The newly appointed Theater Commander Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Rogers Nicolas has appealed to the members of the Boko Haram insurgents to lay down their arms and join hands with government and other Nigerians to move the nation forward.
The theater commander made the call on Monday while taking over from his predecessor, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru at the Military Command and Control centre, Maimalari cantonment, Maiduguri.
He said, “We need the support of all people of the north-east and Nigerians, media inclusive to end Boko Haram insurgency in the North-east and country in general. “
General Nicolas said the military needs the cooperation of every Nigerian to effectively deal with the remnant of Boko Haram insurgents within the theater of Operation, adding that the war against insurgency is not only for the military alone.
Earlier in his valedictory speech, the former theater commander, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru, said during his period as theater commander, a special mobile strike team was inducted into the operation.
While thanking President Buhari and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen. Tukur Buratai for the opportunity to serve at the theater, he called on the troops and the media to extend the support he enjoyed to his successor.
He said technically, Boko Haram insurgents have been defeated but only the remnant are still taking refuge in the bush and launching attacks on soft targets. He called on all Nigerians to assist the military with valuable information, so as to finally put an end to insurgency in the North-east and the country at large.

Fiery Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Catholic Diocese, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, has expressed anger against the Buhari Administration’s war against corruption and said President Muhammadu Buhari does not understand corruption.
“My worry is that President Buhari thought and probably still thinks corruption is stealing money, and the people stealing money are largely bureaucrats or government officials,” Bishop Kukah said, comparing the current approach of the President to his failed efforts in 1984 when he was Military Head of State.
He added that the people who are his new friends and party members in the All Progressives Congress were the same people he jailed in 1984.
He also said it is as a result of the greatness of former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, that he has not stepped forward to unearth those things he knows about corrupt people in the country, who are now part of the Buhari Administration.
Kukah added: “There are people who are key kingpins in APC today who were sentenced to various years of imprisonment by Buhari in 1984, some up to a 100 years, but since this is Nigeria, many of them have finished serving their 100-year jail term.
“Buhari was not brought into power by angels.
“We know the nature of the vehicle that would bring anybody to the Presidency of Nigeria.
“Well, there are a lot of people who were beneficiaries of Jonathan’s corruption.
“I guess it’s a measure of the man’s greatness that he has not stepped forward to tell people the things they need to know.”
Speaking on GatefieldTV programme, #ConversationswithAbangMercy, Kukah attacked President Buhari on the issue of religion and said the government has failed to address the killing of Christians and other ethnic minorities across Nigeria.
He said: “Over two years, with all the killings across the Middle Belt, across Nigeria by Fulani herdsmen, by all kinds of people, destruction of churches, everything that has taken place, we have not heard an official statement from the government not to talk of having a conversation about compensation.”
Bishop Kukah also revealed the several issues things he is angry about with the Buhari government and argued that the real opposition to his Presidency resides within his government.

Katu had earlier insisted that his client was still on the payroll of the Federal Government.

Lawyer to notorious kidnapper, Evans, Olukoya Ogungbeje, says the police has no evidence to press charges against his client, Evans. According to Ogungbeje, since Evans was arrested on June 10th, the police by law is expected to charge him to court but because they have no evidence against him, they have held him in detention.

The lawyer who spoke to The Sun, said that the police is currently brainwashing his client. He stressed that as Evan’s counsel, he has not been able to see him since his arrest on June 10th.

“We are not saying that we want to ensure that our client escapes justice at all costs. What we are saying is that we were given letter of representation and properly briefed and we have the claim to represent him within the confines of the law. As we speak, there is no single evidence of the matter, do you know that there is no single witness in that matter, do you know that no single case file has been opened on that matter? He has been moved to Abuja. Someone that we did not have access to while in Lagos Police Command, how do you think that we will be able to access him in Abuja? The police keep on brainwashing him, they keep on threatening him, they keep on deceiving him. Take him to court, that is what the law says. The police are only playing the ostrich. Do you know as his lawyer, I have been denied access to him, do you know that the father, his mother, his wife and children have been denied access to him? The police are not telling the truth. Why have they not published the court order they claimed to have got? Let them name the judge. They are only misinforming the public. They are not bold enough to publish the order. In short, they don?t have it. The police have been mischievous. There is more to it than meet the eye. The matter is in court and we should allow the court to handle the case and wait for the outcome of the matter”he said
Ogungbeje added that Evan’s wife, children and parents have been refused access to see him since he was arrested and are currently demanding that they be granted access.


He says he has written to the police to allow his immediate family members see him. According to him, they fear that he might have been killed. A member of Evan’s family who is based in the South East and spoke on condition of anonymity, said

“We are scared something terrible may have happened to him because of the way police has handled this matter so far especially the way his movement from Lagos was shrouded in secrecy. How would we have known if not your paper (Saturday Sun) which exposed the move in your report last weekend? “From our own investigation, we learnt he was first dumped in an underground cell at the force headquarters in Abuja. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has officially denounced his Christian name, Matthew, Leadership reports.

Obasanjo said he should no more be called by it because he is not a tax collector like his biblical namesake.

Accordingly, he adopted only Olusegun Okikiola Aremu as his names, stressing that names have lots of connotations in African setting.

The former president went on to say anybody who does not want to see his (Obasanjo’s) eyes red should stop calling him Matthew.

He stated this in Abuja on Friday, July 14 at an event organised by the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) in commemoration of his 80th birthday. Obasanjo clocked 80 years in March.

His words: “When I was born in my part of Nigeria, the system was that after eight days, you must be given a name and for people to know that you were born into a Christian family, you will be given one Hebrew name.

“My mother and father decided to name me Matthew but when I grew up, I started asking myself the meaning of Matthew.

“Not only does it not have meaning as long as I am concerned, the biblical Matthew is a stupid tax collector. Anybody who does not want to see my eyes red should stop calling me Matthew.”

He commended the NSE presidential system of election and governance, wishing that it could be introduced into Nigerian politics.

Also speaking, the president of NSE, Engineer Oliver Tagbo Anyaeji noted that Obasanjo successfully initiated and pioneered the establishment of an engineering and technology university (Bells) as well as the state-of-art presidential library in Ota, Ogun state, which considered as first of its kind in Africa.

“While it will be pretty difficult to bring to the fore all the achievements of this world acclaimed achiever, I wish to mention that President Obasanjo initiated the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP)in 2005 and directed by policy that Nigerian engineering firms must get at least 25 percent of exhausted project scope,” he stated.

Abubakar made the comment in her address in Kano on Friday, July 14, at a stakeholders meeting on “Buy Made-in- Nigeria Products” organised by her ministry in collaboration with the federal ministry of information and culture.

North cannot silence me, it is fire for fire - Fani-Kayode explodes

Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has declared that nobody in the North can intimidate him.

He declared that “it is fire for fire”.

This is contained in a statement made available to DAILY POST Friday night by his media adviser, Jude Ndukwe.

Ndukwe said his principal read a press statement by some “self-styled Arewa Youth Forum in Abuja under the leadership of one Gambo Gujungu wherein they accused the Ekiti State governor, Dr Ayodele Peter Fayose and former minister of aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, of being used by southwest leaders to destabilize the country and pitching the rest of the country against President Muhammadu Buhari and the north”.

“While we normally do not respond to the antics of juvenile delinquents exhibiting a regrettably deep sense of flippancy and non-challance in a desperate attempt to warm themselves into public spotlight, we find it highly imperative to put the record straight this time round because we know that the macabre dance of these misguided youths is a response to the drumbeat of their elders hiding in the bush.

“First, let it be clearly told that Gujungu cannot claim to be ‘the National President of AYF the umbrella body of all youths in the north’ as he brazenly put it in that statement as a good number of reasonable northerners, including the youth, have since realized the evil antics of such contraption which is only used for electoral purposes after which people of the middle belt, northern Christians and other minorities are treated like scum by the same Arewa that is quick to mouth a non-existent ‘One North’ during elections or as elections approach.

“One wonders where these youths who claim to be speaking for the entire north were when Buhari whom they profess so much love for today watched while his army killed about a thousand innocent, harmless, armless, helpless and hapless Shiites, many of them youths, in December of 2015?

“Where has Gujungu and his co-travellers been while their cousins, the Fulani herdsmen terrorists, have been moving through the length and breadth of Benue, Plateau, Niger, Adamawa, Taraba, Kogi etc leaving in their trails tears, sorrow and blood of farmers whose only offence has always been asking the marauding herdsmen not to destroy their farms, their only sources of livelihood, with their cattle?

“Or are these innocent victims from these states not also part of Arewa?
We did not even hear anything from these emergency Arewa activists when the same Fulani herdsmen terrorists killed more than a thousand people over a stretch of time in Southern Kaduna. Or are Southern Kaduna people not supposed to be part of this expired contraption called Arewa? Or are they simply ignored because they are Christians and belong to the minorities in that part of the country?

“The fact is that the Arewa Empire has since collapsed. Buhari’s ascendancy to power ensured its final cremation. If these same Arewa Youths and their elders would see nothing against the evils being perpetrated against the many innocents not only in the north but in all parts of the country under the watch of Buhari, good men like Fayose and Fani-Kayode wil not keep quiet because if they do they would ultimately share in the consequences that befall evil people.

“The path this duo walks is not one they chose for themselves, it is one which destiny has bestowed on them. To shy away from such a noble but tough and unenviable task divinely placed on their shoulders is to offend God. And who would want to do that? Despite the toughness and risks of confronting Pharaoh, Moses still had to go deliver his divine mandate to the wicked king.

“Let it be stated that Fayose and Fani-Kayode’s criticism of Buhari has nothing to do with where he comes from. If it does, then this duo would not be defending the Shiites, people of Southern Kaduna or victims of Fulani herdsmen terrorists who all come from the same north as Buhari. Nigerians will also remember very well that Fayose is one of Obasanjo’s ardent critics. Is Obasanjo also from the north?

“Their criticism of Buhari is because the president has proved, with his words and actions, that he has the qualities of tyrannical Pinochet, despotic Stalin and totalitarian Sese Seko all rolled into one. If there is anyone who has pitched almost the entire country against the president, it is Buhari himself!

“And if there is anyone peddling lies and falsehood to gullible Nigerians, even kindergartens will jubilantly tell you that it is the APC and their officials.
Rather than focus on Fayose and Fani-Kayode, the so-called Arewa youths will do well to help the president by telling him to be more humane in dealing with citizens according to the laws of the land he swore to uphold.

“Those who are egging the president on despite his obvious critical ill health are those who actually hate him. Isn’t it amusing that these youths from the north claim to have gone to see the president, yet, top government officials within the ruling party do not even have an inkling of how bad the president’s case is? This goes a long way to confirm that this president is a president of only a section of this country!

“Fortunately, Fayose and Fani-Kayode will not keep quiet. Nobody can silence them. We all own this country together. These two highly placed men of the country are too big for anyone or any group to use to achieve an agenda. They have minds of their own and until there is absence of official tyranny and gross abuse of presidential powers, they will continue to speak no matter whose ox is gored!”
