on the development, the Public Relations Officer of the FRSC Ogun State Sector Command, Afolabi Odunsi, stated that the outcome of the mobile court exercise reflects the Corps’ firm commitment to ensuring strict compliance with traffic regulations.

According to him, the zero-discharge record underscores the thoroughness of the enforcement process and the judiciary’s resolve to hold violators accountable for actions that endanger lives on the highways.

Odunsi further quoted the Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, as reiterating that the mobile court initiative remains a critical component of the Command’s sustained strategy to minimise road traffic crashes and fatalities.

He added that the Command would continue to adopt a “zero tolerance” stance against traffic infractions, warning motorists to adhere strictly to safety regulations or face the full weight of the law.

The FRSC, he said, remains resolute in its mandate to safeguard lives and property on the nation’s roads through proactive enforcement and public enlightenment.

SAGAMU -The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Ogun State has commenced strategic preparations for a seamless 2026 Batch A Stream II Orientation Course, convening key stakeholders and camp officials in a bid to ensure a successful exercise.

The preparatory meetings, held at the Multipurpose Hall of the NYSC Orientation Camp in Sagamu, brought together Heads of Camp Committees, Heads of Collaborating Agencies, and all camp officials in two separate sessions.
Addressing participants, the Ogun State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Olayinka Diana Nasamu, charged officials to carry out their responsibilities with utmost professionalism. She emphasized that all agencies involved in the orientation programme are equal partners, stressing that no agency holds superiority over another.

Mrs. Nasamu explained that the meetings were convened to guarantee a smooth and successful orientation course, particularly in view of the anticipated large turnout of prospective corps members. She called for enhanced synergy and total commitment from all stakeholders, noting that success can only be achieved through collective effort.

The State Coordinator also urged officials to treat corps members with care and respect, likening them to their own children and relatives.
However, she warned against over-familiarity, describing it as misconduct that would attract strict disciplinary measures, while reiterating the need to maintain professionalism at all times.
In her remarks, the Camp Director, Mrs. Daramola Bose, advised officials to strictly adhere to the guidelines governing the orientation course and appealed for their full cooperation.

Meanwhile, Platoon Inspectors and their assistants have been directed to prepare corps members’ kits ahead of registration to facilitate a smooth and efficient process.

ABEOKUTA -Seven persons narrowly escaped death in a late-night multiple-vehicle crash involving two articulated trucks on the Ibadan–Lagos Expressway.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command, confirmed that the accident occurred at about 10:17 p.m. on Monday, April 20, 2026, around the Ogunmakin axis, throwing traffic into disarray.

The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, disclosed that the crash involved a black CNHTC HOWO truck with registration number TTD-145ZY, loaded with iron rods, and a white Sinotruck conveying unidentified materials.

Preliminary investigations by the Corps revealed that the crash was caused by speed violation and loss of control.

Out of the seven adult males involved in the accident, no life was lost, although five sustained varying degrees of injuries.

According to the FRSC, three of the injured victims were immediately evacuated to Victory Hospital, Ogere, on Monday night, while two others who were initially trapped in the wreckage were successfully rescued in the early hours of Tuesday and taken to the same facility for medical attention.

The Corps noted that the two trucks are currently wedged together, requiring heavy-duty cranes for separation and removal, thereby posing a significant obstruction on the expressway.

As part of traffic management efforts, the Ibadan–Lagos lane has been temporarily closed, while Lagos-bound vehicles are being diverted at Alapako Bridge to share the Lagos–Ibadan carriageway.

FRSC officials have created an emergency corridor to ease the initial gridlock, but motorists have been advised to anticipate delays during the final recovery operations.

Ogunjobi urged motorists to exercise patience, maintain lane discipline, and comply with directives from traffic officers on ground. He also advised travelers to consider alternative routes until the road is fully cleared.

The Corps assured that further updates would be communicated once normal traffic flow is restored.

According to Ogunjobi, predictions by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) indicate a variable rainfall pattern for the year, with Ogun State expected to experience a longer rainy season. He added that recent alerts from the Federal Ministry of Environment also listed Ogun among states at risk of heavy rainfall and flash flooding.

The FRSC boss stressed the need for motorists to prioritise safety during the season, noting that most road crashes recorded during rainfall are largely due to human error and poor vehicle condition.

He urged drivers to carry out critical checks before embarking on any journey, including ensuring that windshield wipers are in good condition to guarantee clear visibility, while worn-out tyres should be replaced to prevent loss of traction on slippery roads.

Ogunjobi also emphasised the importance of a functional lighting system, advising motorists to switch on their headlights during rainfall to improve visibility. He further called for regular testing of braking systems, noting that wet roads significantly increase stopping distances.

On safe driving habits, the Sector Commander advised motorists to reduce speed below the prescribed limits during rainfall, maintain adequate distance from other vehicles, and exercise patience when navigating potholes, which are often concealed by floodwater.

He warned against driving through large puddles or flooded areas of unknown depth, adding that motorists should make strategic decisions by parking safely when rainfall becomes too heavy and visibility is impaired.

The FRSC also cautioned residents and road users to avoid flood-prone areas and refrain from attempting to cross running water.

The statement reaffirmed the commitment of the corps to ensuring road safety across Ogun State, while urging the public to cooperate with traffic regulations to minimise accidents during the rainy season.

OGUN POLICE ARREST FEMALE SUSPECT OVER STOLEN MINI BUS REPAINTING, RECOVER EXHIBITS; MANHUNT FOR ACCOMPLICES INTENSIFIED

Detectives of the Omu-Ijebu Divisional Headquarters, Ogun State Police Command, acting on credible intelligence, have foiled a case of suspected vehicle theft and illegal repainting of a Suzuki mini bus in a bush at Omu-Ijebu, leading to the arrest of one female suspect, Azeez Khadijat ‘F’, aged 22.

The incident occurred on Sunday, 19th April 2026, at about 1600hrs, when information was received that three men and a woman were sighted in a bush along Ikhasi Road, Kajola via Omu, illegally repainting a Suzuki mini bus, popularly known as “Korope,” without a registration number.

The vehicle was suspected to be originally yellow in colour before being repainted in white and blue colours in an attempt to alter its identity.

Acting swiftly on the intelligence, detectives mobilised to the scene. On sighting the operatives, the suspects fled in different directions. However, the said Azeez Khadijat ‘F’ was arrested inside the abandoned vehicle.

The vehicle was recovered and secured at the station for safekeeping. It was identified as bearing a Lagos State registration plate number. A search of the scene led to the recovery of three handsets, one power bank, one paint can, one sandpaper, and one Type-C charging cord, all suspected to belong to the fleeing suspects.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the mini bus was allegedly used to perpetrate criminal activities in Lagos State, prompting the suspects to repaint the vehicle in a bid to conceal its identity and evade detection.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects, while the case is under investigation. The case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command, has intensified efforts to strengthen inter-agency collaboration with the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) as part of measures to enhance road safety and border security in the state.

This followed a familiarisation and courtesy visit by the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, who led a high-powered delegation to the Area Comptroller of the NCS, Ogun I Area Command, Idi-Iroko, Deputy Comptroller Oladapo Afeni, on April 20, 2026.

The visit according to the,Public Relations Officer, FRSC Ogun State Sector Command Afolabi Odunsi, came shortly after Ogunjobi’s assumption of office on April 11, 2026, was aimed at formally introducing the new Sector Commander and reinforcing the existing working relationship between the two agencies.

During discussions, both leaders highlighted the importance of synergy between their respective organisations, noting that their mandates are complementary in ensuring national security and public safety.

To deepen collaboration, Ogunjobi outlined six key areas of cooperation, including coordinated patrols and vehicle inspections to ensure roadworthiness and proper documentation of vehicles along highways and border routes.
Other areas include intelligence sharing on vehicle smuggling, traffic violations, and suspicious cross-border activities, as well as joint training programmes on road safety standards and advanced vehicle inspection techniques.

The Sector Commander also proposed collaborative public enlightenment campaigns targeting motorists and border communities on customs compliance, as well as the dangers of speeding and overloading.

He further stressed the need for a joint rapid response mechanism to address road traffic crashes and security incidents along the Lagos–Idi-Iroko corridor, alongside a renewed commitment to professionalism and strict disciplinary measures against extortion and misconduct.

Ogunjobi reiterated the Corps’ zero-tolerance stance on extortion, assuring the Customs Command of a transparent and results-driven partnership.

In his response, the Area Comptroller, Afeni, commended the initiative and pledged full support, assuring of an open-door policy to facilitate effective collaboration.

Both agencies also agreed to establish a joint technical committee to drive the immediate implementation of the proposed strategies.
The strengthened partnership is expected to enhance road safety, improve border security, and boost revenue generation within Ogun State.

IJEBU ODE — The political rivalry between Dapo Abiodun and former governor, Gbenga Daniel, over the Ogun East Senatorial seat in the 2027 general election took a dramatic turn on Monday, April 20, 2026, following the exclusion of the incumbent senator from a crucial party meeting.
Daniel, who currently represents Ogun East in the Senate, was reportedly denied access to the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ogun East stakeholders’ meeting held at Adeola Odutola Hall.

A viral video circulating online showed the former governor addressing his supporters at the entrance of the venue after being prevented from gaining entry. Speaking from his white campaign bus branded with the OGD/PBAT Movement, Daniel expressed surprise at the development.
“We are here for our Ogun East APC caucus meeting, but surprisingly, we have been barred; we are told that we can’t enter. But let it be said that whatever they do here today is null and void,” he declared.

OGUN POLICE ARREST FOUR SUSPECTED CULTISTS FOR ASSAULT, ARMED ROBBERY; RECOVER LOCALLY MADE PISTOL, AXE, CHARMS, AND STOLEN iPHONE IN ILARO

Operatives of the Ilaro Division of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested four suspected cultists, Samson John ‘M’ aged 25; Olufowora Michael ‘M’ aged 28; Odeh Samuel Ejeh ‘M’ aged 25; and Olajide Jeremiah ‘M’ aged 28, for assault, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of a firearm, following a report lodged at the station.

On 16th April 2026 at about 11:30pm, a report was made at the station. The complainant stated that earlier on the same day at about 1pm, Samson John ‘M’, in the company of six other individuals, stormed his residence, assaulted him, threatened him with an axe, and robbed him of his mobile phone, an iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Upon swift response and subsequent investigation by the operatives, the suspects were apprehended. During the operation, one locally made pistol, an axe, suspected charms, and the stolen iPhone 14 Pro Max were recovered from them.

The suspects are currently in police custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing members of the gang. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.

ABEOKUTA - Operatives of the Ibafo Division of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested three suspects for alleged conspiracy and theft of a motor vehicle, with the recovery of a stolen ash-coloured Lexus RX 300 SUV.

The suspects, identified as Obada Ezekiel, 27; Emmanuel Timothy, 25; and Yaya Yakubu, 27, were apprehended on April 18, 2026, at about 11:00 hours, following a swift response to a distress call backed by credible intelligence.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed that the arrest was effected after a reliable anonymous tip-off led operatives to a hideout within the Ibafo axis, where the stolen vehicle was found in the suspects’ possession.

Further investigations revealed that one of the suspects, Obada Ezekiel, a private security guard attached to the vehicle, allegedly conspired with the other two suspects to steal the car from Lagos and transport it to Ibafo for disposal.

The suspects are currently in police custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.

ABEOKUTA – Three persons, including a female child, lost their lives on Saturday evening in a localized tragedy at the Onipepeye axis of the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway.

The Public Education Officer (PPRO) for the Ogun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Chief Route Commander Afolabi Odunsi, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on behalf of the Sector Commander, Oludare Ogunjobi.

According to the FRSC, the fatal collision, which occurred at approximately 5:40 PM, involved a Sino truck and an Opel passenger car. Rescue teams from the Sector Command were said to have arrived at the scene within seven minutes of the report to commence emergency operations.

Providing a breakdown of the casualties, Odunsi disclosed that 10 persons were caught in the crash, comprising four adult males, three adult females, two female children, and one male child.

"The crash resulted in the death of three persons: two adult males and one female child. Seven others sustained varying degrees of injuries, including three adult females, one female child, and three adult males," the statement read.

The FRSC image-maker further noted that the injured victims were swiftly evacuated to the State Hospital, Ijaye, for urgent medical treatment, while the remains of the deceased were deposited at the hospital's mortuary.

Preliminary investigations by the corps attributed the cause of the accident to Speed Violation (SPV) and Loss of Control (LOC).

Reacting to the incident, Sector Commander Oludare Ogunjobi commiserated with the families of the victims. He, however, issued a stern warning to motorists to exercise caution and strictly adhere to traffic regulations.

"We continue to urge motorists to maintain safe speed limits and ensure their vehicles are in good mechanical condition to prevent these avoidable traffic crashes," the Commander stated.

ABEOKUTA - Youth leaders across the ten wards of Odeda State Constituency in Ogun State have declared unwavering support for the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Oludaisi Elemide, amid alleged moves by some political forces to deny him the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket ahead of the 2027 general election.

ABEOKUTA - Hundreds of candidates scheduled for the 9 a.m. Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across Sango-Ota area of Ogun State on Thursday 16th April were stranded following a heavy early morning downpour that triggered severe flooding along the Sango-Abeokuta road.

The torrential rain, which began in the early hours of the day, rendered both lanes of the ever-busy road impassable as floodwaters surged across the axis, disrupting vehicular movement and forcing commuters, including examination candidates, to wade through waterlogged streets to reach their destinations.

Eyewitnesses reported that many candidates were compelled to alight from their vehicles and trek through knee-deep floodwaters, which in some areas rose as high as their thighs, in desperate attempts to make it to their examination centres on time. The situation caused panic and distress among the students, many of whom feared missing the crucial examination.

One of the candidates, Oluseyi Ogunbiyi, narrowly escaped injury after almost falling while struggling to navigate the flooded section opposite First Bank near the Sango-Ota bridge. Similarly, another candidate, Favour Johnson, recounted how she was forced to disembark from a commercial vehicle due to gridlock caused by the flood and trek a considerable distance under the bridge to reach her centre, holding her sandals and examination materials above her head to prevent them from getting soaked.

The flooding also affected traders travelling from Abeokuta to markets in Lagos, as well as commuters from Ifo, leaving many stranded in long queues of traffic. Frustrated residents and road users lamented the recurring nature of the problem, describing it as a perennial challenge that resurfaces whenever it rains heavily.

Residents of Sango-Ota expressed concern over what they described as the government’s failure to provide a lasting solution to the persistent flooding, noting that commercial activities were brought to a halt, with several shops and homes inundated, while banks and businesses in the area remained shut as a result of the disruption.

The operational plan is meticulously designed to guarantee a visible police presence, facilitate early threat detection, and ensure a swift, effective response to any potential security concerns that may arise before, during, or after the examination period.

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested and arraigned nine persons for traffic violations and obstruction of public highways in Sango-Ota as part of the ongoing “Operation No Traffic Gridlock.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, who disclosed this in a statement, said the enforcement exercise was carried out by operatives of the Sango-Ota Division on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni.

According to him, the operation, targeted at restoring order and ensuring free flow of traffic within the busy Sango-Ota corridor, led to the interception of several vehicles and tricycles found violating traffic regulations and obstructing public roads.

“The operatives were strategically deployed to identified flashpoints notorious for persistent traffic congestion and road indiscipline. During the coordinated enforcement exercise, offenders were apprehended and their vehicles impounded in line with the Command’s zero-tolerance policy,” Babaseyi stated.

He listed the suspects as Rufus Kunle, Sanni Ogbewi, Aremu Oluwatunmise, Kayode Ariyo, Wisdom Akpan, Yinka Molaolu, Olushola Adebowale, Ikechukwu Ogah, and Nwuda Chukwuka.

The police spokesman added that the suspects have since been charged to court, while the operation remains ongoing to apprehend other violators undermining public safety.

The call comes amid growing discussions on the need for the district to retain a ranking lawmaker in the National Assembly, a move believed to enhance effective representation and attract more federal presence to the area.

Advocates of the position argue that legislative responsibilities remain a critical pillar of democracy, requiring individuals of proven integrity, professional competence, and sound academic background. They noted that Ogun East has a rich history of producing respected legislators, including the late Abraham Adesanya, Jubril Martins-Kuye, Gbenga Kaka, Olabiyi Durojaye, and others who earned public trust during their time in office.

The Ogun State Police Command has declared zero tolerance for unlawful assembly, violent protests, and any act capable of disrupting public peace and order, warning that offenders will face the full weight of the law.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, who spoke on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, said while citizens have the right to express grievances, such actions must be carried out within the confines of the law. He warned that any resort to self-help, obstruction of public roads, or attack on public institutions would not be tolerated.

DSP Babaseyi disclosed that on April 7, 2026, the Command responded swiftly to a disturbance caused by commercial motorcycle riders who unlawfully blocked the Oba Erinwole GRA Road in Sagamu, impeding the movement of residents. He described the action as unlawful and unacceptable despite the grievances expressed by the group.

He added that although police operatives initially dispersed the gathering, the situation escalated as the protesters mobilised to the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) and the TRACE Office in Sotubo, further disrupting activities at the Sotubo Health Centre and affecting essential services.
According to him, the Command immediately intensified intelligence gathering and launched coordinated operations, leading to the arrest of ten principal suspects who have since been charged to court. Information obtained from the suspects, he noted, guided subsequent tactical operations.

The police spokesman further revealed that in continuation of the crackdown, a comprehensive intelligence-led raid was carried out in the early hours of April 13, 2026, across identified criminal flashpoints in Sagamu. The joint operation resulted in the arrest of 146 suspects.

DSP Babaseyi stated that all suspects are currently undergoing screening, while those found culpable would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.

OGUN STATE – In a major display of inter-agency cooperation, security forces have apprehended 146 suspects during an extensive, intelligence-led operation aimed at flushing out criminal elements from Sagamu and its surrounding communities.
The early morning sweep, conducted on April 13, 2026, was dubbed “Operation Keep Sagamu Safe.” It followed a series of high-level strategic engagements between the Ogun State Police Command, traditional authorities, the Sagamu Local Government Council, and various security stakeholders.

Providing details on the operation, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, stated:
"Operatives of the Sagamu Area Command, working in strong synergy with community stakeholders and our sister security agencies, have proactively arrested 146 suspects. This operation was a deliberate measure to prevent crime and address emerging security concerns within Sagamu and its environs, targeting specific flashpoints where criminal elements were observed threatening public peace."

The operation saw a unified security front, featuring personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, the military, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Amotekun Corps, the Ogun State Community Security (So-Safe) Corps, and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN).

DSP Babaseyi further confirmed that the suspects are currently undergoing a rigorous screening process to determine their individual levels of involvement in criminal activities.

"Those found culpable will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Abeokuta for discreet investigation and subsequent legal action," he added.

Following the success of the raid, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, commended the professionalism and operational discipline exhibited by the participating units. Ogun State governorship aspirant Iyabo Obasanjo has suspended her bid for the 2027 election after Senator Solomon Adeola (Yayi) emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate.

Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, made the announcement in a statement signed on Monday, April 13, 2026. She said the decision followed Yayi’s adoption at a caucus meeting of the party held in Abeokuta.

In her statement, Iyabo Obasanjo said:
“I congratulate him and wish him every success. I also thank the state and national leaders of our great party for the opportunity to participate in the nomination process.

“Based on these developments, I have decided to suspend my gubernatorial aspiration.

“To my supporters across Ogun State, I am deeply grateful for your calm, steadfast support and unwavering trust throughout this journey. Together, we move forward with patience, strength and hope.”

Senator Adeola, who represents Ogun West in the Senate, was chosen as the party’s consensus candidate at the meeting held at the APC secretariat in Abeokuta.

The leadership crisis and uncertainty over the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State have been laid to rest, as the party formally adopted Senator Solomon Adeola Olamilekan as its consensus candidate for the forthcoming election.

The decision was reached at a high-level caucus meeting of party stakeholders, where serving and former leaders converged to harmonise positions and chart a unified political direction ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, who announced the resolution, said the choice of Adeola followed extensive consultations and wide acceptance among key figures in the party, describing it as a step towards strengthening internal cohesion.

He noted that adopting a consensus candidate would ensure stability within the party and sustain ongoing developmental strides across the state, adding that the move reflects the collective will of APC leaders.

Party stakeholders described Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as an experienced lawmaker with strong grassroots connection and administrative capacity, expressing confidence in his ability to lead the state and deliver electoral victory.

The clearance of road obstructions, indiscriminate parking of heavy-duty trucks, and roadside trading along major highways in Ogun State has begun to yield results, as the Police Command intensified its ongoing Operation “No Traffic Gridlock” across key corridors.

The operation, which focused on the Sango Ota and Ijebu Ode Toll Gate axes, led to the removal of illegal structures, dismantling of shanties, and restoration of road setbacks previously encroached upon by traders and transport operators.

In Sango Ota, coordinated night operations spearheaded by the Area Commander resulted in the demolition of shanties and illegal structures contributing to persistent traffic congestion in the area.

This was followed by early morning enforcement activities commencing as early as 5:00 a.m., during which major obstruction points were cleared and six vehicles found violating traffic regulations were impounded.

The intervention has since improved traffic flow significantly within the corridor, with security operatives maintaining a steady presence to ensure sustained compliance.

Similarly, at the Ijebu Ode Toll Gate axis, enforcement teams targeted indiscriminate parking of heavy-duty trucks and roadside trading along the highway, which had long hindered free vehicular movement.

The coordinated operation led to the systematic clearance of truck build-ups and removal of other obstructions, restoring sanity to the axis and easing traffic congestion.

Confirming the development, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the exercise was carried out under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, as part of efforts to ensure seamless traffic flow across the state.

He warned that illegal parking, roadside trading, and obstruction of highways would no longer be tolerated, stressing that violators would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Detectives of the Ibafo Divisional Headquarters of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two security guards, Isikilu Dauda, 55, and Rasaki Abbas, over the alleged murder of a traveler identified simply as Promise in Ibafo area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, noting that the suspects were apprehended following a credible tip-off from a concerned citizen.

According to Babaseyi, the incident occurred on Thursday, April 10, 2026, at about 7:00 a.m., when detectives swiftly responded to the information, mobilised to the scene, and rescued the victim who was in critical condition.

He explained that the victim, while being rushed to the hospital, identified himself and alleged that he was attacked and macheted by the security guards after arriving in the area late the previous night.

The police spokesman added that the victim was, however, confirmed dead on arrival by the doctor on duty at the hospital.

Babaseyi further revealed that preliminary investigations uncovered a trail of blood linking the crime scene to one of the suspects, leading to his arrest, while sustained efforts led to the apprehension of the second suspect. He added that efforts were ongoing to track down other fleeing accomplices.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, for autopsy, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Bode Ojajuni, condemned the incident and assured that all those involved would be brought to justice, warning against acts of unlawful violence and reiterating the Command’s zero tolerance for extrajudicial killings.
