North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un has blasted his top officials over lapses which caused an unspecified "great crisis" related to Covid-19, North Korean state media reports. This is the first time the leader is publicly acknowledging the country's covid-19 crisis as information that leaves North Korea is tightly guarded. North Korea - closed its borders to keep out the virus after previously insisting it had no Covid cases a claim that was doubted by health experts. Last week, Kim admitted there was a "tense" food situation and told citizens to prepare for the "worst-ever" outcome. On Monday, North Korean state television aired a rare remark by a citizen commenting on Kim's "emaciated" look after he appeared to have lost some weight. In remarks reported by state news outlet KCNA, Kim accused senior officials of negligence at a specially convened meeting of party leaders. As a result, they "caused a crucial case of creating a great crisis in ensuring the security of the state and safety of the people and entailed grave consequences". The report then added that several members of the party had been recalled including one member from the powerful Standing Committee - which is composed of five members, including Kim himself. Interpreting Kim's remarks , North Korean defector and researcher Ahn Chan-il told the AFP news that the report meant that the country was likely to have confirmed Covid cases. It was also a signal that "Pyongyang is probably in need of international aid," he said. "Otherwise they would not have done this as it inevitably involves acknowledging the regime's own failure in its anti-epidemic efforts." https://www.lindaikejisblog.com/2021/6/north-korea-in-great-crisis-after-covid-19-lapses-kim-jong-un-complains.html

A suspected phone thief and a POS robber have been caught by vigilantes and set ablaze in Ughelli, Delta State. One of the suspects said to specialise in snatching mobile handsets, was nabbed on Tuesday morning, June 29, after allegedly dispossessing his victims of their valuables at a building housing Kabaka Printing Press at Ekiugbo area. Witnesses said the suspect had sneaked into one of his victims’ Make-Up store at about 9.15 a.m with a toy gun. The source said the owner of the store, who was vigilant enough to discover that the gun the suspected armed robber was carrying was a toy gun, grabbed him and screamed for help. "We heard an unusual noise from one of the stores in the upstairs and we rushed to see what was happening only to meet a man with a pistol rushing down from one of the apartments; then we decided to run for our dear lives," the witness told Nigerian Tribune. "We heard the owner of the Make-Up store shouting “ole ole ole,” so people started chasing him as he ran into St. Theresa’s Grammar School premise. He met his match when Ekiugbo Vigilante team, who were on hand during the pandemonium, accosted him and engaged him." It was gathered that the other suspect was gunned down by vigilantes and set ablaze along Ughelli Express Road by Glass House on Sunday, June 27. According to report, the suspect snatched a phone and money from a POS operator and tried to flee on a motorcycle before he was caught. https://www.lindaikejisblog.com/2021/6/suspected-phone-thief-and-pos-robber-killed-set-ablaze-in-delta.html
